Baranof arrived today bringing along some yummy candy.

He wanted to check out the prickly pear in our front yard.

Pixel arrived! She brought with her something simple but amazing - real, autumn leaves! :o ;D

I'm originally from PA but I've lived in Florida over 30 years now. We don't have autumn here, let alone autumn leaves. It's something I definitely miss. So what an amazing surprise to see some in person in the box! So thoughtful!

There was also fudge in the box! (Since jellybean89 wasn't sure when the shops would close for winter, she wanted to get it to me now. Yum!)

Well, Pixel was excited to take a look around her winter vacation home and I showed her around my apt complex a little to get a taste of Florida.

Visiting the pool:

No changing leaves here - just palm trees!

Even making friends with the ubiquitous lizard population!

So, Pixel is here safe and sound and I look forward to her time with me!

I'm glad you like the leaves! I wasn't sure whether to send any or not. :P

The pool looks amazing! & the lizard is cute!

-----

Millie made it to Michigan! She even arrived in time to see some snow! :)
(no pictures though - it kept alternating between snow & rain!)

She brought some candy and a Florida seashell with her! :D

Here she is meeting my cat:

Now she's helping me crochet, & tomorrow she can go to work with me. ;D

Dani arrived this afternoon! It was turning dark and blustery by the time I got home, so she has been stuck inside so far. She brought some tea bags to share with her too!

Looking out the window

Watching PBS Newshour

Carding some wool for a project

l love them too! Ours keeps growing, but never gets any fruit, which may be due to the small window of sun we get. We have neighbors in sunnier areas that have ones full of fruit right now.

This little cutie made it's way to Florida!  Seems to have gotten into the chocolate and made a bit of a mess.  (all clean now)

Enjoying some of my coffee and hanging out with me at school.

My 4yo instantly loved him/her and introduced all her friends (I'll get a picture later, they were too busy having fun to stop for a picture)

(I didn't see a name in the box so my daughter named him Cutie but it could change depending on her mood. lol)

Dani has an instagram (of sorts, I'm not an expert so she had to set it up herself)
https://www.instagram.com/danithelittlevisitor/ (https://www.instagram.com/danithelittlevisitor/)

I think it is set to "private", so I'm not sure who can see it without approval...

He has a passport and bio en-route. Thanks to way too much "help" from my 7 year old, they didn't stay in the box  ::) So as I was cleaning the table yesterday I found them. I'm sorry!

Orenji has made it to Missouri but clearly had some wild times before arriving.  DH had to sign for the package, but it looks like everything inside was OK.

This backpack was so adorable I couldn't stand it.  The picture is a bit fuzzy, but can you see the tiny notebook and pencil?

:o Oh my goodness! That's one way to start an adventure.

When I was getting packing supplies to send him I was like 'Hmm, I'll get a box instead of a mailer envelope so Eamea can have it for the return journey'... well there goes that idea XD. I can only imagine what your husband must have thought when they had him sign for it!

I can only imagine what your husband must have thought when they had him sign for it!

I knew that partners would be assigned while I was away and that I wouldn't be able to send out until I returned, so it never occurred to me to tell him that a new LV might be arriving.  He said he had no idea what was supposed to be in the box, but when he saw the LV inside he laughed.  It's a good thing that you did the bag in a box thing, because if anything was loose it probably would have fallen out.

We are up in the mountains camping until mid week so I won’t be able to post much. But we saw Elk crossing the road yesterday. It was just before dark so the photos aren’t the best. Both Penny and Wiggly Worm got to see them. Didn’t have time to do Penny’s hair first.. oops!

We haven't got out much this week, but today Dani came with me to my community garden plot.

Not quite time to harvest the leeks yet

She helped dig up one of the madder beds to harvest the roots. Next month we will work on processing the roots and dyeing some fabric and wool at medieval craft camp weekend.

She also made friends with another bear - a woolly bear!

Next week will be a bit more exciting, we are taking the bus for a day trip to NYC to check out the garment district. And if we find enough people to help row next weekend, we will go out on a viking longship.

Echo made it safely to NC and is getting acquainted with my desk menagerie.

Now we're gonna settle in with a blanket to see what the weather is going to do tomorrow. The weatherman said the dreaded four letter word that starts with an 'S' and ends with 'now' so everyone is losing their collective minds even though it's only supposed to be a dusting :P

Pixel came with me to my Halloween themed show yesterday (called Hauntizaar) and had fun with all the spooky themed goodies and sights.

(view from my table)

And then on the way home, we took one of several bridges crossing Tampa Bay to get home and she enjoyed the scenic view.

Yesterday we took Millie to visit the Tower of History (https://www.saultstemarie.com/tower-of-history/) so she could get a good view of the Soo! :)

The lower part of the tower has museum exhibits, and Millie stopped to check out where we are on this old map (1889-1924):

Then we climbed all 292(!) stairs up to the observation decks & looked out over the city:

(across the river is Sault Ste Marie, Ontario!)

Afterward, we stopped at The Wicked Sister (http://wickedsistersault.com/) for some lunch!

Nessie had a very eventful day today!
First, we foraged for wild figs and blackberries. We live in a gated community and it's illegal to spray insecticides and herbicides on the property so yay for me!!

We paused a bit at the Lake. Nessie said she was homesick so we went in search of a Loch Pines monster. Sadly, all we found were some lake weeds. Still, it seemed to cheer her up a bit. And there were pretty views of the lake and the golf course. She and Elli also made some leaf wands with all of the lovely Autumn leaves falling.

We went home and picked more blackberries in our backyard. ALL of them are volunteers. I did not plant a single berry bush and yet there they are!! We also harvested some Bay leaves and the last of the cherry tomatoes before checking on the rosemary and feverfew. Then she helped me make gin with some of our findings and juniper berries!

Orange has made it safely to the UK. We have had glorious autumn sunshine the last few days, but today is a little dreary, so not the best introduction to the UK!

As the chilly autumn has now fully set in, it is time to make soup again! After meeting Hazel, Orange helped me in the kitchen making some Roast Parsnip soup. And of course, helped me to eat a bowl :D

Off to the theatre to see Wicked this evening!

Pixel came with me to my massage today (I have neck damage so I get a therapeutic massage monthly to keep my flexibility and mobility) and she learned a little about muscle groups:

And discovered the face cradle is a little bit too big for her.

It was a relaxing hour in a quiet room with nice music though so not a bad place to chill.

We had a pretty low key weekend. We had to run errands, so we deiced to take a break and walk through a park in Walnut Creek California. It has some pretty outdoor sculptures, including this garden sculpture of vines/ branches that you can walk through.

Then we had lunch at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants that is in Pleasant Hill, CA.

