Thanks everyone, I so appreciate your nice comments!

What camera and lens(es) are you using?

These are all taken with a Cannon Powershot SX520. It's was the best digital point-and-shoot I could find at a good price, and I wasn't ready to jump to a DSLR. I'm very happy with it!

So among my first posts here on craftster 9 years ago ( Shocked ) was a reverse applique shirt. I've gone back to that technique a few times since then, because it's pretty fun, and satisfying to watch my design emerge when cutting out the little bits!

I sewed this David Bowie shirt for swap:

An MG logo shirt for my mom:

These pictures are after a year of wear, so I'm very happy with how it's holding up!

And most recently this Captain America / Winter Soldier mashup for the shipping swap:

It was a combination of applique and reverse applique, with careful planning on which colors to layer.

Next up, whenever I can motivate myself to actually do it, will be a Prince t-shirt just for me. Smiley

Question about posting a throwback project - does it still count if I then post it elsewhere on Craftster?

Project Name: Corner deck planter
Project Link: -
Brief Description:

"Earth laughs in flowers, to see her boastful boys / Earth-proud, proud of the earth which is not theirs" - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

I'm a plant person by nature and by vocation. I amended the soil and planted one of the corner planters on my deck, in a purple and yellow color scheme. I used violas, celosia, angelonia, dahlberg daisies, salpiglosis, and marjoram (that last two are not yet in flower). I can't wait to see how it fills in and grows!

Brief Description: A few of these pictures are from previous seasons, but the majority are from this spring. This probably represents 6-7 hours of birdwatching and photographing, plus photo editing time.

Loved reading the yearly summary! I started work today on my new research project, assembling one of 2 raised beds.

It'll be 12x4', 2' high. I think filling them with soil will be the most time consuming part of this project!

In a effort to both improve my photography skills and learn to better ID birds, I've been taking lots of pictures over the past year or so. I mostly bring my camera out instead of binoculars. These photos were only for my own collection, but I wanted to share some I was particularly satisfied with.

So get ready for lots of birds!

Indigo Bunting - two pictures of this cutie, just because they were being so photogenic among the apple blossoms!

Tufted Titmouse - an easy one to identify, but frequent visitors to the feeders, which makes them good to practice on.

American Goldfinch - another easy one, and interesting plumage makes a good contrast.

Barred Owl - I was lucky to spot this one in great lighting, and they stayed so still for me. A+ model, would work with again.

Pileated Woodpecker - this guy was tearing up a stump with the most serious look on his face, it was pretty fun to watch!

Black and White Warbler - my first confirmed sighting of this species, I kind of chased them through the woods for this ID and picture.

Common Merganser - love the "hairdo" on this lady!

Brown Creeper - I don't think the photo is anything special, but it was so hard to get that I'm including it here. This species has been very shy for me.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird - I had lots of fun with this one last summer, so here's 4 pics for you. At the Rose-of-Sharon and Tithonia flowers.

OK, well if you made it all the way through, then thanks for letting me share with you!

My first research project proposal!

Research Project Name: Raised veggie garden beds
Team: Wordy
Brief Description: Due to very wet lawn conditions and the ease of planting and soil management in raised beds, I'm planning to build 2 of them for my veggie garden. First I will need to determine measurements, then purchase materials, assemble, and fill them with soil. I will consider the project "done" when I have planted most of the available space.

I just caught up with 2 months worth of fabulous posts, and I continue to be so impressed by y'all's crafting! After posting so much in the winter round, I'm sad to be missing around craftster during the growing season, but that's how my life goes. I will get a few things in before this round ends though.
