Title: 2019 Nerd Battles: January 1 - December 31, 2019 ~*Join Anytime!*~
Post by: LovelyMiss on December 31, 2018 12:24:10 PM

Welcome to the 2019 Nerd Battles Arena!

The Nerd Games welcome all players from the Nerdyverse to join! The games are to inspire, encourage, and motivate your crafting adventure.  Players can join anytime during the season.

Are you wondering if you are part of the Nerdyverse?  John Green describes it quite well...
“…Nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff…  Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself love it.  ...When people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’  Which is just not a good insult at all.  Like, ‘You are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’.”

Rules of Engagement
--Players must craft to the best of their abilities and have a minimum of 30 minutes of crafting time per submission, unless otherwise noted.
--A project can only be submitted for one prompt or crafting opportunity.
--A project does NOT have to be "nerdy,” it only has to fulfill the prompt as you see it.
--Submitted projects must be started and completed during the current season, unless otherwise noted.
--There is SO MUCH to do in the Nerd Games.  Do not feel like you have to craft everything.  Do what inspires you.
--We welcome all players from the Nerdyverse, no matter their Geekdom.
--We are never mean.
--We never exclude someone.
--We will keep it clean-ish (PG-13).
--We will follow all Craftster guidelines, this includes staying on-topic (serious OT goes in FOC OT boards).
--Never hesitate in contacting the Gamemakers with your questions, concerns, or ideas.

--How to Join the Nerd Games--
It is easy to join in the Nerd Games craftalong!  Simply craft an item that fits one of the posted prompts and take photos of your finished project.  Post your project photos in the official Nerd Games thread (that's where you are now!).  Make sure to include the Completed Project Header (see “How to turn in a project”) with each project you post.  In the Header of your first completed project you will declare your team. (You do not need to choose a team before you post your first project.)  You officially join a team when your first project is submitted.

About Teams
There are five teams:
Team Textbook: Geekdom of Logic, Knowledge, Science, and Math;
Team Multimedia: Geekdom of Movies, TV, Music, and Gamers;
Team Wordy: Geekdom of Readers, Books, and Wondrous Words;
Team Fandom: Geekdom of Fanfics, Conventions, Midnight Openings, and Beacons of the Nerdyverse;
Team Randomizer: Geekdom of OOAKs, Oddballs, and Marchers to Different Drummers.

--Teams are where like-minded players join to work together.
--There is no limit to the number of people in a team.
--Though you may feel at home on more than one team, pick the one that draws you the most.
--You may choose a new team at the beginning of each season, but you cannot change teams during a season.

Brownie Points Projects:  Items crafted for charity that are not submitted under prompts or other crafting opportunities.  Brownie Points Projects are worth 20 points, and are eligible for all available Bonus Points.  There is no limit to the number of Brownie Points Projects you may submit each season.  Projects must take at least 30 minutes of crafting time to complete.  Make sure to claim Giver Bonus Points on any projects you submit under this opportunity.

Random Acts projects are worth 20 points each and are eligible to claim all available Bonus Points.  There is no limit to the number of Random Acts Projects you may submit each season.

Free-Range Crafting:  Any project that you do not turn in under prompts or other crafting opportunities.  Free-Range projects are worth 20 points each and are eligible to claim all available Bonus Points.  You may submit up to TWO Free-Range projects each month.  Free-Range projects can be anything you want, but must take at least 30 minutes to craft.

Big Time Projects:  Any project that you do not turn in under a prompt or other crafting opportunity that takes at least FIVE HOURS to complete.  Big Time projects are worth 50 points each and are eligible for all available Bonus Points.  You may turn in up to 20 Big Time projects per season.

Bonus Raffle Ticket Opportunities

Throwback:  Post any previously crafted project that you have not previously submitted to the Nerd Games/Battles for points.  There is no time period in which the project needs to have been crafted, but it must have taken at least 30 minutes to complete.  Throwbacks are not worth any points, but you will earn one Raffle Ticket for each Throwback project posted.  Since Throwbacks do not earn points, they do not qualify for Bonus Points, or count toward the Medal Events during the Summer round.  You may submit up to 12 Throwback projects per year.

---Research Project Lab---
Research Projects are self-directed projects, similar to independent study.  They are more time-consuming than normal prompts, and are meant to be a personal challenge to the player.  Research Projects must take a minimum of three weeks OR 20 hours to complete.

Research Projects are worth 200 points, and are eligible for 10 Giver Bonus Points (if the project is for charity), 10 Engineering Bonus Points (if the project includes a new tutorial, pattern, or recipe), 10 Community Bonus Points (if project is given its own thread with at least 3 photos, one of which is a progress/process shot), 10 WIP It Bonus Points (if the project is a work-in-progress/un-finished object), 10 Brain Power Bonus Points (if the project involves a new skill/technique), 10 Swaptastic Bonus Points (if the project is for a Swap or the Nerd Games Raffle), and 100 EPIC! Bonus Points (if the project takes more than 45 hours to complete, and at least one progress photo is posted in the Discussion Thread  (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=426697.0)during the course of the project).  More than one set of Bonus Points may be claimed if the project meets the necessary requirements of each.

---RESEARCH PROJECT FAQ---
How do I do a Research Project?
Research Projects must be proposed before you begin so Gamemakers can keep track of your progress and offer encouragement along the way.  Use the Research Project Proposal Header, available below, to propose your project in this thread.  If your project is a surprise, such as a swap item, you may PM your proposal to the Head Gamemaker, LovelyMiss.  Include relevant information in your proposal, such as materials, plan of action, and a timeline of how your project will fulfill the three week/20 hour crafting requirement.  You may post progress photos in the Discussion thread (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=426697.750), but it is not a requirement.

Once your Research Project is complete, you will turn it in using the Research Project Submission Header, available below.  Give details and provide at least one photo of your completed Research Project in your post.  Research Projects should be submitted in this thread.

How long do Research Projects have to take?
Speed and difficulty are very subjective and unique to each individual.  Research projects need to minimally take at least 20 hours OR be “in the works” for at least three weeks, as well as be a personal challenge to you.

Your crafting time begins when you submit your proposal.  Research projects may take longer than 20 hours/three weeks.  Any unfinished Research Projects at the end of the season will carry over to the next round of the Nerd Battles/Games.

What counts as crafting time for the requirements?
The 20 hour/three week time requirement is based on "active" crafting time, where you are engaging with the project or materials in some way.  "Passive" crafting time can be counted, if it makes up a small percentage (20% or less), of the 20 hour/three week minimum.  An example of passive crafting time is long soaking periods where the materials are sitting untouched.  If you check on them, and swirl them around, you can count the swirling/checking time as active time.  If you have to keep a close eye on things so you're checking and altering/engaging every 10-15 minutes, you can count all of that as active crafting time.  Other passive crafting time examples might be the time food sits in a slow cooker, long drying times for paint or material, and curing times for things like candles or soap.

What if I finish early?
Research Projects that do not take the allotted three week/20 hour time limit will not be counted as complete.  If you finish earlier than expected, craft an additional items(s) that corresponds to your Research Project.  Add a note when you turn in your project that you finished early, and include details about your additional crafting.

How do I choose a Research Project?
A Research Project can be anything that will be a personal challenge to you and that takes at least three weeks/20 hours of crafting time. If you decide to change or abandon your Research Project, notify the Head Gamemaker, LovelyMiss, and your proposal will be deleted from the records.  Each player may have two Research Projects proposed at a time.  If you want to propose a new Research Project, you must make sure one of your slots is free, either by completing or deleting a proposal.

Can I propose a work-in-progress as a Research Project?
Yes, as long as you have at least three weeks/20 hours of crafting time left to go on the project before it is finished.  You should include WIP status and timeline information when you fill out the Research Project Proposal Header to demonstrate that your project requires at least three more weeks or 20 hours of work to be complete.

Can I have multiple Research Projects?
You may have three Research Project going at a time.  If you decide to change or abandon a Research Project, notify the Head Gamemaker, LovelyMiss, and your proposal will be deleted from the records.  Once a Research Project is completed or deleted, you may propose another, up to three total.  You may unlock a fourth Research Project spot by completing two Research Projects within one 365 day period.

When can I propose a Research Project?  When are Research Projects due?
You may propose a Research Project at any time during the season. Your crafting time begins when you submit your proposal.  Research Projects can take longer than three weeks/20 hours to complete.  Any unfinished Research Projects at the end of the season will carry over to the next round of the Nerd Battles/Games.

How many points are Research Projects worth?
Research Projects will earn 200 points.  Research Projects are also eligible to earn Engineering, Giver, Community, WIP It, Brain Power, Swaptastic, and EPIC! Bonus Points.  Research Projects are separate from the normal Challenge/Battle/UFO Sighting/Red Alert prompts.  In most cases it is not permissible to "double dip" on individual Research Project elements, so anything included in a Research Project cannot also be turned in for a Nerd Games prompt or other crafting opportunity.

---How To Turn in a Project---

Spend at least 30 minutes crafting a project that fits the requirements of a posted prompt.  Take a photo of your finished project.  Post your project photo(s), along with the Completed Project Header, in this thread.

--COMPLETED PROJECT HEADER--
Use this header for each project you submit. Research Projects have a special header, which can be found in the Research Project Lab (above).

Prompt:  (please include month & category)
Team:
Bonus Points: (include which bonus points you think you've earned, e.g., Giver, Engineering, Community, WIP It, Swaptastic, Brain Power, Timely, Participation, EPIC!)
Project Name:
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.)
Project Picture:

You may add more than one project to your post, but a Completed Project Header must be used for each project you submit.

The Research Project Proposal and Submission Headers can be found in the Research Project Lab.

Title: --Point System--

---Point System---

Challenges, Battles, UFOs, and Red Alerts will earn 20 points unless otherwise noted.  Challenges, Battles, UFOs, and Red Alerts are eligible for additional Bonus Points.  All projects submitted under these prompts must meet the 30 minute crafting time requirement.

Brownie Points Projects will earn 20 points, and ARE eligible for additional Bonus Points.  Brownie Points Projects are items crafted for charity during the season that are NOT turned in as a prompt or Research Project.  Brownie Points Projects must meet the 30 minute crafting time requirement.  There is no limit on the number of Brownie Points projects you may submit during a season.  Be sure to claim Giver Bonus Points on any Projects (including Brownie Points) you complete!