Amelia and I have already gone on a trip to and back from Hershey PA, because I had a job interview... and I got the job! I'll still be in Virginia for a couple months, so Amelia will get about half of this swap as a Virginian and the other half as a Pennsylvanian!

In the meantime, here's approximately the halfway point between the two on the drive I take, and several of my LVs have seen if we're lucky enough to have nice weather on the mountain: Blue Ridge Mountains scenic view on I-64.

I've been watching and waiting for pictures to start appearing in the swap thread and couldn't figure out why nothing was happening, then I had a DUH moment … there is a gallery and that's where the pictures will be  :D

Now I found it and have caught up on the pages I've been missing.

Seeuudee seeing Orange on Hazel's nose made me laugh, good thing I didn't have anything in my mouth or it would have sprayed out.

Can't wait for my LV to arrive so we can go exploring.

Congrats Alexampersandra!

Dani went on a quick day trip to NYC last week to check out the garment district:

Walking from the bus stop over to the district

NYC parking lot with car elevators

Fabric!!

She also got to see some trim, bead, button, and notion stores, and got a lesson in feather curling at a store that just sells feathers (actually a different store than the one in this photo)

The viking ship voyage got punted to next weekend due to weather, so this weekend we are just doing some projects around the house, and meeting up w/ another craftster for dim sum tomorrow morning.

Fall has now suddenly arrived in force so I'm settled down with a cup of cocoa to write this post :)

Fall has brought with it a pretty nasty week of wet and windy weather but Echo and I managed to get a sunny day to go out and play in the leaves.

Of course all that wet weather is the perfect time to catch up on some TV shows.

(If anyone is unfamiliar with The Durrells in Corfu I highly recommend it. It's based off a series of books by Gerard Durrell, a British wildlife biologist, that tell the stories of his childhood growing up on the Greek island of Corfu. The books are a riot and the show does a pretty good job of hitting the best stories.)

We took advantage of another nice day to go to a local farmer's market. This one stall had the most perfect display of pumpkins, like seriously, these pumpkins should've been in a photo in Southern Living or something, all nicely round and bright orange.

PFD I know what you mean about the leaves! I grew up in Alaska and all we got were ugly brown leaves. It's fun to see the leaves actually turn colors.

Normally, my visitors come with me to MY vendor shows, but my husband actually had a little show Friday night! It was just a few artists outside a gourmet food store and honestly, it was the dozen of us artists basically hanging out and chatting (because no actual customers came by) but we still had fun and it helped my husband get out of his art shell a little. I've been encouraging him for years to do some shows and events with his art so this was a big step for him.

His table set up. (It's actually my display props repurposed for his art but hey, it worked!)

This was the owner's little girl. She was FASCINATED by Pixel and seriously kept trying to steal her. I let her make a "kitty" pumpkin - then had to almost pry Pixel out of her hands because it was "Pixel's bedtime" (i.e. I had to hide her in my purse! LOL)

One of the other artists did a live wood burning piece while we were there that evening. He used a torch and made this in about two hours. It was his first time experimenting with using a torch.

Alexampersandra, congrats on getting the job!

Ptarmic wumpus, I agree about Mood.  So many beautiful fabrics but priced high.  It's been years since I got to go fabric shopping in the city, and I am jealous!

PFD, your husband's artwork is gorgeous!  Does he work primarily in pencils?

We've had a few nice days, so Orenji has gotten the whirlwind tour before it gets too cold.  Naturally a stop at the Arch is a must.

The City Museum is fun for children of all ages.  It's not a regular museum but more of an artist's playground.

Many commercial buildings and homes in the city are brick.  Here's a sample corner downtown.  I'm so used to it that it doesn't seem strange until someone came from California and marveled over it.  Apparently brick is a no-no there due to earthquakes.

We capped off our city tour with barbecue at Pappy's Smokehouse.

We had a chilly damp day last week, so the first batch of potato soup had to be made.

Title: Re: Traveling Little Visitor Swap Round 28 - Gallery!
Post by: Audania1 on October 30, 2018 05:14:04 PM
That's true about the bricks! I live in California, but lived in North Carolina also. Brick is everywhere over there! You won't find it out here unless it's one of the old preserved buildings. One thing I love about California and some of the old towns in it is the Victorian homes. I know the were on the East Coast but I never got to see many of them while we were there. We plan on taking Nessie to see some while she is here - especially in the old district of Nevada City when Victorian Christmas comes up!

Oh man! You guys have good candy too! Lol.
We are very blessed to live in the trick or treat neighborhood. Most people just sit in their driveway around a fire pit and pass out candy. The street is so blocked full of kids that people can't drive (literally not allowed to from 6.30 to 9). Here's some pics of Nessie getting ready to go out with the girls.

Halloween weekend plans were cancelled since we were all sick. We spent the weekend in.

Decorating the Halloween tree.

Painting pumpkins.

Anana working on his costume.

He's a pepperoni and PINEAPPLE pizza for Halloween. My husband asked me if I made it to "watch the world burn" since pineapple on pizza can be a very controversial subject.

I have a tradition to go up to my mom's house and hand out candy with her so of course, Pixel came along for the fun.

There's a house a couple blocks away that, every year, does this amazing haunted house. He keeps saying this is his last year (he's done it like 30+ years now!) but who knows if he'll actually stop or not. ;D Meanwhile, it's quite a sight:

We met friends for lunch last weekend - Orange insisted in hanging out in the table flowers!

Then this week we caught a Lego exhibition in a local museum - we were lucky, we caught it on the very last day. We learnt about the history of Lego, including that the first Lego men to have movable arms and legs were introduced in 1978.

Orange has accompanied my to work this week. I am usually quite good at taking my lunch to work, but this week has been busy, so I have been buying lunch!

Really hoping that Strawberry makes it to Canada soon and fingers crossed she is enjoying her long journey!

Dani got to go out on a viking longship today, the Sae Hrafn!

Preparing to head out

Sailing on the lower Potomac

Looking out an oarport

The homeowner where there ship is docked has a big party right after Halloween where they float pumpkins in the river and shoot them from the shore. This year someone brought a cannon:

Hahahaha, that is hysterical, but don't tell Kyle I said that...

Oh my gosh that is so amazing!! I really wish we had things like that over here. Maybe we do? I am really going to look into it now! We live "on" a lake but only recently. I will have to see what kind of historical things they have to offer. How fun to shoot floating pumpkins on the water!!!

Baranof had a fun weekend with us, since we went to Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco to see Jurassic Park in concert!

There was a Day of the Dead event earlier in the day, so the Hall was fully decorated with Day of the Dead themes.

Finally, you can see SF City Hall across the street and it was all lit up in red, white, & blue.

