Title: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: superhooker on January 14, 2009 02:32:19 PM
Hey guys!!  I was wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in a challenge on the miscellaneous board....

I was brainstorming for some ideas, and here are a few to consider:
pincushions
altered altoid tins
masks
shrines

Respond here if you would be interested in a challenge, or if you have ideas or votes for any themes!
Thanks guys!!!

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: pinokeeo on January 26, 2009 09:44:15 PM
Are you still looking for ideas, or have you already decided to do altoid tins?

Miscellaneous ideas could include recycling, woodcrafting, gourd art, leatherwork, or anything else that doesn't have its own board.

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: Velvet Rose on January 27, 2009 06:29:17 PM
I like the idea of a "buy nothing" challenge where you have to use what you already have. This encompasses both recycling and stash busting.

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: pinokeeo on January 27, 2009 06:34:22 PM
Stash busting would be a fun challenge.

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: craftydame on January 29, 2009 08:27:58 PM
i like shrines! we could do a "tin shrine" rather than an altoid tin, and that would let people who don't have altoids participate! and maybe i'll finally get motivated to make those cat food tin shrines i've been planning!  ;D

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: yossarian on February 01, 2009 12:32:01 AM
I think a shrine challenge would be fun! I really admire the ones I have seen on here, and a challenge would be just the push I need to do one. Even though the chance of it sucking is pretty high!!!
I don't think I'd want to do a tin one, but will keep my eye on this thread to see what you decide what to do!

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: pinokeeo on February 01, 2009 08:12:53 AM
The shrine would be an awesome idea.  If you set it up so that the entries could be made out of whatever a person decided to use, instead of a tin.  I saw some great shrines in the paper challenge where they used an oatmeal box and a phone book.

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: Destined To Fail on February 02, 2009 08:40:59 AM
Sounds like it could be a lot of fun!!! :) :) Shrines are cool if any medium was allowed, but masks would be great! Either way we'd probably be up for the challenge!

Title: Re: Anybody interested in a Miscellaneous Challenge?
Post by: superhooker on February 04, 2009 06:57:35 AM
Ok, so how about we do a "Shrine" challenge, and then people can make whatever sort of shrine they want...and people who love to alter tins can make a shrine from a tin...and everyone else could do something else?  Does that sound like a winner?

I'll start getting the challenge set up!  Thanks for the great input guys!

(And I'll be putting the "buy nothing" idea on the list for the next challenge...although, you could probably stashbust for the shrine challenge too!)

Hello. My name is Almahill and I would like to know what is a miscellaneous Challange. I love making stuff and I think the pincushions is one that I can do. Exactly what type of medium and do we post a picture of it or send it into you. Can it be from a pattern or one you have created yourself. It sounds like it will be fun. Please let me know. Thanks alot.  :-\

Ok...so my summer was crazy and ran away with me!  I'm thinking that I would like to get the new challenge started on October 15th...how does that sound for everyone?

I'm thinking that we should do "altered tins".  I know that Altoid tins are hard to find in some places, so maybe we could just say "a small tin".  Is that accessable for most people?  People who love altoid tins can stick with those, but non-US people can still participate by using some other small tin.

What does everybody think?

well shucks. Either I lost the trail to the shrine challenge, or it fizzled? I guess I'll do a bit more searching to see if it ever materialized.

Now, put the mouse down and go make something. ;)

So it looks like there's interest in an altered altoid tin challenge and a pincushion challenge, is that right?

Title: Upcoming Winter Holiday Decor Challenge!!
Post by: SevsOnlyGirl on September 09, 2010 01:22:55 PM
Is anyone interested in doing a Winter Holiday Decor challenge?

You could include all kinds of items:  wreaths, ornaments, garlands, tree toppers, wallhangings, outdoor decor, stockings, door pulls, pillows, blankets, picture frames, nativity sets, gingerbread houses, dreidels, menorahs - if you use it to decorate during your winter holiday, we want to see it!

What do you all think?

I like it!

And it might even get me off my lazy bum and start making decorations!  We didn't put anything up last year and it was rather depressing; have to fix that!

I LOVE to decorate for the holidays!  I decorate at work too, but ofcourse it has to be very generic winter themed - snowflakes is what I go with!

So do I!  I come by it naturally, my mom starts decorating her house every year on Nov 1st (though, I have seen some things go up sooner than that).  She says it's because she has so many things to put up that if she doesn't start early she won't get to see them all!

I haven't ever done a lot of decorating at my own place because I've always spend several days spanning Christmas at my parents' house, but now that I'm engaged, and living in a real apartment (not that basement hole I used to...) I'm really looking forward to it!

And decorating at work... what a great idea!  I'm going to have to do some thinking about this!

Great!  I'm thinking we would start the crafting on October 1st and then have all projects due Nov. 1 - 8th and then voting Nov. 8 - 15th.

I do have several etsy shops that have volunteered prizes!

I think this has the potential for a lot of amazing projects!

I have a project that is perfect for this that I need to work on next month, anyway.  (I tried it last year and it bombed, so I've had to rethink the how-to-create-it aspect and need to try again.)
