261  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: SHRINKY DINKS on: February 23, 2008 12:57:37 PM
Re Embossing/heat gun:   I use mine for shrinky, rather than the oven.  Place the shrinky item onto a baking sheet (or ceramic tile - something like that), hold it down with something, e.g. knitting needle, tweezers, end of scissors, etc.  As soon as its finished shrinking I press down on it with a wood block (old mounted rubber stamp, but anything smooth and solid like that will do).  Works for me anyway.
Has anyone tried making a bangle from shrinky?  If so, how long a strip of shrinky would you need, and how do you get it to bend as it shrinks (? lay it around a bottle maybe???).  Also, do you think it would be too brittle to wear?  I don't have any shrinky at the moment so can't experiment right now.
Look forward to replies.  Thanks.

You did a fantastic job - well done!  I'm sure your friend was chuffed to bits.
263  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / New Zealand newbie on: February 23, 2008 02:25:58 AM
Found this site by accident and am so happy to find a craft group that caters to a wide range of crafts, rather than a specialized group for one particular craft only (as in most Yahoo Groups).  I dabble in all sorts of crafts, but my main addictions at the moment are jewellery making with fabric/felt/fibres/beads and rubber stamping/papercrafts (mainly cardmaking).  Looking forward to spending many happy hours browsing through all the forums!
264  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Newbie from up North on: February 23, 2008 02:18:04 AM
Just found this site (Craftster) by accident and have spent hours pouring over all the wonderful forums.  Thanks for the Felt.co.nz link too - just what I'm looking for to ?? sell some of my fabric jewellery.  Look forward to joining swaps and discussions on the NZ forum, and also to enjoying what seem to be zillions of great tutorials and info on lots of the crafts I dabble in (polymer clay, rubber stamping, card making, sewing, beading, collage and anything else that grabs me and keeps me away from housework!)

Oh wow!  Wonderful pendants.  I use dominoes for jewellery too.  Will post some pics when I'm allowed (still a newbie with limited posting options).

My first day with Crafsters!  How did I never hear about this place before???  I can see hour after hour disappearing while I browse the amazing forums.  I love making fabric/fiber/felt/button/bead etc. jewellery, so this upload is a test to see if I'm doing the pic upload thingy correctly.  Hope so ....
This brooch is quite large, around 5 inches.
Thanks for having me on board!