I just realized I never posted Amelia's costume, and I bought a new phone this weekend so I'll have to take a few minutes later to find the photo and post it (or take a new photo with the new phone, maybe).

In the meantime... Amelia and I have rocked the vote!

Now we are snugged in with a heating pad, a gin and tonic, and PBS Newshour to watch election returns

We have a sculpture park that I used to visit all the time in high school, but I hadn't been there in a while.  These two installations are new to me.  They do have other works that aren't giant things, but that's all I took pictures of on our quick stop.

Even though Orenji begged to help grout I wouldn't allow it.  That stuff gets everywhere!

I sold raffle tickets for my quilt guild's fundraiser, and Orenji made a new friend.

I started my seasonal job at Mother Earth Pillows sewing pillows and covers.

My friend Kevin came to our guild meeting and did a presentation.  These two got along just fine.

After voting we found this tree in a hallway.  I'm still not sure if it's cute or creepy.

I met some friends for a long lunch on Sunday, and we went to a Syrian restaurant that opened this year.  It was so good and I was so hungry that I completely blanked on getting a photo with my food, but here's one of Orenji and my empty tea pot and cup.  ::)

Last but not least, this week I had a consultation and prep work for getting my teeth fixed!  My Invisalign trays should be here at the beginning of December.

OMG completely forgot we got our first snow last night.  It's a couple weeks early and was hard to get because it was night time, but the flakes were nice and large.  I'm sure a lot of kids were disappointed when they woke up this morning because it was already gone.

I got the chance to run a 5K (my third, in as many months!) on the campus of my alma mater, so I got there early to show Amelia around.

That's the Trible Library, which just finished a partial renovation, is GORGEOUS, and is featured on the medal for the 5K.

And that's our fountain (which was moved to an entirely different place than it was the last time I was on campus... I graduated 10 years ago). Students at CNU receive a penny at orientation, and drop that penny into this fountain during the procession across campus to graduation.

Amelia was in my bag while I ran, and I beat my last time by 22 seconds, so I think I'll take her on my next one, too!

Wow, snow!!  :o It's still in the mid-80's here. Yesterday at our show it was about 84F with a feels-like higher than that!

Long-time participants of this swap will recognize Hillsborough High School as I vend there once a month from Oct - April, but this was the first time I got to go inside! Build in 1885, this was the first public high school in the region and it is impressive, with a brick facade and very detailed design. My HS was a squat, square, block without windows because it doubled as a hurricane shelter so this is definitely NOT the norm around here!!

Normally, I just get to show the outside. But they had it open and you could tour it yesterday. I could only take 10 minutes and do a quick run-through but it was still pretty neat!

Old, tiled alcove for a water fountain.

This amazing auditorium with a stage, seriously decorated beams, old, wooden seats, and stained glass windows!

Even the stairs look like something out of an old hotel with carved wood handrails.

It was neat seeing inside and I'm glad Pixel had a chance to briefly explore with me!

Last weekend Dani helped out at our Viking display at the Maryland Irish Festival (why they have Viking re-enactors and not medieval Irish re-enactors, I am not sure). I couldn't get out much because I had to stay at our demo table, but Dani helped out with my display of fiber dyes and spinning:

Here she is helping to smash up some madder root

The festival was on the north side of Baltimore, right next to the main building of my favorite tea company (they also roast their own coffee, but have their own tea lines as well), so we stopped by to pick up some goodies

Eamea, that tree looks like it has indulged in some umm... substances of a botanical nature ::)

These past two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity and Echo has faithfully toted along but there just haven't been many chances to pause and snap a photo, however I managed to get a few.

Now you might be asking, What was I so busy doing? Well, my friend got married last weekend! She had a very small, intimate wedding so it fell to the few of us in the wedding party to organize and get a lot of the things ready for the wedding plus get ourselves all ready.

Her color scheme was blue and orange (no, she's not an Auburn fan, those are just her favorite colors) so one of the things I had to find before the wedding was something orange to put with my dress. Cue me and Echo visiting every boutique, thrift shop and consignment store in the area. (It's fall I thought, orange is a fall color, should be easy...)

Though along the way we did see some pretty interesting stuff.

Found a military balaclava in with their winter hats and scarves at one thrift store, Echo had to try it on.
(And yes, I totally bought it to add to my cosplay wardrobe)

Finally ended up at a local dress/formals shop and the lady there happened to have an orange sash that went with a dress she no longer had. So she let me just borrow it for the wedding!

Echo helped me get ready on the morning of the wedding.

After the wedding I had to go out of town for a few days, so I went by the bank to use the coin exchange machine to try and lighten my purse a bit (It worked, I had been lugging around like $8 in change :D)

But in the return for the coin machine we found a penny from the Cayman Islands

Just thought it was kinda cool so I took a photo of Echo with it.

Now to hopefully get a few days of calm before Thanksgiving rolls around ;)

Unfortunately seeuudee's Raspberry never arrived at my house for her visit.  But, we came up with a plan and now I have a LV with me …

Let me introduce you to Peanut and his first adventure yesterday.

Hubby and I took a road trip to the mountains

After a longish drive, Peanut needed to cool off in the snow

On the drive home comfort rather than safety was our thought

We took other pictures, all staged by hubby (who thinks this is a fantastic idea) but, as I already told seeuudee, I want to save those for the scrapbook and not give away all our fun times.

Loving the pic of Peanut in the snow! And I absolutely love that your hubby is enjoying this as well.

On Saturday Orange came with me to a fundraising quiz night. We called our team the Wooden Spoons and that was our aim, but we came in second to last, so didn't even manage that  ::) However, it was a fun evening with some good friends. Orange stuck to just tonic, but I have to admit enjoying a little gin with mine :D And then he helped me check raffle numbers - we won a bottle of wine, so good end to the evening.

And then on Sunday, whilst out food shopping and stopping for a coffee, we came across these cute hare sculptures who had been decorated in poppies for Remembrance Sunday. In fact they were all over the place, even wrapped around tree trunks. It was so lovely to see.

We took Marshmallow to the Royal Botanical Gardens where they had a "Halloween trail".

A quick visit at work for our "Social Subjects Halloween Bake-off"

And then of course there was Halloween.. Marshmallow helped me with handing out sweets to the "guisers" (who have to work for it.. if they don't have a song, dance or joke there are no sweets!!).

First it snowed (briefly)! Then in true DC-east-of-95 fashion, it changed to rain and washed away all the snow.

On Friday and Saturday, she went to a kind of medieval craft camp on a farm in southern MD. Here she is taking a tour of the forge

Helping with some madder and walnut dyes

Burlington Food Truck Rodeo

Bridge St. Food Truck Festival in Danville VA (About 40 minutes away.)

