21  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Yarn substitution (lace) on: October 17, 2007 09:56:05 AM
AHA! I was thinking along the lines of what both of you said here, but at the time my brain was a little scrambled (therefore needing to confirm this)...hehe. And I will, of course, be knitting the worsted on larger needles (or else I think I'd go insane...lol). I did do a swatch of a cabled lace pattern, which turned out pretty good - yay!

So, I've been pondering about this for a while:

If there's a shawl pattern that calls for, say, 450 yds of lace weight yarn, how much worsted (or dk) weight yarn would I need for the same pattern? I know (and possibly want) that the shawl/stole will be bigger with a heavier yarn, but I'm thinking I'd need more yardage than called for in the lace weight....?

I'm just wondering about stash usage and want to sub some 'heavier' yarn for a few of patterns...

Ok, I'm done with the chart, I just have to "Excel" it...(don't have Adobe Acrobat) - anyone who wants it can pm me and I'll email it. Wink

Pics! Wink I'm making this one in a bit, I just need to finish a couple of straggling WIPs first...hehe.

Nice! I haven't decided on the color for mine yet (love yours!), but I'm making one too. Grin

I will certainly share the chart if I make one! Smiley I'm not sure why my scarf doesn't show the pattern well on the back - maybe I didn't look the right way? Hmm...

I love this so much I'm going to attempt making a similar one. Grin
