Details of swap:
Eveyone has done it, seen some cool item they would love to make only for it to dawn on them that they have no clue how to make it. Well here's your chance to remedy that. In this swap you will choose a craft that you would like to learn from your fellow craftster and they will send you a kit so you can become a pro. When you are putting on your list kits you would like to make up don't limit yourself, anything you might think someone else would like to know(say you've made a cool purse a few weeks ago) then put it on you list. If you're stumped for ideas here are some links to help. Also to remember when you are brainstorming on kits you could make that you need to include all items needed to do the craft. For some kits it is understood that the crafter must have certain things (Ex. sewing machine) to do the craft but you need to include as many of the products needed that you can.

Well, I'm wondering, because I can do a "learn to knit kit", and  than I could do like "Learn to Knit 2 - In the Round!!" or "Learn to Knit-Cables!!" Would anyone want further knitting instruction- I know a lot of people want to learn knitting in the round and all that??

(but not much else. besides sewing)

Cool! So glad I found this, I started a thread on glitter similar to this about a month ago, and someone linked me to the first round so I'm glad there's a new one here.

So I have to post 15 times, and I do believe I've been signed up for a month at least, I signed up a couple years ago but forgot that I.D. and since then I've been a lurker. The 15 posts are the only thing I need to be eligible right?

You have awesome sewing skills!!!  I love the skull purse you sent!!!  I am debating whether or not I should give it to my sister-in-law.  You could put a pattern together for someone to sew....

I am going to sign up.

I don't think so might give other people some ideas of what they can make as well.

The list of who's in the swap was just updated, I'll try to update it every few days.

Also I know the plan right now is to put out a list of kits and then have everyone pick but would anyone object if some people are partnered from their initial list they give of willing to make and wants to learn? It looks like I will be able to do that with at least some people.

i just sent my info and then thought of another kit i could do. i totally forgot that i know how to make soap!

i think partnering would okay too, if people are matching up, then why not?

Okies, here goes. I've offered to make the following kits

     1. intro to wet felting kit
     2. intro to knitting kit
     3. intro to crotchet kit
     4. Sushi-making kit
These three kits would provide various techniques, not instructions on how to make a specific item (except the sushi kit)

Specific kits:
   1. How to make a dream catcher
   2. A wet-felt scarf
   3. A wet-felted ball bracelet
   4. A sewing kit to make a bag

If anyone has any questions about them, feel free to ask  :)

oh, i forget to put wet-felting on my "would like" list!  and i think making the bathroom smell like wet sheep would be nice revenge on whomever in my hall carved a pumpkin and washed the guts down the drain, thus making it reek of rotting pumpkin.

these are the kits i offered to make:

1.  crochet, project or basics
2.  knitting, project or basics
3.  origami
4.  polymer clay, jewelry or little critters or whatever
5.  crocheted wire and bead jewelry
6.  macreme jewelry
7.  stuffies
8.  single-layer stenciling
9.  loom beadwork

I'm interested, but I don't want to get swamped - I'll have to remember to check back at the end of the month.

Thinking about what I could do - I can do circle skirts, maybe a learn to crochet, or some specific crochet projects.  If we did a specific project one would it have to be a pattern of our own making, or could we take an existing pattern and expand on it, for example do a photo tute to go with it?

I presume it'd be OK to communicate with a partner with regard to their likes, skill levels, equipment etc...

I'm really interested, but I think I'm going to see how I'm doing in the wait after Christmas to sign up.

I'm just wrapping up my first swap--- but would love to participate in this one (photo gallery from round 1 looks great)

Thanks for accepting sign-ups up until the 30th.  It will give me time to mull it over.

I'll be back

besides-- I don't see many people making homemade paper so i could bring that to the table-- a nice little kit with everything you need, it could be fun

December is such a busy month! I started making gifts in Oct. and then for whatever reason I didn't make much in Nov. so now I still have gifts to make! That's one of the reasons the sign up and crafting period is so long, everyone needs some catch up time.