Random Acts projects will earn 20 points, and ARE eligible for additional Bonus Points.  Random Acts projects can be anything that you don't turn in under another prompt that would be considered a random act of kindness/craftiness.  This might be things like abandoned art or public art/crafting.  You must submit photos of both the completed project AND an "action" shot of the act being conducted.  Random Acts projects must meet the 30 minute crafting time requirement. There is no limit on the number of Random Acts projects you may submit per season.

Free-Range Crafting projects will earn 20 points, and ARE eligible for additional Bonus Points.  Free-Range Crafting projects can be anything that you don't turn in under another prompt.  Free-Range projects must meet the 30 minute crafting time requirement.  You may submit up to two Free-Range Crafting projects per month.

Big Time projects will earn 50 points, and ARE  eligible for additional Bonus Points.  Big Time projects are anything that takes at least five hours of crafting time, and that you do not turn in under another prompt or crafting opportunity.  You may turn in up to 20 Big Time projects per season.

Zaps will earn 5 points, and ARE  eligible for additional Bonus Points.  Zaps are any projects that take fewer than 30 minutes to complete.  You may turn in up to 24 Zaps per season.

Research Projects will earn 200 points.  Research Projects are projects that take at least three weeks OR 20 hours to complete.  You must submit a proposal for a Research Project to count.  Research Projects are separate from the normal Challenge/Battle/Alert prompts.  In most cases it is not permissible to "double dip" on individual Research Project elements, so anything included in a Research Project cannot also be turned in for a Nerd Games Challenge/Battle/Alert prompt, or as a Non-Prompt Crafting Opportunity.  Research Projects are eligible for additional Bonus Points.
Visit the Research Project Lab for more information on completing a Research Project.

You can earn 10 Bonus Points for...
--Timely: Submitting a Prompt in the month it was issued;
--Engineering: Turning in a project that includes a new tutorial, pattern, or recipe;
--Giver:  Crafting a project for charity;
--Community:  Creating a post for your project on the appropriate Craftster board and including at least one clear, good-quality photo;
--WIP It:  Completing a WIP/UFO (Work-In-Progress/Unfinished Object);
--Brain Power: Completing a project that required you to learn a new skill or technique;
--Swaptastic: Completing a project for a swap, or that will be donated to the Nerd Games Raffle;
--Participation: Entering a project into a Craftster Challenge (site-wide, or board-specific);
--EPIC!:  Completing an item that takes more than 45 hours of crafting time, and creating a post for the project in the appropriate Craftster board;
--Prompt specific:  Some prompts may include the opportunity for special bonus points.  This information will be included in the text for the prompt.
You may earn more than one set of bonus points for your project.

At the End Game, there will be Winners (but really no losers)
--Team Winners: average taken from number of players & point scored
--Special Awards: given by gamemakers
Winnings will include bragging rights, badges, and possible prizes.

Nerd Games FAQ
See the Research Project Lab and the Raffle Roundup posts for FAQs specific to those topics.

DATES & TIMES
What is the Nerd Battles time zone?
The Nerd Battles uses central time.  For month specific prompts (like Battle Royales), have your projects posted by 11:59 p.m. central time on the last day of the month.  The Nerd Battles close at 11:59 p.m. central time on the last day of the season.

When do the seasons run?
The Nerd Battles season is one calendar year.  The Summer Nerd Games event runs from June - August.

When can I join?
You can join the Nerd Battles at any time during the season.

When are prompts posted?
New Challenge and Battle Royale prompts are posted each month.  They are usually available by noon on the first day of the month.  UFO and Team Spirit prompts are posted at the start of the season, when available.  Alert prompts are posted at unspecific times.

When are projects due?
Battle Royale prompts are due by the end of the month in which it is issued.  Challenge prompts may be turned in any time during the season, regardless of the month in which they are issued.  For example, June Challenges may be turned in during August.  Any special Alert prompts will indicate their specific due date.

TEAMS
How do I join a Team?
You officially join a Team and will be added to the roster when you post your first project.

Can I switch Teams?
You can choose a new Team at the start of each season (or whenever you start playing).  Changing Teams during the season is not allowed.

PROJECTS
Do projects have to be nerdy?
No.  As long as you describe how your item fits the prompt, it can be anything that meets the noted crafting time requirements.

Do the projects I turn in have to be crafted during a certain time period?
Any projects you turn in should be crafted during the current season of the Nerd Battles/Games.  One exception is for works-in-progress.  In the case of WIPs you may have completed a majority of the work prior to the season starting, but as long as you put in at least 30 minutes of crafting time during the current season to finish the project, it is acceptable to turn it in for a prompt.  Be sure to identify projects as WIPs when you post them, and don't forget to claim WIP It Bonus Points for any WIPs you complete.  Prompts you submit do not need to be crafted during the month they are issued, just anytime during the current season (except Battle Royales).  Of course, life happens sometimes, and crafting and internet time don't always fit into perfect deadlines, so if you finished a project within the last three or four days of one season, you can feel free to post the projects in the new season.  We're on the honor system!  But please do try your best to get your projects turned in during the season they were crafted.

If I craft multiples of the same item, can each one be turned in under a separate prompt?
It's up to you how you turn in projects.  Some players post each item under a different prompt, or some players turn like items in as a set under the same prompt.  Both are acceptable, as long at it meets the crafting time requirements.  (To post them as separate prompts, each iteration will need to take at least 30 minutes of crafting time.)

Can a project "count" for more than one Craftalong?
Yes, definitely, as long as it fits the respective prompts or rules for each Craftalong.  For example, a project may be turned in for a Challenge prompt in the Nerd Battles, and the same project may also be turned in for a Class in the HPC.

Is there a minimum number of projects I need to post?  Do I have to keep up in the thread and comment on every project posted?
No. Though some players like to comment on all of the projects, or turn in many projects, it's all just for fun.  Pop in when you can, comment when you're inspired, post projects when you want to, and don't worry when life gets in the way!  There is no need to ever feel guilty about your level of participation in the Nerd Games.

I finished a project, but it's for a swap, so I just want to post a link to the photo(s).  How do I create a link to a photo?
Upload the photo as normal, and choose the "Copy and paste this into your Craftster post" link.  In that link change [ img ] to [ url ] and [ / img ] to [ / url ] (without the spaces).  Once your secret project is received, you may want to edit your post so the images appear.  When you do, be sure to announce it in the thread, or send a message to our Pinterest Pinner so that it can be added to the appropriate board!

I made an item for my craft shop or for a commission.  Can I post it to the Nerd Games?
Yes, of course!  There are some general Crafster rules (https://www.craftster.org/rules.html#menu2) about mentioning sales and commissions when posting a project, which also apply to the Craftalong/Nerd Games threads.  Basically, just don't mention that the item was/is/or will be fore sale when you post.  You might say things like, "This was a custom request," or, "I made an agreement with a friend to make this item," instead of saying, "This was for a commission," or, "A customer requested this special order."  This is all in an effort to avoid subtle advertising and unintentional fishing for sales.  Check out Crafster rules (https://www.craftster.org/rules.html#menu2) for more information, or feel free to PM the Head Gamemaker with any questions.

PROMPTS AND CRAFTING OPPORTUNITIES
What is the Battle Royale and how it is different from other prompts or projects?
The Battle Royale is a prompt that is due by the end of the month in which it is issued.  It is in the format of ____ vs. ____, and you choose a side and craft an item that represents your choice.  It is a separate, stand-alone prompt and does not have anything to do with any other prompts or projects you may submit (expect perhaps in theme).  You may submit one project for each Battle Royale issued.  At the end of each month the total number of projects for each side is tallied, the winner is announced in the thread.

What are Zaps and how are they different than other projects?
Zaps are an extra opportunity to turn in projects to the Nerd Games.  All regular Nerd Games submissions have a crafting time requirement of at least 30 minutes.  Any project that takes fewer than 30 minutes may be turned in as a Zap.  Zaps do not have prompts; it can be anything that takes fewer than 30 minutes to complete.  You may submit up to 24 Zaps during the season.

What are Big Time projects and how are they different than other projects?
Big Time projects are an extra opportunity to turn in projects to the Nerd Games.  Big Time projects are anything that take at least FIVE HOURS to complete, that you do not turn in under another prompt or crafting opportunity.  You may turn in up to 20 Big Time projects per season.

What is Free-Range Crafting and how is it different than other projects?
Free-Range Crafting is not a prompt, but just an option to turn in extra projects for the Nerd Games.  Free-Range projects can be anything that takes at least 30 minutes to craft.  It is a great option for that project that just won't fit into a prompt, or if you finish the prompts and still want to craft other items.  You may submit TWO Free-Range Crafting projects per month.

What are Team Spirit prompts and why don't I see them anywhere?
Team Spirit prompts are only issued during the Summer round of the Nerd Games.  They are prompts based on each Team, and have special Bonus Points associated with them (which are explained in detail when they are posted).  Look for them during the upcoming Summer Nerd Games.

BONUS POINTS
I want to claim Timely Bonus Points.  What do I have to do?
Timely Bonus Points can be claimed when you submit a prompt in the month it was issued.  For example, if a Challenge Prompt was issued in January, and you submit it on January 28, you can claim Timely Bonus Points.  If you submit a prompt that was issued in January on February 28, you would not be able to claim Timely Bonus Points for the January prompt.

I want to claim Engineering Bonus Points.  What do I have to do?
Engineering Bonus Points can be claimed for a project when you provide a new related recipe, pattern, or tutorial on Craftster.  While it is only specifically necessary to provide the pattern/tutorial/recipe in the Nerd Games thread, you are encouraged to create a post for your project containing photos and your recipe/pattern/tutorial on the appropriate Craftster Board (and provide a link to that post when you submit your project in this thread).  This will allow more members of the community, outside of the Craftalong, to benefit from your work.  Each recipe, pattern, or tutorial you provide may only be submitted for Engineering Bonus Points one time.

I want to claim Giver Bonus Points.  What is considered a "charity?"
Giver Bonus Points may be claimed for projects that are made for organized charities, nonprofits, or groups that assist others in need (items made for fundraisers are acceptable).  Making something for someone specifically in need is definitely in the Giver spirit and eligible for bonus points, but just doing something nice for someone you know, or making something for a friend does not meet the Giver criteria (though those are great reasons to craft, too!).  Please let us know the organization/cause your projects are made for when you post and claim Giver Bonus Points.

