Welcome Abbeeroad and EriChanHime!  I posted about this in the needleworks thread, maybe spread the word... is it just me or has the swapper participation decreased in last few years? seems I remember tons of swaps to choose from... maybe its just summertime too...

I'll be on vacation during half the crafting time, so I don't feel comfortable signing up for this.

The swaps/participants have decreased from years before, but I personally feel like this year the swaps and participation have started to take an upwards swing again. We're seeing old craftsters come back and new craftsters join in. I've had all 5 swap slots filled almost this entire year, and that hasn't happened in a long time.  I've noticed I've had to pick and choose swaps this year based on swap slots alone.

Embroidery is an excellent travel craft. Just sayin' ;).

I'm at a new full time job & also prepping for a craft fair so only have time for small swaps lately. I loved the last round of this but I got carried away. I'm afraid I don't have 40+ hours to stitch another one right now. I'll happily watch the gallery though :).

Yay Taoj!  And bbm... another old swap partner and a cousin both see me posting my new crafting on fb and noted they havent been on craftster lately either but were reinspired to take a look again... I for one am looking forward to be more into organizing... I have a lot of ideas or even wanting to resurrect old rounds etc...  and I noticed a few coming back besides me... lets hope we can keep the momentum.  Do we still do challenges?

Well, usually it would be a good project, just not for me with some other stresses I have in my life. But, it is a great theme, so maybe I'll use that as a wishlist item in the upcoming OTT swap.

Yes, I've seen fewer swaps than I was expecting, just from looking at archives, but I can say there are more swaps in things that I am interested in, and I just have to be careful not to overextend myself. All the swaps I've done so far have easily taken 9-20 active crafting hours, and I know I can't do 5 of those at one time! ;D Plus, I do a lot of projects for friends, for my dance troupe, and around my house, so that eats into swap time, too. Glad to see old Craftster members popping back in, as well as newer members like myself!

I know the embroidery challenge/craft-a-long is still going, and I think a couple others are, too, like the Harry Potter one.

Dying to get partners! ;)

Embroidery is an excellent travel craft. Just sayin' ;).

I may or may not have been embroidering on my train ride into the city over the weekend... ;)

Most of the swaps I've been doing on Craftster have been smaller lately. It's been a bit slower in general here in recent years. Facebook and Instagram swaps seem to be all the rage these days...personally, I prefer to swap where there's a sense of community. :)

Man, I wish I could craft in the car (not that that would help me now, since I have to do the driving), but in general! I get carsick so easily.

I agree with the idea of wanting community to swap. It's more, you actually get to know people, you "see" them repeatedly, there's more commitment/follow through, etc. All around, I feel safe swapping here. Don't think I would on Facebook...

I swapped a ton both here and on Instagram last year. I've even hosted a couple Instagram swaps, but I still prefer to swap here. I haven't done any Instagram swaps at all this year.

I have embroidered and crocheted in the car before, but unfortunately there will be no elbow room for me. My brother is flying in and then driving with us. He gets carsick so he'll most likely get the passenger seat and I'll be squeezed in the back with the kids.

This is such a great theme that I did add it to my OTT wishlist, though.  I hope you're able to get more people, but small swaps can be fun, too.

TAOJ WULF craftylittlemonkey

Bear with me, I am at work, long hours... five nights in a row, insomnia...

OKAY, so I screwed up a bit, thought I had it figured out then realized that Wulf does not do hooplas, and TAOJ wants only hooplas, but Wulf and Craftylittlemonkey were partnered last year, so I was trying to make it work... we have nine... I figured okay I will take 2 partners... But then sent to CLM as my second partner before ironing out details because I tried a round robin thinking I would send to her but then that messed up the only hoopla wishes for others...

I think it can work if I partner with Wulf as a second because I can do many alternative versions, and CLM and TAOJ could do hooplas together?

sorry guys, I still have nursing notes to write, and work again tonight... don't judge me too harshly... EEK,

Let me know if that makes sense, if not help a sista out... see you in a couple hours when I am home again before bed to make sure I get this straightened out...

many apologies, let me know if everything else seems kosher?

 ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

I have a unique idea for one of my partners... I hope it comes to life well... and then I have to nail down my ideas for the other partner... i was thinking of bringing prepared materials with me for my music festival this weekend but I am not sure I will... not enough time to prepare so I wont start till next week...

I've got a pin board for self and a secret one for partner, I think I've narrowed down colour selection and an idea of design. We're doing a little reorganizing at home this week while both youngsters are away with grandparents and then I think, I hope, I'll be ready to get my stitch on. I'm excited about this. My partner this time wants something a bit more traditional than I made last round which I imagine will end up being less of a How-The-Heck-Do-I-Make-This-Wild-Idea-I've-Got-In-My-Head? and more of a meditative process, haha.

