Here are the bits ElvenOne sent me! :D

We have...
An Altoids tin
Lots of various beads and some jewellery findings
Pink and blue paint sample cards
long, long strand of clear beads
Fabrics - One fluffy cowhide print, one black satiny fabric, one brown thickish cottony fabric and one gorgeous shiny blue/green and purple patterned fabric (don't you love my describing :P)
Two bits of green plastic stuff...like the stuff you use in vegetable gardens
One long length of hot pink ribbon

and no, she didn't send me a set of scales...I was just trying to get my freaking bits to weigh less than 500 grams for Jane Doe's satchel ;)

ALSO, she was the biggest sweetie and sent me some lollies, tea and choccie! :D Which I forgot to take a piccie of, yes, It's not that I have eaten everything already, It's that I 'forgot' :P :P

(Oh and ElvenOne, there was nothing scary at all about your bits silly! Well...except for the magnet of a garden gnome playing the bag pipes...a tad strange, but not scary, hehe) ;)

Hmmmmmm....... oh wow..... hehe I didnt realise how wrinkled everything was.... *insert huge blush here*

I have had those beads...... (The ones in the plastic purple thing) since christmas..... how bad is that... I opened em... but havent been able to think of anything to make with them.... (My step sister gave them to me, but I figured that since I was using them for this swap it still counts...... yeah..??)

hehe, I love that little bag pipe playing gnome... hehehe I think he was from a broadband internet add or brochure or something... lol he made me laugh, but kept getting knocked off of my tin of bits (LOL, who needs paint sample cards and empty thread thingies..???)

yay for the bits swap...!!! (there should be a round2 of this one..!!)

LOL, funny you say that because that is EXACTLY what I thought of when she mentioned the word 'scary', I must have been thinking of your rabbit pelt ;D

Here are twelvety's bits! So much fun in just one pack!

We have:
- a hilarious knitting pattern book from the 70's, embroidery pattern book from the same era and a very educational science book
- great fabrics, including some hospital issue stuff that's got my brain ticking overtime (vive le bin dive!), and a zebra placemat
- blue ribbon and blue rickrack, and pink bobbly yarn
- a white coin purse, brooch, bamboo handles and..
Some racy Hayman Island coasters, my favourite

hmmm... shall squirrel away to think now

The rest of the bolt(!) of that hospital fabric is currently buried underneath a pile of smelly old blankets at my fave op shop, I check on it everytime I go there. I want to buy it so bad but never have the opportunity to carry it home on the bus (along with the kid, the pusher and all the other crap I lug about ::) )

Okay, here is a piccie of the bits I sent Jane Doe, sorry if it's not very clear...it was taken 2.5 seconds before I raced to the post office to get the thing sent before it closed ;) (and we won't mention that I forgot to take the address with me, will we? :P)

I sent:
Some purdy roving that I stole from uni the day of the send-out...my textiles class came just in time! We were using silk fibres and I was like 'err, do we have any wool fibre by any chance?', LOL
4 diff fabrics (approx fat quarter sized each I think)
1 pc craft felt
my tape measure ;)
1 little canvas
an Altoid tin (thanks for the idea ElvenOne!)
Random buttons and a few beads
a scrap of yummy yarn and some sparkly thread
Some argyle patterned ribbon.

SO excited ;D

lol!
Ah don't worry, that's happened to me more than once I can assure you  ;)
I'm glad it arrive today though. I've been busy at prac and I came home with the creative itch to craft and there was your package on my doorstep!
And such lovely items to craft with too

I sent:

You play with fibre as part of your degree?
You lucky thing! What subject is it?
I've 2 spaces left in my degree to pick up random electives and I've been on the prowl for any subjects I might be able to expand my fibre knowledge.

At the rate I'm going, I might just be able to send you your crafts within the week.