I want to claim Community Bonus Points.  What do I have to do?
You may claim Community Bonus Points when you create a post for your project in the appropriate Craftster board.  In that post you must include one high-qaulity photograph of your project.  You must then provide a link to that thread when you submit your project to the Nerd Games.  If you make a "master post" for a specific project in the correct Craftster board, where you post multiple iterations that project, and then submit each iteration separately in the Nerd Games, you may claim Community Bonus Points on each separate project submission/iteration.  So, for example, if you make six purses and post them all together in the Purses category (and include three photos, one of which is a progress shot), and then submit each purse separately when you post them in the Nerd Games, each purse would qualify claim Community Bonus Points (so you could claim Community Bonus Points six different times for that one master post).

I want to claim WIP It Bonus Points.  What types of projects are considered WIPs/UFOs?
WIPs/UFOs are projects that you have already started but put aside for some reason or another.  Maybe you lost steam or got distracted, or maybe you ran out of an item you needed.  WIPs/UFOs might also be projects that you specifically bought supplies for, but never got around to making.  Simply using up a supply you've had for a while is not a WIP/UFO, unless that supply was bought specifically for that project.  If a project takes a week or more of steady effort, it might also be considered a WIP/UFO.  There is no required amount of time that a project needs to have been on "hold" to be considered a WIP/UFO (but probably more than a single day).  Please make sure your project fits one of the outlined conditions when you claim WIP It Bonus Points.  If you need help determining whether or not your project is a WIP/UFO, post a description of your item/situation in the Discussion thread (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=426697.0). (Note: WIP It Bonus Points were previously named UFO Bonus Points.)

I want to claim Brain Power Bonus Points. What is considered a new skill?
A “new crafting skill” is learning a new technique within a craft you already know how to do (learning how to knit cables if you already know how to knit, learning how to machine bind a quilt if you already know how to sew, learning encaustic if you do paper crafts/mixed media work) or learning something completely new (learning how to needle felt if you’ve never done that before).  Of course we are always learning when we make things, but it should be easy to see and explain how it is a separate and standalone skill.  Using a new supply does not count (unless it also involves learning a new skill).  You may only claim Brain Power Bonus Points on the first project you submit that utilizes that new skill.

I want to claim Swaptastic Bonus Points.  What is considered a swap item?
Any project that you make for an organized swap may claim the Swaptastic Bonus Points (whether the swap is on Craftster or another site).  Please share some details of the swap when you post your project so we can better understand your inspiration.  You may also claim Swaptastic Bonus Points for any items you make for the Nerd Games Raffle.  Additionally, you may claim Swaptastic Bonus if you participate in a personal swap that is facilitated through a group or website, if you share the name of the group or website, and the swap arrangement you had with your partner.

I want to claim Participation Bonus Points.  What do I have to do?
Participation Bonus Points can be claimed when you submit a project for a Craftster Challenge.  The Challenge may be a site-wide Craftster Challenge, or a board/thread specific Challenge.

I want to claim EPIC! Bonus Points.  What do I have to do?
EPIC! Bonus Points are for projects that take at least 45 hours of crafting time to complete.  In order to claim EPIC! Bonus Points, you must create a post for your project in the appropriate Craftster board.  You are qualified to claim Community Bonus Points when you complete the posting requirements for and EPIC! Project.  Make sure to claim them on your Completed Project Header (the Community Bonus Points are not automatic, and will not be added to your score unless you claim them specifically in addition to your EPIC! Bonus Points).

What if I need to modify a post to add Bonus Points after the fact?
If you ever go back and modify an entry to add Bonus Points, please make it known in this thread by posting a link to your modified post and describing what you did, OR PM the info to storerboughtcreations to make sure you are credited with the proper points.

OTHER
Do I have to sign-up to play?
No.  The only thing you have to do is start posting projects!  See the "How to join the Nerd Battles" section in the post above for more information.

How are monthly themes or prompts chosen?
Most themes are submitted by players to LovelyMiss via PM.  If you have any ideas, please feel free to send them along.  Themes are then assigned to each month in a season, generally with "harder" themes in the earlier month(s), and "easier" themes in the later month(s).  This is so there is maximum time to think and craft on prompts that might require a little more creativity to fulfill.  Themes are selected based on a lot of things, including the number of times it has been suggested, the creativity of the theme, available prompt ideas to fit within the theme, and even the particular month (for instance, winter themes in winter months).

I've heard Nerd Battles, Nerd Games, and Nerdalong.  Are they different?
In short, no.  Technically the Nerd Games happen during the Summer, and Nerd Battles the rest of the year, but they all fall under the Nerd Games umbrella and are used interchangeably.  "Nerdalong" is another all-encompassing moniker for the Nerd Battles/Games (which comes from Nerd+Craftalong).

What if I have a problem or questions?
If you have an issue or question feel free to contact the Head Gamemaker, LovelyMiss, or Deputy Gamemaker, storerboughtcreations.  If you have a general question about the Nerd Games, you might want to head over the the Discussion Board (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=426697.0).  We have wonderfully friendly and helpful players who would love to share their wisdom!

---Nerd News Updates---
Updates are issued periodically to announce new features, or provide players with information about the Nerd Battles/Games.  All updates issued during the current season can be found below.

Title: --Special Event--
Post by: LovelyMiss on January 01, 2019 01:19:55 PM
---SPECIAL EVENT:  Craft the Alphabet---

There will be a special event happening this year!  Craft the Alphabet, as suggested by our wonderful, craftADDchick!

Beginning now, and ending September 1, 2019, you will have the opportunity to turn in projects that specifically incorporate the letters of the (English) alphabet.  The letters must appear in the craft itself (we’re not going for loose interpretations or metaphors here).  At most, a single project can count for TWO letters.  So, even if your project uses the entire alphabet, you can only use that project to fulfill two letters.  Everyone who completes the entire alphabet by September 1, 2019 (at 11:59 pm central time) will be eligible for a physical reward.

THESE ARE NOT SEPARATE PROMPTS.  You will use projects you turn in for Prompts/Non-Prompt Crafting/Research Projects to fulfill the project requirements for the Craft the Alphabet Event.

In order to claim your completed letters, you will add the links to your projects into the Alphabet Event Google Spreadsheet.

Notice about using Google Spreadsheets:  Each player will have their own sheet/tab.  Make sure you only edit your tab.  Click through and find one that hasn’t been claimed yet.  You may re-title the tab to your username to make it easier to find.

Project Name: Bearded Dragon Santa Hat
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: My husband's district manager has a bearded dragon, and she really wanted him to have a hat for Christmas. Despite working at a pet store, she couldn't find a hat small enough. My husband asked me to make a tiny Santa hat for her lizard. I thought I made it small enough, but it's still too big. If they are still working together next year, I may have to make another hat using crochet thread so it fits better :)

Project Name: Christmas Cookies
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: My husband and I made cookies for Christmas. I will be sending some to roler, queenhobo, and my parents... I'm just a little late on sending things out as our car broke down, my insomnia has made me a zombie, and I lost track of time.

We made three kinds of cookies. I got all of the recipes from a baking/murder mystery series by Joanne Fluke. Every book has numerous recipes inside. Most are for cookies as the main character owns a cookie shop, but there are also some recipes for various meals. In fact, I got the cookbook for Christmas. The package got stolen, my mom got a replacement sent, and then the thief returned the package, so I have 2 copies. I was thinking of offering the extra recipe book as a raffle prize. Would anyone be interested in that?
Project Picture:

Molasses Crackles - These turned out great! They are delicious :)

Chocolate Chip Pretzel Cookies - These are perfect for satisfying a sweet and salty craving!

Short Stack Cookies - These are basically sugar cookies with real maple syrup added. They're good, but not great. The baking soda leaves a bitter aftertaste. I have no idea how to adjust for that, because otherwise these would be perfect!

Prompt: January - Hurt/Comfort
Team: Multimedia
Bonus Points: timely
Project Name: Lasagna
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: It is our Christmas tradition to make lasagna for dinner, which is a comfort food for sure. I did actually write down my sauce recipe and how to construct the lasagna, so if I ever get around to writing it up, I'll update for engineering points and I'll be sure to let everyone know I shared a link. I rarely cook, but this is one meal that I've gotten a ton of praise for. I keep it simple (it's just sauce, cheese, and noodles. I don't put meat in mine). I once had to lie to a friend that the lasagna was gone because he ate more than half of it, and we wanted to have leftovers for the next night. When my mother-in-law was still alive, she demanded we leave leftovers for her, or she would hold our Christmas presents hostage. A family friend ate so much that she couldn't get up from her chair due to a lasagna induced food coma. So I'm flattered by their compliments. :) I wish I'd gotten a better photo, but I was too hungry to wait to dig in :p

Project Name: Mr SBC doll
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I asked Mr SBC what he wanted for Christmas, and he said, "Surprise me." I decided to take him literally. I was going to make a doll of him that looked surprised, but in the end I decided to keep him with simple features. His hair is a little lighter on the doll than in real life because I couldn't find a good yarn color for his hair and beard, but I'm super happy with how it came out. He often wears green cargo pants and a grey hoodie (well, he did when we weren't living in AZ where it's normally too warm for a hoodie, though it has been cold this week).

Gozer - I love the necklaces you made. The drawing is great, even with the terrifying creepy crawlies flying around. :)

Smeddley - Thank you! It took me about 7 hours to finish the doll. I got lucky... I decided to modify the foot to look like a shoe because the foot seemed gigantic on its own. It worked out on my first attempt, and I think the shoes turned out perfect! Probably the hardest part was making the hoodie. I didn't follow a pattern, and I frogged it several times before I got it almost right. The front panels were a little too short width wise, so I had to add a few rows along the inner edges to make it close in the front. I used a zippered join to close it, which I also thought looked fun. I wish I'd used a lighter grey to make it look more like a metallic zipper, but he loves how it looks as is. The hood also gave me a few problems, but in the end I got it figured out. A quick YouTube tutorial allowed me to finish the glasses in less than 10 minutes.

bunny1kenobi - Your jewelry looks magnificent, as always! I'm glad things have started to settle down for you. The bride and groom look very happy in the photos you shared. I bet moving during the holiday season was even more stressful than any other time of year. At least the weather was probably more bearable than the 100+ degrees when we moved last April. Mr SBC loved the doll, though I need to add some gauges to his ears. :)

Acadian Driftwood - Thanks for the timely bonus reminder. I had a brain fart. I added my bonus points. :) I love your Nevertheless She Persisted pillow! I have a list of things I'd like to stitch up someday, and that saying is one of them. The spice jars were lovely gifts that I'm sure were greatly appreciated! And those fabric origami cranes... I can't even fold them in paper! Impressive!

craftADDchick - I love the coffee cozies you made. The elastic idea is genius! I'm going to make a few crocheted cozies soon, and this has me thinking it of altering some patterns! The bowl cozies seem like excellent ideas. Can they go in the microwave with the bowl? And the triangle scarf is amazing! Is it super soft?