I haven't done any embroidery in forever and I'm super excited about starting it up again. I've stained my fabric, picked a pattern, picked colors, and have started the base outline which should be done tonight and then I'll be on to all of the little details. It's turning out more_____ than ______ but it works since my partner likes both.

I've been stalking and looking at mandala drawings, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I think this evening I'll just put a dot in the middle of a piece of fabric and start stitching. Maybe it'll go somewhere.

Hard question! Right now, probably my adjustable seam gauge, as I've been making a lot of dance costumes that start off as huge rectangles of fabric. :D

Yep. I have an organizer box of (mostly) sorted thread, my embroidery scissors, my favorite needles, and some small beads. I may not know where ANYTHING else is, but I know where that box is!

And modpodge.

Wow, that's a really hard question to answer. For this one of course, it's easy: a needle and thread. But that's probably in the top two or three tools across all my crafts and projects. Number one might be an X-acto Knife - it seems to be in my hand for so many operations. I don't know what number my bone bookbinding folder might land at, but it's surely in the top five. I think I'd need to watch myself on hidden camera for a few months and take careful notes.

That is an impossible question to answer. Honestly, can I say the floor? It's where I end up laying everything out after I've filled all the other spaces, lol. I am actually not kidding, there's a square patch quilt covering every walkable inch at the moment in fact.

I'm stuck. I am cross stitching without a pattern and it's not as easy to thread-doodle as embroidery is. How do you even make a proper circle on aida? I obviously haven't figured it out. I'll work on it some more and if it's not happening I'll switch to a different fabric. Craft experimentation works best when you don't have a deadline and a partner expecting something nice to look at, lol.

Oof. Probably scissors. Whether I'm cutting thread or yarn or fabric They are always needed for projects.

Finally getting started. Excited to stitch, it's been forever and a half. Trying to prep this one so it can go to work with me this week. I have a 15 min, break in the evening time that will be perfect for chipping away at this. (And I'd rather be crafting than snacking, which is my usual go to.)

I have other partners pattern made out and then I am gonna stitch it. It is free handed also... both are based on pinterest stalking...

I went to get a hoop and they did not have the colour I wanted, boo. So plain wood is what I ended up with, I'll have to figure out a way to fancy that up. I did figure out how to cross stitch a round shape, maybe it's not a perfect circle but it's even in all the ways that matter and a good outline for part of the design. Maybe I'll get the stitching all finished up this weekend, we'll see how all our house work goes (we're fixing a few things around here this summer).

Oh dear, I see what you mean. But at least you knew to stop - I sometimes won't admit something hasn't worked until it's nearly done. Or I'm almost out of time, which is the same thing.

I've been making excellent, steady progress. As is often the case, I went into this swap with a very clear idea of what I was going to make, and I was really looking forward to it, but then as soon as I got my partner faemystique's questionnaire and looked at her Pinterest boards, I headed off in a completely different direction. ;D But I really like what's going on. Oddly, I started about a third of the way out from the centre and I'm working up to what I think will be the edge. Eventually I'm going to have to go and finish off the centre, but for some reason I've been putting it off. I don't think I'm entirely clear yet on what will go there.

Thank you for saying it sucks Wulf, lol. That actually makes me feel a bit better about abandoning it. It's sitting there all sad and forlorn on the desk but it's getting no more attention from me. The next attempt is working out much better, it's so easy to go back and add in detail, change up some stitches, think about colour gradation, all the pluses and flexibility of embroidery. I'm way more inspired.

My uncle does the genealogy research in our family. Fascinating stuff!

My kids and my cats are my main focus, I'm a single mom of 2 boys and love every second of my time with them. We also have 3 special needs cats that require a lot of care. I love reading but barely ever find time to anymore.

Awww, kitties! I wish I could have pets right now, but allergies+HOA bylaws make that a no-go. Someday! Amusingly enough, there is a lovely little curio/gift/bookstore in downtown Austin called Kids-N-Cats. Sounds like you would fit in perfectly! :)

I guess my houseplants could be my non crafting hobby. I知 a grad student, a mom, and I work 2 jobs. Doing some form of stitching every day is my self care.

Houseplants are nice! The place I live now is the first one where I've ever managed to get anything to grow at all, and I still have a ways to go. I'm always impressed by people with lots of lovely plants around.

SKiing/hiking...anything that puts me in the mountains.

Mountains are always lovely. My brain definitely tried to interpret that as water skiing, though, and wondered where in the mountains you were possibly doing that... It's second Monday. ;D

My non-crafty hobbies are reading (SO. MUCH. READING), watching films or playing computer games (single-player; I like to destroy zombies and solve puzzles), and I enjoy Geo-caching occasionally. It's way too hot right now, though! :D

I'm sure I am going to love it. I really enjoy seeing how people interpret a theme and especially how they view my likes through their own lens. That's really cool.

