201  Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 101 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by gaudiknight on: March 01, 2014 07:24:57 AM
Gamemom42 has received her package and asked me to post pictures because she wanted to let her granddaughter unwrap it.

She asked for American Girl Stuff, so I made the following:

A Sweater (I loved the way this turned out - it was hard to send away.)

A Simple Sundress

(Kirsten's rocking the "my shoes don't match" look)

And finally a dress that didn't turn out quite as expected - I was following a pattern for a more historical dress, but had a mishap with the bodice and no more fabric to cut another one.  So the skirt got grafted onto the bodice from the sundress pattern.

I hope your granddaughter likes them, gamemom42!

March Themes

Kitten Accomplished by Pen Waggener, on Flickr

Color: Yellow
Pattern: Polka Dots
For: Animals, pets, or the fuzzies at the pound.
Challenge 1: Now that you've got a good handle on what you have in stash you may have come across some things that you know you will never use.  Weed these items and give them away to someone who can use them.
Challenge 2: Make something from the millions of tutorials you've collected on Pinterest, or from one of your vast hoards of craft and pattern books.  If it's an internet tutorial, please share the link in case anyone else is inspired to give it a try.

My package arrived from Watsonc7.  She made me three amazing zippered pouches.

The rounded one is already living in my bag, and I've filled the blue and white striped one with knitting notions.  It's a really neat type I'd not seen before - it folds in half with clear plastic on the inside so you can see exactly what you've got in there.

But look at the big pouch.  It is fantastic!  Dr. Who themed in an instantly recognizable way without being too over the top about it.  You can slip papers inside his lapels, and it's lined with galaxy fabric.  I can only hope that once I start filling the pouch up that it will be bigger on the inside.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Moonflame - Cute Kitty!  Sorry about the wine...

Netchez - I adore the pattern you used for that scarf.  It works really well with the variegated yarn.

Brief Description: In late January I made a road-trip that took me from Virginia, through upstate NY, and on to both Vermont and New Hampshire (it wasn't my idea).  While driving through New England in the middle of a snow-storm I was struck by two things: 1) how pretty the pines were, and 2) how cold my hands were.

AIMR - Actually following the themes?!  Madness!

I've got another knitting project done.  Two in the space of a week, what is the world coming to?

I had about four yards left after finishing these mitts - which is a step up from the 18 inches left at the end of the shawl.  It makes for nerve-wracking knitting.

May I join in?  I know it's late in the semester, but I've been stuck in the library getting way too excited about all the books.

Brief Description: I used to work at a historic site, and one of the things I liked about the opening shift was you had a few minutes with the mountaintop all to yourself to admire the dewdrops caught in the webs the spiders had made in the trees.  When my mom asked me to make her a shawl with beads, I found a pattern with leaves and tried to capture some of those memories.

I finally finished my major WIP left over from 2013.  My mother wanted a shawl for Christmas.  Thankfully she's very patient because it has been a crazy winter and I had very little free time to craft, and not much of an attention span when there was time.  This was my first time using a lace chart and first time knitting with beads (not stash), so it required more attention than my brain could handle most of the time.

Two balls of yarn out of stash, and another thing crossed off my "make for others" list.  Woohoo!

February Themes

10/3.2012 - organizing by julochka, on Flickr

Color: Red
Pattern: Paisley
For: Organizing
Challenge 1: Put the stash in order.  Untangle your yarn, fold your fabric, and throw out the bits of string that are too small to save.
Challenge 2: Make a just-because present for someone who needs to be cheered up or as a Random Act of Kindness.
Link Party! We all like to gawk at pretty pictures and projects.  Share some links to your favorite crafty organizing ideas or spaces to jump start our motivation.  I'll try to collect them into the space at the beginning of the thread so they're easy to find.

Now is also a good time to tally up how January went.  How many projects did you make from stash?  Did the amount you used equal the amount of materials you added to your stash?  What was your favorite?  Do you need to set any new goals or challenges for yourself to keep motivated for the next month?

209  Re: 50 Projects 2014--Let's continue the craftiness! in Craftalongs by gaudiknight on: January 31, 2014 01:51:47 PM
Hi there!

I thought I'd actually put in a post here instead of lurking like I usually do.

I'm at 3 completed projects for January (all variations on a theme), one abandoned project (ran out of motivation and yarn - a deadly combination), and one WIP.

My WIP project was going to be my entry for the "Learn Something New" January challenge - first time doing a complicated lace pattern, reading a chart, and using beads. Perhaps if I knit really fast this evening I'll have it done in time.

ActsofCraftiness - Want some of my winter weather?  I'm sure no one around here would mind sharing.

I whipped up another doll dress.  You'll probably be seeing lots of these during the year, since one of my crafty resolutions was to make three items for my dolls a month, just to practice skills.
