Title: 2019 Ongoing One Tiny Thing Swap Discussion Thread
Post by: BigBangMomma on July 20, 2019 06:18:43 PM
*******************************************************
**This is not to sign up....this is to prepare for the AUGUST SWAP**
*******************************************************

There has been interest in resurrecting the One Tiny Thing Swaps, and I have offered to host an ongoing claim style version. I will be going on vacation next week, and plan to start this swap mid-August when I return. This will serve as our discussion thread for the swap from now on. When I open the swap in about 3 weeks, that thread will be list style claiming only. I am going to go ahead and list the questionnaire here with the info so folks can start getting their wish lists prepared, and can converse about things to add to our lists, and chat all One Tiny Things.  Once sign ups are officially posted, I'll start the claiming by posting my list, and when you sign up and are approved, you may start claiming.

*******************************************************
**This is not to sign up....this is to prepare for the AUGUST SWAP**
*******************************************************

Details of swap:
This is an ongoing swap: I will start the swap with my own list.  You will claim an item from my list then post your own list in response. The next person will claim you and post their own list. It makes a chain. I will make the last claim at the end of the month which will close the claiming for this round.

You will be claiming for (1) One Tiny Thing (OTT). Tiny things, by definition are 4 by 4 by 4 or smaller.  While the size is small, you should put your best effort into making something youd be proud to receive.   You may claim the same person more than once and send all the claims together IF you send by the earliest claims send by date.  For this swap, well consider a set of things oka set of earrings, a small set of tiny notecards, or anything that usually comes in a set (as long as it is less than 4 cubed.)   You are welcome to ask for store bought items as your claim as long as these items are only a small portion of your wish list.
ABOUT SENDING AND RECEIVING...
*PM the person you have claimed and ask for their address when you are ready to ship then:
1) When you send to the person you have claimed, you MUST PM the organizer with the delivery confirmation # or if you are outside the US, you need to either PM the customs number on your receipt from the post office or upload a copy of your post office receipt.
2) When you receive a claim, you MUST PM the organizer so she can update the main list.
3) I am asking that everyone post once a week in the discussion/gallery board--so that I know you're still here with us.  Obviously, if you join mid month, you would only need to post for the weeks you are in the swap (the last 2 weeks cuz you weren't in the swap during the first 2 weeks).
4) Feedback will be given once all of your packages have been received.   If you need to bow out of the swap before the end of claiming, feedback will can be given if all your claims have been received. You need to claim at least 1 time to receive positive feedback. If at the end the swap you have not made a claim, the swap will be dropped from your profile and you will not receive negative feedback.
5) For claims: 1st time swapper 1 unsent claim (until package is in transit with proof).
Regular Swapper 2 unsent claims (until package is in transit with proof)
Friend of Craftster 3 unsent claims (until package is in transit with proof)
If you want to participate, information to send to: BigBangMomma

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap: Ongoing One Tiny Thing Swap Rd 1
Craftster username:

2. Confirm that are at least 16 years old: (YES/NO)
3. Do you understand that you are claiming for one tiny thing? You are welcome to send extras, but please be aware that the person who claims you may not.
4. Are you a Friend of Craftster?
5. How many claims are you allowed? (New swappers--this would be your very first swap ever--1 claim; those who have been in swappers before--2 claims; Friends of Craftster--3 claims) Please type 1, 2 or 3-->
6. Do you agree that you will PM the organizer when you send and when you receive, and if sending, PM the delivery confirmation # or a pic of the receipt if you are outside the US?

7. Do you understand that you should post once a week in the discussion thread?

Any questions?

Do not post in this thread until you are ready to make a claim. All discussion needs to be kept in the discussion/gallery thread. Please post at least once a week in the discussion thread.
When you PM the organizer for sending and receiving please include the name of the swap (including the round) and the due date of the claim.
I.E.  Sally ----> Suzy for a pink pony saddle due out Jan 1
Please pay close attention to your partners hope list and allergies, likes, dislikes etc. Make sure your own allergy information and your country are prominently displayed in your post.
Do not claim someone while waiting for approval. You may claim as soon as you get approval confirmation.
Post your list (if you had specific requests, please include it in your list) The more things you have listed, the quicker the easier it is to keep the claiming moving quickly. :

Items Id like:
1.
2.
3.

Themes Id like:
1.
2.
3.

Store Bought Wishes
1.
2.
3.

Please include your claims status: How many claims you have made in total, how many are in transit and how many have been received by their intended recipients. i.e/ 4 claims/1 in transit/2 received.
If you are a friend of craftster you can have 3 ongoing claims open at a time and no more than 6 total claims open (open meaning in transit as well as not yet received) no matter how many have been posted. As an example, You claim 3 times, send all 3 claims out, then claim 3 more times. Even when you send any or even all of those 3 claims, you can not claim again until a claim has been received. So a person can be 6 claims/3 in transit/0 received.
If you are not a friend of craftster, you can have at most 2 claims ongoing and 4 claims total between ongoing and in transit.  For example: 4 claims/2 in transit/2 received
If this is your first swap, You can have at most one claim in transit and one claim ongoing.
Please keep in mind that DC#'s are required for all US to US claims and receipts are required for all international claims. If you can not provide a receipt and the item does not arrive you will need to resend the claim. Per Craftster rules, you do not need to provide DC if you are sending a papercraft, but if it goes missing, you are required to resend.

