Class/Challenge/House Pride: CoMc
SPEW: n/a
House: Hooflepoof
Project Name: Pattern Testing Dress #2
Project Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: The swirls and stars of this dress reminded me of cold clear winter nights and blowing snow, while the chocolate color has a lot in common with the super soft color of flying reindeer fur.  It might need a mossy green ribbon sash in the future to really tie it into the tundra color scheme.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
SPEW: n/a
House: Hooflepoof
Project Name: Pattern Testing Dress #1
Project Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: In testing out a pattern, one really doesn't want to use your best fabric.  But muslin gets so boring.  In this case I recycled an old green plaid sheet instead (green & green!)

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Bertie Bott's Beans - Black Pepper
SPEW: n/a
House: Hooflepoof
Project Name: Pattern Testing Dress #3
Project Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: By this point I'd finally figured out how to get the bodice to fit properly.  The black goes with just about anything, so you can save your fun fabric for the skirt for a bit of spice.

Bushbaby - Love the shawl!  It's giving me serious stash envy.

As those of you who have DeStashed with me in previous years know, I have a tendency to drop off the face of the earth and then pop in with a bunch of doll clothes to show for my absence.  This year is no exception.

Left over from January's DeStash efforts we have ...

A Doll Sweater

And a ConKerr Pillowcase

Cupcakes for ConKerr by AluminumDryad, on Flickr

I have about half a yard of the cupcake fabric left and no idea what to do with it.  Story of my life.

And February has started off with a bang with five more dresses, all from scraps of a quilt I made back in 2011.

Wardrobe Enhancement Exercize by AluminumDryad, on Flickr

That's it for now.  My plan for the weekend is to photograph my yarn stash so I can organize it with Ravelry and start doing some major planning.

Unfortunately I've also got a bit of a stash-enhancement trip planned too, since I discovered I have no pink in my stash with Valentines Day just around the corner.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: History of Magic
SPEW: n/a
House: Hufflepug
Project Name: Concealing Curtains
Project Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: I live in a very small place, which means I can't let any bits go to waste.  There's a very deep shelf above my "fireplace", so I put together some closetmaid shelves to tuck behind my TV.  They were ugly as all get out, so I whipped up some muslin curtains to hide the shelves, cords, and boxes.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean - Banana
SPEW: n/a
House: Hufflepug
Project Name: Bevy of Blue Dresses
Project Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: Doll dresses make me happy!  Blue calico makes me happy!  Stashbusting really makes me happy!  Experiments with batch sewing and efficiency make me pretty pleased.  And being able to turn an oops in interpreting the prompt for alchemy into a Bean instead makes me happier still.

Just popping by really quickly to drop off my Cheese Bean right before the deadline.  Will have more time to look at everyone's projects in the morning, when I'm not so sleepy.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean - Cheese
SPEW: conkerrcancer.org
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Cupcake Case
Project Page Link: See above link for more information
Brief Description: I've had this fabric for closer to three years than three months.  And like most novelty fabrics I buy, I can never figure out what to use them for once I get them home.  ConKerr pillowcases are a great way to use up that sort of fun but not terribly useful fabric.

February Themes

I Heart Victoriana by The National Archives UK, on Flickr

Color: Red
Pattern: Hearts
For: Someone Special
Challenge:  Weed your stash.  As you were looking it over last month you probably ran across a few items that you know in your heart of hearts you aren't going to use.  Maybe your tastes have changed since you acquired them, maybe your great-aunt Mabel insisted you take them and you couldn't say no, or maybe you can't even remember where they came from.  It's okay to let them go!  Take those things to the goodwill or keep an eye out for a local group that could give new life to your crafty cast-offs.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: January Detention - WIP
SPEW: n/a
House: Hooflepoof
Project Name: Squiggle Dress
Project Page Link: Made using this pattern
Brief Description: I cobbled this dress together back in December since the fabric reminded me of a weird combination of Christmas and doctor's waiting room couch upholstery (how could I resist?).  The bodice came out much larger than expected, so I put off sewing the lining and snaps until this weekend.

Finally Finished by AluminumDryad, on Flickr

My OWL is going... not well.  I am utterly befuddled by the pattern I intended to use, so I thought I'd switch to one that was charted instead.  It's still not looking quite right.  I may post a picture of my progress later to ask for opinions.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean - Satsuma
SPEW: n/a
House: Hooflepoof
Project Name: Sweater for Autumn
Project Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: Yarn/thread has been around forever, but knitting itself is only a thousand years old (maybe two, depending on your sources and definition of knitting).  And using it to make sweaters/jerseys/jumpers/whatever-they-call-them-in-your-part-of-the-world really only started up in the late middle ages or early modern period.  They didn't become popular for people other than fishermen and laborers to wear until the Victorian era.  So knitting sweaters is a traditional, but not necessarily ancient, past-time.  And since I traditionally make doll clothes, this is what I ended up with.

I've got my first finished DeStash project of the year to share:

4/365 Mitts by AluminumDryad, on Flickr

That particular skein has been kicking around forever since I couldn't find the right project for it.  That'll teach me to buy yarn just because I like the colors, with no real project in mind.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Class - Charms
SPEW: n/a
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Basic Mitts
Project Page Link: Basic Fingerless Mitts
Brief Description: Got some post-christmas knitting done with some yarn I've had in stash for a while and which was resisting all my attempts to turn it into anything other than mitts (I've tried it as both a hat and a cowl but it refused).  Warm and blue - I think it'll do.

And now for something completely different:

Owl Proposal

OWL Subject & Option: Transfiguration - Option 1
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Dragon Wing Shawl
Brief Description: Lace weight yarn hanks contain a ton of yardage.  For this project I plan to turn two skeins of laceweight yarn (nearly 1,000 yards) into a shawl.  To add to the magical nature of this project, I'm going to use the Dragon Wing shawl pattern.  Still trying to decide whether there will be beads as well.  I hope to have this done by the end of the semester.  The knitting itself doesn't look too terribly complicated, but there's going to be a lot of it!

Time for my massive project dump to finish off the 2014 crafting extravaganza.

Here's what happened in December on the DeStash Front

One Christmas Dress:

Christmas Mischa by AluminumDryad, on Flickr

Two Scarfs (Scarves?)

Two Zippered Pouches

And I think that finishes off the year.

Of the 70 or so projects I did this year, 47 were from stash.  Not too bad!  I think I may have come out even on the crafting stash vs. acquiring stash front.

(And for those who care, of the 70 projects, 30 were doll clothes, and all but three of those were from stash.  That seems to be my go-to-project these days Cheesy).