I'm doing a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art, and I major and minor in textiles (so both my practical units and my studo work are in textiles). In one of my classes we really play with techniques, and it just so happened that this week we were doing fusing (where you use and fibre and what-not within tulle using textile medium etc.), so it was like fibres gallore ;)

How lucky was that? I was so sad that I got the master felter to craft for me and I didn't have any freaking roving, LOL ;D Now I just have to figure out what to do when next week comes, they're probably expecting some arty thing involving the wool fibre I took, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, eheh :P

I am so excited to see what you come up with! This was the best swap idea :D

OK, software up and running, here's the excellent goodies jane feebles sent me.

socks, fabric, buttons, webbing type trim (?), beads, a key ring and a post card that says "get your nuts wet", hee hee!

a fantabulous scarf with a map of aus, I am not sure I can do this justice  :-\

Aaaaaannndddd, the rabbit pelt! I have already had to rescue it off the cat, I am not sure what she was planning on doing with it but she had some kind of 'super horn' for it  ;)

I just had to laugh at that! I got this mental image of the cat laying on the pelt, kneading her paws into it and purring!  :D

(cyndiq and I should receive each others packs soon... The suspense!!!)

haha, super horn... oops..! (im thinking that means something it probably doesnt.)

Where on earth did you get a rabbit pelt jane feebles..???
(Reminds me of the time my ex step dad used to go ferreting, and I tried to cure (is that the right word) a rabbit skin..... it didnt work :( Just ended up in a big stiff piece of blah that my dog tried to eat :()

Mate, she had some kinda mega cat-horn all purring and drooling a little, I felt kinda bad taking it away from her.

Eyeuw! She was drooling too? She had it bad!  :D Ha ha ha !

If you have any snippets left over at the end of the swap you should make a little something stuffed with catnip for your cat! She'd love you devotedly forever! (With whatever love was left-over from loving the pelt.)

Oh dear, you give that pelt a good brush down before you send it back,I don't want any bits of cat loving lingering...  ;)
There's a great leather-working shop just near me ElvenOne that has everything you'd ever need for leather, including a fantastic array of all sorts of leathers.  They have everything from your basic cowhide to barramundi leather in acid colours  :) I love that place

Oh, and twelvety you can keep that postcard if you like, I chucked it in at the last minute after all your talk about snow, seeing how it's like 15 degrees warmer up here in Brissie (I sometimes get to wear a cardi at night now that winter's started  ;)) Cyndiq, don't even start

Trusty Ugg boots and long sleeved, long pants thermals under the trackies and hoodie is the outfit du jour this end. Oh hang on, that's usual for most of the year down here  :P

Title: Re: Aussie Send Us Yer Bits! swap gallery
Post by: MissMeshell on May 07, 2006 02:46:26 AM
Whoa...I'm wearing that outfit right now! :P Minus the thermals though, I have never tried them, do they actually keep you warm? We are moving into a house with no insulation or heating so they have actually been on my mind a bit... ;)

I just got a HEAP of coloured fleece from Good Sammies for $4 so I'm making blankets with this cold new house in mind :P

Thermals are great, very dorky (especially if you check yourself out just wearing the leggings and long sleeve, tucked in of course. My bf doesn't find it as funny as I do but I get a childish snigger out of him wearing his thermals). They are totally worth it,  we buy new sets every couple of years or so, I don't think I could have survived living in cold old houses here without them :)

I had a shift in ICU and it was so coldddd.....

So I was juicing about 2 kilos of pomegranates (don't even ask) when the doorbell rang and I had to go answer the door with my hands dripping red like some demented murderer. It may be my imagination but the postal lady seemed to leave in a hurry...  :-\

On the up side... My package from cyndiq arrived! YAY!  ;D

The two darker pink rolls on the left are for cyndiq's daughter's legwarmers which I will do first, as it seems she may need them soon! And then I will do the shawl which will probably be quicker as it will use bigger needles. Cyndiq's shawl will use the lighter pink yarn and the fluffy yarn together.
I'll PM you about the shawl pattern soon cyndiq!

The pink square on the fluffy yarn is a card/note from cyndiq stamped with some lovely butterflies.

Pretty colours!

Now I have to ask, how do you juice a pomegranate?
And of course, why?
 ;D

 ;D

Well, you cut them in half like an orange and you juice it on one of those plastic citrus juicers, in my case, by hand.
And why? Mainly because I can't bear to throw them away ( they came off a tree in my yard) so I will be making pomegranate syrup with the juice and some sugar. Then I will be using the syrup in mixed drinks at my Eurovision Song Contest Party. So there.
:)

Yeah, I am a hoarder who collects crafting media kind of like....

