A Mini Update as opposed to my usual massive project dump.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Defense Against Dark Arts
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Best Cookies Ever!
Recipe: http://bit.ly/2kp7CeU
Brief Description:  I work at one of our campus libraries supervising the student workers, and always make them cookies at the beginning of the semester as a sort of welcome back gesture and to remind myself that I do really enjoy them, even if the first few weeks of classes makes you want to tear out your hair with all their last minute schedule changes. As usual, I used my favorite recipe for the base and just substitute whatever sort of goodies I have on hand for the peanut butter chips.  This time around I reduced the amount of butter and used mint chips, and I have to say they are some of the tastiest things I've ever made.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Headmistress' Challenge - Philosopher's Stone
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Basket o' Dresses
Brief Description: I had time for a massive sewing session last weekend, and decided to make a giant batch of doll dresses.  I usually just make them in ones and twosies, so this was a much bigger undertaking than usual, but I did kind of enjoy the assembly line process. (There are two yellow dresses there that were used for another prompt, but even taking those out of the equation it was still an 8 hour undertaking)

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree - Bells
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Yellow Dress
Brief Description: I like incorporating the torn edges of fabric in hems and then rubbing my fingers over them to make sure they're extra fuzzy.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree - Fake Snow
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Cards Galore
Brief Description: We have a Winter Carnival at work in the break between the Christmas holidays and the start of the spring semester.  There's usually some crafty and cooking workshops.  This year and last I had a grand time making cards out of mostly pre-cut odds and ends from one of the ladies in HR who does the stamping up stuff.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree - Garland
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Winter Woods Dress
Brief Description: I made another batch of this dress for the holidays.  I can't quite tell if the fabric is supposed to be pussy willows or just icy branches.  Either way it's really pretty!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree Challenge - Angel
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Charlie's Blanket
Brief Description: My grandomother with Alzheimers' always perked up whenever I brought my dolls along on a visit, so I was conspiring with my mother to get her one of her own version in plastic for Christmas.  I wanted to have something nice to wrap the doll in, so I put some bias binding on a prequilted scrap in my stash.  With all the handstitching involved it wasn't actually quick, but it certainly could have been a lot worse.  Unfortunately my grandmother became ill in mid-December and passed away before she could receive her gift.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree Challenge - Baubles
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Polka Dot Dress for Realfee
Brief Description: My dolls each have their own personal style completely separate from what I have planned for them.  Hoping that the new girl will like pastels and frills?  She'll insist on only the boldest colors, especially red.  It was really hard to send this dress on its way because it suited my own crew perfectly.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree Challenge - Icicles
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Two YOSD Dresses
Brief Description: This project required paying closer attention to the iron temperature than usual when pressing.  My first attempt melted the ribbon I was using for the button placket!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree Challenge - Star
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Christmas Snowflakes
Brief Description: My favorite of this year's batch of Christmas Dresses, fussy cut out of a scrap given to my by a friend.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Christmas Tree Challenge - Tinsel
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Glitter Snowflakes
Brief Description: The best part about this fabric is that the glitter doesn't shed.  A wonder of modern textile design!

@gala_apples - What an interesting finding!  It's always amazing what you can learn about people from their bookshelves.

First DeStash project of the year done.  Still have bits of both yarns left over, but I've already started a project to make a dent in the variegated yarn.

~*COMPLETED OWL HEADER*~
OWL Subject & Option: Potions
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Jaywalkers
Project Page Link: Jaywalker by Grumperina
Brief Description: Although the photo doesn't show it very well, these socks are made with several different stitch patterns that work harmoniously together - ribbing at the cuff, the zig-zag pattern for the leg and top of the foot, slipped stitch for the heel, and stockinette for the toe and sole.  I'm very pleased with how these socks turned out!

2017 DeStash-Along

Crafts by Peter Dutton, on Flickr

For most crafters the question isn't "Do You Have a Stash?" but rather "How big is your stash?"  Stashes can be big or small, from a single jar of seed beads to enough yarn to insulate your house.  They let us whip up last minute decorations and gifts, squirrel awesome supplies away until we can figure exactly how to use them, and rest easily in our beds knowing that in some future dystopia where pipe-cleaners are used as currency we will live like royalty.

Stashes are amazing things to have, but they are even more fun to use.  Join us on a year-long crafting spree through your stash!  All crafts and materials are welcome.  We post monthly themes and challenges to help kick-start your creativity, but don't feel yourself bound by them.  This is a place to talk with your fellow supply enthusiasts and show off projects made with your carefully curated hoard stash.

Join any time!

We've been going strong since 2009.  Take a look at our past DeStash Alongs for more information and inspiration:

Long time, no post.  Which means, of course, that there's a massive project dump ahead.  You've been warned!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Arithmancy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Second Sock
Project Page Link: Tracks Sock Pattern
Brief Description: Once upon a time I thought I'd be able to finish a simple pair of socks quickly enough that it wasn't worth proposing them as an OWL.  Several months later I finally finished up the second sock of the pair.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Detention - October
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Psychedelic Realfee Dress
Brief Description: Usually when I'm sewing doll clothes I do a little bit of planning to figure out how the pattern is going to appear on the bodice and skirt.  Not this time!  There was too much chaos on the fabric to bother.

319/365 Feelin' Groovy! by Trillian, on Flickr

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Detention - November
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Lati Green Holly-Day Dress
Brief Description: It took a couple of days to finish up this dress as I pondered whether or not it needed a sash.  It did.

Christmas Lily by Trillian, on Flickr

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Detention - December
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Realfee Swirl Dress
Brief Description: One of the most famous muggle depictions of a witch is the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard Oz.  In the movie she was given green skin to show off the color film.  It comes across as much the same color as this fabric.

Christmas Curlicues by Trillian, on Flickr

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Floo Powder
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Pizzelles
Project Page Link: Recipe
Brief Description: It has been a really rough Christmas season, and all I really wanted was to make the family's traditional christmas cookie, anise flavored pizzelles.  Usually I make them with my mom or my grandmother, but that wasn't happening this year.  These nearly didn't happen, since I had to call/visit six stores to actually find anise extract.  This was my first time making the batter (usually I'm in charge of the iron), first time with my own iron, and first time actually tasting the batter before it was baked.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Headmistress' Challenge - December - Post Owl
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Realfee Christmas Bauble Dress
Brief Description: One of the nice things about doll dresses is they fit flat inside an envelope for easy mailing.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Nature Angels
Brief Description: My mother and her friends vacation in the next county over every year, and spend their week taking long walks and collecting interesting bits of nature along the way.  This year I was able to join them for an afternoon spent with glue guns and their finds making Christmas decorations.  I made a couple of these angels before I was roped into making wire stars for pine cone Christmas trees.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Charms
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Carol's Chest
Brief Description:  I painted a chest of drawers for a family friend who was moving from her sister's house into a group home.  Carol had very specific ideas of what she wanted it to look like, and promises were made before actually consulting me on what my painting skills were, but I made it work after much frustration and learning lots of new skills.  She chose the text, and I added Goofy to the bottom drawer because she is absolutely obsessed with him.  It's kind of hideous, but exactly what she wanted!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Pukifee Brown Dot Dress
Brief Description: While the leaves of the Camellia sinensis are used to make tea, the seeds are actually small round balls.  So we've got the dark brown background of a good cup of black tea, and the round dots for the seeds.  Or something like that...