If you have questions, please PM BigBangMomma.

Here is a list craftylittlemonkey compiled for us of previous galleries of the One Tiny Thing Swap.
****************************************************************
I am so frikken busy lately but I do love an OTT swap. In fact, I compiled a list of all of these (gallery posts showing images only) in the hope of hosting one of these days. I'll wait for you BBM, I can pull off making a small item but I think organizing anything ongoing would be completely beyond me these days!

If its OK, Im going to post a wish list just to get my own wheels turning.  Maybe it will inspire ideas for others as well.  OTTs that I would love to receive:

A pincushion! Regular, wrist, or ring
Dish scrubbies
A pouch for my headphones
A pouch for pads & tampons
A tiny coin purse key ring. I always forget the quarter for the Aldis grocery carts.  I would love to keep a quarter attached to my keys.
Needle book
An ID holder.  They made us start wearing one at school and the lame-o one I have was free from a National Guard recruiter
A biology teacher themed key chain
An adult merit badge
A ring, bracelet, or necklace with vibrant colors
Anything funny.  Surprise me.  Just make me laugh.  :D

Speaking of funny...I found this camel on Pinterest and hes kind of amazing .

Yeah, supplies are a nice option in ongoing swaps because it helps if claiming starts to stall, but I highly suggest most claims are crafted.

A few more things planned, and officially taking the drive home starting Weds. My brother is with us and leaves Sunday.

We've already got quite a bit of claiming happening! That is so awesome! Several of us have already maxed out our ongoing claims and need to send before we can claim again. So exciting!

edelC, I keep forgetting to reply to your "no extras, at all?" How about this...if you want to send extras, of course, you may. However, when we post our received packages in the Gallery, please only post what you were actually claimed for since this, as we all know, a One Tiny Thing swap. Sound good?

Perfect. I have another question, but I think the above is a technical get out clause. I'm doing wall art for you and for Kartiana. So if the art is less than 4*4 can the frame be bigger. I ask because I have frames that are more like 5*5, but the internal opening is 3*3. And they're perfect for what I have in mind.

I am actually going crazy. Or I have gremlins. Look at this photo. The round thing on the left is a weighing scales, I weigh all packages that I send out because everything from here is by weight.

See that little green envelope, I turned my craft room upsidedown this morning, while weighing and wrapping up the OTT packages-because it was supposed to be included in one of them. I gave up looking for it and put something else in the package. Btw the something else came from the little drawers behind the scales!

Now I've just come home, there has been no& one else in the house and it's sitting on(!) The scales in the middle of the bench.

Gremlins or worm holes

All on their way 😁

Remember that if what you are sending is flat where you can mail it with a stamp, delivery confirmation is not required. You'd only be responsible to resend if it goes missing in the mail.

My last ongoing claim will go out in tomorrow's mail. I'm trying to stick to fairly flat claims, and definitely flat if you are international.

As long as your final claim is less than (or at least appropriate to) 4"x4"x4", it is completely up to you as to what you feel comfortable completes your claim. I feel as if these claims should mostly fall around a "small," in regards to time/money. I claimed kartiana for masterboards and I think I sent 6. I sent just the 1 merit badge I claimed another person for. These would be tiny cards, so probably 3-6 or so. I know it's not an exact number, but I want to leave it up to you and the level of craft that goes into each card. Hope this helps some.

I think I made more than I needed to for BBM... I made 18 cupcakes and 12 hearts.... I feel like I could have easily sent half and it still would have been a good amount. But I had a lot of fun making them and didn't want to make less! lol  :D I did more cupcakes because they were easier and took less time. I'd say 3 or more would be good and a lot of it would depend on the effort and time. If you spend a lot of time, supplies, etc on one card then I wouldn't expect you to make many. If each card is fairly simple then I'd suggest more...

Ladies, remember, if it is flat and can mail in a regular envelope, you can skip the PO. You just are required to resend if it goes missing. I have kept all mine flat for this reason and to save in shipping.

Made it 1/4 of the way through a gorgeous cross stitch pattern and realized it is going to be way too huge :( Luckily I originally bought that pattern because I love it (apparently we have a shared love of hummingbirds) so I will set it in the WIP pile and start on the backup plan.

I started and finished my claim for BigBangMomma tonight. Hopefully I will send tomorrow, but being chronically ill doesn't guarantee that, so we will see. Stamp carving has become my main craft, so this claim was particularly exciting for me. I started carving the same year I stopped swaps, so I have never got to make a stamp for a swap before!

