Here come the pictures!

Princessandthebead is awesome!  I came home to the most beautiful pair of beaded earrings!  The findings are silver, the center pieces is four swoops enclosed in a silver oval topped with internal curls.  The beads are a delightful mix of colors, shapes and materials.  There are citrine colored matte finish heart beads, pretty purple seed beads, topaz colored transparent beads, silver beads and stars and more beads I don't know the name of!  And they're mine! Mine, I tell you!  Thanks you, Princessandthebead!  Mwaaah!

The earrings are awesome!  Are you gloating, Fidget?!?  Well, I suppose you have every right to do that!   Nice work, princessandthebead!

Yup, she's a-gloating!  Still doing the Happy Dance over my earrings!  ;D

Ha!  You're just dancing to see the earrings jiggle about ;D  Say, are the earrings heavy to wear?  If they're too heavy, you could always send them my way ;)

Ah, no no - that ploy isn't going to work!  ::) The weight is perfect.  Not too heavy and light enough to swing freely.  ;D

Oh Fidget!  I am so glad that you like them.  I love the beads that I put into it.  They look awesome with your hair!

Thank you, Princess!!  You picked out such wonderful colors!  I love them.  I see problems in the future though -- my best friend is going to want to wear them, too!  ;)

Princess, I did tell her about you.  lol  She asked how close you were to the Texas Motor Speedway.  Other side of the state, says I.  But she already likes you cuz we all have REK in common.

Lv2ScrpBk, haven't heard about a Round II.

And, The Meow Wont Purr has recieved from me; here's the postcard (mini piece of art) I sent her:

It's a study of an Indian tiger, in Charcoal.

I love original art and nushybum, yours is great :)  I'm always envious of folks who can draw - I can't...and I've been told that by my art teacher (who's kinda mean!).

That's so mean! Art isn't just about drawing things! It's about creative self-expression! (I sound like a critic now.)

I thought that was sweet of you to say Nushy...you sounded more like an art teacher should sound.  I love your art.....but then again, I collect postcards.

Why wouldn't she?  It's fab! :)  I think it's great that you did a charcoal rendering.

Yeah, she was a mean person, but I figured she was a miserable person anyhow.  I don't draw, but I love to doodle ;)

Yes...of course.  Hairspray rocks.  Did you know that they're great for killing wasps too?  Do they still sell Billy Bear baloney at Tesco?!?

No about the wasps....I plan to carry round a small can in my handbag for use on dirty ole perverts, smelly harassing boys, &c.

Yep about the bear ham stuff. It's weird. *shudders*

You two are like the Grusome Twosome.

It's not actually bear HAM, i.e. smoked leg of furry but fierce and deadly bear...it's weird processed meat which has been moulded into strange bear-like faces....i'll try to find a grusome and inhumane picture...

Here we are...pretend the label says Tesco's instead of Safeways (which doesn't exhist anymore) http://www.6foot6.com/fr/agfaimages/Scotland/ScSkye_BillyBearSausage2.jpg

NushyBearBum (or is that Bare?), that has to be the most bizarre excuse for lunchmeat that I've ever seen.  I may be scarred for life.

If there's a Round Two, do Round One folks automatically get grandmothered in?   ???

Yeah!  That's exactly what I'm talking about.  On a trip to Hertfordshire, I was coaxed (by a 5 year old no less...) into eating a Billy Bear sandwich.  It's not too bad...tastes just like bologna.

Title: Re: One Tiny Thing Swap Gallery

Bologna ~spits again~  eeewwww

Dammit!  I had better be grandmothered in if there is a round 2!  Sheeze...I could still send more things for round 1!

And now for the unveiling of the precious wonderful tiny thing that I received from Fidget!

It is the most precious tiny frog pillow ever seen!  All that I need to go with it is a tiny little glass slipper!

This is just really amazing!  It looks totally professional! And I put the quarter beside it so that you could see just how tiny it is!

