Title: Slit Throat Choker - with pattern
Post by: arrmatie on October 26, 2005 10:27:26 AM
I made this for the Blood 'n' Guts, Horror 'n' Gore swap.  It's not terribly complicated, but I'm kinda proud of myself for coming up with the idea.

Slit throat Choker

Worsted weight red wool lopi, F-Hook

Button loops:  Ch 15, turn, sc in 6th ch from hook, *chain 2, skip 2 ch, sc, repeat from * twice more.  -button Loops complete-
Turn work 90 degrees.  The remaining rows are perpendicular, with each blood drip being two rows.
Ch1, sc in bar of previous sc, sc again in last ch of foundation chain.  These now count as 3 sc.
ch8, turn,
*sl in each ch, sc in each sc, ch1, turn,
sc in each sc, ch4, turn,
sl in each ch, sc in each sc, ch1, turn,
sc in each sc, ch6, turn,
sl in each ch, sc in each sc, ch1, turn,
sc in each sc, ch8, turn,
sl in each ch, sc in each sc, ch1, turn,
sc in each sc, ch4, turn,
sl in each ch, sc in each sc, ch1, turn,
sc in each sc, ch8, turn,
repeat from * until choker is desired length.  Cut yarn, attach button and weave in ends.

Since some people are having problems with this pattern, I also made a chart.

That's awesome!  If I weren't already being the Tooth Fairy for Halloween, I'd figure out a way to work this into a costume.

Man, this totally rules as well!  As if your knitted digestive system wasn't good enough already!  I can't wait to see what you do next.

I love this! I want to make it. Has anyone else made one? I'm kind of a novice crocheter, and I'm have a hard time understanding the pattern. Anyone out there that could give me a hand?

What exactly don't you understand?  I'll admit, I don't have much practice writing patterns for other people to interpret.  Let me know and it might help us both!

ch = chain
sl = slip stitch
sc = single crochet

That's kinda obvious to me, but I realize it might not be so to everyone else.  :-[

This is HILARIOUS!!!  Great job!  I think I'll have to make one of these for Monday to wear at work...  I wonder how many people will *get* what it is supposed to be!!  Thanks for the pattern.

I understood the abbreviations but while I was trying I got confused after like the first line. When you say " sc in bar of previous sc" What is the bar? Then you "ch8, sl in each ch, BUT then sc in each sc do you mean sc into each sl st?,then ch1 turn, sc in each sc,

I'm sure this makes complete sense to everyone else. Sorry to be such a moron

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound patronizing.  Not knowing where I had gone wrong, the abbreviations were just the easiest thing to clarify.  :-[

The "bar" of a crochet stitch is the vertical chain part, not the V-shaped part in which you usually crochet on the next row, but the part that changes length between a single, double, triple etc. crochet.  The second line of instructions "Ch1, sc in bar of previous sc, sc again in last ch of foundation ch" turns the work 90 degrees, so while the button holes (the first line of the instructions) are worked across, the rest of the choker can be worked up and down.

Thanks for pointing this out!  I'll rewrite the pattern a little later.

Thats what I thought but not having really crocheted much & nothing more then a scarf or granny squares, I wasn't familiar with the term.

Don't feel too bad. I am also having a hard time with the pattern. I have been sitting here for what seems like 2 hours trying to make this cool project and can't for the life of me figure out the pattern and I have been crocheting since I was 7! LOL!

To the orignal poster.... Great project, but is there a chance that you could do a picture tutorial? I don't mean to sound snarky, but I really just don't understand your pattern at all.

I've changed the pattern adding "turn" commands and changing the formatting so hopefully it's a little more obvious where one row begins and ends.  Thanks for bearing with me!

Thank you. It does make me feel better to know I am not the only one.

Thanks for revamping the pattern arrmatie. Wish me luck!

And good luck to you Lydia the Strange!

I made mine in just a few hours after teaching myself to crochet. I actually taught myself just to make this for a friend.

Thanks for the awesome pattern Trewe! You rock!