Non-crafting hobbies, we have a garden in summer. I spend time rearranging our house, always looking for more efficient ways to organize and store things. I am a chronic collector and then destasher of goodies. I love finding abandoned treasures but I loathe clutter, lol. I like cultivating friendships, I enjoy getting to know people and sharing life adventures. I like to cook. I also like to organize and clean, that sounds crazy-pants but it's true. I enjoy learning about health, herbs, nutrition, yoga,  kinesiology. I think I really enjoy the flexibility of changing my interest to whatever strikes my fancy. Genealogy is cool.

Gardening, Hiking, camping, festivals and magic.
I am extremely fortunate to have a local pagan campground to frequent, so making new friends and enjoying the land is very near and dear to my heart. I travel to festivals.  Community is very important to me and I feel blessed to be a part of one, that includes the craftster community as well. Being a part of something is wonderful.

Yes! Love this! :) I'm pretty heavily involved in the PTA at my son's school. Some days I wonder why, then I realize this. And the sense of community that goes along with pulling off an event everyone enjoys. :)

My progress is painfully slow. I might have to start over this weekend with something a bit more manageable. :(

Gorgeous view.

Is anybody else experiencing this? I make a plan, I stitch it out, it seems to need a little more so I add. Then add. Then add some more... lol, a few lines are getting kind of chunky and it feels at this rate like I'm not going to be finished any time soon. I have all day tomorrow, I'm going to sit and stitch and sit and stitch until I get at least close to done.

ETA hours of stitching later and it still doesn't look finished to me, hmm... I am going to thicken one of the outlines and add a little something special to another 2 areas. I also still have the hoop to decorate in some manner, I am not happy with how the plain wood looks with the design I doodled, instead of fading into the background it seems to stand out as a part that doesn't fit in. Then it's washing, drying, stretching, photographing, packaging, and last making a trip to the post office, whew! Maybe tomorrow or Tuesday. My man and the noisy child are away camping for a few days so it will be quiet at home, I could actually manage to get a bit of work done on a week day for a change, haha.

I finally bought the right sized hoop and as I was putting it in the hoop I noticed a small tear in the fabric, I think it is small enough and in a good place where I can put a small patch on the back and it won't be noticeable. Fingers crossed that it works because I'm really happy with how the stitching turned out and I would be so sad if it was ruined.

I received a beautiful mixed media stitched mandala from TAOJ, pics going up in the gallery in 2 shakes!

As for mine, I washed it this morning so it's dry now and ready for the final touches. I like how it's turning out and I'm really happy I kept stitching when I wasn't sure if I should stop. It's in very different colours than I would choose for myself and more symmetrical too, I liked the challenge of getting out of my comfort zone. Not to give too much away... it's traditional, shall we say? I enjoyed the process and really hope my partner will like it.

Today is going to be an insane finishing push for me! Last night I was going to work on it for a while, but I just pooped out. It's been a rough couple weeks physically, and I needed the sleep. Never craft over-tired! You make lousy mistakes and have to re-do things anyway. ;D I re-evaluated some of the tracing I'd prepped, and decided to re-do bits of it anyway. It's a slightly organic design, but not THAT organic. ;)

I'm almost done! I brought it to work and worked on it during breaks, and I have a little bit left to crank out and then I can pack/mail this evening!

In the mail to Faemystique today. I really like what I ended up with - one of my better stitching efforts, if I say so myself.

I'm all finished, but won't be able to send out until Monday. (Messages sent to inform)

That last stretch of stitching was trying for me because I bent my needle and can't seem to find my needle book anywhere. (We moved rooms in the last two weeks, so things are slightly more organized but still a bit jumbled.)

I once rolled over in bed in High School and found my lost needle, firmly implanted deep in my hip!!!! hope you find the book...

Yay! Good work. :)

I finished everything last night, including packing it up very carefully (messages sent), but my Dad came over unexpectedly, and we ended up spending a long time having a good chat (he and his car were the victims of a hit and run accident the day before, and I am slowly bringing him around to the idea of seeing a specialist for therapeutic massage to relieve impact soreness), and it was too late after to run to the Post Office kiosk--not a fan of going to a dark parking lot/building by myself at 11:45 at night... ;D

My swap package is with me at work today, and I will be swinging by the Post Office on my way home! :D I am DYING with anticipation for it to arrive.

Looking forward to all the stunning things that will fill the gallery soon, to join the one early bird hoop!

I received my mandala (and a whole lotta other goodies) from our Organizer today. Of course that's when I realized my phone battery was dead, so I'm charging it now and there'll be photos later this evening. It's SO worth the wait!

I was afraid the wee man in the center got lost when I went stitch crazy... its upside down in the post... not sure if you recognized it... its from a drum you had posted on pinterest, I originally started with those designs then changed it as I went...

I absolutely did not recognize the little figure in the middle - it's brilliant! And even though I saw the umbrella, I didn't realize its significance. :D

Thanks for organizing this swap. It's been a great one!