The Dan River in Danville.

Greensboro history mural at the Horton-McGrit library.

Lighting of the Green in downtown Gibsonville.

They have a big garden railroad that they run once a month. They lit it up for Lighting of the Green. I'll go back later and take pictures of it during the day.

And last Friday (hubby's birthday) we had to have a "split date" (grandparents currently on holiday so hubby was looking after the girls while I went to see Grindlewald's Crimes. Hubby will go on Sunday), so Marshmallow came along to keep me company.

We went to hunting camp in Eastern Washington, over 400 miles away. We usually bring a wall tent and camp for a couple weeks with a bunch of my inlaws, it's like a family reunion. But we could only go for a few days this year so we rented a forest service cabin instead. It was an adventure! The cabin has no electricity or running water. The lights, heat, and refrigerator were all powered by propane.

The sunsets were fantastic! Penny is in the photo, but a bit hard to see

We had a big Thanksgiving with 20 people, so I only got a few pics of Baranof while the tables were being set.

The big thing everyone was thankful for this year was rain! We finally got rain in California and it was such a relief.

Since it has been so smoky in our area, we hadn't been outside much for the two weeks before Thanksgiving. My husband wanted to go mini-golfing, since we hadn't gone in years. It was a lot of fun!

We had our first bit of winter weather a week or so ago. Unfortunately it was ice rather than snow.

Ice is always a huge mess but thankfully we didn't lose power. Since it was so cold, we decided to make some nice warm Indian food for dinner.

Then it was time to head home for Thanksgiving. This was the first time I've had to drive home by myself for a holiday and I made the rookie mistake of waiting until Wednesday to travel. So Echo and I found some traffic along the way.

My whole family and I went to my great aunt's house for Thanksgiving. Echo helped me with some of the food prep.

(Yes that is a hand-cranked mixer :D)

After Thanksgiving I spent a few days at home with my family before heading back to the mountains. While I was home, I remembered that one of the little visitors in this swap is a familiar face so Echo got to meet an LV doppelgänger.

As you've probably guessed from some of my previous posts I love thrift shop and flea market shopping. And there's a huge thrift store in my hometown plus we're near the NC State Fairgrounds which hosts a flea market so we all went out shopping on the holiday weekend and saw some pretty wild things.

One booth at the flea market had an entire bin of stuffed frogs.

There was also a booth that was doing... I guess the best name for it would be plein-air chiropracty.

Yes, you're reading that right. It was called the Crack Shack and the tent was painted to look like a shack. Now, I've seen some weird things before at the flea market but this is right up there :o

The best thing I found though in my shopping adventures was this doll who is spinning!

I love dolls, particularly these hand-made folk art style ones. And when I saw that she was spinning I simply had to have her. I figure she's from Turkey or somewhere nearby since that's a Turkish style spindle that's she's using.

I'm hoping we'll get some real snow soon, gotten a few dustings and some more ice since then but nothing that's worth photographing XD

Amelia and I are up to a lot of bookishness tonight...

Only two more days (well, more like one day and a few hours) left of NaNoWriMo! I'm handwriting it this year, just for fun.

I'm at work tonight, so we took a look at my withdraw cart (I think my favorite one here is "Zune for Dummies.")

And we took a look at the incoming books cart to make sure things that I've ordered have made it here, and to familiarize ourselves with the new items. (Which, since I have 13 work days left here, is not so necessary, but a good habit.)

Strawbz has a phobia about the colour Lime Green … I got quite the laugh when I read this before she arrived … my craft room is lime green … how was she going to spend time in there??  Not a problem, I thought, one she arrives I'll make her a pair of sun glasses so she can enter that room.  This morning I convinced Mr. Potato Head to lend her a pair of his, gave them dark lenses, placed them on her face (thanks to hubby's help) and she got to see my craft room for the first time.

I've been crocheting toques to donate to our local Santa's Anonymous … yesterday I had help delivering them to the donation bin … I didn't take too much time posing this photo since it was in a public area and I didn't want anyone thinking I was taking rather than giving.

That is hilarious!  ;D Of all the colours she could have had a phobia about and she picked the colour of your craft room! Love it  :D :D :D

We have had quite a busy weekend! Yesterday mum and I had an afternoon tea that has been in planning since September! We originally couldn't find a date we could both make, then we managed to finally book something and my aunt ended up in A&E, so we had to postpone. I think it was all meant to be, as a local pub has just started doing afternoon teas in their Gin Lounge. I don't know about America, but gin has become huge in the UK recently. The pub started their Gin Lounge last year and had about 10/12 different gins. This year they have around 35!! Their afternoon tea starts with a glass of prosecco, you have a traditional afternoon tea (sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and cakes), with the accompanying tea being optional, and you also choose 3 different gins, with mixers, from their menu. They have set it up in a huge marquee and it is so beautifully set up - the ceiling lights sparkle, it is so pretty.

We had to take a sneaky pic with the gin and tonics, because Orange is not of legal drinking age yet. We waited until the waitress was serving another table to grab a pic   ::)

And then today we met with a friend to potter around a Christmas market that had been set up in nearby gardens. The gardens are lovely to wander round, but the weather was not right for that today, but we did have a ride on the little steam train. Orange held tight to my friend, as it was a little blustery and he didn't want to get lost on the tracks along the way!  ;)

Amelia and I made latkes for our Hanukkah celebration at work today!

(I know, the whole thing about latkes is frying them in oil for the symbolism, but these are pre-made frozen ones because I needed a lot of them and had to get them done before work, so we baked them. There's definitely oil in them though, so I think it counts.)

Happy (mid-)Hanukkah to all!

This was a fairly laid back week for us …

Peanut sat and watched me sew a new mini quilt and tried not to startle the birds that came to the feeders behind him

Strawbz came with me to mail a swap package and it made her a little home sick … until I reminder her she'd just spent 2 months inside an envelope travelling to see me

It's not decorated or anything yet, but there's one technically in our apt so...progress!

So my app has been acting funky for a while now. :( Usually it's just so much easier to send pictures from my app but that is not working for me right now. I will make time tomorrow to sit down, send pictures to my computer, and try to upload some from that.
Nessie has been having fun, however, with birthday shenanigans, visiting Christmas lights, and making cookies. I will probably have quite a huge photo dump to share lol.

Due to a variety of silly reasons, I had to go to work on Wednesday when most people were not there, so Dani came with me to see a few things. We'll go back and see the visitor center sometime later, we aren't allowed to take photos of a lot of things (nothing nefarious, just government regulations) inside the gates.

