Prompt: February Random Acts
Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: -
Project Name: Love Rocks
Project Link: http://www.love-rocks.org/
Brief Description: Back in December, I found a stone with a heart on it on my way out of the grocery store. I picked it up and on the back it said "you are loved" and a web address. It gave me such a boost that day, and after reading the website later, I decided to make my own set and spread more love in the world. I made 20 rocks, and have placed most of them already (reserving a few for special places I can't get to right now), even putting one in the exact spot where I found the original.

Project Name: Bedroom paint
Project Link: -
Brief Description: We are gradually redoing our house that we bought last fall, and decided on the color "bluetonium" for the bedroom. With the help of my clan (my dad re-taping a lot of bubbling drywall seams, spreading mud, and sanding) it's looking much happier in here. Before and after:

Prompt: February Red Alert - Romance
Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: Giver, Brain Power
Project Name: Denim toys for shelter dogs
Project Link: -
Brief Description: Beyond any human love story, I melt at animal rescue and adoption stories. Isn't the love of a pet just the most pure? Inspired by the dog toys that Smeddley posted, I learned the square braid and made these two using old jeans. One has a nice crinkly plastic egg carton inside, and the other is nice and dense for the heavy chewers. Every week I volunteer to walk dogs at my local animal shelter, so I couldn't resist showing some pics I've taken this winter! Here are Andy, Ross, Lexi, and Faya (and she will destroy any stuffed toy in minutes, so I hope the little knotted one will hold up longer).

clm your thing for the day is hilarious!

Honestly I'm getting a little tired of doing things every day, but when I sit down and force myself I usually find something to inspire me and mostly enjoy the results. It'll feel good to have an entire month behind me when this is done, and then I can be lazy for a while. Smiley

Thing 18: two dog toys for my local shelter made from recycled jeans. One is square braided inspired by Smeddley - I think this one will be perfect for the heavy chewers who destroy stuffed toys in 15 seconds. The second one has crinkly plastic egg carton inside, and has square knotted ends.

The rest of my things need to hide behind picture links for now! Thing 19, a bookmark for gozer as a prize in the nerd battles. I still need to laminate this before I send it out.

Thing 20 an altered book page (don't look CH) made with the scraps from my love rocks.

Thing 21 another book spread, collage. Only one or two more to go before I send it back to ChameleonHound.

I was just looking through people's masterposts and saw some things I've been missing by not checking those often. kbrison, the quilted bookmarks look really cool!

Thing 17 today: coloring a postcard from Johanna Basford's Enchanted Forest booklet. Every page in that thing is SO TINY and my pencil sharper is not up to the task. I love the designs but they give me hand cramps.

Gozer your cards are lovely! They seem to glow, it's a really nice effect. As far as unreceived swap items go, if you'd rather your partner not accidentally see them I think posting a link to the photo may be the way to go. I know that browsing craftster using the "recent with pictures" category is fairly popular, at least that's what I do often. I see pictures from threads I don't follow and could easily spoil a surprise for myself while just scrolling!

Prompt: February Sci-Fi
Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: Community, Brain Power
Project Name: Knit pussy hat
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=451640.0
Brief Description: This may be a simple project, but knitting doesn't come easily to me! I followed a video tutorial that taught me how to make this hat, and learned how to rescale a pattern for a different weight yarn. [edited to add: forgot to mention this is for the hope prompt! people coming together really makes me feel that.]

I'm editing a previous post to include WIP It and Brain Power bonus points. Thanks b1k for the suggestion, I think you're right! Sometimes I second guess myself on these things.

15  Pussy hat from a beginner knitter in Knitting: Completed Projects by Acadian Driftwood on: February 16, 2017 04:55:12 PM
First I want to thank Joy Macdonell for this video tutorial which helped me so much! I've done very few knitting projects in the past, and as a visual learner it was fantastic to be guided through the entire process. I wasn't able to attend the fist women's marches, but I'm planning to be out there a good amount in the near future and I love the pink hat as a visual signifier.

The pattern works up flat and is then sewn up the sides. I used some Jiffy yarn I had sitting in stash, and adjusted the pattern with some grumbling about math.  Wink I ended up casting 40 stitches on to size 10.5 needles, and I think it worked out perfectly.

Cute, warm, and ready to resist.  Cheesy

Abbeeroad that class looks really neat! Would it be crazy to start a craftalong just for learning hand lettering?  Tongue
It was cool seeing the evolution of your rebel pattern, I think it looks great!

Smeddley that scarf is beautiful! And I love all the little pies - I can just picture them as part of a fall cornucopia-type centerpiece, or mantle arrangement.

Thing 14 was lasagna dinner, much requested by my partner.

Thing 15 and 16 was doing a few more inches of knitting, and then finishing my hat!

I'm so pleased with it that I might even knit something else before another couple years go by.

Brief Description: A quick card for my partner - a place holder for the Kingdom Hearts game I ordered for him that hasn't come yet.

Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: Brain Power, WIP It
Project Name: Birdseed totebag
Project Link: -
Brief Description: I have 4 birdseed bags that I've been saving after they get emptied, and this is the first one I've actually used! I was going with the "measure twice just start cutting" style of crafting and working without a pattern, so I think it came out pretty well considering! It's held up on a grocery store trip anyway.

Prompt: February Battle Royale - Drama
Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: WIP It
Project Name: Paper USS Enterprise
Project Link: -
Brief Description: A punch-out paper model that I've had since... 2004? FINALLY gets assembled! I prefer my drama to be set in space.  Cheesy Oh no a (hollodeck/transporter/communications) malfunction caused (crewmember/alien guest/hollogram) to (go back in time/gain sentience/become stranded in a hostile environment)! How will they make it this time??

Smmarrt, you collage has set something in motion in my head for my shared altered book. I really like that layout!

Today was a fairly simple thing, a hand drawn valentine for my partner. I bought him the new Kingdom Hearts game, but it hasn't arrived yet so this card has one of the characters from the series on it and a kind of game-specific valentine's line. Smiley

One of these days I'll learn how to do pretty hand lettering...

Oh those stamps are so cool! I love mini art of all kinds.

Today I started knitting a hat, and knitting is so not my thing. Every couple years I get the urge to do a project and I have to teach myself all over again and it's a bit stressful! Anyway, I don't think it's going to be perfect but I'm fairly happy with what I got done today.

Day 10: Love rocks for Love-Rocks.org, an in memoriam art abandonment project.

A few months ago I found one in town and it really made my day. These 20 rocks will be scattered around for others to find.

Day 11: Shopping bag from an old bird seed bag! This is one of three bags that have been collecting for over a year waiting for this project.

I completely winged this one, and will probably look up an actual pattern next time. Came out OK though! We used it today and it held up.
