41  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: UK & ROI Instant Swap 2 (Signups Mar 13th - Mar 23rd, Sendouts Apr 1st) on: March 13, 2008 11:45:05 AM
Hi all

I'm hoping to join the swap, it will be my first (purple heather is my sister so hopefully she'll point me in the right direction), I figured a UK swap would be a good place to start! Nervous though! I'm going to make a start on the questionnaire and will probably end up with a novel to match war and peace!  Grin

Hi all

I  haven't made any soap before (It was the gorgeous cupcake ones that inspired me!) and would really like to give it a go, but I just wanted to know what the best way to make soap with kids around (well after they have gone to bed), and I would like to make some that I could use on them, if it makes any difference re sensitivity of skin, I have 3 under 3.

NaomiJ - there really beautiful, well done!  Smiley I'm glad I was able to help, it's amazing what difference the pliers make (now you've started on that road you'll not stop  Wink keep us posted with your pictures)

Bead weaving always look's so beautiful and intricate and fiddly, I will definitely give it a go now - thank you  Grin

Oh my word I know it's years later but thats my baby (as a baby!) (purple heather is my sister) how she's changed - she's still quirky though (she's the lil one in my avatar with the police mans hat on) awww all happy and rambling!
46  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Re: Finishing elastic and memory wire? on: March 03, 2008 11:36:55 AM

I can't help with finishing elastic as the knots I use always slide out and the beads go everywhere, so I will be interested to see what other people say, as I have some lovely beads that I would like to use with elastic.

I make most of my bracelets with memory wire and I have found that to get neat little loops the best pliers to use are long nose internal pliers - they dont have a serrated edge and therefore dont leave a ough finish, it also means you can add little beads on jump rings to finish off the ends.

They look like this:

I have found a lovely simple but effective bracelet to make is using 4 or 5 continuous loops of memory wire and threading seed beads and occasionally bigger beads - looks lovely and really cheap and simple to make - mine looked like this:

Hope that helps

Thanks white belt what a wonderful site - I think thats a level I will have to work towards! (Any excuse to make more Grin  )

No problems NaomiJ - it's still a little tough but so much easier (and you can add cute little beads on jump rings to finish it off)

Thanks for the link to the website - great for inspiration.

NaomiJ the pliers I use to finish off memory wire are called long nose internal pliers, memory wire isn't too difficult to make a loop once you have discovered the joys of these pliers - the make the finish really neat and tidy - I have taken a picture of them for you

hope that helps