Oh and the kits I intend to offer to the table are
1. Intro to Quilting, with the project of patchwork wall quilt
2. Intro to tatting
3. Intro to maching sewing
4. Pet toys/accessories

Also the approved list was just updated.

Oh yeah, I'm IN!

Here's what I put on my can teach list when I signed up:

1.  Tin Purse
2.  Wire jewelry
3.  Card making or scrapbooking.  (Although the scrapbooking one might be kinda involved because scrapbooks aren't always cheap, and since bookbinding was one of the things I want to LEARN, I'm not sure I could MAKE one.)

And here are the things I forgot that I could add to the can teach list:

4.  How to knit
5.  How to crochet
6.  How to Kool-aid dye yarn, including a knit or crochet pattern for when you're finished

I'm sure there are tons of other things I could teach, too.  I wouldn't even mind getting paired with someone who wants to learn something I have to stretch myself to teach.  It would be a learning experience all it's own to come up with something really extra cool for someone in a craft I'm not as familiar with yet!

And hertrigger, your list is great. There's lots of things on it I've never done.

My list that I can make is even less creative then everyone combined!!!!

Yikes.  I better do some serious new learning!

Any--who....I can do:

**Embrodiery (my fav)
**Simple jewelry
**Crochet
**Knitting
**Needle Felting (I have been obsessed lately...my mind is whirling with this)
**Simple Quilting

I really could work something else out too.  All it takes is a little research and some energy to experiment.

snack on!

Oooo...I forgot....I would love to create a how to a felted knitted goodies kit.

No more self deprecating posts!!

Everyone here has something to offer.
We all hang around craftster because we all love craft, and are creative people in our own different ways.
That's the point of this swap!
Also you don't have to make a tutorial for something difficult or or a specific skill
Have a look though the featured projects - only half require indepth knowledge of a specific skill. Most are crafty creative ideas that would have made great tutorials for a swap like this.

If you don't feel you have the skills, make a tutorial kit of something of your own creativity and good ideas  :)

lol just send me a PM on what you would like to update. I know how it is to change your mind after brainstorming.

I wonderd about this. In the instructions it says that you can mark them as in progress once a person has been approved for the swap.

Poppy's mum - you've convinced me.  I've been umming and aaahing about this swap, and the possibility of learning either decoupage or altered books and JaneDoe's statement have made me feel a whole lot better.  Rereading the thread, there's so many crafts I'd love to learn to do.

I'm going to sign up, and the things I reckon I can make are:

* Learn to Crochet kit, probably with a hat as the FO, maybe amigurumi animals if I can do one by then.
* Circle skirt kit, I'd need to know some info from the recipient for this one.
* Greetings cards kit - for general ocasions - blank cards.  Sadly I have no pictures of the style I can do, as they are all on my old hard drive, and I've not done any for a while.

I'm in the UK.

My list that I can make is even less creative then everyone combined!!!!

Yikes.  I better do some serious new learning!

Any--who....I can do:

**Embrodiery (my fav)
**Simple jewelry
**Crochet
**Knitting
**Needle Felting (I have been obsessed lately...my mind is whirling with this)
**Simple Quilting

I really could work something else out too.  All it takes is a little research and some energy to experiment.

snack on!

Oooo...I forgot....I would love to create a how to a felted knitted goodies kit.

i REALLY want a needle felting kit out of this deal...it would make my heart grow three sizes (just like el grincho).

kits i can make
(offered on questionaire)
knitting (basic to a bit more advanced eg. round, dpns)
embroider
(not)
notebook such as this
sewn bags or other small projects

and id really really like to get either a...
neelde felting kit
or
spinning kit

and i have ooone other question......
are we expected to make a kinda "kit pak" or a cool holder for everything? sorry if that was already answered, i kinda just blew through the first few pages.

