Title: Jim Henson Swap (Sign-ups CLOSED. SEND OUT EXTENED TO 4/22/06)
Post by: anna-begins on March 01, 2006 06:22:27 AM
And now let's get things started...(Why don't you get things started?)...It's time to get things started on the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppetational swap of all swaps! Yes, folks, here is the long awaited Jim Henson Swap!

Swap name: Jim Henson Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: anna-begins
Sign-up date range: 3/1/06 - 3/15/06
Date to send item by: 4/22/06
Limited to a certain number of people?  Nope!
Non-U.S. participants allowed? YES
All ages allowed? Or 18+?  All ages (16 and under please get permission from your parents!)
Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders" list and will not allow those members to participate: YES
Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

DETAILS:
This Swap is to celebrate Jim Henson, so it can include anything he was involved in. When we hear the name Jim Henson, the first things that come to mind are Muppets and monsters; however, Jim was also involved in creating some wonderful fantasy worlds where Fraggles danced their cares away, Gelflings raced to get the shard to the crystal in time, and Davie Bowie wore tights.

Because this swap is not limited to one show or movie, it is possible that you may get a partner who has different Henson favorites than you do. I will do my best to match people up with similar interests, but I may not always be able to do that. For example, a Sesame Street fan might be paired up with a Dark Crystal fan and have to make crafts that pertain to their partner's likes and not necessarily their own. Because of this, I've listed some links to where you can find information about some of the shows/movies/etc. that Jim was involved in. You can find the list here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=73613.msg776287#msg776287 (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=73613.msg776287#msg776287)

If you want to participate, please send the following information to the swap organizer:

REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO THE ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE - DO NOT REPLY WITH IT HERE.

I am not putting any specific rules on this swap, like you must send "x amount of items".  Please just work hard on what you make and send something out that you're proud of.

Ok, so this isn't really Muppet related, but you might remember this from Sesame Street-- this project kicks so much butt it's not even funny!

Ha ha - yeah, his name was Lew Zealand, the "boomerang fish thrower".
I wonder what the Muppet crew was smokin' when they came up with that one!

Seriously!  He used to freak me out a little!  Who was the guy that used to run around blowing things up?  Was that him too or was that a different Muppet?  For some reason I always confused those two!

That's Crazy Harry. And I get them confused, too.

I almost came to blows with a coworker who had this problem and repeatedly tried to convince me that The Count and The Amazing Mumford were actually one character. I'm all, "Look. They have different accents. They even have UNIQUE names. They are not one character." The only things in common are that they both wear capes and they are built on the large lavendar base. I think she's a puppet rascist. I bet all large lavendars look the same to her. ;D

I had almost forgotten about Mumford!  "A la peanut butter sandwiches!"

Another one I almost forgot about-- Sherlock Hemlock!  You don't see him too much anymore!

Quick reminder to everyone that our due date is a) Easter weekend and b) two days before taxes are due! The post office is likely to be craaaaaazy, like Crazy Harry.

And I'll leave y'all on a happy note with an adorable little conversation I found.
Cookie Monster: Why you saying this aloud?
Martha Stewart: Well, I'm trying to teach you a recipe, but you seem to be...
Cookie Monster: Should me write this down?
Martha Stewart: No, no, don't write this down, because you know why? All these recipes are always on the website.
And you are internet savvy, aren't you?
     Cookie Monster: Say wha'?
     Martha Stewart: Internet savvy.
     Cookie Monster: What website?
Martha Stewart: Savvy. Savvy. Knowledgeable. You know how to go to the website, right?
     Cookie Monster: Go to website?
     Martha Stewart: Yes.
     Cookie Monster: What website?
     Martha Stewart: My website. MarthaStewart.com.
     Cookie Monster: Dot wha'?
     Martha Stewart: Like SesameStreet.com.
Cookie Monster: Martha... me only monster. Me not know that much.
Martha Stewart: You are a very smart monster. Now, I'm putting in all the dry ingredients...
Cookie Monster: Anyone know what website is? Anybody?
     Martha Stewart: Website... Internet...
Cookie Monster: Nobody knows what website is. Me think you imagining it. Web-Site.

LOL!  Thanks for the laugh!

Ya know, I was thinking about maybe extending the send out date by a week because of the holiday & I had totally forgetten about taxes until regasbox just posted this....   What do you all think?  Should I move it up to April 22nd?

I have not problems with an extension of a week. While i would get everything done, it would be nice to have some extra time to spend on some little extras.

Aren't taxes actually due the 15th?  Or is it one of those wacky things where they're always due on a weekday?  We've been doing ours in late January/early February, so I pay less attention now.

Well, either way, the post office will be nuts, so probably an extension would be a good idea.  Personally, I may actually end up sending early (*gasp!*), but I suspect most everyone would be grateful for an couple extra days to avoid the last-minute-tax rush.

Pieces,

Joanne

Round 2???  :D

Please.  I have a lot of muppet and Fraggle ideas waiting for me to find time for them.  Getting excited 'cos I have been informed that my local indie cinema is showing a muppet double feature next month.  I never got to see any on the big screen before  :-[