I'm excited to hopefully post a lot more this calendar year, as I'm finally figuring out some bits of my life that have been getting in the way..! I have some pottery which was just finished, so I'll hopefully be back with my own photos soon, but there are so many great projects posted already!

Storerboughtcreations -- those cookies look delicious! I'm really interested in the chocolate chip pretzel ones. Also, your Mr. SBC doll is super adorable, and I envy your persistence in such an endeavor. I repeatedly discover that maybe fiber arts are not for me...

gozer -- Your bee drawing is beautiful. I love bees so much (I'm trying to figure out if it's feasible to keep a hive on our property, but we might have angry neighbors, which is ironic, since they all want their trees and plants to produce a lot of fruit...). So many things have been making me sad lately, but I digress...
Also, your pendants are super adorable. I love the color scheme!

bunny1kenobi -- Those pendants are beautiful! I love those little flowers and the butterfly.

CraftADDchick -- Oh my gosh, I had no idea about bowl cozies until a colleague gave me some at the end of last school year, and THEY'RE AWESOME! We use them all the time!  That crochet scarf is beautiful!

Acadian Driftwood -- You're inspiring me to do more with herbs -- the bottles are so cute! And ohmygosh, those fabric paper cranes are amazing! I'm sure they're incredibly tedious, but I think the time is worth it for how they turned out!

Storerboughtcreations – I love that hat! I have a little dinosaur lamp in my living room that I wanted to add a Santa hat. That bearded dragon is so cute in the hat you made. I think it’s perfect! And I love the fact that you made the cookies from the book you read. I have seen those books before but am horrible at baking so I have never tried to make any. The molasses one sound amazing. The lasagna looks amazing! Love the fact that it is meatless. That doll of your husband is insane! I know he had to love it! The hair is my favorite part. I remember those little Kiss Me treats from when I was a kid. So much fun.

Bunny1Kenobi – I am loving those necklaces. I love that even though the subject matter is the same, you made each one so unique. I think my favorites are the red one with the sprockets and watch hand and the pink one. I especially like the way it is set below the hart a little. And the fact that it is pink. LOL!

CraftADDchick – Mug Cozies are a necessity in this time of year. These are fantastic and I like that you made them so personal. I spent my weekend making a set of bowl cozies for Bunny1kenobi. After I read your post I realized I should have been using a template for the folded part too. I made my own and it sped up the process. Thank you so much for sharing that tid-bit! Love your bowl cozies too. Again, fantastic gift for this time of year. The shawl you made is very pretty. I got two in that shape last year and love them.

Acadian Driftwood – Very pretty pillow. Great saying and color choices. I really like your bookmarks too. I have been wanting to drop some bookmarks off at the library and those would be a cute design to emulate. Hope you don’t mind if I do that in the future! The herb collection is incredible! I’m very impressed. The fabric cranes are awesome. I can’t do origami at all so just thinking of attempting it in fabric blows my mind.

Brief Description: This is a polymer clay nine-tailed fox and kit sculpture almost three years in the making. I'm so happy it's finally done and I don't have to think about it anymore. XD I started this in May 2016, for my cousin who has been very patient with me. It took a tumble from my desk and had to be repaired, and then set aside when we moved into our new home. And now that I'm done with this one, a new research project proposal:

Research Project Name: The Pathos of Things - Autumn (Mini)
Team: Randomizer
Brief Description: I'm developing a kanzashi/art collection called The Pathos of Things, which follows the themes of seasonality and transience. This is my first foray into combining canvas paintings with removable kanzashi accessories. I'm starting with a miniature piece to test the concept out. There are, essentially, three sections for this project. First, the canvas which is painted to look like a black and gold lacquerware and will have styrofoam inserted into the back for the kanzashi fork to stick into. Second, the removable kanzashi, which will be fall themed. The kanzashi will feature a cicada that has a wire & resin body and iridescent wings. Third, the tsumamicraft flowers that are adhered to the canvas itself and disguise the place where the fork gets slide into the canvas.

I've prepped the canvas, painted it black, and painted on the gold design but I haven't added the foam insert or sealed the canvas yet. I have also started on some of the tsumami craft removable accessory, but I'm nowhere near done with it. Here's to hoping I finish before jurying for the local craft show in mid-February. XD I need to finish this piece and at least one more.

Or, for me, when the weather is under freezing!  It's super cold here right now and everyone at work has been using the microwaves because they want something warm on such cold days. I was telling a friend I needed to make a bowl cozy for another friend for her birthday and two of my co-workers asked me to make them one as well. They are sweet ladies so I agreed. This should keep them warmer and if they use chicken noodle soup, hopefully from getting the dreaded cold. Also, I got that awesome handmade tie dye fern fabric from LeapFeetFirst who got it in a swap from sloth003. Just wanted to give credit. I love that fabric and am excited that I will get to see it everyday (at least in the winter).

Appledainty – I love the idea of a New Years portrait. You look like you were having a good time. The Bridal Kanzashi set is absolutely stunning! I bet it looked amazing on the bride. The petals going down to the bells look like upside down hearts. Your sculpture is fantastic too. I am sure your cousin was very happy. The new technique resin flower is beautiful. Love the translucent looks of it!

Madcrafter – the bracelet is beautiful! I love the colors you used. The Scherenschnitte is very cool too. I would never have the patience or talent for that. Don’t forget to claim your TIMELY bonus points! Also, if you post it up on the boards so you can get Community points. It’s very pretty. You should let the rest of Craftster see it too!

Arcadian Driftwood – I agree with LBBB, the fabric is beautiful. It works great for the mat bag. I love the way you did the drawstring! It’s very clean and professional looking.

gozer I am so impressed by your drawing and coloring skills. I haven't taken an art class since I was 12 years old. I wish I'd taken a few in college. My drawing forte is stick people :p Your bowl cozies use such fun fabric. They all look great! It's been cooler in AZ lately, which has been feeling great! It was 102F warmer here than it was in Fairbanks, AK the other day where my parents live. It was a wonderful 60 here, and -42 there. I'd much rather have our current weather. :)

appledainty I am also impressed by your drawing skills. Your self portrait looks great! What I saw of your blue cherry blossoms as I quickly scrolled past the butterflies is very pretty! Is that bead work? Your Nine-Tailed Kitsune & Kit Sculpture turned out lovely! I hope your cousin loves it, and I'm glad you were able to repair it after it fell! Congratulations on finishing the first research project of the 2019 season! The resin flowers you made look so real! I love it!

madcrafter That bracelet is amazing! You hand cut the entire tea for two project? WOW! It turned out great!

Acadian Driftwood The fabric you used is gorgeous! And kudos to you for learning how to use the buttonhole maker on your machine. I haven't tried that function yet. Maybe I'll watch a few YouTube videos and try a simple project soon.

I decided that for my New Year's resolution, I would try to comment more on projects everyone submits. I am notoriously bad at it, so I'm trying really hard to remember to stop in and leave a few words. So far so good, but we're only about 1/24 through the 2019 season, so we'll see if I can keep this up. :p

storerboughtcreations - Adorable little hat!  I love it.  Delicious looking food, and that doll is AWESOME!  Is the Santa ornament made with plastic canvas?  I have such a soft spot for those types of ornaments.

craftADDchick - Excellent coffee cozies.  That shawl is really beautiful, and I love all of those bowl holders.

Acadian Driftwood - That persist pillow is fantastic.  Love those spice collections, what a good idea!  Those book marks are super cool, and the fabric cranes are wonderful.  Another cute idea!  I love that yoga mat bag!  Pretty fabric.

appledainty - That self portrait is awesome!  Beautiful jewelry, and love that prompt interpretation!  Fantastic poly clay and resin work!  Wow!  Cool!

madcrafter - Super cool bracelet!  I've done a lot of kumihimo, but never with metal.  It looks awesome!  Beautiful paper cutting as well.

Hey, friends!  It has been a while since I have posted projects.  Life has been really hard and non-stop stress for quite a while.  A few things are going to be easing up in the next 4-5 months, so I'm hoping that I'll have more time to be around again, and be active!

In the meantime, I have some projects from the end of the year to post.  I put together another gift buffet for the holidays (actually, two of them!), and crafted a bunch of things.  I drafted to my mom to help with some of it, as I knew there was no way I was going to have enough time to finish everything on my own.  All of the things I'm submitting I crafted myself, or did more than 30 minutes of work on.

SORRY ABOUT THE BAD PHOTOS!

Prompt:  January - Coffee Shop AU

Project Name:  Notebook covers
Brief Description:  Yes, more notebook covers.  It's good to be back. :P  Several of these went to various retail workers.  I'm splitting them half and half for this and the next prompt.

Project Name:  Junk Journals
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description:  I'm going to use half of these for this prompt, and half for the Battle Royale, even though I only got one photo of them all together.  These are a bunch of different junk journals, all comprised of lots of random things and techniques that don't normally go together, such as sewing and papercrafting.  Even though junk journals are one of my favorite things to make, they take a really long time.  My mom did a lot of the work on these (I did some of the page embellishments - sewing edges, adding rub-ons, making paperclips, etc., and helped with assembly and binding).  That is why I am submitting them as two groups instead of individually as Big Time projects! :)

Project Name:  Candles
Brief Description:  I made soy wax candles again this year.  I went with black jars, which I really love.  I also designed the labels.  They are scented, but not colored.  The scents I did this time were "Fraser Fir" (everyone's fave), "Citrus Cylcone," "Remedy" (which is an amber/tea tree kind of scent), and "Clean Cotton."  I also tried out wooden wicks.  I like them, but I'm waiting to hear the verdict from other people.