"Oh, that's fabulous!
I don't know what I can do with it, but I'm sure I'll figure something out"

And most the time it's no problem....
When I saw this swap I just knew I had to be involved.
I have so much stuff! lol

HEY! I have a couple of these at home! Just like in bluebubble's stash!

I thought I might put them on some sllippers I was going to make for my sister or (if she keeps annoying me) for me!

Aren't monkeys the cutest? I wan't flannel PJs with monkeys on them. They don't seem to make them... in adult sizes...
Apparently grown ups only want stripes and spots on their pyjamas.

I'm not sure what feathers they are bluebubble! I bought them in a pack of about 20 to use on one of my canvasses, I hope some poor kookoburra didn't lose a few feathers  :(

Geek-pride: pjs should come with monkeys on them in adult size too!! I loved that monkey so much I bought a few of them and put one on a cord clutch, sort of Paul Frank-esque

It's exciting! I'm mostly done now. Should be ready to send off by the end of the week (or maybe after the weekend, as I have a party happening )
My hands are fine when I'm knitting ...but the next day... my right hand is all stiff and weak! :(
So I leave off knitting till the end of the day, so my hand can recover, and then knit while I watch telly.
I can't not knit. It just isn't an option for me! ::) I lurves me my knitting!

You're fine!

I'd say I'm about 2/3rds done...there's one thing I'm scared to do since this 'thing' is somewhat of a rare commodity in Australia (bet you know which one I mean ElvenOne ;)), and another thing I have no idea what to do with yet...but It's going quite well methinks :)

I am also in 'developmental' stages with a few things, which will probably wind down to a crafting frenzy.
don't think I'm going to get much time this week because I just found out my partners were mixed up in another swap that's supposed to post by Saturday, and I just got the right partner info today!! (eeeeeeek!)

is it cold down there?

Oh boy IS IT!!! It was 17C maximum today. It's not too bad yet becasue I can't see my breath when I am inside. That's how I judge when it's too cold...
Perfect knitting weather though! I can't wait to send you your stuff so you can use it! ( I have to finish it first though!)

Help? The bits I received are at the top of "page 5".

I'm not sure what do with the cut up squares of painted canvas (bottom left). They are mostly muddy colours. Any ideas?

Title: Re: Aussie Send Us Yer Bits! swap gallery
Post by: SaraM on May 16, 2006 05:16:28 PM
are they thick canvas or thin? if they are thin you might be able to stitch them together to make some sort of montage to hang up, or if they are think glue then to something and make funky coasters.. I dunno, its Wednesday not my most creative of days!

they are thin...... more like cardboard actually.

ecrameri...
They might be nice layed out and placed nicely as abstract art and glued to a background. or use them joined up for a journal cover, or use them in making cards. you could add some different fibres etc to enhance a 3d effect. just ideas. good luck. ;)

I just hope I make it how you will like it, anyway everyone I have shown it off too went WOW u made that from ties!!! hahahahaha.

This thread is so quiet, how is everyone's crafting going. Not long to go and we have to post off.

Ah congrats cyndiq for being the first to finish  :)

I'm almost there - just a touch more sewing needed and I need to let the paint dry, so I'll be sending on the Monday.

This is such a fun creative idea for a swap, and I'm ready to tackle another set of bits  ;)

I'm sure I will love it. I can take a photo before I open... I hope I remember... I will be quite excited when I receive it... I might forget in the rush to see what is in the package!
I will be posting mine on Monday. The local post office is getting used to me walking in with wierd-shaped packages for various destinations. I think they were most amused when I walked in with a knitted pirate under my arm... ::)
I'm glad you had fun making it!

:D You bet it was yours! And here it all is! (I feel so inadequate now! And I want an electronic sewing machine!)

First of all     :o   Look how full the pack was:

and this was inside! A pretty pack and a card from cyndiq!

The card has this... holographic? ... butterfly on it that looks different depending on the angle you hold it at!
and when I opened this exciting package...

WOW. Look at this bag. You can't even tell it's made from daggy old ties! It has my initial G machine embroidered on the front and decorative machine embroidery where the fabric pieces join! It looks like victorian crazy patchwork!
and when I opened the bag there was more inside! And a big roomy pocket!

