Happy Monday everyone!
A friend asked me to make her 7YO daughter a traditional Mohawk ribbon dress. I get to pass it on to them today. I'm so excited! She came and tried it on last week and it fits with a little room to grow.
I sewed the satin ribbon on all by hand, which in hindsight seems like the right choice, but at the time felt a little crazy. The colours red, white, yellow and black are to reflect the Medicine Wheel, a symbol that represents many traditional teachings and ways of knowing.
The dress and skirt are separate, so even if she grows out of the dress, she'll be able to continue wearing the skirt with a little modification.
A labour of love to be sure