Measuring the height of one of my amaryllis in my office

Making friends with the Kool-aid Man

One of the labs down the hall has a big laser (there is actually a separate trailer building in the woods that has a really big laser and supposedly glows at night but I can't confirm)

There is a display in the lobby of my building with a casting of some dinosaur footprints that were found on the other side of campus. The casting is really big and has prints from lots of different dinosaurs.

The hyperwall, in a rare moment of functionality

One of the satellite models also in the lobby

Currently sitting under 18 inches of snow. So this will be a two part post, this is photos from the past week and then tomorrow I'll post all the snow day pics ;D

I live about 30 minutes from the big (for this area) town that I went to college in. So last week I had to take my car to the mechanic over there so I spent the day hanging out with some friends and running around the college campus to take some photos. There are lots of sculptures and other outdoor artwork.

This sculpture is by the dining hall and is called Aspire. All the students either call it A Spire or the Eye of Sauron (plus some other more colorful names that I shall not repeat but you can look at the form of the sculpture and take a guess ;))

This sculpture was made to commemorate the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Now, my school has a reputation in the state for being a bit... free spirited. Honestly it's one of the things I loved most about going there. So in the middle of campus is a large grass area and whenever it's sunny and above freezing people are always out there hanging out, putting up hammocks, and usually there's at least one person slacklining.

Slacklining is sort of like tightrope walking, but it's low to the ground and the line is much wider and flat, more like a strap than a rope.

Well as luck would have it, even though it was probably only 50 degrees out there was someone out slacklining. So Echo got to make a new friend and have a go at it!

Slogg kept Echo very safe and he said we could come back any time if either :o of us wanted to try it again.

Now onto some more mundane adventures.

Since it's December now, I can start working on my Christmas crafting (I don't like starting until it's December!).

This year I'm working on a reindeer ornament from a craft kit. I bought three or four kits last year (those fancy holiday crafting magazines with an included kit are such a guilty pleasure of mine) but didn't get around to this one so I've been saving it for this holiday season.

We also went to the local public library one day this week. They were all decorated for Christmas and had these adorable book trees on all the tables.

Quilting is a huge heritage craft in this area so the library had up a display of small quilts in their local art gallery.

This was our favorite quilt on display.

And then as part of the holiday decorations they had up a huge Christmas colored quilt.

Then Nessie helped us decorate for Christmas:

She went with us to get our Christmas tree! She and M'aire liked finding the little ones to play with

Nessie had fun crafting with me before hanging out with the slightly bigger bearded dragons

Then we got to see Christmas lights in our favorite neighborhood!

Pixel got to come see the indoor ice skating rink inside the mall in Clearwater. Ironically, though I am from PA and didn't move to Florida until I was 9, the first time I ever went ice skating was here in this very rink! ;D

(eta: the banner is for our local NHL team, the Tampa Bay Lightning. That's the Captain, Steven Stamkos. There's banners and player numbers all around the rink. Because the team is called the Lightning, the slogan for the fans is, "Be the Thunder" which you can see on the wall around the 2nd floor as well.)

We decided to escape Snowpocalypse and celebrate my birthday weekend at Myrtle Beach.

It rained the entire time. This was taken on the last day from our balcony. Anana never got a chance to go down to the actual beach.

Celebrating my 40th with a cannoli cupcake from Publix.

Bowling with mural of Myrtle Beach in the background.

We drove up to Fort Fisher (near Wilmington) to go to the aquarium before heading home.

This fish was watching me the entire time. I feel like he wanted to pose for a picture.

Last week Dani came with me to a science meeting downtown. I only went for one day to give a presentation since going to in-town meetings is kind of a hassle.

She snuck into the meeting without a badge...shhhh!

Checking out the giant poster session - only a small portion fits in the photo, and the posters change every day

These holiday lights were up on our way back to the metro after the meeting.

On Friday we head off to St Augustine for a week with my parents. So we should get in some good adventures in FL, and then I'm going to see if I can squeeze in a trip downtown to see some tourist stuff next month since most of my weekends are free. We'll also be going to a basket making conference in Newport News in January, although I don't think we'll get away from the conference much since there are evening classes and activities.

Costco

Michaels

Fabricland … they had to stay in the vehicle this time so only got to pose with the sign

As promised (after a long delay, sorry about that) part two of my post, Snow Day!!!

We spent most of the evening waiting for it to start snowing. And then once it started we had to keep looking outside to see how much was accumulating.

When we woke up the next morning we already had more than a foot and it was still coming down really heavily so we spent the day inside. Of course, snow days are the perfect day to do some Christmas crafting.

(If you like neat and tidy crafting I suggest you look away now ::))

The snow tapered off overnight so the next morning we got up to go do some exploring in our 18" of winter wonderland. Naturally you have to dress properly.

And then it's out to the snow!

Echo made some snow angels and built a snowman.

And then back inside to warm up. Echo got a kick out of this day's wisdom on my desk calendar (It's a calendar of African proverbs, they can be... blunt XD)

Dani went on a trip to St Augustine, FL!

Flying down

Palm trees! It was a bit chilly most of the week tho.

Hanging out on the beach (in the cold wind)

Visiting a chocolate factory - this machine has a spigot with melted chocolate pouring out

Checking out the historic lighthouse

We're back home again, and I can't go back to work until the shutdown ends, so we'll see what happens. I think all the museums are going to close after 1 January, so I might try to go downtown on New Years while stuff is still open.

Amelia has not gotten to do many fun things lately, what with me finally and officially moving to PA, but we are ready to have a great 2019!

We finished my 2018 reading list yesterday, so here is the 2019 list! (All suggestions from friends/family; one per person, nothing I've ever read before, and I capped it at 36 books because three per month seems reasonable.)

We are preparing to make fondue tonight! Only for us and one friend, but tradition is tradition!

Is it time to toast yet?  ;D

We hit two households as always for Christmas (my husband's cousin first and then my mom's) and then we had a more casual NYE at a friend's house playing Cards Against Humanity. Fun times, it's become our laid back tradition.

Here's Pixel in my Christmas village under the tree:

And here she is last night, ringing in the new year with a little bubbly:

My friend's neighbors are crazy and they all compete to set off the biggest fireworks so this shot was taken from my friend's driveway as we watched the show:

Dani and I went on a walking tour of monuments and stuff downtown on the last day that stuff is still open. This is about a 5-mile walk.

Starting from Capitol South, we headed to the Library of Congress (which is actually multiple buildings, this is the fancy one)

Next door is the Supreme Court

And across the street is the Capitol

On the other side of the Capitol is the Capitol Christmas tree, which I think is a lot nicer than the national tree. This one is from Oregon and is covered by handmade ornaments from kids. There was a weird gathering of people with Samoyed dogs next to the tree, there were at least 20-30 dogs - I don't know what that was about.

