I guess I'd forgotten to post this other photo of Ernest filling sandbags.  He is credited with saying once at a dinner party,  I should have liked to have a figure so beautiful that an Act Of Parliament would have been passed, forbidding me to wear clothes.

I like to find photos of him smiling. Cheesy

Received the copy of Adventures in Embroidery the revised edition, 1947, which includes a few new images and commentary, but, sadly, no images of Ernest's own work.  I think he must have believed it would be inappropriate to include his own work in the book.  I think some of the design sketches are by him, but they are the same as in the first edition.  He had his own ideas of appropriate behavior, which were unique but strong.

I hope they won't try to replicate Pretorius - I think he is one of a kind!  From what I have read, the new BRIDE may be a feminist manifesto instead of the gay manifesto some people claim the original BRIDE is (personally I'm not convinced).  Not sure how Pretorius would fit into a feminist manifesto.  He said making a woman would be "really interesting" (why a gay guy would be that interested in making a woman is not clear, but I can't expect film theory people to be consistent!)  BRIDE is supposed to be directed by GODS AND MONSTERS director Bill Condon.  I thought GODS AND MONSTERS was well made but not extremely accurate historically.

Nobody these days looks like this:
