Title: Stitch'n'Bitch in Brisbane?<<NOW ORGANISED>> details on page 2
Post by: jane feebles on March 10, 2006 12:18:33 AM
Does anyone know of a knitting/crocheting group in Brisbane, or any Brisbanites who're interesting in joining one?
I really want to hook up with some other crafty peeps.  I know Threads and More run classes, but I'm not really keen on joining a group attached to a shop (especially one that I personally find a bit mumsy)
If there isn't anything going I might start looking at setting one up in the inner city area if I can find enought people to join.  We could hire a room at a bowls club or something, and have cheap midis while we knit!!

Hi!

I can't say I'm aware of any. I've had a look (but not that hard) recently and most seem to be connected to school or church groups (these are general craft groups).

I'll be watching this thread with interest. Where's Threads & More anyways?

Bardon, on the westside.
Where do you live?  I was thinking I could try to start one at the New Farm Neighbourhood centre, they have a community room you can hire really cheap

I'm on the outer north, near Carseldine QUT. But I work at the QUT at KG.
I'm only available in the afternoons, like about 3-4:30, or during my lunchbreak, on the weekdays . I've got sport on the weekends.

I had thought about starting one up here on campus, esp. since there's lots of creative types here (Creative Industries faculty). There's always space in the refectory and the student guild has some lounge spaces and then there's just rooms that can be booked.

New Farm would be good too, though I don't usually venture down that way much. I'll continue to watch what's going on here. Surely there's more Brisbane craftsters than just us two.

OMG, how exciting!  ;D
You can definitely count me in.
Both new farm and kelvin grove are easy for me to get to.

I'd be very interested.
New Farm, KG, anywhere close to the city, is easy for me.

You know, I think we're getting enough people to start this soon  :)
I think after work on a weekday evening would be the best time.  Does anyone want to nominate a day?
Wednesdays are out for me.
Once we sort out a day we'll get a venue and I'll advertise with a couple of posters.  Maybe sparrowdesigns can advertise it on the QUT email too.  Do they still have that weekly email newsletter for creative industries?

I would be very interested in attending anything held in the City/Valley/any inner city suburb. I live at Newmarket and have a car so I can go pretty much anywhere (not Redcliffe or Logan kind of distances, though).

Yay, can't wait  :D Out of curiosity, what is everyone's stich of choice? I've recently taken up crochet again, it's amazing how quickly it all comes back to you, like riding a bike. I want to learn how to knit again too, but for now I'm concentrating on crochet, my to do list of projects is already very long  :D

Things change from week to week for me so most evenings are good for me, even weekends.

I do both, I used to prefer crochet, but now i'm into knitting again, it changes.
I figure if you are or know anyone who does something crafty and portable like embroidery or small sewing or whatever certainly join in, it's just fun to work with people.

Very BASIC knitting and beading and long/cross stitch. I would love to learn more skills from others

I used to know a bit of crocheting, but I have forgotten it all except how to make a single chain.

Oh I don't work in CI, I was just referencing that there's lots of creative type people on this campus. I'd be happy to whack up a few posters round the place though.

I can't do Thursdays or Fridays. And I've got more of a daytime/afternoon availability...

I'm also thinking of heading over to Reverse Garbage at West End next week, if anyone's interested in tagging along?

EDIT: Forgot to add, I've recently taken up knitting (again). I'm pretty slow. The craft I'm best at is sewing. I'd like to learn to crochet too.

Well everyone, how about a Monday or Tuesday evening?  I could do a Tuesday afternoon after 3, but apart from that later in the evening fits in better with work.
If everyone's cool with it, I'll check out availability of the community room at the New Farm Neighbourhood centre.  It's about $6-7 to hire, and it has a kitchen to make coffe and tea and stuff.
And if anything gets stressfull we can nip next door to the bowls club for a pint  ;D.
If anyone has any better ideas for location pipe up.  I'm not super keen on KG cos I finished my degree there a year or so ago, and I don't particularly want to run into my lecturers again!!

THis is really exciting, everyone get back to me soon!

And when were you planning to go to Reverse Garbage Sparrowdesigns?  I have to check if I have room to store new junk first.  With Roadside collections on again I'm reaching my designated crap limit before my parnter cracks  :P

Title: Re: Stitch'n'Bitch in Brisbane?
Post by: wildflower on March 28, 2006 07:47:09 PM
when do roadside collections start? :P

Availability for me is pretty easy, I can't do mondays or wednesday.

Sounds good to me  :)
$6 or$7 for the room hire?!? :o It's not that cheap is it? Surely it's $6-7 each?
Any news on availablity? Just let me know when it's on and i'll do everything i can to be there  8)

Sorry guys, I've been out with the flu, but I've finally started chasing it up.

The New Farm Neighbourhood centre has hit a slight snag, in that we need insurance to hire the room (eek!) BUT the girl at the centre thinks it's a great idea, and is talking to her supervisor about running it through the centre, which would make it completely free.  She'll get back to me in a couple of days.
I'm also looking at library meeting centres, New Farm is really heavily booked, doh.
Maybe we could approach a cafe to hold the meetings at.  If you know anyone who owns a space like that let me know. It would mean definite business for them throught us ordering coffee and such, and we'd give them an interesting attraction.  As long as they have comfy couches!!  I have one contact who might be able to find something, he owns a cuban cigar cafe, which is cool but a bit smelly for crafting! But he knows folks everywhere.

From what I'm getting off people we should be gunning for a Tuesday evening. Does anyone have a huge objection to Friday, which is an easier evening to book if we can't find Tuesdays?

There is talk of a sunday afternoon S 'N B starting up in New Farm Park, but as a full-time working woman, I like to keep the weekends free for social engagements and so forth. Besides, there is no shelter.

Monday - Thursday evenings would best suit me. Have car, will drive. I could pick up other Craftsers who live nearby, too (Newmarket, Ashgrove, Wilston, Windsor, Kelvin Grove area). I am very keen to get a group up and running as I suck at craft, am self-taught and make lots of mistakes.

I don't get much time off work, so scouting possible venues is hard for me, Respect to all who try.

Attn: Jane Feebles - I think you might be friends with my little cousin. Do you know someone who teaches art and home-ec at Miriam Vale?

Post by: jane feebles on April 05, 2006 10:05:13 PM
Ok, I haven't heard from the Neighbourhood centre, so I'd say they're out.
I was talking to my mate Fil today, who owns a rockin cafe, but isn't open at night (poo)
After much discussion I've decided the best plan is to hold it at the Three Monkeys Cafe on Tuesday nights, 7 - 8-ish
It's groovey, there's couches and private nooks, we can have nice drinks and nibbles and they're open late.
I won't talk to them yet.  I say we rock up for a couple of weeks, and if this takes off we might let them know what's going on and see if they can reserve a place for us every week.  This way takes off any stress about booking and then not getting off the ground  :)
So there it is folks.
The first Brisbane Stitch'n'Bitch will be held Tuesday 18th April at Three Monkeys cafe 7 pm  :) :) :)
Huzzah!
Please RSVP to this thread, so we know who's coming. I'm so excited!!

Ha! I was thinking of that.  Maybe we can all wear a red rose  :D
I'll get there a bit early and try to get those couches near the door out back.
I'll put knitting needles prominently on the table, big ones.  That should be enough.   My name's Fee and I have shoulder length brown hair and blue eyes, and I love long romantic walks in the rain

Aw, wow Crow Jane. Feeling very honouredl now

I have another friend who's working this week, but should be able to come next week. Bring friends who might be interested, or even a non-knitter for moral support if you need it.  I was thinking we might try giving the group a name and stuff, and then I'll make up some flyers and post them around.

Even 4's exciting for me, I don't get to knit with other people very often!

If you need a lift, pm me and we can sort something out

HOORAY!!!

The inaugral Brisbane S'n'B (official name to announced) meeting was a complete success with 4 people showing up and chatting and knitting and eating cake and drinking tea. With the help of Jane Feebles, I learnt how to intarsia (poster-boy bag is now underway).

I, for one, am looking forward to next week.

Thanks all.

Yes indeedy, thanks everyone!  I had a great time.  And for anyone still thinking about it, we all thankfully turned out to be pretty normal, non-smelly, and with varying levels of knitability (inc. a very beginner).  So come along!

Now we've got to figure out a name.
Crow Jane's partner has suggested the Art/knit Monkeys (who's the music writer, hmmm?)
plus the stuff we discussed last night:
yarn monkeys
wool wombats
I <3 pointy sticks
crafty quolls
craftsterbaters

I'll keep thinking, and make up a poster to stick up around town soon

See everyone on Tuesday!

Same time next week?

I feel your pain...until two weeks ago, I felt all alone in my knitting world.

Maybe you can start up a group by yourself and post adverts all around local uni's and TAFE/TECH Colleges (esp ones that have textile/design courses) and your local LYS.

Yahoo also has knitting meetups (I am not sure about Perth) and you could also try the knitty.com forum and the official Stitch 'N Bitch forum.

Good Luck! We will think of you next Tuesday.

We took some photos to prove we're all normal people that really exist, but we never got around to putting them up (which I don't mind cos I looked terrible! That is not a challenge Crown Jane  ;))

There's about 9 of us on the email list now, and we get around 7 or so people every week
We've already started optioning for a group excursion to a pub one weekend afternoon to partake of the amber fluid whilst knitting

Ungh, didn't have a number to contact the people I knew would be there today - I went to drive to the train station and ended up moving 500m in 20 minutes on the highway. Still no idea what was so bad about the traffic, but it was horrendous, so I tried to go see the Redcliffe people to see if there was anyone cool I could bring to Three Monkeys, but couldn't find them. *sobs* I consoled myself with $5 worth of 20c pattern books from the Salvos store.

Oh no. It took me awhile to get there also, and the road next to the parklands was blocked, so I had to get out of the car at the top of the hill. About 7 people turned up and we sat in the cafe knitting until about 2ish.

We were thinking we might try it again at the parklands in a month or 2, on a day that is fine. It was really nice even at the cafe all chilly and windy with cannons going off in the background

Due to my severe hypochondria (bulging discs in my back and the bloody flu) I haven't been to a S 'n B for ages. I was really looking forward to going tonight but alas, one of my cats, Rupert (the one in my avatar) had to have emergency dental surgery today and can't be left alone tonight (my bf has to do his community radio shift). And next Tuesday I will be in Canberra freezing my arse off. The following week I promise I will be there, come hell or high water (unless my one of my cats needs me). Have fun tonight guys.

Hey guys!  Thanks for the lovely welcome!

Won't be able to come tonight - still recovering from a bout of gastro  :'(

But hopefully next week?  Also - I don't knit but would love to learn.  I might bring some beading to do.

Cheers
Kat

No worries. We've taught a few people to knit along the way, so if you want to learn bring some yarn and needles.
Don't bring seed beads or anything if you have bad eyes, the light isn't super bright (One day we will find that brightly lit, centrally located pub that has good tea and coffee, food, beer and couches *sigh*)

I will be in Brisvegas for holidays in a few weeks, I'd love to come if that's cool?

I will miss my Perth SnB terribly while i am gone so I'm really hoping I'll be able to make it to the 3 Monkeys :)  (which reminds me... I have no idea where that is! could someone please PM me the address/directions?)

Thanks guys!

Of course you can come along - we LOVE visitors. With a capital LOVE.

As for directions - I only know how to get there from three places, so I might not be the best one to give them to you ;) Do you know where you're staying (suburb wise, I mean)? Could probably figure it out from there for you :)

I can organise you a map if you'd like.  I guess it all depends on how you think you'll be getting there.  If you are catching public transport I could meet you ata a station or stop, so you couldn't possibly get lost.

Ooh, this is so exciting. Thanks so much guys!
I'll most likely be using public transport, but am not entirely sure yet. No-one could ever accuse me of being organised!
I will definitely keep in touch, cos it's still at least ten days til I hit Brisbane (again, not organised... I'm staying with rellies in Monto, cow-town up north) and will keep you updated.

If anyone you you guys are ever in Perth, you must get in touch! I have visions of Stitch'n'Bitches being like sororities or freemasons societies or something... so whenever you are in a new city, you look up the SnB and they show you around!

Righty-o, will PM you closer to the date, and thanks again for being awesome!

I was in Perth this time last year, and I miss it. Except that it's almost as bloody cold here atm as it was there. *kicks cold weather*

The worst of it - I didn't find any yarn stores over there, and now I've heard about heaps since. Bah!

Title: Re: Stitch'n'Bitch in Brisbane?<<NOW ORGANISED>> details on page 2
Post by: indienial on July 27, 2006 08:09:12 PM
... heaps? that might be a slight exaggeration ;) hehe. as far as I can work out, there's about two *worthwhile* specialist wool shops left in perth a lot of them have closed down recently which REALLY sucks. i suppose the upside is all that cheap sale yarn but somehow i manage to miss the sales. There are also a few non-specialist shops which are okay too tho, it can just take a while to suss out where they are.

Where is good to buy yarn in Brisvegas? I've never found a wool shop there either! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys have, we miss out on so much over here.

Honestly I don't know that we have anything great over here.  There is a store in Bardon called Threads 'n' More, I think they have some very nice stuff.  I get the impression that they are a little pricey, which they can probably afford to be on account of the complete lack of yarn stores.  The fabled (meaning I have only rarely heard of it and never been there) Craft Warehouse may be worth a look.  I cannot vouch for it though, as it is on the north side of town.  I am from the southside, and as such have absolutely no clue what so ever when it comes to the north.  Everyone in Brisvegas is one or the other, I am yet to meet someone who does both.  i do remember seeing a really nice yarn store in Ipswich, which is the next town to the South West.  It was some time ago though, so it may not be there (or be good) anymore.  Probably not worth the trek.

Threads and More is nice, but it's very expensive. It's a luxury yarn store, so it's not somewhere I shop often.

The best stores I've found have been up in Gympie and stuff. That, and Big W. I went stashing today, bought a crapload of Carnival 8 ply pure wool, cause it says on the label "suitable for felting" and I was horribly excited by the idea. I'm such a bad girl.

But yeah... I've never heard of the craft warehouse, and I'm from the northside. *shrugs* there's a decent yarn store at Redcliffe, Thurects - well, it's a craft store, but it has some pretty good yarn in there.

ya, there's also cleveland crafts, which apparently has a pretty good range of yarn and is about 50c a ball cheaper than spotty's

indienial, I looked it up and you can catch the 199 in the city from stop 47 on Adelaide st up the George St end, and then get off on stop 5 on Boundary St West End. Tell the driver you want to get to Coles and he/she'll put you in the right spot. The cafe is just around the corner from the supermarket

But one of us can find you in the city or pick you up no worries  :)

I'm coming tonight - i'm excited but feeling slightly shy due to newbie-dom...
Can't wait.

What kind of things do you bring to a S'N'B? Is there some kind of 'rules' on what not to bring? :)

Wish I'd been able to make it tonight, but one of my best mates leaves for Glasgow (for nearly two years!) in less than ten hours, so I had to go to her going away party.

.. Too late for you, no doubt, but my list of essentials for a stitch and bitch, in case anyone else is curious (and cause I'm a rambler):

~Cash for the hot chocolates
~Projects (normally at least two, I like variety and choice)
~Tools - and spares of everything I think I might need, from stitch holders to pens, cause everytime I don't bring something, I need it
~Jumper and scarf, cause it gets cold outside :)
~Sense of humour

... Anyone have anything to add?

As for what not to bring... erm, the kitchen sink is probably overkill, and big knives are scary. Scarier than pointy sticks. :)

We seem to average about 7 people, tho it's a rotating attendance

I've got a s'n'b project, which is a wrap around vest from the Vogue guide to Knitting 1972. It's easier to have one thing that I can grab for every week. But there's all sorts of other things going on too. I shan't steal people's thunder and reveal their projects  ;)
And someone always seems to find a funny pattern that we can all have a snicker at every week, whether it's models of dubious sexual orientation or stripping bikini babe mice- you sooo better bring that pattern next week pinky_pi!!

I generally just grab my knitting bag, which is storage for whatever I'm knitting atm. Unless there's something that makes me want to poke out my own eyes with the knitting needles, that I'll leave at home. So I'll have a couple of projects.

Wish I'd brought some of my vintage patterns before I shipped them off to my secret pal, they were FANTASTIC - in a hideous kind of way. XD Gotta send something embarrassingly aussie in an overseas swap, right?

Yay for sniggering at old pattern books!  It is practically a hobby of mine.  Anyone that has known me long enough knows that if you run into me on a Saturday you are likely to be shown the days op-shop finds.  Usually that includes an old pattern book or two.  They all know I'm joking when I say I'll make knitted dress 'A' or crocheted pants 'B', but I can tell they secretly worry that I might just be serious.  They are right to be concerned.

I am currently knitting up an assortment of headbands for a swap, so I will likely bring those along next week.  Jane Feebles idea of having a s 'n' b project to bring each week is the way to go I think.  I can't seem to do it though as I seem t have trouble finishing projects.  No trouble begining them of course.  So I usually bring at least 2 WIP with me and an assortment of yarn, needles, hooks and patterns for, um, well just in case.  It isn't a good idea, because it is a lot to lug about.  It is how i work tho.

Hey I found it!   ;D  Remember last week I was saying something about a crazy frilly crocheted math thingy, that was NOT a moebius?  The best my crappy memory could recall that it was called a 'something' plane.  Well I googled around and found it (thank goodness because not knowing was making me nuts).  It is called a hyperbolic plane and here is where you can find one;

http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/16/crocheting.php
http://www.moonarts.com/blog/fp-hyperbolic-plane.htm
http://www.math.cornell.edu/~dwh/papers/crochet/crochet.html

I started making one ages ago when I first saw it, because you don't really need a pattern once you get the basic idea, but I have to warn you it takes ages.

Well, I think that maybe the type of excursion being suggested is of the 'meet up at licensed venue and partake in alchohlic beverages whilst attempting to knit' variety, rather than the 'drive up to national park to knit over devonshire tea then feed the birds' type.  But, don't take my word for it.  I have been known to be wrong, um... frequently.  Actually option 2 sounds nice too, nothing wrong with that, just logistically difficult and not likely to be half as funny.  :)

My god, are you inside my head??? LOL I think we all know what I lean towards, but let's make this a democratic thing. Knitting in sunshine is quite nice, a knitting picnic could be fun. Even somewhere as easy to get to as New Farm park or something (and Zen bar at the Powerhouse is around the corner *cough cough*
Or even a bbq at a less populated park that we can bring partners and friends to, to prove 'your knitting thing' isn't populated by grannies and/or geeks (the bad type that is)
Does anyone else have suggestions?

It's cool.   About 5 min after I posted that I discovered that you can get the same effect with easter egg dyes.  I don't know if they have the in-built acid like Kool-Aid does, but at least I can get them off the shelf at my local Coles.  Well, that and now I have just signed up for the My Country Doesn't Have That Swap 6.  So if anyone has a hankering for some OS supplies, there is still a few days to sign up, I think.  I figure there is a good chance of being matched up with someone that can send me Kool-Aid.  A box should do me.  ;D Just enough to get this dyeing thing outta my system.  Then I'm on to spinning, ya know just once or twice.  Which reminds me... did anyone see, Lincraft have roving.  Well, something similar anyhow.  it is Tonia Todman branded, which is gonna hurt me some.  I'll be fine after I have ripped the label off.  OK, maybe that is a little too harsh.

Cool, ta.  I don't know what that stuff goes for.  But I figured it was pretty safe to assume that a handful of lincraft/Todman stuff would be overpriced.  Hence, I came away empty handed, even if I was excited to have laid my eyes on such a thing for the first time.

Hi there, very interested to see brissy has a snb gang! As it is getting into summer, the idea of knitting in a beer garden certainly appeals. But does anyone actually know a pub that has a good beer garden? Considering we live in the 'sunshine state' I have found these to be distinctly lacking!!

Maleny *sigh* We're going to go on a knitting pub crawl to find a new place, but not till after pinky_pi finishes uni!
I love your avatar green pea, the bunny with the fried egg rocks. Did you make them?

I was thinking for an excursion we could all go and knit at the multicultural festival at Roma St Parklands on the 15th of October. A few picnic blankets should set us right. There might be a few international nannas to teach us new tricks  :)

So my suspicions about there being no decent beer gardens in brissy were right - you have to go all the way to Malaney! It is beautiful there tho!
Thanks on the avatar - yep I made them myself! I'm becoming a bit obsessed with making plushies/ stuffed toys/ sock monkeys....
You all know there's a craft fair happening again at the convention centre soon? I know it can be a bit twee, but there are always great finds to be had (though hopefully there won't be even more scrapbooking stands this time, I think they are taking over the craft world!!!).It's on Oct 18 -22.

I'd be interested in that.  I went a few years ago, but was put off, because I was able to count the non-scrapbooking stands on one hand.  I hope it has improved too.

Guys I reccomend running down to your local Big W.  The whole of the Shean Sheep range of yarns is down to a dollar a ball.  In fact all the interesting yarn is down to a buck.  I feel a ten dollar Swifty Knit Boobholder coming on.   ;D

I think I have a problem. Aside from the storage problem, which I thought I had under control. Time to de-stash, I think.

O wow, how the hell did i miss this thread?

Any Snb's coming up soon?

The amount of things i've started knitting then got sidetracked with something else.... i started the alien illusion scarf but then i decided to do the backbacks with a green alien face but then i messed that up... I'll start from scratch at my very first snb meeting.

Keep me in the loop!

Very excited... xox

Yes it does mean sick
As you'd know by now I didn't make it, the traffic thing was too crazy! My SO was comign to pick me up from work, and after an hour he still couldn't get over the river. Someone from work dropped me at a train station and I got home that way. By then, being oogy  :P I was over it all.
BUT I think I've found my new snb project, hurrah! I'm going to make this http:www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/swebedjacket.htm (http://http:www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/swebedjacket.htm) but with short sleeves. I only have 3 balls I got sent from Italy (it's niiiiiiice) so the challenge will be to get it made

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=90480.0
Don't worry I still have 2 balls left that I didn't overdye.  1 of 'em won't stay that way long though.

Those of you that picked up easter egg dye from Coles earlier in the year, watch out, that stuff packs a wallop.  I was concerned I'd only get a colour mild wash out of it, boy was I wrong.  My puny 100gr of yarn was saturated with colour, literally, the rest of the pigment went down the drain.   ;D

You simply have to do something about that littlemissknit.  I mean, NOTHING  :o  Hmm, maybe they don't wanna encourage gambling or something.   ???

Well, I will be there with my hat.  As, I will be coming straight from work, I will be lookin reasonably classy.  Well, you know, about as classy as I can get.  Heh heh.  Um, what i mean is I'll match my hat to my dress, um, one with a high neckline I 'spose.  But, I won't be breaking out my gloves or Chanel or anything.  Not even a vintage frock.  This year, I'm a good gal, I'll just match.

What about you Jane Feebles?  You made the call on the hats, how far must one go?  Is knitted OK?  Mine is not knitted, but i figure someone will wanna do that.

Knitted hats?! I have a knitted cap that I wore last week but I was looking for an excuse to score a proper "cup" hat with frilly bits and everything that will be impossible to take home!
I will be classy, matching dress (from the thrift shop) and perhaps a thrifty hat.
beyond exciting for my last week in oz!

Cool.  My hat has thrifty origins and I love it to death, well not quite.  It has a little bit of netting on it and everything.  There are really nice hats out there at the thrift stores, but it may take a little bit of searching to find one in good nick.  It is worth it though.

Yeah, the knitted ones I have patterns are a little silly I think.  The crochet fedora style thing is my fave.  I have one for a big behive looking thingy made with that plasticy raffia stuff.  It's hillarious, I must try to find all those things for a hats only version of 'look at this amusing/scary vintage pattern I found'.

Hey...

Im from Costa Rica just moved to the goldcoast... I was looking for a group like this...

So i go to meetup.com and i find a spanish speaking group am all exited talk my language what a relief and i went..and could you belive only 2 out of 31 people actually spoke with me...

So unconfortable to get into a place where everybody is already speaking and such so i said a few hi's trying to be social and nothing i walked out the place and they didnt noticed...

And so i wrote a mail , i had to say something was so annoyed.. and got an email from a guy saying i was kinda young and the way i dressed (jeans and shirt ...loads of jewellery)..so basically couldnt i expect them other people aproaching me  >:( ..

Could you belive the whole racism!! just coz of how i dress! and my hair!,,,i was pissed...and i promised my self never to go into any of this stuff again....

::) But now i want to go to this one  :D at least i know i'll find people who have something in common with me ... How does it works? what do i bring? ...

ahhh its 3am and i just found this hahaha will read more tomorrow..

hope your ok...

Namaste!

Anyone who doesn't want to talk to you because of what you are wearing is not worth a minute of your time.  Just bring along whatever project you are working on Natiux.  Wear whatever you feel like, I sure do.   ;D

I have had a bad experience with meetup.com too.  I tried to join a knitting and crochet group, that never actually met (and still has not as far as I know).  It was very dissappointing, but this group is very friendly.