There are a lot. of. sculptures. This one is at the steps of the Capitol

This one is in the Hirshhorn sculpture garden

The Smithsonian castle (background) is just offices, but the Arts and Industries building is the second oldest Smithsonian museum. It is currently being renovated and is closed.

This is the National Mall, facing the Capitol. They did a lot of work on the turf a few years ago so it actually has grass instead of just being a giant mud pit like before.

The Mall runs between the Washington Monument and the Capitol.

The newest museum on the Mall is the National Museum of African American History and Culture, I haven't been because they have been using timed tickets for entrance and it has been really tough to get tickets.

The Washington Monument has two colors of stones because there was a 20+ year break in construction and a different marble source was used for the second half.

The WWII memorial has engraved Kilroy graffiti

The Lincoln memorial was the most crowded of the places we visited.

The Vietnam Veterans memorial is tucked away near the Lincoln Memorial and was decked out with wreaths

Constitution Gardens is a bit bare in the winter

This wacky little house is wedged between the White House and Washington monument. It was the lockkeeper's house for a canal that used to run nearby.

The National Christmas tree. See what I mean? Kind of small, really boring. The park service used to have a "yule log" nearby which was a pit full of giant burning logs, but sadly they "improved" the area and got rid of the pit.

A low key day in Lafayette Park across from the White House. Just the usual random protestors, tourists, secret service. and some people doing dance routines for tips.

Thanks! One of these days, I really need to sit down and document my village in a cohesive blog post because every year people love it and ask for details all over fb and other social media. LOL The short version is that I have building from two series of long-discontinued, officially licensed Disney Christmas Villages that I painstakingly gathered over years of secondary-market collecting. I've got the entire Dept 56 Disney Parks Village set which came out in the 90's but I'm missing a few buildings from the Disney Parks Village (released within the theme parks by Disney itself) that was discontinued about 8 years ago.

Here's a look at the village from last year (no visitor) just to better show the buildings:

Yeah it's taken a long time to get this many pieces. I've been at it for years. LOL The "Partner's Statue" was actually a Hallmark ornament released this year. I know my Hallmark sold out and I can't find it on their website, but here's what it looks like and the info: https://www.hookedonhallmark.com/2018-Partners--Mickey-and-Walt-_p_39855.html (I think it was like $20 so obviously this place is charging a lot but maybe you can keep an eye out for it on ebay or something too.)

Hahaha, there has been *plenty* of dental action here too, at least for my cats. Cat #1 had all his teeth extracted in November (stomatitis) which was fairly grotesque and not at all photogenic. Cat #2 has a dental next Monday with near certainty of losing his two remaining canines.

Since almost everything is closed starting today because of the shutdown, and if this thing goes on too long my employer (fed contractor) will run out of funds and stop paying me, Dani is going to be helping me with exciting activities like "cleaning out boxes in the basement" and laundry....

She helped with my knitting while we rode the bus:

On the way home, we stopped at Cops and Doughnuts (https://copsdoughnuts.com/) & had a delicious cinnamon sugar twist donut (no picture - it was eaten too quickly! :P)

Millie placed a pin on their hometown map:

& visited Cops & Doughnuts jail!

I was tempted to get some of the really strange ones, but I went with apple pie, radioactive martian soda, butter beer (from Harry Potter!), and some other fruity one. OMG Hi!  Remember me?  ::)  I was rolling right along with posting, then nothing exciting happened and the next thing I know BAM! It's January.  It's sad, but I'm not even sure what the last thing I posted was.  I do know that Orenji got to see three Christmas trees this year.  Here's my mom's tree.

I met some friends for a dance show in The Grove.  It's a funky little area with small breweries, bars, and ethnic restaurants.

I've never had this happen before, but my keyboard died.  Here's Orenji with the new one.  Can you even stand the excitement?

I normally wear glasses, but I wanted to pick up some contacts for occasional wear.  Orenji's eyes were checked while we were there and got a clean bill of health.

White Castle's boxes used to be blue, but on a recent visit I noticed they'd switched to orange.  Orenji wholeheartedly approves of the new color.

Last but not least, we watched the birds eat suet.  I love the bright cardinals in the winter landscape.  We're supposed to get snow this weekend, and hopefully I'll spot some more.

Not a whole lot going on this week with continued shutdown nonsense. The big event of the weekend is snow!

Dani helped set up the snow board in the back yard for snow measurements

Yep, it is snowing

For DC, this is enough snow to cause general freakouts and close stuff for a day or two

If Dani is lucky, I might let her stay inside while I shovel later! Haha.

We didn't go on any exciting adventures this weekend, so I spent time working on my scrapbook. Hard to believe we only have a few weeks left! There are a couple more places I am hoping to get to before this round is over.

Nessie helped me make a few batches of delicious pumpkin bread for extra Christmas gifts.
After Christmas, we took Nessie to Muir Woods National Redwood Forest before the shut down. She loved the redwoods and thought the banana slugs were cool. After the forest, we had a delicious stout at the Pelican Inn that was all decked out in holiday fare.
Last weekend, my mother taught us how to wire wrap sea glass and start macrame beading.
My daughter turned 12 the other day and she wanted to go out for lunch. But she is easy and only wanted Subway and Nessie came along lol.

UGH This government shutdown thing has brought so much of our area to a standstill. All of my planned trips for this month were in the National Forest  :(

Several people have PMed about trips or things they wanted to do in early February, and the deadline seems to be coming too soon for most, so I'm going to bump send outs back a bit. New send back date is Feb 16.

Y'all... I forgot how much work it is to start a new job. Time has FLOWN. I haven't given Amelia a proper tour of my new workplace but we'll get around to it. Meanwhile...

I found a Little Free Library at the duck pond in our neighborhood (which will also be on my running trail once it's a little warmer than 20 degrees...) The ducks were starting to swarm... Sadly, we didn't bring anything to feed them, so they didn't much care for us after that.

I am pleased to announce, though, that I know exactly where Amelia's box of Stuff So Far is (which is more than I can say for a lot of things I packed weeks or months ago...)

Umm.... I'm really sorry... Bad swapper. Marshmallow is getting outings, but I somehow don't manage to post photos (Tapatalk having issues with Craftster and my work PC doesn't have access to my photos at home obviously). And then I totally forget about it.

Sorry!!!

Will post photos dump tonight after girls' bedtime.

Last weekend we got almost 9" of snow in a 24 hour period.  That's a lot for here, but it's good for snow angels and snow dying fabric.  I felt like Orenji shouldn't be going out in all that snow without protection, so I made a scarf.

I also made a gooey butter cake (a local favorite).  It's rich but so tasty!