Bonus Points: Brain Power, Timely
Project Name: DIY Bar Cart
Brief Description: I have an antique (made between 1840-1860) cabinet that I inherited from a friend who passed away a couple years ago. My husband isn't fond of antiques or things that look old/worn, but I wanted to give this piece of furniture a special place and purpose because it means a lot to me; it gives me comfort knowing it has a purpose and is being used well. When I started planning out the living space in our new home, I thought it might be nice to have a bar cart. We're not big drinkers, but I use wine in cooking and my husband wanted to get a bottle of scotch and some glasses; I think everything needs a place, and our kitchen is small, so a bar cart makes more sense than trying to cram everything in our limited cabinet space. Instead of buying a bar cart, we took a piece of leftover countertop (we installed ikea butcherblock countertops last month), cut it to size, and I applied a piece of faux wood contact paper to the raw board edges (the butcherblock is a veneer; not wood all the way through).

I disguised the fake-ness of the contact paper with some gold wax paint, which matches a the gold wax paint we've used in a bunch of other places in the house and the brass/gold tone wine rack I bought. My husband put some casters on the bottom, and voila - we had a cart for the cabinet to go on. I researched the best way to care for antique wood pieces, and decided to give the cabinet a good clean and a coat of wax sealer to protect it. The last thing I did was add some antique-looking wrought iron handles to the sides, to serve as towel bars. This probably ruined the value of the piece, but it's not like I'm ever going to sell it. XD

gozer OMG! That cat purse is AMAZING!

LovelyMiss It's great seeing you again! To answer your question, the kissing Santa is made from plastic canvas.

I love seeing the notebook covers you make. I love the TARDIS one you sent me. Is making soap hard to do? I've never tried it. My skin is becoming more and more sensitive lately, so maybe I should try making some simple soaps that won't make my hands break out in hives. I love your rice packs. I use the one you gave me all the time! One of these days I'll have to try a junk journal, because I adore the look of them. Your crocheted scarves turned out excellent, and I love your button choices. Your bag holders look very practical and pretty. We reuse all of our grocery bags for one thing or another. The fabrics on your pillows are so fun and colorful. I love the galaxy print hiding in the back. How well does the wooden wick work (wow, say that three times fast!)? Does it burn slow enough that the wax doesn't extinguish the flame? And last but not least, your hand towels are great!

appledainty WOW! I love that bar cart! It looks amazing! Don't forget your timely points, and send me a quick PM when you add them! :)

madcrafter What a colorful and terrifying throwback! I can't do creepy crawlies. I have yet to see a scorpion since moving to the Sonoran Desert, and I hope to keep it that way. If I found one in my house, I'd be one of those people you hear about on the new that set their house on fire to get rid of it. I bet your basket went over well at the fundraiser!

Brief Description: I finished painting, wallpapering, and adding organizational features to my kitchen island. :) This was the first project I ever did wallpaper for, which helped me a lot when I installed the beadboard wallpaper and chair rail in our living space (our kitchen, dining, and living space is all on open on the main level).

There were a lot of tears when I had to sand and repaint after the first can of sealer was contaminated with black specks and we ended up with black specks all over the sides of the island. But I think that prepared me for when I had to strip off the first fully painted pieces of wallpaper from the back of the island after the wallpaper failed to adhere properly. It was a pain doing the wallpaper again, but no tears - just determination to do it right. The painting ended up looking a lot cleaner and better.

Figuring out the best way to organize our island was a brain taxing, but fun! And it gave me the confidence to move forward with doing up the rest of our cabinets.

Now that this one's done, time for another right? XD

Research Project Name: The Pathos of Things - Spring (Mini)

Brief Description: This is the second of my miniature canvas + kanzashi pieces. It's going to be cherry blossom themed. I've just started doing layers of gesso on the canvas. I'm planning on making the canvas look a bit like shoji paper, with threads running through it. I want to paint the canvas with cherry blossom branches to look like a sumi-e painting, but with a 3 dimensional aspect created with wire, hardened molding paste, maybe embroidery thread, and silver leaf.

Hello, everyone!  Sorry it's been so long, but it's so great to see everyone still posting awesome projects!  I have been super stressed and burned out lately, and really haven't crafted much for the last year at all, but I'm trying to fix that!  Here are a couple of projects to get another member for Team Multimedia on the board! :)

Prompt: Drabble
Team: Multimedia
Bonus Points: Timely
Project Name: Korean Keychain
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: I crafted this at Incheon Airport in Seoul. There's a wonderful culture center there that always has free arts and crafts for anyone with a non-Korean passport, and it's FREE!!  I always stop by and do the crafts whenever I have a long enough layover, and that's definitely one of the reasons this is my favorite airport in the world!  This time I got to make a mother-of-pearl keychain. They provided all the materials including the keychain itself, and I used a toothpick and clear nail polish to apply all the little bitty shell bits.  So fun!
Project Picture:

Prompt: Big Time #1
Team: Multimedia
Bonus Points:
Project Name: Sho Uchiwa
Project Link:
Brief Description: Here's another of my silly light-up uchiwa!  For anyone who hasn't seen my previous posts about these, uchiwa are stiff paper fans, and at many Japanese pop concerts, fans bring fans with the names/faces of their favorite members so the stars know which fans are there for them specifically!  My friends and I have really upped our uchiwa game over the years and now make battery powered ones that actually light up!  This one probably took about eight hours or so; it's a LOT of work.  But I'm pretty sure Sho saw it at the Arashi concert!

Prompt: Big Time
Team: Multimedia
Bonus Points: WIP it
Project Name: pink, grey, and black chevron blanket
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: this blanket probably took me about 8 hours from start to finish. I started this several months ago and then set it aside. I decided I would try to finish a few of my WIPs before starting anything new. Over the last two days, I finished the final stripes (each color stripe is 8 rows of double crochet) of black, pink, grey, and the last black, then wove in all of the ends. The pink I used in this blanket is part of the 55 skeins of yarn roler's mom sent me over the summer. <3

Before I comment on some projects, a friendly reminder! Please be sure that you include the month as well as the prompt title when posting. This will be even more important after January ends and the new prompts are posted if you want to receive points/credit for turning in projects.

appledainty Wow! A second research project already done this year?! Congratulations! The island turned out great!

madcrafter I am amazed at how clean your cut lines are. Maybe it's because I am the most impatient person I know, but my lines would never look that nice. I love that cat! The fairies are super fun, too. Did you cut out the doily piece by piece, or did you fold it and create mirror cuts? If you want to go back and add timely bonus points to your post, please send me a quick message to let me know you've done so so that I can update your points. :)

roler Hi bestie! Glad to see you around again! I love that keychain. It's so much fun! Is this something that would be easy enough to buy supplies for and create more fun stuff, such as jewelry? I love that you take the time to not only make the fan for your concerts, but that you take the time to make them light up. I bet you stand out in the crowd!

LovelyMiss – Oh my goodness you were busy! Wow! I always love your notebook covers. I have issues with collecting and needing more notebooks all the time. I love seeing all the different fabrics that you use. Handmade soap sounds awesome. I have been trying to use less chemicals and started buying goats milk soap. I love the idea of the charcoal! I have several rice packs at my house and at work. Those things are so useful! Again, love looking at all the fabrics you pick. Do you buy fabric specifically for these projects or do you use stash? The junk journals looks amazing and like they would really get the creative juices flowing. I think they deserve a place on the Craftster boards! The scarves are beautiful. I love that purple one in the center. Every cat owner needs a plastic bag holder! They should give them out at the shelters when you adopt one (or two)! I have to make pillow covers next month. I bought new furniture and wasn’t crazy about the pillows it come with. For some reason this project makes me nervous. Yours look incredible. I love the space one in the back and the octopus one best. Soy candles are so neat. Everyone loves a candle. I like all the different aromas you provided. The hand towels look amazing. Again, do you buy the towels in bulk? I have some of that flower fabric in the back in my scrap bin. My mom asked for a card wallet with it. Jealous of the dinos! I really love the idea of a gift buffet for co-workers. It’s such a sweet idea! I’m sure everyone always looks forward to it.

Appledainty – Awesome use of the antique cabinet. I think it turned out rather neat looking and I live the wine holder on top. Looks like all your hard work was a success on your kitchen island. It looks so clean, fresh and bright. I bet it’s the star of your kitchen. Love the print you chose!

Madcrafter – I love that scorpion! It is so freakin’ cool! Love, love, love it! You should make more! Those papercuts are amazing! I would go insane and end up crying. I don’t have that kind of patience. They are stunning! My fav is the two mirrored fairies holding hearts.

Storerboughtcreations – All your little crochet animals are so cute! Love that first hippos expression/stance. He looks no-nonsense. The giraffe looks pleased with herself. Cute horse and fun monkey. I absolutely adore the tiny 9 monkey! I need a little monkey to hang out on my sewing machine and keep me company! And the tiny giraffe, your killing me! Too cute. Adorable bunny, squirrel and cat.  I love the colors of the chevron blanket.

Roler – there you are! I was getting worried! That keychain is so cool. I can’t believe the airport just lets you do that for free! How cool. No wonder its your favorite airport. It’s mine too and I have never been to it! Your uchiwa looks very professional.

Team: multimedia
Bonus Points: WIP It, Brain Power, community, timely
Project Name: snoopy with Red Baron fighting costume
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=457221.0
Brief Description: I started crocheting this Snoopy doll about four months ago and never finished making his legs, feet, and tail. After I finished those bits yesterday, I decided he needed the proper attire to fight the Red Baron. I free handed the hat, goggles, and scarf. This fits the crossover side of the battle because I decided to cross in some knitting with all of the crochet. The red scarf is knit. I love how he turned out!

appledainty - The bar cart looks great!  Such a cool style.  Good idea with the wax paint!  Beautiful kitchen!  Way to go finishing a Research Project.  I look forward to seeing the next one!

madcrafter - Super cool scorpion!  So unique.  Beautiful paper cuts as well!

storerboughtcreations - Awe!  That's such a great first project!  Wow!  Adorable hippos, bunny, and enormous giraffe!  :D  I love his sweet little face.  You have so much skill with the amis!  Very gorgeous blanket.  Love how Snoopy turned out, too!

roler - That keychain is so cool!  That sounds like an awesome airport.  Another amazing uchiwa, too!

gozer - I usually do rebatch soap, which is cold process soap that is remelted.  It gives a more rustic look to the bar, but it is easier for me than needing to deal with the lye directly.  I'd like to try cold process in the future when I have more space and time.  I buy the rebatch base from Brambleberry.  Everyone likes it. My only complaint is that it has a small amount of palm oil, which is not environmentally friendly at all.  I rarely buy fabrics with a purpose!  :D  It's all just stash that I pull out for projects as I need it.  I am really picky about the towels that I use, so I wait until they're on sale and can stack a coupon.  They don't come in bulk, but I end up buying them in bulk, haha.

