I live in Edmonton now, but I grew up in Moncton so I thought I'd reply to your post  :) Going back for vacation on Saturday actually, and will be there for 3 weeks so maybe I can be a NB refugee?  :P

I'm in Fredericton but lived in Edmonton for a summer. Didn't like it much, I'm afraid. The weather was shite, and it seemed like for every nice person I met, some coked-out idiot tried to run my bike off the road with their 1/2 tonne. But all the nice people I met were very very cool, as if trying to compensate for everyone else. There just didn't seem to be any inbetween.
I'm sure you fit into the "compensating for everyone else" category. I hope you enjoy your vacation!

Post by: CosmicCarrot on September 06, 2005 01:22:52 PM
well now we know there are at least 2 who actually live here...bathurst is cool. i once knew someone from bathurst. i live in a teeny town kinda between st john and moncton that even another new brunswicker probably never even heard of. that's because we have more cows than people.

CosmicCarrot, are you from Sussex? :p

I'm from Saint John! Nice to see other NB crafters here! We all need to get together or something. ave monthly meetings. Combine our talents and make a mail-order catalogue or something.

Title: Re: yayyy for the newbrunswickers...??

Oh yes, it was the cows. :p I know a few people who moved from Sussex to Saint John, too, so I hear some stories about living there.

Wow. We're, like, an hour's drive away from each other!

I'm from Saint John.  I was thinking Norton when you said small town with cows, Sussex is the big city compared to that. ;D
AHHH!!! SUSSEX!!! how did you know?? was it because i mentioned cows?? i bet it was the cows...

That would so rock, as we have a nasty lack of craft fairs in the last few years.

Title: Re: yayyy for the newbrunswickers...??
Post by: CosmicCarrot on September 22, 2005 02:06:10 PM
yes, norton!! we do seem pretty big compared to them. and i suppose it's not even us in sussex that have the cows...it's more penobsquis and all our cool places like that. but i live in THE TOWN of sussex. now, we're talking population 5000. country hick, i think not. hehe...us town folk are pretty big city. we've graduated from driving tractors to driving trucks. ooohhh, impressive.
and even to futher our not-country-hickness we're getting a wal-mart in sussex, which is not great in the way of killing all small businesses and being our downfall, but at least i won't have to drive for an hour to get craft supplies.

You're from Saint John? Cool! I was really beginning to think that my friends and I were the only ones in this city that really crafted!

We're having a get-together next Tuesday, at the Feel Good store uptown, around 3:30 PM. You're more than welcome to come along, if you like.

Anyone else from Saint John is good to come too!

I'm in Dorchester!

If any of you ever happen to be in Sackville on a Saturday morning, come to the Bridge St. Cafe for a visit and check out all my groovy stuff - knitting, sewing, beadwork, painting - sometimes all four skills on one item  ;)

I'm in Moncton! :)  You think for such a big, crafty city, I wouldn't have been the first to post.

Crystalheart, you're just down the road. :)  I would have dropped by to your show if I had known about it before today. Let me know when you have another.

Title: Re: yayyy for the newbrunswickers...??
Post by: bubblecup on January 18, 2006 06:33:44 AM
Hey Astria!  Thanks for the complement on my eggs.  They are what I focus on most.  They're super fun to do.

I won't be at the market this weekend unfortunately.  I have a full time job at HomeSense, so that interferes with my market time.  If I could quit my job there, I' d have a booth at the market.

Which market are you going to?  I'm not sure the last tiem you were here, but this summer there were soem changes in the markets.  The one that was uptown is now on John Street, by Victoria Park (if you know Moncton well enough to know where I'm talking about).  There's still the one downtown.  There's also a new one in Dieppe too.  I like it the best.  They took this building that used to be a supermarket and rebuilt it into a building especially for the market.  Very nice place. It's my favorite of the 3 markets.  If you start early enough though, you'd have plenty of time to visit all 3.

Title: Re: yayyy for the newbrunswickers...??
Post by: Astria on January 18, 2006 06:41:53 AM
I haven't been to the Dieppe market yet, but my lil' sis loves it. I didn't know there was a market on John Street, though! Well, well, well, I think it's going to be a big day. :) (btw, my sister is a HomeSense junkie. Every time I talk to her she's just coming back from there - she's not crafty, she's a shopper!).

Everyone in the Saint John area should come to Elwood's tonight.  There are 3 bands playing, the Caroussels, Edge on Spiral and Penney Blacks.  It's a free show, no cover and I'm playing cello in Penney Blacks.  If you don't know where Elwood's is, it's at 112 Prince William St.

Hi Any caftsters in the Fredericton area can come out and see my band play at teh Capital on Friday night.  There may be a full band show in Saint john on Saturday night, but the singer may be doing a solo show that night, it will be at Elwoods.  I'd love to see some craftsters out at the show.  Feel free to come over and introduce yourselves, I'll be the one with the cello :)

Hi all,
Well I currently live in British Columbia, but I'm planning a big move to Fredericton in August...to attend the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design! Does anyone else go there or know anyone who does? I'm from a small town where I'm the only young crafter I know, and I would LOVE to meet some crafty new friends. I'll post again when it's getting closer to the time I'm leaving (I'm going to drive across Canada to get there which I hope will be awesome) and maybe we could meet up.  :D

Welcome (in advance) to NB!  I know a few people who've gone to that college.  I think a few on http://giraffecycle.com go there.  It's a site where local musicians, and people into the local music/art/indie scene for Fredericton and Saint John get together.

Thanks giggleycraft that's a great site. I can't wait until I move...we have NOTHING like that where I live. It looks like my kind of place! I was wondering whether Fredericton or Saint John is the "hipper" city, or which city you prefer in general. Oh, and are your winters really as cold as people tell me they are? It can get pretty cold where I live, so I don't think it'll bother me either way (extra excuse to knit too) but I was just curious whether people are exaggerating.

Winters can get chilly, but the last two have been unseasonalbly warm--I don't know if it was cooler than -20 degrees C.  Fredericton gets more snow in the winter and is hotter in the summer than Saint John (due to SJ being on the harbour).  I don't know about Fredericton, but the "hipster" scene in SJ has definitely improved over the last few years.  ALSO, us nb-ers are pretty easy to befriend!

I hope you enjoy our province. :)

it's been a while since anyone has posted in this topic, but I just came across it and had to make sure Miramichi was represented! I am from the 'chi though I have been living in Fredericton for the last number of years.  Yay for NBers! =)

There's another Miramichier on here as well.  I'm from downriver, and am completely addicted to making jewelry.  I'm currently in St. John's finishing up a work contract, but will be back home to the 'chi for Christmas and the winter.  Also a shout out to everyone from the northern part of the province, as they say "There's no shore like the north shore"

I'm still in disbelief that I've not know about this site until now.  I've only joined about a week ago, but I have 3 dozen projects bookmarked to try and or modify.

I'm moving to Miramichi from Ontario in June!  I am a little nervous because there isn't a lot online about it.  (For example, are there yoga classes offered?)  Anyways, I hope to continue crafting when I get there.  I silk screen, paint, and sew a lot.  Looking forward to being an Eastener!