Kimmswick, MO is a town of about 150 people not far from me.  Most of the buildings in town are from the late 19th century and have been repurposed as shops and restaurants.  I met some sewing friends for lunch at the Dough Depot and thought Orenji needed a picture taken with this stained glass divider.

We are headed to Cairo on Monday, so I definitely won't be posting until the beginning of February.  So happy for the delayed sendout!

He looks so warm in his scarf <3

Also, Gooey Butter Cake!?!? :o I'm gonna have to send that photo to my mom. My parents lived in St. Louis for a while and one of her co-workers always used to bring a gooey butter cake to work for office birthdays. It really is a regional thing, she hadn't seen it before moving there and now that they're away from St. Louis she'll mention it to people and unless they're from that area they are like 'What on Earth are you talking about?'

Echo and I also saw some wildlife (well the tracks of some) after the big snow we had.

And we had some surprise snow earlier this week (just a dusting they said, less than an inch.... yeah right XD)

I just realized I never posted the holidays :o So I shall remedy that.

Echo helped with my small Christmas display after I finished the plush reindeer to add to it.

We got together with family for Christmas. Echo got into the Christmas spirit with a festive hat and helped us with the dessert after our big Christmas feast.

After the holidays, we celebrated the New Year by watching the New Horizons flyby of Ultima Thule.

Dani came with me to Newport News last weekend for a basket weaving conference. Yes, that is an actual thing.

Stopping at the VA rest stop east of Richmond - for anyone not from the midAtlantic, "Virginia is for Lovers" and "Maryland is for Crabs". I don't know of any other states that have slogans like that

Viriginia cookies for dessert!

The hotel was in the "fake" downtown area, with a movie theater, shops, and a big pond

We weren't supposed to have phones in the classrooms, but Dani helped me finish my basket homework on Friday night

It's been chilly by Florida standards the past few days (it got down into the 30's which is really cold for us!) so we had the faux fireplace going for both ambiance and a little warmth. (It's hard to get a good photo of it since it's a glass front and you just wind up seeing the reflection of the room, but hopefully, you get the idea.)

I know that rest stop so well (after my billion trips to/from PA last year)!!! Did you get that cookie at Taste? It looks so familiar. I didn't expect a little bit of home to show up when I logged in today  ;D

Amelia and I have just been trying not to freeze to death over the past week or so... single digit temperatures do not fun LV adventures make.

I have to go to work now, but will hopefully post more tonight.

We had planned to go see some landmarks around town today but it was -22C (-8F) when I got up so we decided to stay home and go tomorrow, weather permitting.  Later I had to brave the weather for a few groceries and thankfully it was only -6C (21F) so not too cold.  I made Strawbz and Peanut come for fresh air but they just wanted to hug my coffee and try to stay warm

Millie has been enjoying the snow up here!

(this was earlier this month - the snow pile is much larger now!)

On Friday, we ate Greek food:

(souvlaki, spanikopita, tyropita, greek salad)

& then Millie helped me make a character for our next D&D game!

(while drinking butter beer & listening to Star Trek: Next Generation!)

There were some outside events I wanted to attend over the weekend, but it was so cold we stayed inside instead. Today it's so cold (-19ºF/-28ºC, feels like -36ºF/-37.8ºC) that every school in town is closed (including the local university!).

Not much going on here, I may try to take Dani to work next week now that we are open again. I also have a last minute work trip to Monterey right before the end of the swap, so she might get to go on that one too. I won't have a car and will mostly be in a secure office building where photos are not encouraged, so tourist options are likely to be limited.

This weekend Dani helped me clean out some storage boxes in the basement

We worked on a felting project

And today we volunteered at the low cost shot clinic for the local SPCA. Good thing it warmed up this weekend since we were outside all afternoon!

Silly me ... I’ve been planning to take Peanut and Strawbz around to see the sights before they head home but didn’t get to it during our warm spell, so ... on the coldest day of our entire winter, bright and early we went touring.

Don’t let the sun fool you, it really was -36C (-32F)

Bit embarrassed to share our snow pic!!

The coldest it has got in the UK is -13C (not sure what the F is  ???) but that was right up in Scotland, so pretty much as far north as you can get. Here in the south we have been down to about -3C or so and had just a little snow, so Orange and I made a tiny snowman. I was going to find bits to make a face, but we wimped out and came back inside!  ;D

Echo and I did a museum visit as well.

We spent the weekend in Raleigh so we could go to the annual Astronomy Days at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Unfortunately there wasn't as much astronomy stuff to take pictures with as there has been at previous events but I got a few along with some pictures of the regular museum exhibits.

Echo got to ride on a robot.

And we saw an Echo-sized rover (When I asked the ladies who were running this exhibit table if I could pose Echo in the rover for a photo they thought it was really funny and we all couldn't stop laughing at how perfect it looks :D)

The giant snapping turtle happily wasn't lurking in the back of his enclosure. I might enjoy watching people walk by that exhibit and think it's just a big fish tank and then freak when they see the turtle a bit too much ::)

They also have a tank of those Day-Glo fish that have some jellyfish DNA so they glow under a blacklight.

The top floor of the museum is entirely devoted to insects and other arthropods. They have this super cool praying mantis sculpture right when you get off the escalator onto the floor. We did look at all the various critters but no buggy photos were taken.

After the museum we went to the local Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme is from NC and this location makes the doughnuts on site, so you can watch them being made.

And then of course we had to get some to eat.

We got back kinda late so boyfriend and I decided pizza for dinner was in order. Our local Pizza Hut has this claw machine filled with rubber ducks. It's play until you win so it's essentially a giant ducky vending machine.

Back home with our pizza and ducky prize.

Kyle and I (and Emma) just got back from an hour-long walk in 33*F (0*C... or would that be 0.5*C? or 1*C?) weather (and I stupidly only wore a long-sleeved shirt and leggings)...  that was warm compared to what it was week before last (-4*F / -20*C), but also cold compared to what it was week before last (61*F / 16*C).  I love the weather in the Midwest!

After spending a few hours at the airport on Sunday, the Monterey trip ended up not happening due to a broken plane and some airline ridiculousness. Since this was a work trip, I was not in the least upset by this.

Now Dani is helping me pack up a box so she can head home - possibly tomorrow if I can make it to the post office at work, since it might snow on Saturday morning.

Orenji and I are back from Cairo.  On my first flight of the trip my neighbor was traveling with a stuffed bear, so Orenji and he spent a bit of time together.

Orenji helped me shop,

eat,

and see the sights.

It's currently snowing again (up to four inches predicted), so I likely won't get the package mailed until Monday.

I swear, I will never not feel guilty that I didn't do enough when I get an LV package back!!!  This time is no exception.  OMG, guys, look what ptarmic wumpus sent back with Dani!!!

