Prompt: April - Downton Abbey
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points:
Project Name: Multi pocket coin purse
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: The Brits used to throw lavish parties for the royalty and the wealthy. This fabric shows a beautifully regal couple. I used a new pattern for this. The pattern was "eh". Not enough instructions and some of the instructions where misleading. This was the second one I made. I have wanted those snap pliers forever so this was a perfect excuse to get them. I plan to make a couple more for Christmas so I can just throw gift card in them for the older teens.

Prompt: April Mob - British thing or person
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: Frank Tote Purse
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description:  Sorry Team Wordy. I have been so lazy this month. I worked my butt off (not literally cas I still seem to have a ton back there) at the start to finish up my Research Project and then I just started working on the yard and cleaning, you know, wasting time I should have spent crafting.  Tongue Last night I got back in gear and finished up my Mob Challenge. Mary Shelley, the writer of Frankenstein, was British. Both sides are the same image. I had everything but the straps done the first week of the month and then it just sat there. Roll Eyes I am back in the swing now and will be working on more prompts this weekend.

I have been so busy and rushing around. I will comment on all the projects in a bit but I wanted to go ahead and throw a couple in the ring too. I haven't posted any for the month yet and it's already the 14th. Wow. Okay, here goes.

Prompt: Battle - Dr Who
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: Dr Who Scrappy scarf
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I had to go with Dr Who. I know nothing about Sherlock except for the old books. Unless we are talking about where Jude Law played Dr. Watson I am out of the loop. BUT I do like Dr Who. I haven't watch too many but I find them entertaining. I bought some fabric squares to make 5 of these so I have enough left for three more. The first one was a raffle prize and has already been sent out in case someone sees this and thinks I already turned it in once before. Different scarf, same fabrics.

Prompt:  April - Queen English
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: Whimsical Birdhouses
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: My Mom retired two years ago so we like to do little art projects together when we get the time. She was an art teacher at an elementary school so she is really creative. We do the wine and designs as little mindless fluffy fun. I am filling up my laundry room wall with the work we do together there. It's fun and carefree. The laundry room out my house leads out to my garden. Which reminds me of "The Secret Garden" which is British Literature.  Wink  Oh! and it's signed Ted because that is my families nickname for me. My Dad really wanted a boy. LOL!

Research Project Name: 5 Scrappy Scarves
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I have been patch working away on these. This time I tried a couple new things. First was the random patch working instead of the blocking I had been doing. I found some random patch worked pieces in my Grandmothers stash that I inherited and pieced a couple of them together into a scarf and that's when I decided to try the random method myself. I think it worked well for the monsters fabric. Second I tried the invisible thread on the top so the seem would not show. That worked great on all of them except the Monster one. For some reason when I got to that one my tensioner got all out of whack and would NOT do it. Huh I was stopping every 3 inches fixing it. In the end I redid the entire top of it in black. Still the tension wasn't quite right but I managed to finish it. I have no idea what went wrong. No idea.

Unicorns!

 and my problem child.... monsters.

I need to make at least two more of this style because I know my friend will like it.

154   First Ever painted Quilt for Dad (pic heavy) in Quilting: Completed Projects by gozer on: April 01, 2015 07:31:31 AM
My Dad is the hardest man on Earth to shop for. Every Christmas the entire family freaks out and complains about it. Last year I decided to make him a quilt since he always says he is cold. At the time I had no idea what I was getting into. I had never quilted anything successfully before.
I wanted to make it personal for him so each block was either something about him or a family member. Problem was, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I had the hardest time getting just the right fabrics. I had no idea a simple beagle or Chihuahua was going to be a headache to find. In the end I decided to paint the squares that I couldn't find. Also, a non cartoon alien or bigfoot is nearly impossible to find too.  Tongue

Another impossibility is getting a picture of my Dad that his dog isn't photobombing. LOL!
Here is a pic without the boarder done yet.

Here is a shot of some of the individual squares I painted

and here are some shots of the individual blocks.
,
My sisters block had her dog and The Wizard of Oz on it.

And here are blocks of his beloved dog and the cat

I know it is a super simple design but for my first quilt I was completely overwhelmed.  Tongue I had no idea it was going to be so much work and I was on a deadline for Christmas. I am happy to say I got it done. Sorry for taking so long to post up!

