581  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Yes, *another* Poppet Swap? on: January 08, 2009 04:39:45 PM
I think I'll throw my hat in on this one.  Grin I've been waiting for a good swap to join and I can't seem to stop making poppets, so...joy! I'm finishing up clothes for a poppet I made for a personal swap and should be done before sign-ups are over. I'm so excited for this swap!  Cheesy (It is okay that I'm a first-timer, right? As long as it's my only swap?)

She's so pretty - I love her curly hair!  Grin Great job. I'm sure she will be very loved.

Wow, thanks for all the compliments!  Kiss Cheesy Kiss
It was fun to make...I actually really liked doing all the circles  Wink  If I ever get around to doing a big quilt for myself, it'll be all bubbles! (I aim high...)
584  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Bright Embroidered Baby Quilt on: December 27, 2008 08:11:24 AM
My SIL bought me Aimee Ray's Doodle-Stitching for my birthday and, wanting to try out a project from it, I decided to make her daughter (my littlest niece) the quilt. My niece has 3 older brothers, so the quilt needed to be as girlie as possible.  Wink

It took me about 2 1/2 weeks from start to finish...I finished right before our family opened presents on Christmas Eve  Shocked (as in, I snuck upstairs to bind it after dinner and before the kids started getting whiny about their unopened gifts!). I left the edges of the circles un-hemmed so that it would develop a pretty 'used and cherished' look to it with use. I matched the embroidery floss to the rainbow of colors in the floral batik that I used and I made sure that there were six birds in the design (one for each of her family members). I used the book as a reference, but I free-handed all of the designs. I added a patch to the back with her name on it, too.  Grin I just used knots of embroidery floss to 'quilt' it, with the little tails on top for maximum comfort.

Here it is all done, on my in-laws' dining table (pic is a little dark):

...and over a chair:

Here it is before any embroidery:

After embroidery and before quilting:

And, the back detail (the back is just white with specks of color from the quilting...like sprinkles!):

I think that I took on too many Christmas crafts this year... I made a jewelry set for my 15 yo niece and one for my mom, a bracelet and 3 re-usable grocery bags for my SIL, 2 pairs of earrings for my MIL, crayon rolls with velcro for my 3 yo niece and nephew, and a bracelet for my SIL's niece....didn't snap photos of most of it. Oops.  Cry

Thanks for looking!  Cheesy
585  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: "What babe? The babe with the power!" Small Labyrinth Cross Stitch on: December 22, 2008 06:33:49 AM
Squeee!  Cheesy I love that line from Labyrinth! It looks great framed, and the red stripes on 'babe' really sets it off.
586  UNITED STATES / Michigan / Re: Best craft stores in GR? on: December 10, 2008 06:09:05 AM
Fruit Basket Flowerland (Alpine) has a great bead section (and their regular prices are usually lower than Michael's and Hobby Lobby).

590  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Stupid Question # 210: Heming a Pleated Skirt? on: November 16, 2008 07:33:50 AM
I'm not an expert, but I would press the pleats out of the bottom of the skirt, and then hem it as I would any other skirt (I usually use a narrow hem ...press under 1/2", roll the edge under and stitch so that the raw edge is hidden and you have a 1/4" hem). When done, just press the pleats back into the hem. Would that work?  Huh  Smiley
