1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Spider Jerusalem t-shirt on: May 08, 2011 12:31:30 PM
I made my little brother a Doctor Who stenciled shirt for Christmas, and when I asked him what he wanted for a graduation present, he asked for another one.  Theme?  "Surprise me," he said.  Cool

He's a big Warren Ellis fan, and has recently been pushing the comic Transmetropolitan on me.  So I went with that and made him a Spider Jerusalem shirt based on one I found online while googling around for images. Since I was kind of pressed for time and didn't want to mess around with bleach, I mixed my own greyish color for Spider's skin tone (a bunch of white paint with three drops of yellow paint and one drop of black). In certain lights it looks kind of shiny and silvery, which was unexpected but neat. I also mixed the green and red for his glasses.

If I were to do it again I'd make the stencil about twice as big and a bit more detailed, but the main thing is that my brother loved it, and stripped off his shirt and put it on right away.  Wink
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: New Embroideries Just finished!! on: March 10, 2011 10:20:19 PM
Very cool!  I laughed at the Iowa one -- I went to school there.  "We're number one in both corn AND hogs!", the Iowa boast.  Wink

The second one is my favorite, I think.  I just love the running stitch on the hair, and the way the bright blue glasses look so bold next to the black-and-white of the face.
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Africa on: March 10, 2011 10:14:08 PM
Wow, that is incredible!  My best friend is in the Peace Corps in Africa right now, and I know she'd appreciate it as well.  I can't even imagine how much work went into that, but the end product is seriously fantastic.  Awesome stitching!
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Living dead girl on: March 10, 2011 10:10:23 PM
Oh, that's so cool!  I love the satin stitch on the roses, and the attention to detail, and all the colors.  It really looks gorgeous.

I think I like it better without the crayon, because the roses really, really pop next to the white fabric and black outlines, but it's awesome either way. Smiley
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: French Knots and Button Tree on: March 08, 2011 01:32:49 PM
I love the texture of all those French knots.  It looks like a very healthy, leafy tree!  Well done. Smiley
6  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Whedonverse Swap round 6 (SIGNUP 3/2/11 - 3/14/11; SENDOUT 4/14/11) on: March 07, 2011 03:41:55 PM
I've never done a swap before, but this one is really tugging at my interests. I have a powerful hankering to make some Firefly/Serenity crafts! Smiley If I finish my one ongoing project in the next few days, I'll sign up for sure.
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Shared pattern/pattern links on: May 07, 2008 09:53:58 AM
I know this post is freakin' ancient, but I was wonderng where the picture came from and if there is a website link where more like this can be found.  Thanks!

That image looks like it comes from one of the Dover clip art series, though I don't know which set (isn't there a "fashion" one?).  The website is hereSmiley
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Mother's Day Marauder's Map tote! on: May 07, 2008 09:38:08 AM
This is great!  I love the idea of putting the grandkids on the Marauder's Map.  I'm sure they'll appreciate it too, if they're old enough to know Harry Potter.  Smiley
9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: What is the trick to making the back look neat? on: May 07, 2008 09:08:27 AM
Oh, wow, I would never have thought of that!  I'm going to try it out.  Thanks for the nifty idea, mwagen.   Smiley
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Crewel thread?? on: April 20, 2008 09:43:50 AM
I know you can buy crewel supplies online:  Wool and Hoop, for one.  You could also check Ebay, maybe.  Here's an auction that's going on right now.

As for stores, I know I've seen crewel kits at JoAnn, but I'm not sure about just the wool alone.  Hm.  Next time I go there, I'll poke around and see if I find something.