QueenHobo Thank you for the idea of a craft crossover. I love your battle project. Beast Jr is adorable in her sweater and hat. Did your head shrink, or is that a larger donut than you normally make?  ;D I could have never bought that car... I can't believe he never found a way to get the yellow jacket out. But I'm glad that KingHobo appreciated it (should we call him that, or should we call him PrinceHobo so he doesn't get an inflated sense of ego?). I bet your nephew was adorable in his elf hat. Beast Jr sure is. I can't believe a hat that fits on your head will fit him. He's too young to have a head that large. The sonic screwdriver is great.

I love the photo of Grumpy Frog and Grandpa with his blanket. I know Grandpa loved and appreciated it, and I'm sorry he only got to enjoy it for a few days. I know you worked hard to finish it as fast you could, and it turned out great. Beast Jr looks so happy in her turkey dress. I'm glad it worked out. The color combos are great (probably because I helped you choose :p).

The TARDIS cowl is so pretty. I like that you used beads instead of trying to do those tiny color changes. It looks great! The dragon for your nephew is fun and colorful. I know that Grumpy Frog kept trying to steal it while you were working on it, so I'm glad to hear it made it to its intended recipient :) Grumpy Frog may need a name change. She doesn't look so grumpy anymore, especially in her pretty poncho! The hat for your BIL is a nice color. The hat for your SIL is perfect. It fits her personality well I think.

Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful projects. Now please finish my sloth blanket so I can use it when I visit you in a little over 3 weeks. I will be freezing and will probably have that thing with me at all times! You should bring it with you when you pick us up from the airport :D

That Grinch sweater is pretty amazing. Beast Jr. looks thrilled to have it!

I believe that since I completed two research projects in January that I should qualify for a fourth research project slot, so I'm going to propose this one:

Research Project Name: The Dawnflower's Trousseau
Team: Randomizer
Brief Description: Second part of my Vox Machina Reliquary project. I'm making a resin and silk tsumami craft hair comb on the theme of Pike & Scanlan's wedding, which was part of the epilogue of Critical Role, Campaign 1. Ashley Johnson (who plays Pike) just got engaged, and since these are gifts for the cast, I thought it would be fun to do this as a wedding gift. I also want to do a bridal portrait drawing of Pike, and an embroidered handkerchief, since bridal trousseau generally contain linens.

I did start on the resin flower petals, but I won't be finishing for a while. I'm waiting on a few materials to come in, and I haven't quite finalized the design. I haven't started on the handkerchief or portrait at all.

Research Project Name: Sisters living room redo
Team: Wordy!
Brief Description: I am helping my sister redo her living room. It's turning into more work than I anticipated so I am going to make it into a Research Project since a lot of my time will be helping her. We are painting her curtain cornices with fabric paint (two coats) and painting her entire huge room. Also, I am going to be pinch pleating 6 panels of curtains.

PS. I have almost completed the research project on my storage room, I just need to find the before pictures. Pretty sure they are on the Craftster photo sharing so I should be turning that in soon hopefully.

Brief Description: Took a little less than three weeks, but definitely more than 20 hours since I proposed it; I have deadlines coming up, so I've been dedicating a lot less time to games and a lot more time to art. Time well spent, I think. This piece features my first attempt at using holofilm, which I used on the cicada's wings. It's also my first attempt at creating lacquer-ware effect on canvas, applying tsumami craft to canvas, and the fist time I've done any kind of painting for the better part of a decade. Phew!

gozer the mushroom fabric is so gooooood where did you get it please?? And thanks for the comment!

LM, I love the fabrics you chose for the pillowcases and the whole gift buffet looks very inviting! And thanks for the comments!

madcrafter that scorpion is super cool! I would display that in my house for sure.

roler, great to have you back! Beautiful work on the keychain, what a fun thing to have a craft station at the airport.

QH, the little bee is darling!

apple, I'm excited to see your next Critical Role project! I've been catching up slowly on campaign 2 as I craft, and I saw some of your art during the break! The autumn canvas is incredible, I'm going to have to comment on the main post too.

Okay, so I've been a little MIA - work has a Garmin fitness/step challenge going, so my whole life is walking now... but I wanted to catch up and comment on a few things before I try to post SOMETHING before the end of the month!

bunny1kenobi - Loving all the jewelry!

craftADDchick - I love the bowl cozies, I really need to try to make those... I keep saying that, maybe one of these days!

Acadian Driftwood - I so want to try fabric cranes again!  I only did it once, and felt was NOT the fabric to use.  Yours are gorgeous!

gozer - *sigh* Your art is amazing!  And your handbags.

appledainty - Wow, that sculpture!  Totally worth the time it took!  And the resin flower is beautiful.

madcrafter - Ooooh, wire and Kumihimo, I like it!  And that beaded/wire scorpion is amazing.

LovelyMiss - Of course I love the notebook covers, but I may be biased as I have a few... :)  And the rice bags and bag holders... not gonna lie, I covet those, as well!

storerboughtcreations - You know your amigurumi is so near and dear to my heart, I adore all of your creations!  So. Cute.

roler - that keychain is amazing!  And I'm always impressed with your light-up fans, they're not silly at all!

QueenHobo - Okay, that sweater... wow. Wow. Wow. WOW.  I love it!  The dragon scarf and turkey dress are amazing, but I seriously covet the Grinch sweater.  Pretty sure it wouldn't fit me, though... ;)

Tanath - Oooh, I like the heart rings, those are cute!

Hopefully I'll get a post in soon to try to get SOME timely points! :D

appledainty You are on a roll with these research projects! You have unlocked your fourth spot. :)

gozer Your fungi projects are neat! I bet your swap partner loved them! The towel is my favorite :)

Acadian Driftwood I like the new headphone look. Does it help keep the cords from tangling? Your embroidery is so pretty. How do you transfer the outlining to the fabric? Or did you free hand it?

Tanath Welcome back! That math tree seems like a fun and engaging way to get kids into math. I hope your cookies turn out better next time. And those rings are awesome!

madcrafter I love the swap project. I don't want to say too much as I'm assuming you didn't show the photos because the recipient hasn't seen these yet, but I love the colors you used.

Smeddley Thank you for your kind words! Your cookie battle is hilarious and cute! Your blood drops are always fun. I love your collage look. And it was sweet of you to make your LV feel safe.

In one week I get to see QueenHobo, and I can’t wait!

apple, thanks for the comment!

Tanath, your heart rings are lovely! I think the two silver designs on the right looks great.

madc, the valentine is gorgeous! All the little bits combine so well. And the embroidered chair is so lovely!

Smedd, thanks for the comment! Oh my gosh, felt would be so hard to fold up. Being able to iron creases really helps! The blood drops are super cute, and the lobster safety vest made my day. Love it!

sbc, thanks for the comments! The headphone cords tangle MUCH less now, and if they do it's easier to untangle. And to transfer the embroidery pattern - if I have it on my computer like I do this one, I turn my screen brightness up all the way and just lay my fabric on the screen to trace! Usually using a dark pencil or light pen that won't bleed through. Your Pacman arcade game looks fantastic! And those sloths just darling.

roler, awesome job on the controller! You may have inspired a future gift for my partner. :)

Project Name: Cornice painting
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: My sister moved into my Grandparents house when they passed away and my Grandma was obsessed with pink. There entire living room was pink. The walls, the carpet, the curtains, the cornices. My sister had painted the walls years ago but she didn’t know what to do with the cornices since they were secured into the plaster walls and her husband liked them. For Christmas I bought her several bottles of different types of fabric paint and we settled on one and I mixed up the paint and we painted her cornices. It took three coats and they stayed on the walls. Our arms were killing us! But I think they turned out really well. Before and After pictures and the small one was before we started the second coat.
Like Michelangelo, we had to paint them while they were on the walls.

Sorry for being absent on here. I am trying to keep up with the prompts but I haven’t kept up with commenting. I am going to go back to page 7 and start from there. Sorry if I missed you. I have enjoyed looking at all the projects. I just haven’t had as much time.
Also, can I please delete my sisters living room as a Research Project? I helped her do the Cornices and then she took off work and finished the rest of it so I didn’t put as much time into it as I planned. Thanks!

Appledainty – Pathos of Things Autumn is really pretty. The cicada is wonderful. I like your new techniques! The Pathos of Things – Spring is even more beautiful. Your best work yet! Love the colors and soft tones.

Acadian Driftwood – The headphone revamp looks impossible to me. A couple years ago I went thru a phase where I really wanted to make friendship bracelets. I tried and tried and well, you never saw any posted for a reason. I absolutely sucked at them. The headphones are mind blowing to me and I love that you did the 1” markers. So smart! Your bracelet is perfect too! Every stitch looks great. I am in awe. The Moth is beautiful too! Was it hand embroidered or by machine? It looks amazing. The January embroidery is stunning. Reminds me of a quilt my Nana made for my parents. I would always stare at it. I love the contrasting colors on the February one. The knob extenders are such a neat idea. Love the blocks! And what a fun little guy to run into while on a walk.

Tanath – Love the mash up of the holidays and religion for the tree. Hope your daughter got a good grade. I gave up coffee over a year ago and STILL crave it. Those cookie would have been amazing to me no matter what you say. Sandy coffee? Bring it on! LOL! The ring is very cute. I did bead work once. That would have taken me 5 hours easy. Ha! You must be a pro! My favorite silver ring is the top on your ring finger.

Madcrafter – Very pretty embroidered heart. Cool bag to go with it too. Those mice are adorable. They would be cute in a Christmas setting. Lovely chair.