Title: Re: One Tiny Thing Swap Gallery

It's adorable!!!  I had no notion that it was that tiny.  Fidget did good, eh?  Love the colors and embroidery.  princessandthebead, you should definitely add a tiny glass slipper to the pillow - that'll be priceless!

I'm here!  I'm here!

Between midterm season, my husband coming home on leave after 8 months overseas and just having gotten over being sick, I have been totally out of it in the last several days.  My sincere apologies to everyone.

And ttchicka, I ADORE what you made me!  I literally squealed when I saw it.  It's EXACTLY the kind of thing I had always hoped to receive.  My husband likes it too.  Thank you so much for putting so much thought into it.  I'm going to mail yours out today, so be on the look out after 2-4 days.

Again, thank you ttchicka, thank you Writer for organizing, and I'm sorry I couldn't be more around.  Forgive me?   :-[ :)

oh, you guys, just WAIT until I have pics of what CraftyZary sent me!  She made me a wonderful mini journal, medieval-themed, with my name and coat of arms inside the front cover and my coat of arms also inside the back cover.  It's pale beige leather, about 3"x5", with a brown leather bookmark attached and a metal clasp to hold the cover shut.

I was very selfish, hogging CraftyZary as for swap partner!   ;D  And it's a good thing I was selfish - she took great care of me!!

Pics to come tomorrow AM, when I have access to the scanner at work.

sporkx71, I'm glad you got them all right, and I hope all is well with your family!

loves2experiment, the beads are amethyst Swarovski crystals.  It was the first time I ever crocheted with wire. The crocheted bit is about a half inch, so for earrings not so tiny, but for crochet--pretty small!

This gallery is soooo full of beautiful things, everyone's crafts are amazing!  :o it has been a great swap, one of my favorites so far  :)

And I got my envelope today! I don't find the right words to express how much I love it, it is simply wonderful!!!   Writer78 sent me the most awesome, beautiful, wonderful piece of art! The title is 'One Tiny Girl' and it is an acrylic on canvas painting of my daughter, approx. 4x5 inches and it is so perfectly made, I love it!  It will have a very special place here at home.
Here is a picture of the wonderful painting and below is a pic of my daugther so you can see how perfect Writer78 made it...

Eva, thanks again! you should sooo change your name from Writer78 to Writer/Artist78, that would show the whole art inside you  :D you rock!

**big hugs** to CraftyZary and to you guys for the wonderful comments!  I'm so glad the painting was a success.  It's always a bit nerve-wracking, since art's only job is to look good, so if I failed at that, there isn't really a use for it.  So a success is always a big relief!

I will scan Zary's stuff (not that she sent me more than one thing... *grin*) here at work today and show you.  I'm a LUCKY GIRL!

Here we go!  This is the lovely little 3x5 mini journal that CraftyZary made for me:

Inside the front cover, she printed in my coat of arms and added my name and the word "journal" in gothic script:

Inside the back cover, my coat of arms is printed again, and you can also see the leather bookmark that's attached to the spine:

Zary wanted me to point out to everyone that she DID follow the rules and sent One Thiny Thing to swap with me.  I need to point this out because also in the envelope was this awesome leather-and-wood necklace for my peasant costume:

She was very clear that the necklace was a "thanks for organizing" gift, and it was therefore not a swap item, and she therefore followed the rules.   ;D  Hey, I'm not one to argue!!  As princess pointed out earlier, "Writer won't send it back!"  Nope - this little writer is keeping her cool costume necklace!

THANK YOU, CraftyZary, for the lovely e-mails and the awesome crafts!

*passed loves2 the oxygen mask* Me, too!

Writer78, that tiny portrait is delightful!  CraftyZary now has two treasures: a little girl that will grow up and a frozen moment in time, captured by a friend, where she'll always be the little laughing beauty.

And the earrings made by Sporkx71 are beautiful.  Love the color of the blue beads!

Wowsers!  Big round of applause for Flareon for the tatted ornament.  Before I started hanging out here, I didn't think anyone still tatted.  Good for you keeping the art alive.  Beautiful work.

That ornament is awesome!  Is tatting like crochet, or totally different? Beautiful work!

Title: Re: One Tiny Thing Swap Gallery
Post by: Flareon on October 23, 2005 06:08:00 PM
Thanks for all the compliments. :)

Aliciasjoy, tatting is actually more like macrame, because you are basically knotting a piece of thread repeatedly instead of looping it like you do with crochet or knitting.  But tatting is similar to crochet in the way they can look: lacey and delicate.

I make myself stay away from the net for a few days to get caught up with stuff and look what all I missed!!!  Fidget I never realized that you had actually embroidered my frog.  OMG....your work is awesome.  I guess that is why I missed it...it looks professionally done.  I will treasure it even more.  Writer I am, again, blown away by your talent.  Beautiful is all that I can say  ~applaudes~  All of the earrlings are beautiful...so many ways to use beads and wire!!  And I told ya'll that Flareon's  work would be wonderful.  I have a precious tatted bookmark that she made for me.

I loved this swap for so many different reasons.  I do hope that there is a round 2.

I've mailed a couple of packages to Australia recently and have discovered the wonder of Global Priority Mail from the US Postal Service.  $5 for a small (6"x10") light cardboard envelope, all you can stuff in up to 4 pounds, delivery in 4 - 6 days.  $9 for large (~11x12) envelope.  Not sure of weight restriction for the large one.  But they were true to their word on delivery time.  Well worth the money and they provide the envelope.

Not to much post office bashing girls...they finally delivered the wonderful stitch markers loves2 made for me. I kind of think she may have broken some of the swap rules but I don't think we should hold it against her - I'm not going to. I also have to start a new project to use them - perfect motivation.

One is a mini crochet hook through a mini ball of yarn.
The second bunch os silver wire and blue beads.
The third bunch is extra special. She made some mini-Rothko inspired paintings! They are so amazing! His works are some of my favorite ever and it makes me so happy just looking at these mini versions.

Warning:  This is a wordy post.

Goodgrief.  I missed out on these posts while I was out shopping this evening.  In case anyone cares, my shopping spree was fantabulous!

Thank you for the effort, Loves2!  The Post Awful is sometimes hard to take.  I like going late at night to the 24/7 one out by the airport; those are some laid back postal folks!  Whenever you get it mailed in the appropriate small size envelope is just peachy keen!  You are so very cool!!

The story gets better.  I got home this evening and was looking for something in my garage.  Didn't find what I needed, but I came across a huge bag of bubble wrap and cushioned mailers?!?  There's gotta be at least a dozen cushion mailers in the bag.  Goodgrief.  Well, I guess I'm off to the post office in the morning ;)

Not to much post office bashing girls...they finally delivered the wonderful stitch markers loves2 made for me. I kind of think she may have broken some of the swap rules but I don't think we should hold it against her - I'm not going to. I also have to start a new project to use them - perfect motivation.

Yay!  I'm gonna kiss the next postal worked I see!  I don't think I broke the swap rules *pout*  I did send one tiny thing...er, one tiny set of crochet stitch markers! ;)  I am chuffed that you like them.  The Rothko ones were fun to do, but I had to stop after the 6th one because I was gettin' a tad high on the varnish fumes, lol.  I left the crochet hook free in case you decided to use it :D  The beads and wire thing was just something I had fun with.

Starpiste, big round of applause for Canadian postal service for getting those fabulous stitch markers to you!  Those are gorgeous, Loves2Experiment!   :o  The tiny crochet hook is incredible.   And stitch markers or not, I want to wear the blue beaded ones as earrings!   ::)

Thanks for the compliments, Fidget :)  You seem to have a unhealthy obsession passion for earrings ;)

I definately think we can say you stayed within the rules becasue you made me one set of items. Also, I think I'd wear the rothko one as earrings. I was wondering how you made them because they're transluscent but the colours are still bright.

And here are pictures of my attempt. You also get a good idea of the tiny-ness:

It actually wasn't that hard. It's like doing really fine lacework. The hard part is that you hardly have anything to hold onto so my right hand got all cramped up. I won't be switching to this length but I kind of feel like I should do lacework with tiny guage hooks.

Title: Re: One Tiny Thing Swap Gallery
Post by: loves2experiment on October 28, 2005 09:13:12 PM
*gasp*  Holy crap!  You did it!  You rock :)  I had fun fabricating the crochet hook from a wooden tooth pick.  Obviously, I had to trim it down to size in order to match the size of the mini ball of yarn.  I guess you could make another one with a longer handle so that your hand won't cramp up ;)

As for the Rothko ones, I sanded the surfaces of clear sheets of shrinky dinks and I used coloured pencils to draw and colour the images.  They would be great as earrings since I used lever-back earring thingies to make the crochet stitch markers.  Don't be tellin' that to Writer78 though, or she'll reckon that I sent you TWO tiny things - crochet stitch markers AND earrings!  ::)

I bow to your crochet goddessness, Starpiste!  That is incredible (at least in my book).  Please IM your address to me and I'll send you two hooks I am incapable of using: US 7/1.5mm and US6/1.80mm (both are metal).  It seems a US 3/2.1mm is the smallest I have a prayer of using.

I don't have a camera, but Radioactive made me a very cool candle holder. She took an altoids tin and glued it shut and used clay to make a flower on top and the hole in the middle of the flower is where the skinny taper candle goes, which she sent with it. Very cute!

That little crochet hook - WOW.
I made something similar last winter.  It's a brooch, made from toothpicks, beads, single-ply yarn, and a safety pin - really low-tech.  I glued the stitches on the needle so they wouldn't slip off.

EDIT: Forgot to add - it was hard for me to knit with the toothpicks because they weren't smooth, so instead I used the smallest needles I had, then slipped the stitches from the needles to the toothpick.  Much, much quicker that way!

i've loved admiring everybody's tiny little pretty things...i've been lurking in this thread for a while. i've wanted to do a swap for ages, but have put it off because i am as flaky as a croissant. but perhaps i could handle one tiny thing...

one other thing i have to mention: what is this i hear about playdoh scented oil? where can i find such a thing? i ask because *blush* thisreallycuteboyihaveabigolecrushon made a remark the other day that they should have playdoh scented perfume, and if he ever came across a girl that smelled like playdoh he'd never let her go. this boy can knit and sew and do cross-stitch...he's an absolute catch if i've ever seen one.

and EEEE, that little knitted brooch is so cute! *steals*

ax174, your little knitting project brooch is so cute!  Even if you didn't actually knit on the toothpicks (which I believe you could have done had they been smooth enough), I'm in awe of the fact you had real needles tiny enough to make the project and can successfully use them.  Craftsters are so amazing!

starpiste, it's really naughty of you to tell me the item is red...it just makes me more curious (and impatient)!  I would have hounded you for more hints if I didn't find an envelope with a Canadian stamp in my mailbox this evening!  Hell yeah!  Your tiny treasure is perfect!  A tiny notebook...done in vivid red and black.  I love that you added inspirational quotes on some of the pages ;)  The envelope style closure is definitely a good feature to have (I'd know that because my current notebook is in a pitiful state).  I'll definitely put the tiny notebook to use...actually, I've already put it in my purse!

