T-shirt yarn project
I was curious of the idea of using t-shirt yarn.
This site describes how to make yarn out of t-shirt. I have tons of shirts, but don't necessarily have the time to give them away at the thrift store, they are closed on sundays.http://cuddlebugkids.blogspot.com/2010/06/t-shirt-yarn-tutorial.html
This was the test I made. I was very happy with it.
1 t-shirt made 20x16 square, therefore you'll need many many t-shirts to make something much larger. If you look up 'weave it' , you find many pdf docs on their old catalogs and nice stuff to do with squares.
2 Don't cut less than 1 inch wide strips, because too thin will break easily when wounding into ball.
3 It's suggested select a t-shirt with some color mixed in, such as a pattern. In this case there was some blue and brown.
4 Tight knit is 'strong' and not soft, would be good for household items such as rugs, coasters, hand scrubber, rather than for apparel.
The only negative I see at this point, when using a tshirt that had seams, the seams show on purl side somewhat.