So I pulled it all out

And unwrapped it!

A pleated clutch and wallet made from the old neckties!  And the wallet has my name machine embroidered on the red bit! The clutch is just gorgeous!

Front of the wallet, the flap closure betrays its necktie heritage.

The inside of the wallet: it has card slots, a clear plastic pocket and a zippered coin pocket! Very impressive! But wait! There's more! An ipod nano or cell phone holder! The strap betrays its necktie history!

A cute box with jewelery made from the bits I sent her!

Necklace & matching bracelet:

Earrings: (sorry its blurry, a family member took away my camera that had focus controls!)

I love it all!!! It turned out beautiful! And the cutest part of the package (and completely unexpected!)

He even has a cute squishy butt!
  :D

Thank you SO MUCH! You're a doll Cyndi!

P.S. ( I must name the monkey...)

thanks meshell,

I just couldnt believe that 3 ties could make a whole messenger bag, I intended a simple jordy, but there was so much I went for the flap. The ties sure went further than i thought they would. I couldnt resist the evening purse/clutch, it is so fun to make and looks good I think. I was going to add little rings and a strap but wasnt sure what grace might like, so i left it for her to add if she wants. There are some bits of tie left. The wallet was a first too and the tie flap idea was aleishas and it worked out great.
I also made extral links so grace can make the necklace or bracelet longer if she wanted.

The monkeys are fun to make. I want to make more. Only draw back is they require lots of  hand sewing!

action shot of the bag, my mum fell in love with it and is the model this time.

close up of the little beaded zipper pull on the clutch, i think it is cute.

i also added one to the wallet zip pull too. I love little details like that.
Cheers cyndiq

Send her bits back day!
Please pm me when you have sent off your package, and when you recieve.
I'll knock up a list tomorrow of where everyone's at

I'll be posting during my lunch break.  I don't think I can fit it all in an express bag twelvety, it might have to be express boxed (are you excited?)

And great work on the ties cyndi.  Especially the clutch, that is reallly cute.  I made myself a tie skirt when i was about 17.  I loved that thing! I still have it at home, but I haven't worn it for years

Yay! I'm so excited. I can't wait to see everything!!

Now my bro wants me to make him a sock monkey... so thanks for that!  >:(   ;)

I am having a little swap anxiety as I don't see how anyone can match that... Off to the post office now.

I recieved a load of cool stuff yesterday from jane feebles, I am feeling less like death today so it must have been the cool things.:)
Where to start?
I sent a pack of "tropical" souvenier coasters and a pair of round bamboo handles and I got back this;

I sent a piece of brocade type fabric and a "make your own buttons" kit that had written on the packaging "no skill required!"  I got back a cushion cover with "no skill required!" embroidered on it, the dots above the "i"s and the exclamation mark are the buttons but the pic doesn't show it so well.

A little coin purse and an old science book for kids turned into this cute little purse.

A couple of balls of pinky coloured wool came back as knitted and felted (?) bowls with directions to not fill them with baked beans ;)

And some hospital fabric that became the coolest knitting needle roll EVER!!!

And some little button badges

And just because, a packet of "wipe on sex appeal", I think I might actually need it at the moment, I feel pretty skanky. I am a little too scared to open though. :P

I think I have covered everything, if you have better pics fee, go for it, mine aren't the best. The "good" camera only does great macro and the other camera is getting a bit old I think.
Thank you so much. ;D.

Haha, they come from vending machines that are in all the toilets at Sydney Airport. I stocked up recently when I was there, they're the perfect swap padder.  Nothing like making an exhibition of yourself pouring all your (and your cousin's, and her boss' niece's) change into the sex appeal machine.
No-one's ever opened one that I know of, we're all too scared it will smell like cat pee  :P

And can those people whose names are still black on the previous page please contact me and let me know where you're at. I know uni exams are on and stuff, but even if your partner knows, I need to know when you're sending.  It's been nearly a week now, not including the extension

So, i was  ;D ;D ;D very much, and went to pack away all the wrapping paper and the card, and I picked up the yellow envelope from the pick when I opened it, and it felt funny, So I opened it (I hadnt opened it already cause on it wwas taped a piece of cardboard that said so it doesnt get too bent in the mail
) AND THERE WAS MORE

