Title: Circle of friends Baby Blanket
Post by: Gracie247 on April 19, 2006 04:27:34 PM
I made the 'circle of friends baby blanket' from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
the idea is to make it with a group of friends and each friend knits a strip
but i did it by myself and i don't recommend it, it took forever, but here it is  ;D
I used rowan yarn classics cashsoft dk

It looks great! I like that it's not your typical blue or pink...

i've had my eye on that project for a while... but won't do it yet since i still have a crocheted blanket that still needs to be finished (it's so tedious... it's been over a year since i started it and it's still not done yet!). great job though... it's lovely : ;D

I love it!   Hey!!  Your quote is from a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants book, isn't it? Sweetness! I love that quote!

thanks everyone!  :) it took me two skeins of each color (seven colors, so fourteen skeins). I'm not sure how long it took me because I did it in spurts. The strips themselves weren't too bad, it's just garter stitch. The part that was a little obnoxious was sewing it together. I would recommend leaving the tails from color changes extra long. Mine weren't long enough so first i had to weave in all the ends and then attach new yarn to sew them up with. It's not blue or pink because it's for my aunt, who is adopting, and we don't know if she'll get a boy or a girl. I chose this pattern too because it's really generously sized, I think it will take them right up through kindergarten.  ;D I also recommend the yarn, rowan yarn classics cashsoft dk. It is a dream to work with (it has a little bit of cashmere in it), it comes in beautiful, sophisticated colors, and it is machine washable. also, I think it's the same price or a little cheaper than the rowan wool cotton the book uses.

Your blanket is gorgeous!  I love the colors you uses and personally, I would have a hard time parting with it!  ;D

I LOVE Cashsoft, I'm making my Grandma a cardigan with it right now... I can just imagine how beautiful and soft that blanket is.  :) man, i really want to do this now, I have three babies I need to knit for...don't think I can afford more cashsoft for a while though.

D'you think Caron's Simply Soft would work? Hm...cheap, but soft....

the only reason I don't think Simply Soft would work is because it's a worsted weight and the pattern calls for a dk. you should check out knitpicks.com because they have a lot of really great dk weight yarns and they are very cheap. lots of great colors too.

Good point. >_< Wish I'd thought to get some off knitpicks before, I just got some sock yarn for my other Grandma...On second thought, maybe I should do the projects I've already planned before I get any more yarn!  :-X

thanks all  ;D
i'm lucky enough to work at a yarn store (although i don't really get a paycheck since i spend all my money on yarn!) so i got a discount on the cashsoft. plus this is a really special baby. we've been waiting for it for a very long time (still waiting but they are number thirteen on the waiting list so hopefully the list will move quickly!)  ;D
