11  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Crochet Sugar Skulls (with written pattern and photo sing-a-long) on: October 02, 2016 11:04:00 PM
I took classes in August to learn to crochet. Unfortunately, with my being left-handed, I had to go home and hit YouTube after every class. The one that helped the most was crochetguru.com. She has lessons in order of how it's probably easiest to learn.

Is there a pattern I missed for the skull hat?
12  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Complete Crochet Beginner on: August 23, 2016 12:52:24 AM
I am in a similar boat of never having picked up a needle before.  I did want to learn enough to use with my knitting loom though.  We ended up having a four session class on Crochet 101.  My problem was that I am left-handed and all of the instructors are right-handed.  Each one has told me that I need to "go home and search YouTube.". One of them feels so badly about it that she even offers to sit and watch with me.

The videos by this lady really helped me though.  She has both right and left handed.  I was able to download the videos and put them on a DVD for playing through the TV instead of lugging out a laptop or watching on an iPad with ads.  She has each lesson numbered and on her website, crochetguru.com, she also has the instructions written out with photos.  https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCEi5vDi04oNB_I2Nws7mA8Q.

14  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Looking for Crocheted Hoop Earrings post on: August 19, 2016 11:08:22 PM
I am thinking that sometime this year I saw a pair of earrings someone posted where they had crocheted over a pair of hoop earrings.  I've tried searching the terms and well i am sure you know how that went.  Seems like she even used a thin green (chartreuse) thread and maybe it was just a tight chain stitch?  It could've been on a group post and not on it's own.  Anyone remember these or might be the creator?

Ditto that we need to see the entire garden when everyone is done!
16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Re: Bracelet - Flowered - Black, White, Pink & Clear on: August 04, 2016 01:44:04 PM
I thought about that too, especially with that center piece.  With the extensive shopping this lady does for beads, not sure I would ever find the same ones to match it!  Shocked

I went into our regular workshop last night wearing red and with full intentions to make a bracelet centered around red because of that.  Then I saw this pretty shimmering pink beads and I pouted a little when I returned the pretty two shiny beads that I had found that wouldn't work.  When I found the two large beads with flowers and the little square clear piece with a flower, that was it!  It was then that I knew I had already gotten my mind changed and this was where it was going!  (The angle/lighting is making some of the pink beads look orange.)

I just figured out getting Tapatalk on my outdated iPad.  I couldn't find it via search so I came looking here to see if I could figure out what I was doing wrong and found this.  Assuming that it's still offline?

So pretty.  Looks like a photo!

Wish my neighbors were as considerate.  Not even 3a is too late for a hammer, a band saw, slamming doors, etc.
20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Scarf Camera Strap on: June 28, 2016 02:09:12 PM
Maybe a year or two ago, i saw a photo of a scarf camera strap that i think was on Pinterest.  I kind of put it in the back of my mind for a while.  Then walking through the dollar store a couple of weeks ago, I saw that they had long scarves.  I grabbed one.  After all, it was only a buck.  And actually, I had to cut it in half to be the right length, so I can get two out of one.

The black ends are actually made from material I cut from a thrift store skirt that I had purchased for $1 a while back and just had it in my stash.  I am not counting out how many of these I can get out of the skirt!

I had to pick up the hardware, black chain maille rings and heavy-duty black thread from the craft store.  Was able to use coupons on two of those, because of a second trip, so not so bad.  Because my camera strap bars were so narrow, I put two rings on each end to handle the clip.  I could probably get away with one, but I am not taking a chance on my camera taking a dive.  Same reasoning behind the heavy-duty thread vs a thin thread.

I used a quick dry fabric suitable glue on each end of the scarf gluing each fold over until the ends were narrow enough.  I hand-sewed the hardware into each black end and then glued the black ends onto each end of the strap.  That would've probably been strong enough, but again no chances.  I still hand-sewed each round closed catching some scarf in each.  I know it isn't the prettiest sewing job, but I am okay with it. It was difficult to get through the layers of glue.

I think it could also work for a lightweight purse strap for something different.