Craft & Open day is on the 27th of May.  What do you reckon guys?  It promises stalls, demonstrations, workshops and a fashion parade.  I figure it will be nice to go along to check out the stalls, watch some spinning and maybe have a devonshire tea.  Besides, I have promised to take my Nana, so I will be there for sure.  :D

The first Brisbane Stitch'n'Bitch will be held Tuesday 18th April at Three Monkeys cafe 7 pm

Damn, we did miss the one year anniversary! It's a milestone that needs to be celebrated, IMO!

Still on at the same place and same time? I'd love to actually come along again one of these days.

I haven't settled on any one pattern. Just making a list and checking it twice and all of that. I've ordered some laceweight alpaca, so when it arrives it might help make up my mind for me :)

Oh, you're famous Vicki! I just responded to a question in the Livejournal knitting community where the poster mentioned seeing a girl in Brisbane CBD whipping out a spindle and having a bit of a spin in her lunch-hour. I had a sneaking suspicion I'd know who it was ;)

Just wanted to give my apologies for not being around. I haven't been well for much of January and on top of that have been pretty broke as a joke. I probably won't be around for another few weeks at least, sorry to say. I miss you all and am looking forward to returning, once things are looking up for me.

Hello, I guess because the replies have been rather sporadic I was wondering if you were still meeting ... or if you will still be meeting in December as I am currently in Japan.

Title: Re: Stitch'n'Bitch in Brisbane?<<NOW ORGANISED>> details on page 2
Post by: Miss_Vicki on November 06, 2008 10:44:27 PM
I am so sory you did not get a reply MissMeat.   :'(

We are still meating each and every week like clockwork.  Same place and time too.  But it would seem that our regulars don't visit Craftster much anymore.  That is why it is so quiet here on the board.  I for one, have been very naughty and have not logged on for many many months.  I promise to pay more attention here from now on.  Actually, I am wondering now how Ilived without it.

Anyway, to answer your 2nd question... Yes we will be meeting in December, probably every Tuesday.  In a few weeks time, when the 3 Monkeys cafe post up their holiday hours, I will confirm the 23rd and 30th.  Those two could be a bit iffy, but the first 3 Tuesdays of December we will most definately be there.

Thanks Miss Vicki, it was nice meeting you also. I came this last Tuesday too ... I took my Japanese friend to meet the Japanese people ... but we didn't see them ... I didn't see you guys either ... oh well ... we just sat and had tea. When will the next meet be after Christmas?

But we were there, out the back.  Both Kate and I were a bit late, but there was a big group this time.  It is a shame you did not find us  :(  I did look to see if you had come to meet the Japanese group, but I did not see them either.

We will be there this Tuesday still, and I would not be surprised if the Japanese group are there too.  They are almost always there, and you know the only time we are not there is when the cafe is closed.

It wasn't a problem, I was there with my friend & we had a nice time just talking. I did see one of the guys from the Japanese group as we were leaving.

I'm meeting my friend again on Tuesday then I'm coming ... either to sit myself down with you or the Japanese people ... it depends on if she wants to come with me & if I can get myself organised. My mum gave me a sewing machine for Christmas (my old one was older than me), I'd love to show you the bag I made.

Also all of my boxes have arrived from Japan, I'll bring the books that I thought you would be interested in.

Hope to see you soon.

It's been a couple months since the last person asked, so I'll ask again, is this still happening? If so, where can I find you in the restaurant? it's a pretty big place.

I recently moved to Brisbane from NYC and I'd love to meet some people and get help with my burgeoning crochet skills.

thanks!

Just logged in to check the thread to see if anyone has posted to see if we still exist.   :D    Sooooooo slack about checking in.  Anyhwo, YES we are still meeting,  every Tuesday without fail.  We have only ever missed one meeting since 2005, and it was a couple of years back anyhow.  So come and stitch with us, we'll be nice I swear.  You can find us right out the back, you have to go through a few rooms to get to us so don't despair.  Be sure to order a slice of the green tea cake on the way through, it is great.  Oh and do not worry if you are not a knitter, we have had all kinds of Craftsters around our table, it is all good.   :-*
