16  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Jar of Strength, Courage and Hope on: December 20, 2011 08:30:34 AM
I got inspired by Leslieshappyheart and her "Hope" hearts that she made for a friend.  So, when I found out that my friends mom was diagnosed with cancer and would be in the hospital for chemo over Christmas, I asked Leslie if I could please use her idea.

I decided to make it a little different, but still the same  Smiley  My jar is filled with Strength and Courage and a whole bunch of Hope.  I plan on attaching a sappy card with words of encouragement.  That when she is feeling down, her jar is full of the stuff she needs to keep going.  Grin Hope you all like it.

The jar in all its glory.

The hearts all together.

The fabulous heart my 11 year old daughter made all by herself!
(sorry for the blurry pic)

(once again sorry its blurry)

I really am hoping this will lift her spirits.  Thanks for checking it out!
17  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / One of many sock monkeys on: December 07, 2009 08:55:58 PM
My 9 year old daughter informed me yesterday while shopping that she wanted a sock monkey.  Her old one went missing when she was about 5.  Anyway....the ones at Walmart are $20.  Are you kidding me !?!?!
So, I bought a  pair pack of socks for $7.  And decided to make them for her and her cousins.  This one, is merely the first of at least 6 that I am going to make this next week.

Hope you like her.  I think she suits a 9 year old...lol

My DH thinks the eyes are spooky.  But our DD loves purple...so if she wants, we can change them later. I think they suit it though.

Thanks for looking.

18  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / First non-patchwork quilt!!! IMG HEAVY on: December 03, 2009 08:43:21 PM
This is my first attempt at something other than a patchwork quilt.  Our Christmas this year, is all handmade.  So this is what I made for my mom.  A simple Cathedral Window quilt.  Which, in all honesty, wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be!  Now I'm planning on making at least 3 more before Valentines day!!!

So, here are the progress pics.

All the little squares

Joined.  And not perfect!  I know that.  And my mom will simply say "My Grandma would say...A man on a galloping horse would never notice."  LOL.  My favorite saying by far as well.

My daughter trimming the batting, and one of our many pets trying to help her.

And showing how the back, and the outter boarder are the same.

:)Hope you like it!  Any comments, or criticism are welcome.

19  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Inexpensive easy gift for ANYONE!!! on: December 03, 2009 08:36:14 PM
Found this idea while browsing the internet, well, not exactly like it, but you get the idea.  Anyway my daughter loved it!  So, she made it for her grandpa as one of his home made gifts.  Something he can take to his office and "play".  His own Mini Zen Garden.  She even picked out the rocks, because the words reminded her of him.

Whole cost...less than 5 dollars, after tax!  All items from local dollar store.
Photo Box $1
Colored Sand $1
Word Rocks $1
Fork $1 (instead of rake)

Before putting together

After playing with it

With the glass on.

20  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / What can a 9 yo make for Grandparents? on: November 30, 2009 07:56:07 PM
We are doing a completely homemade christmas.  All the gifts that are being given, are things that we can make.  Ex, quilt for my mom.  PJs for neices, nephews.....

I'm having a hard time trying to think of things my 9 year old daughter can make for my dad....and neat ideas?