Oh I'm too easily pressured into doing things. I'm in.
Hmmm.
I'd love to learn
more stuff about wet and needle felting
spinning
soap making
book binding
papermaking
crochet

I can teach
Knitting- or a specific knitting technique like socks, or cables or felted/fulled purses
jewelry and beading
felted soap- as snacker mentioned I'm hooked on this now. I think I could make up a kit for someone else to do it.
record bowls

I'll have to brain storm about whatelse I can make. I'd really love to do a knitting related kit.

ETA: Just did! My crafts are:

1. Knitting
2. Record album books
3. Simple quilting
4. Record bowls
5. Pins from old earrings (the last two are more like mini-craft kits I'd be happy to send along with one of the bigger ones)

OOh, if you do record album books, you could do a record bowl kit at the same time, with hardly any extra effort!

I'm getting so excited about this whole thing!  I'm just crossing my fingers that SOMEone, SOMEwhere will want a tin purse kit, because my brain has been folding itself around that idea ever since I signed up.  Please, please PLEASE someone want that kit!!  :D

(I know, it sounds so lame, but I've got some AWESOME hinged-lid vintage tins just aching to be purses...  This was my first example, but if I made a kit it would be SO much cooler than this!!  You can find it in the featured projects:
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=76;action=display;threadid=3871 )

I was thinking, too, like someone else mentioned, that I wouldn't even mind getting a kit of something I already know how to do, just to get someone else's creativity infused into my project.  You know, just because I know how to embroider doesn't mean I'd think to embroider a certain design in certain colors on a certain item, and that would be my loss, but lucky for me, some other craftster probably would think to do all that.  I'm just so looking forward to this!

I joined too!  ;D I put I can make sewing kits (a-line skirts, bags, cozies, pillowcase covers...), altoid tin kits, marble magnets, chandelier earring kits and wrist cuffs (they will be more intricate ones unless you prefer simple). I want to learn felting (needle or wet), embroidery, knitting, book binding.

THis is so fun, I can't wait to get partners.

I would love to learn soap or candle making, maybe even jewelry making.

look forward to thinking about how to make the kit, over the holidays

I am so into this swap, and I have been following it for a while (cheating and getting all your ideas before I say.. ha.)
Anyway, I brainstormed for a long time and came up with a pretty large list of things I can make/kits....

The general kits I can make: Lip Gloss;  Packing Tape & Paper/Comic Book wallets;  Stencilling or Cheap version Screen Printing;  Record Bowls;  Hemp Stuff;  Felt Flowers with Interesting centres (I think I make Kanzashi flowers.. this will be researched shortly..);  Teacup candles;  Marble Pushpins (like the magnets.. but on pins..);  Rice Pillows; Covered Journals (not making the books themselves... but decorating/decoupaging them)

And I thought of at least one specific... I'm really thrift store/other place findy, and I would love to give a bunch of stuff that I've collected but can't make into something myself (or already HAVE made something with, with another of the same thing), with suggestions! (Eg. I have some [unused!] little boys Batman underwear that would be uber-cool as a purse/clutch; a Chuck Norris colouring book that would love to be something better... )

And there's plenty of fantastic things to make from you guys so far!
Some specifics I'd like to learn are:  Embroidery (tops on my list right now);  Book binding/making; Bag Making - Jordy/Hobo bag/Other cool bag (but as of now, I only hand sew);  those Paper goods from Japan, sushi (mm)... and yeah.. so much other good stuff

Phew. Sorry for the super long post.. I'm all pumped! (I would definitely be interested in making more than one package, and receiving more than one package, if there's enough interest in my goodies!)

(Sewn stuff in general I need much more practice - I'm sure I would come up with something interesting for you to make a pattern for ;) ,charm bracelets are so fun!, and earrings are extremely exciting too - I jsut made my very first pair last week!)

Everyone's been doing it just as a FYI for other swappers.

List was just updated. Also a few people have asked to sign up and needed either a few more posts or positive feedback from their first swap, if this is you and you're still interested let me know when you get these things if you're still interested.

Happy Holidays

I'd like to learn how to frost glass, and also how to use/make shrinky dinks. and i didn't put this but i'm really interested in making the pyramid coin purse!  ;D

toodles!