Worst is when your boyfriend's home to get the package, and rings you to tell you it's arrived, describe the weight, the rattle, etc. and then asks you to stop off at the shops on the way home!
I certainly did not get his orange juice and cheese

Title: Re: Aussie Send Us Yer Bits! swap gallery
Post by: MissMeshell on June 12, 2006 04:42:40 PM
Even worser is if you know it's coming on a certain day and you wait alllll day then decide 'a watched pot never boils' and the like and go out for 5 minutes, then come back and there's a damn note saying you weren't home and it's been taken back to the post office but you have to wait for like 4 more hours for it to get back there :P

That was a long sentence ;)

I understand your pain.
the bloody postie always seems to turn up to leave the note just after i've gone to work in the afternoon. Luckily my mailbox is pretty roomy, so most things get squeezed in.  Last time i had to pick up a box from the PO it was all squashed to hell, so at least I now he gave it a good try  :)

Hmm, that's decidedly uncool that the post is so slow.
A friend sent it via express post on Friday!  >:(

Sorry about the false alert

I have opened mine, and I'm surprised at what my items were tuned into!
Wouldn't have thought of using my items in this way at all.
Thanks ElvenOne! Pics in a moment.

Man I love the concept of this swap!

Well that IS uncool then :P
I still feel safer using express though, even though it doesn't always come when it's supposed to...i just feel the packages would be looked after more you know? I hope it comes today! I've already checked the mail even though I know it doesn't come until at least after 2pm, lol ;)

lovely goodies ecrameri and ElvenOne! and ElvenOne that bag with the leaf print is just divine, I love the shape! :D

I just received my awesome goodies from Jane Doe! :D Thank you so, so much, here it is...

Here is the package! She sent a wonderful snake with the cutest face ever, a fabulous painting on the canvas I sent, a bar of felted soap from my Wists (I have been coveting one of these for EVER, I can't wait to use it :)), a scarf with felted ends...I didn't even know that was possible! and decorated with buttons and beads, yummy. Then there was a little container of the cutest felted beads EVER, they are so beautiful, I'm already figuring out what to make with them, I tried for ages to get a closeup pic of them but my camera wasn't co-operating ;) and she decorated my tape measure for me :) I am so glad to have that back actually, I didn't realise how much I used it until it was gone, lol :)

And here's Mr Snake (yes, Mr, I don't care if it is totally pink, I say it's a boy :P) in his new place in my swap partner shrine around my computer screen, lol.

Jane thank you so much hun! You are awesome. and thanks for organising Jane #2! ;)

Wow your stuff is so pretty MissMeshell! The scarf makes me envious!

... and what's felted soap?  :-\

Title: Re: Aussie Send Us Yer Bits! swap gallery
Post by: MissMeshell on June 13, 2006 11:31:50 PM
It's soap that has had roving felted around it, so when you use it in the shower it's like a washcloth and soap in one! I THINK (correct me if I'm wrong felters) that as you use it it felts more so the felted part kind of shrinks as the soap does...

Very exciting! ;D

And is that Jane Doe on the cushion/bag?

ecrameri, I still love the knitting robot  ;)

I received my package from twelvety today, but I'm not home yet! Wah! And bastard boy rang me up AGAIN to tell me all about it  :'(

the only people still to receive are ecrameri and SaraM, nearly at the end folks!

The suspense is killing me ::), there is one thing in the parcel that I really hope made it to you safe, I had to kinda stretch the bag a bit to make it fit.
OOh and to add to the painful wait for you, I named 2 of the things in your parcel (and forgot to write it in the note I sent you). The black one is Gary and the hairy one is Mils. ;D

And I love Jane Doe's green & white bag (or is it a cushion cover?) with the picture on it. The 3D hair is a great idea!  :D

Yeah I agree - the hair is so cool!
The image came from a previous swap actually.
I sent a pic of my boy and I, and the person I sent to made a screen print based on it.
She screen-printed an image on a T-shirt for me and on an extra piece of calico.
So it's interesting to see the evolution of the image.
Here it's sewn on the green material I sent which has been sewn into a cushion cover!