EDIT:

I'm such a dork  ::)  I was so focused on getting the message posted that I forgot to include the picture.  Bah.  Here's the tiny treasure I received from starpiste!

ax174, I love the tiny knitting needles!  I think it's great that you managed to knit a swatch (I know, I know...you used regular needles) and hook it up to your tiny knitting needles.  I've gotta try that sometime :)

abandonedcouch, I purchased the play-doh fragrance oil blend online several years ago.  Under proper storage, it has held up remarkably well.  It's not really meant for direct application on skin (Fidget and princessandthebead...are you reading this disclaimer?!?) but for use in blending personal care products.

Starpiste, the little journal is beautiful!  Do you have any pictures of it opened?  Or next to anything for size comparison?

I promise I'll resist the urge to slather the fragrance oil all over my ample bosom.  Well, at least until I can get it mixed in with some unscented lotion.  Then, all bets are off!

I don't have any open pictures but it's 2.5 x 5.5 inches if I'm remembering right. Loves2 can correct that if I'm wrong.

whoops! I am way behind on posting my swap swag, and will remain behind until tomorrow when I have time to get pictures loaded.
Quote
I don't have a camera, but Radioactive made me a very cool candle holder. She took an altoids tin and glued it shut and used clay to make a flower on top and the hole in the middle of the flower is where the skinny taper candle goes, which she sent with it. Very cute!
Actually it is not glued shut, the inside is for matches or perhaps super tiny cookies!

Yes pictures of both what I sent and what I received tomorrow.

Nushybum, cheer up...I'm sure your tiny treasure is on its way to you.  Just think...it would have taken just as long for it to reach Malaysia or Singapore ;)

Not that it'll make you feel better, but it took 2 weeks for starpiste to get my stuff (and it was only going to Canada from the States!)

Nushybum's surprise got kicked back to Meow in the mail.  Meow has re-sent, so hopefully it arrives soon.  Then, this one will be officially complete.

I would like to participate in a part 2.  Do we have anyone interested in organizing it?

I'd consider it if no one else really wants to.
I know we're not starting many swaps right now cause of the holidays and I was going to do a tree one that will probably be pretty big, but I think people want to wait for a while on that one- so I could go ahead with this one now cause it's so small- the crafting I mean.

This one did seem to go pretty fast.  If not for the mail problem that Meow experienced, we'd have finished by 10/31, I think.  So the whole thing took less than 30 days, from signups to completion.  Part of that was because I limited signups; I don't if you would want to do that.  Perhaps a short signup period would help keep things moving along.

If you run it, will you match me with DevilDoll?  She and I have talked about swapping, but since she's never swapped before, she wants to do so through an official swap so that she can earn feedback.  I told her I had just finished running one, but we could ask an organizer to match us in a new swap.

Tiny candle holder set from cortag04, thanks! Sorry about the crappy picture, my camera decided to take that time to start dying.

And here is what I sent to her:

side view

bottom

top

and with a candle

Explanation: The flower is supposed to be a Gerber daisy, which is her favorite flower ( but I'm not that great with clay so it is a little wonky,) maroon is her favorite color, and fresh cut grass is her favorite scent.

Radioactivecrafter, that's a fantastic use for an altoid tin :)  What sort of clay did you use to make the flower - air dry, polymer, regular?  Oh, and the candle holders that was sent by cortag04, what sort of material is it?  Glass, polymer clay, plastic?  Sorry for the questions, but I couldn't tell from the picture  :-[

Title: Re: One Tiny Thing Swap Gallery
Post by: Radioactivecrafter on November 06, 2005 05:54:23 PM
Why thank you  ;D
For the flower I used polymer clay, Fimo specifically.
Cortag's were made from plastic thingies that I think might have been lids to something in their former life, and they are coverred in torn bits of colorful paper.

The candle holders I made are tiny tupperwear like containers, the base part, and I decoupaged with different textures and colors from magazines.

I love my candle holder I got, I didn't pick up on the fact that is was my favorite color, flower, and scent. That makes it so much cooler. Thanks!

Hey, guess what?
I GOT A BOOK SLUG!
A BOOK SLUG!
YEAH!