Smeddley – the fighting cookies are hilarious! Love the idea and you have a great sense of humor! Love your blood drops too. You’ve really made them your own with all the customizing.  Love the artwork. It’s so serine and beautiful! Lovely shading. Everyone can use a re-usable shopping bag. That fabric is marvelous. Hilarious safety vest. Love it! Super cool little arcade. Love your drawings for the badges! I like the guy the best. His face is precious.

Storerboughtcreations – The Pac-man arcade is so cool! Great memories too. Did you make up the pattern? It rocks. Love the Tetris heart. My sister has the arcade game in her house. We had to turn off the music because every time it would sing out one of us would walk over and start mindlessly playing. Ha! Never heard of the game Binding of Isaac but your character is cute, even if he is crying. That is a very fun luggage tag too! Very sweet of you to make the trivets too. They look retro and cool. Your sloths are insanely cute. I love that you put them on the blanket. They work perfectly. Looks like they are hanging out in the trees.

Roler – the controller magnet is really cool. Any gamer would adore it!

QueenHobo – That shawl is so pretty. I really like the stitches that you used. Your Raggedy Ann doll is precious and looks like she is going to be well loved. I love unicorns so that little blanket is amazing. Love the colors you used too. I’ve never used baby oil with oil pastels before. It’s been so long since I have used oil pastels. I think you did a great job. Love the variegated color of that blanket. Is it considered variegated if it’s one color in different shades? I don’t know, but I love it.

Prompt: April - Poliwog/Translucent Tadpoles
Team: Multimedia
Bonus Points: Timely, Brain Power
Project Name: Mini Tatami
Project Link:
Brief Description: I went to a workshop in Nara to learn about tatami making!  First we learned how real tatami are made and how they were handsewn in the past, and then we got to make our own mini tatami!  I plan to use mine as a photo frame, because you can stick pushpins in it and take them back out and they don't leave visible holes, so I can swap out various photos whenever I feel like it.  We got to choose the material for the edges, and I picked the distinctive dragonfly pattern.  Supposedly this pattern was often chosen by samurai because dragonflies can't fly backward, only forward.

Brief Description: I went to another workshop in Kyoto, this time to make Japanese sweets!  We learned how to make several different types. I was especially pleased with how prettily my sakura shaped one turned out!

Project Name: craftylittlemonkey Fabric Bead
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: At the fabulous Craftster Meetup (The Asheville Adventure), craftylittlemonkey offered a workshop on making her amazing fabric beads, and I was lucky enough to land a spot :) I only made one bead in the time that we had (it took me the entire hour), but I definitely plan to make more! Plus, it's the perfect excuse to save every.little.scrap.  This fits the prompt because Drowzee is half yellow and half grey, and these beads can be made by mixing a variety of fabrics, ribbon, beads, and embroidery to make something unique!

Project Picture:

Here (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=451156.0) is the link to craftylittlemonkey's tutorial! You should try it out- it's so much fun. And, it would make a great travel project, too!

Smeddley, I love all of your drawings. When I was 13 or so, my mom found an electric hot plate (I think that’s what you’d call it... it was like a little lap tray sized table. You plug it in and it keeps your food warm as you eat), and rather than use it for food, we’d put paper down on it and use crayons to draw/color. They melted nicely, and made some fun projects. Maybe you could try something like that for a smoother color?

storerboughtcreations, thanks!  I have tried some melty crayon art (you totally have to use Crayola for that, the other brands are too much wax and too little color!) and I do think that's what I'm going to try to use up the crayons with... or do more classic paintings in crayon - it was fun and relaxing!  Dali's clocks, The Scream, Water Lilies...  :D

Prompt: May - Battle - *NSYNC
Team: multimedia
Bonus Points: timely, WIP It
Project Name: Lyon the lion
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I was intending to make this for my soon to arrive niece, but it has too many small choking hazards (all the hair pieces I attached could come off). So I think I’ll send it along for big sister as her birthday present. I started this almost five months ago and then left it. All I had left to do was make one more leg, the tail, and attach the over 500 strands for the mane.

I went with *NSYNC because I used to love them (in fact, they were the first concert I ever went to when I was 16), and because Justin Timberlake sometimes had a little fro going, just like my lion.

...I've been gone so long the nerd battles are now a yearly thing!~ Very cool.

I've just spent the last hour or so going through the projects posted so far, and they are all spectacular. I really should have taken notes to gush about everything, but didn't think to until the last few projects, my bad.

I have to say, Smeddly - that is the cutest lil Nazgul I've ever seen!~  :D Your art is wonderful.

Greybird, your little birds are so darling! So much personality. And I didn't know there was such a thing as metallic watercolours.

Appledainty, just  :o :o :o I can't believe that's resin!~

Storerboughtcreations, your lion is adorable. I so admire people who can bend yarn to their will -- did you follow a pattern, or make it up by yourself? I've not seen one like it before; the shape of it is utter perfection!

Life got very life-y, this year, I have been stuck in WIP land. But I'm hoping to use the NB to push me through finishing things, and always enjoy seeing how other people's brains interpret the same prompts~.

Hey all! I haven’t been commenting in a while. Sorry about that. My co-worker left and they didn’t replace him so I have double the work to do. It’s harder to get on here as much. But I have been lurking. At home my cat is very sick and on daily meds so it's hectic there too. I went back to page 11 to start my commenting. Sorry to anyone I missed!

Appledainty-  The Butterfly clip is very pretty. I like the soft colors. Love the swirl of color on the burgundy hairclip, and the piece in the middle is perfect. The Comb looks so ornamental. All those tiny petals! Insane. The cherry blossom hair pin is absolutely stunning.

Acadian Driftwood – The BFF hoopla is so cool. Did you design it or have a reference? I think it is so sweet. BFF’s are so great and I love that you made sure yours knows how important she is. The Mug rug is awesome. I LOVE the colors and the style. They go together so well. The shrine is really neat. My favorite part is the pine cones on the top. They just look so perfect there. Ah, I need to make some of those calendar bags. For one thing, I am always in need of a gift bag. Second, I hate throwing away calendars. Perfect craft for me. You had some amazing calendars! Love the monthly embroideries. The Spring hoop is very pretty too. All those tiny stitches. I would go insane! Mmmm on the scones. They look yummy.

Smeddley – Those dice trays are so clever. I bet they were a huge hit (pun? I’m not sure). Love the ducks playing basketball. Way to rally the troops with cuteness. Speaking of cuteness, those monsters are adorable! What adorable motivators. Wonderful drawing of the Old Man Willow. Great expression. The mushrooms and starry night are great too. Cute crayon monster. The Black rider is by far my favorite though. I love a sleep mask. I made a bunch a couple years ago and still sue them. I like the top batik fabric that you used. Awesome motivational buttons. Love all the Mer-may sketches you did. I like that you switched them up with poses and styles. The bat is absolutely adorable and my favorite. The fox and unicorn are cute too. Love the background variation of the sword drawing. The pony is awesome! I like that you let us see the progression of the Midge art too. The shading is much better on the second one. Proves practice does make perfect. Your ATC’s are very pretty.

Roler – Turniphead hoopla is fantastic. I even love the background you chose. Your Tatami mat turned out great and I love the tidbit about samurai and dragonflies. Your sweets look too good to eat. Where they tasty too? The diptych is very cool. Did you hang it up? I like the dragonfly touches.

Storerboughtcreations -  I squealed a little when I saw the mermaid tail & top. So stinkin’ cute! Love the colors of it too. That is going to be one spoiled and lucky niece. The dresses are beautiful too. The lion is incredible and it’s nice that you made something for the big sister.

Greybird – Your sleepy birds are amazing! I absolutely love them and would love to trade some ATC’s with you! I think your birds are my favorite ones but they are all really good. Your coins are cool too. Did you join for rd 3? I especially love the triptych ones. The matching chopstick bags are so neatly done and I love the fabric choice. Neat tassels. I have a kit to make one of those, I need to give it a try. Lovely hat. That dream journal looks like a labor of love! So many pages. Pretty bracelets and cute little note cards. Adventure book is amazing and the two headed crow is incredible! I love him! The chain mail pouch is very cool.

CraftADDchick – The fabric bead is so detailed and cool. What are you using it for? Looks like a great size for a zipper pull.

Ok...I'm gonna give it a try, and post a project I completed a few months back.  Did I understand this right, that even though I made the project before the prompt was available, since I am posting it for the prompt, it is "timely" and I already had it's own post so "participation?" If I need to change something, let me know what needs to be done differently.  I claim team Multimedia.  And, sorry the picture is sideways.

I have projects to post! Finally!!

Prompt:  February- Wii vs Gameboy
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Community
Project Name: Cupcake Yarn Crocheted Hat
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458856.0
Brief Description: This yarn is packaged in a novelty style. It's a mini version of the trendy "cake" yarns, and it's topped off with a pompom. It comes with a pattern for a hat, so that's what I made. It's self-striping, and the color changes are a little more visible than I expected, but it's a hat, not a fancy garment, so I can live with it. I attached the pompom with the strings it was connected to the yarn with, but it's a little wobbly. Any tips on how to attach it more securely?

Summer CYOA-Scavenger Hunt Item:  Something for Children

Project Picture:

Here's what the yarn looks like (although this is a different colorway) when it's packaged up.

Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Brianpower, Community
Project Name: Dot Painted Rocks
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458857.0
Brief Description: When my mom came up from FL for the summer, she wanted to paint some mandala style rocks to decorate her new campsite. My mom, SIL, and I got together to give it a try. We used some dot painting tools, and it took a while to get the hang of it. These are small river rocks (each fits in the palm of my hand). Mine is the 3rd one from the left. I'm definitely glad we practiced on something small! Those early game systems had graphics made with tiny dots of color, and are also very primitive compared to the graphics of today!

Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Community
Project Name: Boston Sports Reversible Microwave Bowl Cozy
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458858.0
Brief Description: Love it or hate it, Boston has had a remarkable run of championship teams. When we did our Secret Santa for school, I didn't love what I made for my partner, so I made this and gave it to her right before school ended. She's a huge sports fan. I didn't have large enough scraps to make each side with just the team fabric, so I made a patched square for each side. I even used matching thread for each side.