The other items I recieved include
-a shoulder bag
-a flower made from a felted dreadlock
-a bracelet + pair or earrings made from my plastic sheeting
-a couple of yarn bracelets + white flower
-a knitted fuzzy wristwarmer
-a necklace made from my glass beads

Title: Re: Aussie Send Us Yer Bits! swap gallery

The plastic sheeting came out great, didn't it? Especially as elvenone was so stumped by them at the beginning!

Title: Re: Aussie Send Us Yer Bits! swap gallery
Post by: Jane Doe on June 14, 2006 02:34:44 AM
Yeah! MissMeshell got her package!

I had so much fun with your stuff just trying to consider what I could make with it all.

a scarf with felted ends...I didn't even know that was possible!
Lol - neither did I until this swap  ;)
In theory I knew it should work so I spent a while testing things with my own materials before using yours.
To do it, I kind of used a combo of different felting techniques.
Thanks for going out of your way to include that beautiful wool for me to work with.

Then there was a little container of the cutest felted beads EVER, they are so beautiful, I'm already figuring out what to make with them, I tried for ages to get a closeup pic of them but my camera wasn't co-operating ;)

Yeah, they aren't the easiest things to take photos of
I wasn't sure if it made sense to turn crafting media into different crafting media, but I figured it was quite different that the other things you sent me.
If you want to see some of the things I've made with similar felted beads, let me know.

I had fun decorating your tape measure. It wasn't the easiest thing to get stuff to adhere to, but once I figured out that part it was smooth sailing.

Also I filled the snake with those little styrofoam beads so he makes a snakey rustling sound.

I'm glad you like everything - this was a very inspiring swap  :)

I looovvve my stuff, and I am SO glad you decided to do the beads! They are so amazing, I can't believe how many layers of colour are in them, they are so detailed for something so tiny! Have you got any piccies on craftster of your bead creations? I'm definitely doing some sort of necklace and I think they would make a great, quirky brooch too :)

Hey and don't thank me for sending the wool, thank my uni and my quick fingers :P lol

and I love how you used that fabric for snake scales, you know I only just realised the scale reference right this minute and It's been in front of me all day, heh ;)

You know, I don't know if I have shown my past bead stuff.  ???

Anyways, here's a few images of stuff I've done with them

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c234/-Doe-Jane/beads/ee36f8ac.jpg

They were put together by Lexis in our etsy challenge in different ways
http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=214471

And I've used them as "berries" in a felted lariat
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c234/-Doe-Jane/leaf%20necklace/679dcd7d.jpg

Recently Jaye and I put our heads together to come up with a kiwi fruit design
(I just have to show off  ::) )
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c234/-Doe-Jane/beads/785fd499.jpg

and I love how you used that fabric for snake scales, you know I only just realised the scale reference right this minute and It's been in front of me all day, heh ;)

Heh, that's the great thing about this swap.
I love how we all think so differently.
I mean, the first thing I saw when I looked at that fabric was snake  :P
When I showed the fabric to a friend, the first thing they thought, was icecream (strawberry vanilla and chocolate)

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd LOVE to do this type of swap again. I've two more recruits who would also like to join in the fun if it happens again.

hee, I like the kiwifruit  :)

Here's my package from twelvety!! Get ready for picture overload!

This is Mils (he's my favourite  :))

And this is Gary.  Doug keeps picking him up, looking all over, and putting him down, then coming back again.  I think this is successful sock creature response  ;D
I tried to get his funny little tail in the pic, but I don't think you can see it

My furry glasses case (which fits my magnifying specs I use when sewing fine things at night 12ty)

A beautifully covered journal with a decal taken from a scarf I sent over.  How did you get it so precisely neat?? I am in awe, I suck at that kind of stuff
Front

Back

A lovely enormous bag, that may be my new knitting bag  :)

PLUS a freakin cool tropicana plate, perfect for your next bbq, or to display next to my carved pineapple salad set

Thanks twelvety, you're still my hero!

Awwwww, no worries, I enjoyed trying to wrap my head around it all and only ended up with a few headaches ;)
Thanks for being an awesome partner and a great organiser  ;D

Here's a couple extra pics of "Gary" where you can see his little nubbly tail. I had to hide him and Mils from the kidlet or they may have not made it to you. He insisted on kissing them goodbye before I sent :)
The plate I found on my way to the Post Office and as soon as I saw it I knew it was just right for you.