155  Cloud Light in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by gozer on: April 01, 2015 07:05:26 AM
I have been on this huge kick since my divorce on redecorating my house and making it mine, finally.  Wink I wanted to add some whim and quirkiness to it. I have an extra room now that I am hoping to turn into a multifunctional office/guest room/reading room. I have seen these on Pinterest for a while but I thought that they looked hard to make. Not sure why. Huh It was super easy. I have to admit it looks a lot better in a photograph than it does in person. With the lights on it just looks like a big piece of fluff hanging there. Undecided I was thinking if I made a couple more and had some other things around it (hot air balloon, birds, etc) it would look better.
Here is my little cloud hanging in the shower for now. I have to decide where I want to hang it up....

and here it is all lit up. I used tiny LED lights and I am thinking of getting one that flashes to give it more of a storm cloud feel.

I took a bunch of dark shots because it was turning and each angle looked a bit different to me.

Prompt: March Tecky 2K
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: (include which bonus points you think you've earned, e.g., Giver, Engineering, UFO)
Project Name: Storm Cloud light
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I have seen these on the internet and decided I really wanted to try it and give some whim to my craftroom. It's Tecky because I found the instructions on the web and it uses tiny LED lights. I thought it turned out okay, but just okay. I am going to experiment fluffing out some parts of it and tweaking it here and there.
I hung it up in the bathroom to get a good dark short. Sorry. I took a bunch of shots because every angle looks different. I used three of the lights that stay on but I am thinking of getting one that flickers to give it a rainstorm feel to it.

Prompt: Battle - Past
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: 1968 Shirt
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: Not so long ago in the past my bestie was born.  Grin I think we all know who this is by now. LOL! I made this for her birthday that is not to far away. Her stenciled shirts are way better than mine but I try.  Wink  The shirt is more of a corral than as pink as it looks on my screen. I finger painted the stencil on to give it a worn out, vintage feel.

Prompt: 60's Flower Child
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: Book page roses
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I have always loved paper and wooden flowers. I found this tutorial on line and when we switched offices my co-worker gave me his old Dictionary and Thesaurus. I knew I had to try these. The backs are not that pretty but I think the fronts turned out nice. I want to make some more where you use distressing ink on the tips of the petals. That will be my next set. Originally I wanted to make a wreath but my sister bought me one so now I am thinking of making a centerpiece that my cat won't eat.
Project Picture:

Prompt: 80's Fashionista
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: Librocubicularist Shirt
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: This is me. I read in bed, know I shouldn't but oh well.  Tongue I drew out the design of the book on the pillow myself so hopefully everyone can tell what it is. The shirt is more oatmeal colored than white but I think the flash drained the color. There is a close up of the stencil so you can see the book drawing better. Hopefully it sets a little more when I wash it. This is a clothing item. They wore shirts in the 80's.  Wink

Prompt:  Red Alert! Lucky Charms
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: I'M CRAFTY
Project Name: Scrappy St. Paddy's Bracelets
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I made these two bracelets at the beginning of the month for my Mom and me. My Dad is the kind of guy who will pinch you.  Wink I was trying to keep us safe. I'M CRAFTY because I used a very talented Craftster members tutorial for these. LesliesHappyHeart. Grin She shows you how to make these on her site and they are a lot of fun to make and turn out so cute.

Prompt: March - Roaring 20's
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: Black Cat Microwavable Bowl Holder
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: Cats roar! I made this microwavable bowl holder for myself after I used one of the ones I made my parents last month. It really works for hot soup when the weather outside is so cold. I had this fabric in my stash and I love it because it's a black cat. I have a black cat that roars at me all the time. Plus, it was made by a woman and we all know a woman can roar.  Wink
Project Picture:

Prompt: March - 40s Homemaker
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: Blue and Green Microwavable Bowl Holders
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: My Mom showed her best friend the microwavable bowl holders that I made her and she asked for some too. She wanted 2 blue and 2 green. I hope she lives these. She has been my Moms bestie for years and is like family to us and it's for her home.
Project Picture:

Prompt: March - Flash Mob - Decade you were born
Team: Wordy!!
Bonus Points: -0-
Project Name: 70's Hippy Microwavable Bowl Holders
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: My local bestie asked what I was up to and I sent her a pic of the bowl holders I had made my Mom's friend that day. She immediately put in an order for one. I made her 2. Pretty sure I will end up making her a couple more.  Wink I bought this fabric years ago. I had no idea what to do with it but absolutely thought it was the cutest. My friend loves the color orange and leaves and trees. This fabric has a tree hugger hippie feel to it I think. Hence the 70's when I was born.