Oh dear, my little list posted weeks ago seems so inadequate now  :-\! Let me embellish:
Kits I can make:
-knitting (anything from basic "how-to-knit" to more advanced kits for lace, cables, etc. Or specific projects..i.e. I could make a kit for a really cute/nerdy mobius stole (http://crochety.blogspot.com/2005/01/mobius-stole-done.html (http://crochety.blogspot.com/2005/01/mobius-stole-done.html))
-crochet (again, anything from basic to advanced, I could make kits for a sushi TP-roll cover, those flower earrings, turtles, etc.)
-jewelry making (I mostly do weird/funky earrings and multi-stranded necklaces, but I have lots of fun findings and beads!)
-origami
-polymer clay (I've been making a lot of miniatures with it, but I must warn you, I'm no expert! I could put together a kit for making stitch markers out of them, or mini sushi, etc..)

Things I'd like to learn (actually, I'd basically like to learn anything I don't already do...I need to expand my crafting horizons!)
-lip gloss making (or soap, or candles...)
-tatting
-etching glass
-stenciling

Oh! and about the shrinky dinks--I've only made them out of pre-made sheets, I could definitely put together a kit of those, but I don't know any more advanced techniques :)

I just signed up--I'm really excited about this swap!

I'm hoping someone will be interested in my number one choice of kits I'd like to make, because I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since it crossed my mind. Hopefully, some knitter out there wants to learn to knit lace and use charted designs. :)

The other things I listed are "learn to cable," "make (knitted) felted potholders and/or hot pads (and possibly an oven mitt)," and I could also do a basic "learn to..." kit for knitting, crochet, cross stitch, or quilting.

Someone mentioned silk painting in a previous post, which is a craft I've been intrigued by for probably a year now. I haven't gotten into it yet mostly because of the daunting task of initial supply purchases. I'm also interested in making a unique purse (something unusual, not knitting, crochet, or a traditional sewn purse), making paper, mosaic...and probably a bunch of other things that haven't crossed my mind yet. :D

I signed up!  ;D My boyfriend gave in after I begged and pleaded with him... Unfortunately I don't have much to offer... I feel like I can DO a lot, but when I tried to write it down on paper I drew a blank. So this is what I listed:

List AT LEAST two kits you would like to make:
     1. Make a Jordy
     2. Beaded jewelry
     3. Funky Decoupaged Picture Frames
What craft would you like to learn:
     1. Needle and/or wet Felting
     2. Tatting
     3. Crochet
     4. Knitting

I realized I listed what I could make, but not what I wanted to make! So here we go:

List AT LEAST two kits you would like to make:
1. Knitting
2. Record album books
3. Simple quilting (I mean REALLY simple, folks. I'm self-taught.)
4. Record bowls
5. Pins from old earrings (the last two are more like mini-craft kits I'd be happy to send along with one of the bigger ones)

What craft would you like to learn(not a guarantee just for a general reference at this time):
1. Needle felting
2. Jewellery making/beading
3. Altered book making

Im so exited too  ;D!!!....we are close....I really want to learn to stencil...thats maybe the few things I never tried....but then I started knitting..and I would love to learn how to do cables....then I have always wanted to learn tatting...and decoupage....hhaha...okay okay Ill stop...I'm just excited!

Someone mentioned silk painting in a previous post, which is a craft I've been intrigued by for probably a year now. I haven't gotten into it yet mostly because of the daunting task of initial supply purchases.

About silk painting....I was scared that it would cost alittle too much too...but if your just starting...you can buy the 'smaller' stuff.....small dye...a couple silk scarves... small resist...I spent quiet a bit cash just because I have always wanted to do it..and when I learned....I was planning on  making 'clothing' with it too..and some accessories[still working on it...I was just waiting for the holidays to be over]...but I would love to share the fun...and share the beautiful things that you can do.

Yes it's quite hard to partner people up!!

