well I don't have a sewing machine so I do all my sewing by hand and I couldn't figure out where the elastic came in to play and I was looking at another tute trying to figure out the bodice thing and I just couldn't figure out how to sew them together seeing as how the bottom of the bodice is straight and the skirt was circular in the middle. I don't know I just can't seem to grasp it! I guess it's just me!
From what I understood of her tut, she used the elastic as a way of gathering it instead of gathering using the normal method. You don't have to do it her way if you don't want to. Personally, I don't hate gathering so for me it wouldn't be a big deal to gather it with thread instead of elastic.
To attach the bodice to the skirt, you gather the first layer of the skirt until it is the same exact width/measurement around as the bodice. You move the gathers around so that it looks even all the way around (think of a curtain on a rod...you fiddle w/ the gathering so it isn't bunched in one section and flat in another), then you put the skirt and bodice, right sides together, match up the side seams (that is where I start first) and then pin it all into place. Then you just sew the skirt onto the bodice. The next layer you gather up enough to match the bottom of the first layer, match up side seams, pin into place, sew. You do the same w/ each layer until you are happy w/ the length. Then you hem and you are done!!
I hope this makes sense.