Feels good to get something done in a swap after so long being gone! I love ongoing swaps. Less stress, imo. I hope this swap will return! :)

Okay, now off to start and hopefully finish my other claim: ID badge holder :)

Made it 1/4 of the way through a gorgeous cross stitch pattern and realized it is going to be way too huge :(
I am pretty sure I have done this. Bummer! I am glad you will still get use out of it, though! Any chance of switching to a higher count aida?

Sent off my claim to Powerhouseofthecell for an ID Badge Holder. Took a few attempts to start (I like to craft at night, but have been overwhelmingly exhausted lately), but I got it done last night and it came out just how I imagined. I love when that happens! I think I need to clarify send-outs. The last claim can be made through Sept 8 (I will be the last to claim), and you still have 2 weeks from the day you claim. I think I put send-outs as Sept 8 on the sign up thread only because that is the last day one can make a claim. Sorry for any confusion!

(I will explain more when she receives, but I don't want to give away the theme in the process) Let's just say I need more of it in my life and I am glad this item sparked that.

You guys are amazing!!!!

So far, 41 claims have been been, 38 have been sent, and 22 have been received!!

We have 3 more days available to make claims. I will make the last claim sometime on the 9th.

What did you all think of the ongoing style of this swap?  Would you be interested in another round in a few months? (Unless you are all dying for a round 2 right away and someone else wants to host, as I will be hosting round 2 of the masterboard swap once this one tidies up and need swap spots for a couple other upcoming swaps as well.)

I really love the ongoing style of this as well. Also, being OTT has really been low stress for me with getting back in the groove of swapping. I am open for more rounds either now or in the future, for sure! I kind of like the momentum of crafting small, but frequently. It is actually making me craft instead of dreaming about crafting. Works around my life as a spoonie pretty well, too.

Title: Re: 2019 Ongoing One Tiny Thing Swap Discussion Thread
Post by: curiousfae on September 06, 2019 06:12:07 PM
I would love to do another round. The concept of crafting something small, in a format that I choose, from a list that I can choose from works for the type of crafter I am. I often want to join a swap because I want to make that thing but I don't necessarily want to receive that thing. For example, I do not wear a lot of necklaces but I love making large statement pieces for those that do. So I would not necessarily join a "craft a necklace' swap because I'd hate for someone to make me something I would not use (although I can appreciate the time and beauty of it, I just would not wear it).

p.s. AlishaMisha I just looked up 'spoonie' and learned something! I had no idea. So very interesting and enlightening. It is awesome to know that this sort of crafting works for you!

Ah yes, sorry I forget that words that are common within communities are not as heavily used outside of them. Hahah (For people reading: basically Spoonies are chronically ill people. It comes from the phrase "I don't have enough spoons". Another words, you only have so many spoons [energy] to use at a time before washing [recharging]) I am one who still joins swaps, commits, fulfills, has fun with it, etc., but there is something particularly nice about saying "hey I need time off" if needed when your claims are all sent off, but without having projects hover over you and take up space in your brain. I like crafting soon after making the claim too, so it gives me flexibility to have particularly bad health days and not try to force myself to the post office or craft in that condition. I mean, I will, but it is nice not to.

Wow, lots of claiming happening this weekend! I love it!

Thank you all for your feedback! I'm so glad you all enjoyed the ongoing style. I like having lists to choose from too, and I like the low key aspect of OTT. Best of both worlds!

How do you all feel about picking up a second round in say-- January? I know that seems a long time away, but there'll be winter swaps soon, and STS will be opening up soon, and you can make OTT to list in that swap if you desire!  That seems like a great time frame for when those winter blues start to set in.

Title: Re: 2019 Ongoing One Tiny Thing Swap Discussion Thread
Post by: AlishaMisha on September 08, 2019 01:13:44 AM
Literally this entire time I have been thinking that if I had 2 claims in transit then I had to wait until the recipient receives to claim again...which is silly considering how I have done ongoing swaps before (okay, many years ago, but still) and read the swap rules like 50x. Heck, even when it clicked randomly I still read it 5x to be sure I was reading it right. *facepalm*  I would have been claiming much more otherwise. Oh well, at least I know now and am back in the groove.  :D

So yeah, Allons-y is getting another stamp. Her first is carved, but I will hold so I can add another to her package. I get a tad excited to be able to make stamps, if it wasn't obvious. I don't tend to use stamps in my crafting unless I make LTC's (Letterboxer's Trading Cards, which incorporate a handcarved stamp as the center of attention), which honestly haven't been made in a few years. So I really like making and sending, because otherwise I am not carving much from day-to-day unless I am donating to an event.

I have been so busy lately, I kept wanting to join this swap but putting it off so I could feel a bit more organized. I foolishly thought it would continue on each month like the ongoing ATC swap, d'oh! It's been an absolute joy to watch all the claims, read the wish lists, see the lovely crafts. I hope it will happen more often, I love the idea so much. The low-pressure OTT no extras format is super tempting, even when crazy busy with life stuffs!

craftylittlemonkey, we will be doing this again in January! I'm starting another masterboard swap once this wraps up. I need spots for some of the upcoming swaps. This was my first time organizing in this format and kudos to you for doing the atc swaps so well!