The beads! Check out all the layers, it's just amazing...

This shows how the fabric kind of 'turns into' felt at the ends, whoa ;)

And a closer piccie of my felted soap drying on the window sill after its first use :P I'm officially addicted, thanks! (I've had so many emails asking about this since I put it on my blog yesterday!)

Has anyone heard if Crumpet's screened herself to death yet?

I've started updating some people's feedback already, and I'll update the rest this weekend.

If we run this swap again do you think we should still keep it in-Oz or open it up to the rest of the world??

Hey all, I was so inspired by this swap, I've put up a post to discuss doing it again.

So if you're interested, come on by. Fee is fairly busy at the moment so we may have to find a different mod. So if you'd like to mod please do express your interest

Thanks Jane

I think a second round would be great! I can organise if we leave it for a few weeks, but if anyone's super keen you can organise, and i'll give you a hand.  You've all been pretty easy to manage  :-*

ecrameri received my package today, so I can post the pictures safely now. :)

She sent me 8 blank coasters, 10 blank cards, some sheets of decorative paper, a bunch of cutouts from art books, and some canvas paper (this was the only thing I didn't end up using.  I also added some fabric for the book covers, some heavy watercolour paper for the book pages, and I carved a wood block to print the cards.  The scarf was a bonus from my store stock because I was so suckily late at getting this done (...damn life getting in the way of things!)

Group shot:

Inside the small accordion book (the images are solvent transfers of the images ecrameri sent me):

Inside the large book:

The coasters:

And a shot of the glarey, glarey coaster.  I call him "Dragonfork". :)

That's fantastic! Those coasters are gorgeous!
And what solvent did you use for the transfers? I have never been successful at my attempts at transferring using solvents... I must be using the wrong ones!  :P

Gorgeous bits!   I am forever looking for practical ways to use paper...any idea on how the coasters are made?  And I love the airy quality of the solvent transfers!  Could you tell me what those are and a brief how-to?  I really, really, REALLY like the items you posted!  Thanks, in advance for any info you can provide!

Oooh the coasters are wonderful as are the books! I agree with everyone that your solvent transfers are fabulous...I am so crap at solvent transfer, they always come out just looking like big ugly smudges :P

I used turps for these particular transfers -- eucalyptus oil was working too, but for some reason when I was doing my tests, they were coming out blurrier than the turps.

A solvent transfer is when you take a photocopy or laser printout (not all photocopiers work with this -- you just have to test them out to see), then put it face down on top of whatever you want to transfer the image onto, rub some solvent (turps, eucalyptus oil, acetone) onto the back of the copy, apply heavy pressure all over the surface, then peel back the photocopy and *voila*!  It's easier if you have access to a printing press to run it through, but these ones were just done at home by applying pressure with the back of a spoon.

The coasters were made by sticking stuff on top of other stuff, then varnishing with spray varnish...

I agree, I love those solvent transfers. I did one a few years ago with a polaroid to paper using the same method. Just before the polaroid dries completely you put it in a tray of water and it slides off the polaroid and then you slide your paper under it and voila!

Mr Postie still hasn't delivered my parcel... I am teetering on the edge of insanity!

That polaroid thing only works with certain types of polaroid paper... I know because I wanted to do it but I have the wron kind of camera and it doesn't take that paper.  :(

sorry for the delay in getting these pikkies up.

This lovely doll is wearing a shirt made out of the floral fabric I sent, cord trousers with a monkey on them (I find these adorable!), and a little handbag made out of the matching fabric.

bluebubble you are very clever if I think you knitted that shawl? love it! And a little bracelet made out of the trim I sent.

Great swap! Might consider doing it again, I'm always so easily persuaded  ;)

Aw god ! I'm so slack! Sorry I took so long to respond. :(

I don't think it will work with your modern polaroids, They have 2 sandwiched plastic layers that contains chemicals in the middle which make the photo develop. The ones that you can transfer with were paper with a thin layer of emulsion on the top that you could soak off.

Does that help? Also polaroid paper is obscenely expensive. >:(

And, heh heh, that doll is such a hippy! Very cute!