Here's him (it's definately a Him) being a slug:

It as often thought good practise for Book Slugs to imitate bookmarks. (Book Slug is very religious, here he is in my His Holiness the Dalai Lama book, which he slurmed straight into):

And this is him next to his little pal,

And FINALLY, now you can see the amazing tatting which The Meow Wont Purr carried out!

Thank you so much, Carmela! I love Book Slug so much! I have to go round all my books and fish out the dirty reciepts and old bus tickets now  ::)

Thanks again! yay!

Hmmmmm no, I haven't named him yet. He'll probably just be called Book Slug. (Did i mention QUITE how appriate he is? My email used to be bookbug....until it got too full of spam, now it's nushbush)

I suppose I'm not fabulous at naming things...I.e. I have toys/mascots called Froggie, Crabby, Sock Monkey &c. But then I have characters in stories called weird and wonderful things like Yrenne and Ciara and stuff like that.

I'm so glad he finally arrived, Nushy! He looks very happy in his new home. :)

I highly recommend trying it out, loves2experiment. I wanted to learn after I saw flareon's stuff a few swaps back (I think it was the bookmark swap 2). It's pretty easy to pick up and is much easier to work on in odd places (bus, car, between classes, library). I learned to make Nushy's tiny thing and I'm so glad I did! I love it!

Well, there are (camera's not working, dunno why) some papier mache boxes in the shape of a book (I love books! Yeah!), a flipflop and a plain oval one, and some wooden dollhouse boxes, a box-shaped one (haha) and a house-shaped one. Basically, if you look at amaryllisrose's shines (sorry, the search function isn't working, I've been waiting ages.), the box is the same shape of her "Inspire" and the cupboard is like her "Day of the Dead" one. (Maybe also her Frida Kahlo one, but I can't remember). You know, before they were shrines.

I shall make some kind of flipflop shrine for my mum for Christmas with the flipflop box. Because that's all she lives in. Even though she hates the fact often when people wear flipflops, they don't pick up thrir feet. SoI shall call the shrine "Shuffle". I'm not sure about the rest of the stuff.

(I gotta admit, I'm just a tiny bit more excited about the Peppermint Patties and the Peanut Butter Cups!!!

I never thought it as a singaporean thing, but I think nushy means people who drag their feet when they walk so it's like they're sliding rather than walking and it makes a bunch of noise . It drives me crazy too.

I guess I was kinda confused because I was under the impression that nushybum was from the UK (okay, it could have been the Nyquil too...).  When I read that bit of her statement, to me, it was analogous to an American making a sweeping statement that the (fill in a nationality of choice) has the habit of (again, fill in the blank).  I'm guessing that remisica is from Singapore and hence her response was whoa?!?

Yes, that's right. I used to live in Singapore, and everybody there wears flipflops. And generally when you go there, people shuffle along without picking up their feet, so you fall over.

I'm sorry to have made a sweeping statement; you're right, it was rude and I shouldn't have. So I can only apologise for my impolite words. I'm sorry.

Nushy, I've returned home from the Southenmost Point of the US of A.  Glad to hear you got all your goodies safe and sound.  A little bird told me you'd love the candies and it sounds like you did.  I made a flip-flop box for one of my nieces and it turned out very cute (I'll try to get a picture of it next time I visit her) - be sure to post a picture of what you make with yours.

I'm Chinese but raised in Canada since I was 9 months old.  When I first met my husband, he asked me why I never picked up my feet when I wore flip-flops.  Funny, until then I hadn't realized that I shuffled when wearing flip-flops.  Flustered, my only response was that my parents walked like - that's how you're supposed to walk in flip-flops.  After that, I started picking up my feet, but I noticed that people of Asian descent all tend to shuffle when wearing flip-flops (or for seniors, slide-on house slippers).  I told my little sister in the UK about it, and her response was the same as mine - it was like a light went on in her head.  :)