To give you guys and update so you don't start a bounty for my head, lol, I ended up having to form groups instead of individual partners. I've had to work all weekend that's another thing that has taken me so long, not to mention I think I've done about 4 different versions until I got it right. I've tried to honor the few request I've gotten for particular partners but with it being groups odvisiouly I couldn't do them exactly.

I just PMed the few people who needed to pick out their craft to learn so when I hear back from them you all should know who you're sending to.

Thanks for being so prompt, though, lady4feet. When I did partners for the little visitor swap, it took me the better part of a week.

Im really confused by the group thing. do you think you could explain dear organizer maam. do we sign up for a group which we'd like to recieve, or be in, because im very lost. also if you could add needle felting, i think that was a big one, and there were a few of us who wanted to learn to spin... sigh. i really am getting pathetic in finding someone to teach me to spin. ANYWAY. back to the point, i really really dont understand the "group" thing.

I didnt understand the group thing either. When I pm'd her my response I didnt pick a "group" but just told her a couple things I would like to do out of all the groups. I dont know if that was the correct thing to do but I was only interested in two of the kit suggestions.  :-\

i think since so many people picked the same thing..its going to be hard to choose 'which one gets it'....especially if alot of people ONLY choose 2 things

i dont want to confuse anyone...but i think she means like:

example:
maybe a group of 3 ppl:kelly, ashly, laura
kelly sends to ashly
ashly sends to laura
laura sends to kelly

if this is not what you meant..then i have no idea...haha..but im pretty sure is somewhat like this..

Sorry I realised after I wrote you guys the PM and said in the forum that there were groups that it might sound confussing. For the PM I should've said individuals, these were people who I haven't placed yet into a group and was hoping you guys would be interested in them cause like handlethis said so many people chose the same thing. There were lots of request for felting, spinning, mosiacs and bookbinding but we either had one or two people who could do those things or none at all. Some things were mentioned earlier in the thread but unfortunitly a few people have had to backout.

So hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning you all will have your groups. And yes it's a group like

maybe a group of 3 ppl:kelly, ashly, laura
kelly sends to ashly
ashly sends to laura
laura sends to kelly

Only much bigger, as it stands now there are only going to be three or four groups.

I understand the group thing, as far as sending, what i dont get is how to pick the group i want to be in. so i pick a group where id like to learn any of the things mentioned, or i could teach any of the things mentioned. or what if theres things in a group that i like, but others that i REALLY have no desire to do? apperently everyone else gets it and my just slow so please humor me here.

Hello guys for this swap I ended up having to do groups so if you guys could look at the list below and pick out a few you would like to do and put them in order of preference. Also please try to get as many groups as possible.

Group 1
felt flower broach kit
cha cha bracelet kit

Group 2
How to write beautiful poetry
How to write stories
How you style your own hair like a pro(for every hair texture and type)
Cooking: Healthy Vegan cooking that doesn't skimp on taste
Cooking(kind of): How to make tasty and satisfying raw meals, much more then just salads.

Group 3
Crochet
Sewing
stenciling kit
hemp bracelets, necklaces, keychains

Group 4
kitting
embroidery

I hope there's something that you guys would like to do, also I have to play around with the groups somemore so if there is something else you would like to learn that's not on the list please include it.

Thanks

Brandi

Ok I'll see if I can clear this up for you. The PM you got was sent to you and a few other people who hadn't been placed into a group yet. You guys hadn't been placed into a group yet because based on your original PMs I couldn't get you your guys original choices. The things listed in the PM are things that other people can make that also have not been placed into a group that I was hoping you guys would be interested in. I also asked for you to include other things not listed because due to a last minute backout I had to play with the other group. I used the word group in the PM by mistake, they're really just individual people.

A tad bit OCD... shows in the *oddest* places.  ::)

LOL my OCD shows up at work. They all think my apartment must be immaculate when really it's a large mess   ;)

Ahh... but OCD is so FUN! (when it's not being largely annoying... ;D)

Have you ever read Devil in the Details? It makes me look complacent.