Craft the Alphabet- Letters B & C

Project Picture:

Prompt: March- Lamassus
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Community, Brain Power, EPIC!
Project Name: JoAnn Spring Mystery CAL Crochet Afghan
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458859.0
Brief Description: This was the spring Mystery CAL from JoAnn Fabrics (with Caron and the Crochet Crowd). I did pretty well getting the first week's squares made on time (only a day late), but then the rest of them took me much (much) longer. To make the flowered squares, I made the group of flowers first, then crocheted the square around it. The white flowers are puff stitch (which always takes me longer because you have to take out the hook to make the puff), and the variegated flowers are a 3-D flower that uses the front and back loops to get the 3-D effect. It's a very tactile blanket. I learned a new joining method, which was pretty easy. This took me well over 45 hours, between the stitching and the weaving of the tails, because I am not a speed crocheter. But, I am pretty proud of myself because this is the first afghan I've ever finished that is 100% from a pattern- start to finish! And, it's actually finished!

Summer CYOA- Something Confusing (the last round of the border is made with backwards single crochet, and the directions for the 3D variegated flowers were a little confusing, at first)

Project Picture:
It's pictured on top of my queen-sized bed, to give you a sense of size. It's a perfect size for sitting in a chair and reading!

Prompt:  April-Caterpie/Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Caterpillar
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Community, Brainpower
Project Name: Blown Glass Silver Leaf Tumbler
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458860.0
Brief Description: I'm always amazed by how a blob of molten glass can be transformed into something completely different! Back in February, a couple of friends and I signed up for a class to make a tumbler with silver leaf, which I've never done before. Just by luck, the silver leaf attached to my cup at a slight angle, which gave it a nice design. And, I was able to slightly flare the top to give the glass a little bit of shaping. It's about 6" tall, and I just love how it came out!

Project Picture:

Prompt:  Zap #1
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: n/a
Project Name: Small Blown Glass Paperweight
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: In the glass blowing glass I took (see above), we had some extra time, so we got to make a paperweight. However, this is a pretty small paperweight (the instructor gathered the glass mostly on the punty, so a lot of the glass was wasted). It's about a 1.5" tall, and less than 2" wide. But, it's cute and I like the colors!

Project Picture:
(see above photo)

Prompt:  April-Poliwog/Translucent Tadpoles
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Brainpower, Community
Project Name: Small Batch Canning- Lavender Lemonade Concentrate and Caramelized Meyer Lemon Syrup
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458861.0
Brief Description: Back when Meyer lemons were in season, we decided to do a small batch of canning to kick-start the canning season (but we haven't done any canning since!). We've never made a concentrate before, and we've never used Meyer lemons before, but we ended up with 3 half pints of each (plus a smidgen of overage). The translucent liquids came out such a lovely color, and now that it's summer, that lemonade concentrate will be put to good use!

Project Picture:

Prompt: May- Boyz II Men
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: n/a
Project Name: Summer 2019 Journal
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: When I think of "a capella," I think of voices alone, or by themselves. This journal is for me alone so I can keep track of what I've done this summer. Instead of writing lists and checking off what I've done, and then seeing how much I haven't, I decided to only record what I actually did do to keep it positive :)  I made one last year from a purchased file for the pages, but I wanted a page layout that was a little more custom to me, so I designed my own. I bound it with my Bind-It-All (and I did a poor job of it, I must admit...). The cover is green cardstock (I colored the image with Sharpies), and the pages are an 8.5 X 11 inch sheet of copy paper folded in half.

Craft the Alphabet- E & R

Project Picture:

Prompt:  June- LinkedIn
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Swaptastic!, Community
Project Name: Science Microwave Bowl Cozies
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458862.0
Brief Description: I made these for my partner in the Asheville Swap (Perfectly Bohemian) because she had commented how much she loved some of the earlier ones I had made, and how she wished she had more. She's a science geek, too, so I thought science-themed fabrics would work. I used a bright green fabric for the reverse side. These are a very practical item!

Brief Description: I wanted to strengthen the dip resin I used to make this orchid, so I coated the petals with a UV resin sealer. :) I've not used UV resin before. I also used uv resin to create the gradient effect.

Brief Description: I made an illustration, hair accessory and boutonniere as fanart for the character Pike Trickfoot from Critical Role, and as a gift for the actress who plays Pike and her betrothed. To go with the hair accessory and matching boutonniere, I made a portrait of Pike, a handkerchief with one of Brian W. Project Name: Mailbox Monster

Brief Description:
I made this Mailbox Monster for Gish, the goofy scavenger hunt I participate in annually.  It's supposed to scare away junk mail!  See the link for more details. :)  It fits the prompt because it has a human-like face with animal-like horns.

Also, I'm joining the amazing summer event - this story is fascinating so far, LovelyMiss!  I took inventory, looked for the river, and answered promptly.

Project Name: Eel Haiku
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=459059.0
Brief Description:
This was another Gish item.  Did anyone else do it this year?  It's a haiku about the Japanese eel that roughly translates as:
Little Eel
Endangered
Yikes!
The calligraphy was done by the awesome teacher from the giant brush calligraphy workshop, and then I scrapbooked it and drew the little eels.  I loooooove eels, as people who follow my plushie blog know! XD

Project Picture:

Scavenger Hunt: Something Confusing (because even though I used the 5-7-5 syllable rule for the haiku, it is far more casual than a standard haiku and doesn't really fit the format otherwise, so it's confusing the form a bit!)

Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: -
Project Name: Sunhat Flowers
Project Link: -
Brief Description: Instead of embroidering on a flat surface, I used a 3D canvas - a client's hat! I had planned to start a new embroidery while I sat with her, but I forgot to bring my fabric. I asked her if she had anything I could sew on, and she offered the hat. You can probably tell it's all freehand with no references, but she liked it!
Project Picture:

Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: -
Project Name: Spirited Blueberries + Blueberry Syrup
Project Link: -
Brief Description: Vermeer's painting 'The Milkmaid' shows a young woman at work. I've also been hard at work in my kitchen, preserving the harvest! But partway through canning it, the water bath turned blue... I was worried that a jar had burst, but when I brought them out they all sealed. However, one of the spirited blueberry jars had lost an inch and a half of syrup! I still have no idea how it does that. Scavenger hunt - something confusing

NERDY NEWS UPDATE!!!!

Unfortunately, we have not heard from LovelyMiss in awhile, and are quite worried about her, but we also feel the games must go on, so I am stepping in temporarily until she comes back!  storeboughtcreations will post the new prompts in the Data Depot, so they will at least be on the front page.

Since it is already into September, you have until the END OF OCTOBER to submit "timely" prompts for August, September, and October.

August:

August Battle: Dungeons vs Dragons

Challenges:
Barbarians: Craft something primitive or something that requires strength to make
Bard: Craft something musical, or something that requires two skills working in harmony
Druid: Craft something inspired by nature, or something that will be used outside
Rogue: Craft something that is tricky to make, or something you've had difficulty with before
Wizard: Craft something that is inspired by magic or spells, or something you follow directions for from a book

September:

September Battle: Sci-Fi vs Fantasy

Challenges:
Space Station: Craft something that is inspired by space, or requires a lot of space to create
Castle: Craft something made of stone, or something that should last a very long time
Aliens: Craft something inspired by aliens, or something that is completely alien to you
Magical Creatures: Craft something inspired by your favorite magical creature
Technobabble: Craft something that is inspired by high-tech gadgetry (or using a high-tech gadget!), or something that makes no sense when you actually study it

And if you have any suggestions for battles or categories, please PM me!!!

Tracking Update:

Hi everyone! I apologize for taking so long to get caught up on tracking. I am all caught up now, so if you check your checklist in the Data Depot and see that something is missing, let me know (I guarantee I didn't miss tracking the project, I just may have missed ticking off the box).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Smeddley was kind enough to create prompts for August and September. I am unable to edit the Prompt Palace post, so I have added the new prompts under the Data Depot. You can find it by scrolling a little further down the first page of the Nerd Battles, or you can also click on Nerdly at the bottom of this post. He'll take you directly there.

I am also going to allow timely points to be collected still for August, and of course we're still in September. You can also still claim the two August free range slots if you'd like. To keep it easy, I will keep the battle and the bonus points open for anyone to claim until October 31. I will update the Data Depot to reflect this. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to send me a message. I am more than happy to help!
------------------------------

So far this season, we have 14 active players. *255 projects have been posted so far.

Here is where each team stands currently:

*You may notice that the total projects posted and the totals from the table differ. I separated out the throwback projects from the table totals as those projects aren't worth any points, so adding in those projects effects team averages.

Monthly Battle Winners:
January: Crossover
February: Console
March: Venus de Milo
April: Drowzee/Malasian Tapir
May: It's a tie! Backstreet Boys vs NSYNC
June: It's a tie! DeviantArt vs LiveJournal
July: North America
August: The battle will remain open until October 31, 2019
September: The battle will remain open until October 31, 2019
October:
November:
December:

To see what projects you have already submitted this season, click on Nerdly to get to the Data Depot. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. I am more than happy to help!

I do hope LovelyMiss is okay! We miss her!

For now, here's something for one of the new prompts (I like them, Smeddley)!

Prompt: August - Druid
Team: Multimedia
Bonus Points: Timely, Community
Project Name: Lotus Leaf Painting #2
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=459362.0
Brief Description: This was my second time doing lotus leaf painting.  It's SO relaxing to do and makes such beautiful things; I love it!  Also, since I literally painted on actual dried lotus leaves, I figure it works well for druid, inspired by nature!  (Even though I'm usually a Bard, I'm currently playing a Druid in TWO different campaigns right now, so this seems a fitting first prompt for me to enter for this!)
Project Photos:

Scavenger Hunt: Something Loud (compared to the tans of the original leaves, these colors are VERY loud!)

Research Project Name: Moon Princess Bomber Jacket

Team: Randomizer

Bonus Points: Community, WIP It!

Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=459382.0 (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=459382.0)

Brief Description: I finished the back of the jacket last year, but it turned out that the patches did not stay on very well with just the iron on adhesive. I was lazy about finishing them, but I found another patch I wanted to add to the shoulder in May and I have a convention this weekend so I thought maybe it was time to finish it up. I didn't want to keep accumulating things to add to the jacket if I wasn't going to finish it. XD