So, those of us at the beginning are receiving from those who are at the end?

I want to be sure of that, because if that's the case I need to get with the person sending to me and make sure she knows I have no sewing machine right now.  I'm not opposed to hand sewing, and I'm not opposed to a sewing project, but it has to be something I COULD do by hand.

I have you Lothruin. I will be sure to center the kit around not having a machine. :) I'dd add machine instructions too so you have them if you ever get a machine or access to one.

Oh my lady4feet HUGE kudos for getting this all straigtened out!

lol yup  ;D my slow vet finally called me back so I had to rush around and pick up my meds and my ferrets meds before everything closed.

Everyone should have theirs now. Also if I went through my inbox and just sent the original PM's so if your partner has something listed that does not coincide with your skills it's most likely because I didn't modify that PM. I modified the ones I have on my computer instead.

I am in the process of planning, so I guess that's at least step one!  :D I just have to get to the store and buy the supplies (some I think I have extras of too, which is super sweet) and then it'll only take a day to do :)

Yeah it's hard to imagine people are done! I've done all the planning I just need to put it all together in a more readable, more professional form, buy the extra 'stuff' I'm putting in the package, and make a couple things. The only thing that's gonna take any time will be getting down to kinko's everything else is a piece of cake. It is really fun doing this kit!

So I was missing a few key items for my package. They weren't at any of the craft stores by my house. Right down the street from my work is one of those huge jo-anne etc, or whatever they are called. I went there this afternoon. I needed stuff that should have only cost me about $10-$15. So how on earth did I spend $80?!?!?!?! OK granted I veered from my list of necessary items for this swap, but still. How do I always do this? I have a problem.

Those 40% off coupons Michael's/ A.C. Moore sends out weekly have got to be the most effective revenue-generator ever. Every week I go meaning just to get one item for 40% off and I'll be damned if I don't pick up at least another $30 worth of stuff every time!

I'm not done yet either. I have supplies (bought the rest over the weekend), made the example, but still need to type up the instructions and put all of that together. My goal is to be ready by Friday.

determinedimprovisation: if there are things you can't find, I live in a pretty big town so a list of things I should get (maybe with a picture of what they look like) would be a-ok with me. 'dissecting tools'...ok now I am curious. DH is a funeral director so maybe I can steal some of his tools.  ;D

sewpixie--ah, that's good to hear!  i'll include what i can, and make a "other handy tools" list for you.  i use dissecting tools instead of the commerical clay tools because they make finer details and frozen clay is no match for this nifty spatula thing i have.

I was thinking like an anatomy kit... or something?

Geesh, way to make me feel bad, guys!  ;)

I have the perfect tin, and I've spent literally 2 weeks combing hardware stores because the one simple item that I used on my last tin purse, which was so perfect and polished-looking, is no longer available at Menards, so I've had to figure something else out.  And I finally did.  FINALLY.  On my...*counting under her breath*...  7th hardware store.  BUT, now that it's done, no worries.  This puppy will be awesome, and that was the hard part.  So I'm scott free now, time wise.  :D

Will probible wait till Sun or Mon to send. . .I've got the DYI Bookbinging Kits ready but figured since I'm cleaning my office out this week I'd include as much paper goodness as I can instead of stuffing the rest of the box with tissue paper  ;)

DH has been hounding me "why don't you through some of that craft stuff away. . .its jsut junk?"  ::) Silly man!!  Figured I'd make him happy and pass some on, knowing it is going to Craftsters make it easy to share   :D

Thank God for flat rate boxes!!  These babies are almost 6 pounds and I'm not done packing them yet  :o

Phew, I don't know about the rest of you, but I've found it difficult to break down my craft into it's simplest units to make an introductory kit.
I've just finished the instruction booklet and I think it's fairly clear.
Lots of photographs, theory behind the craft, and a few different techniques.
Oh but I hope it's clear to a new felter.  :-\   Am I the only one with these fears?

I've finished and will be sending tomorrow