Obviously, I have a pumpkin thing, and all my friends that follow my PATT posts every year are going to be so in awe of this haul!!!  First, the stretchy amazing pumpkin fabric, an enormous felted pumpkin, and a pumpkin BASKET!! Hand made!

And zipper pouches, you can never have enough of those!

And TEA! I love tea!

Magnets and brochures and bookmarks, oh my!  I will have to look through these (and the scrapbook) more later, after work... :D

And amazing looking chocolate I'm trying not to eat right now because I'm starving and wouldn't appreciate and savor it enough!

Thank you so much, I'm not worthy! Watch, tonight I'll get home and find something else I was supposed to include in the box (that happens more frequently than I'd like) and feel even more over-spoiled!

Kyle made it home today, the postal worker actually put his box in the delivery bin, which never happens, so I didn't see him there for a bit. But, he got back before the ice storm starts and is now all snug and warm.

And he brought all kinds of goodies home with him!

There is a blood themed shirt and amigurumi blood drop (yes?), some rubber ducky friends, a new crab friend, a commemorative glass from Leawood KS, and souvenirs from the University of Kansas! He also has a cute little construction vest to wear.

And a ton of new reading material (perfect for being stuck in the house during ice storms, haha)

He showed me some of his adventures in his scrapbook, like this trip to the dentist and an encounter with Mr. Creepy Frog

Thanks for showing Kyle a great time, Smeddley!  Dani picked out the wacky pumpkin fabric at Spandex House in NYC, they had it on display near the front of the store since it was right before Halloween. I'm not sure what anyone does with poly-lycra squash print fabric, but maybe she has some ideas?

Yay! Replacement item arrived all in one piece so Echo will be on her way back tomorrow ;D

And no need for swap anxiety, it's really just a small item but it has a local connection and I have some other swap items that are related to it so I didn't want to leave it out. I had been hoping that I could find someone who carried it locally but I couldn't so internet to the rescue. Shopping online is great and all but sometimes it's just nice to be able to shop in an actual store and not have to play with the mail XD

I'm updating my records and will be sure to get feedback updated ASAP for those of you who have sent/received.

Anana is home! Look at all the great stuff he brought back from whatthepuck:

Beautiful scrapbook, postcards, notebook (which, as of this morning, has already gone into service helping me with meal planning), and his pizza costume from Halloween!

(The pizza box was not part of the package, it was dinner and I didn't bother moving it before unpacking Anana's box.) If you can't tell, the purple thing in the middle is a metal straw (I can never have enough of those)! The Christmas gift near the middle is...

A very pretty pineapple ornament! (I have yet to buy a new plastic bin to repack all our Christmas stuff in after moving, so I can actually slip this into the pile and not wonder where it went when I'm trying to gather Christmas stuff 8 months from now!)

Thank you, whatthepuck!

And I'm going to officially take a break from the LV swap for a while, so this was Anana's last trip for a while. With a new job, new home, planning to do a lot of health improvements over the next year (primarily, work my way up to a half marathon and lose 50 pounds), and hopefully starting a second Master's later this year, I don't want the swap to become an obligation rather than a fun thing I do. I'll still be stalking the boards from time to time though  ;D

The pineapple ornament is so fun!!!!

I can't wait for next round. I have a list of local places I'm just now learning about and want to try out, and it'll be more fun with a LV to take with me.

Orange arrived home earlier this week with a huge amount of loot in tow.

His scrapbook alone is amazing, full of pictures and interesting information about all his journeys.  The British ribbon was around one package and I thought it would make a great remembrance tie.

Thanks suueedee for being such a great hostess,

The ribbon looks great on Orange. I was worried the mug wouldn't make it in one piece, so pleased it did.

I almost didn't sign up this year, but was so happy I did, it was so fun hosting Orange.

Echo is home, and apparently she had a great time with WingsoftheWind.  There's so much loot I had to put it in two pictures!  Everything was wrapped so nicely, but being the heathen I am I didn't take any photos of that because I was too busy tearing into the box.  Here is the scrapbook, a favorite book of WOTW, hand painted seasonal magnets, the pretty bags things were in, and a magazine about North Carolina.  That biscuit cover is just killing me!  Oh, and there's also Echo's new Santa hat that fits her fin just fine, thank you.

Next up is all kinds of paper ephemera including a Krispy Kreme hat and postcards of barns with quilts on them.  I love this tradition, and the Seven Sisters pattern on the top card is a favorite pattern.  There's also a rubber duck and dancing jewelry.

I'm honored to have been your first LV swap partner, and I hope you'll do another round (or twenty)!  Thanks again!

Millie arrived home yesterday and brought back a ton of goodies from her stay with jellybean89!

We've got so many informative books, maps, and guides for the area, plus cookies, can cozies, playing cards, bookmarks, and cup! Not to mention, the best part - a handmade fox!

*squee!* Look how adorable!! OMG. It's so amazingly made and the tail design lets it stand up on it's own. Brilliant. I love foxes and this is so cute!!

Inside the scrapbook, we had even more items! Magnets and a ton of postcards!! (what a great idea!)

And all the pages are detailed with information about the photo, what they did that day, etc.

Thank you so much, jellybean89!! What an awesome package!!

Yay! I'm glad you like it! (and the rest! :))

I used the Michigan hand map for the front of the scrapbook because we really do use our hands to show people where we're from!

(& the Cloverland magazine had an article about the sled dog race - one of the events I wanted to go to, but it was just too cold to be outside!)

We use our hands to show where we are from Alaska, too! Fist bump!

Orenji arrived back home today from his first Little Visitor Trip!

I love the cover photo for the scrapbook, it's so cute!

Some of the items deserved their own photos :)

This lovely bit of quilting

(Fixed it, it was upside down)

This glass ornament from Cairo. It's so pretty (and I'm so impressed that you shipped it :o)

Orenji was also very excited to show me the artwork he did in his sketchbook

Bonus pic (cause it's cool), Snickers bar in Arabic

I really enjoyed this and thanks for being a great first host Eamea :D

I'm so glad it arrived with everything intact!  Happy you like the mug rug - I'm afraid the Pathfinder logo isn't as prominent as I'd hoped, but hopefully you can see it.  I was going for a dragon-y feel.  ::)  One of the strangest things in Cairo is seeing American brands.  DH always gets a kick out his Egyptian Snickers, and I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.

Pixel is home! :D

Here she is with some fun things from her travels: scrapbook, stocking with a Florida ornament, shells from the beach!, a really cool knife from Native Spirit Museum & Gallery, Heritage Village pencil & flamingo art, and a pineapple keychain & tree of life necklace made by phoenixfiredesigns!!

The great scrapbook & things from inside it: maps/info from places they went, postcard, spell scroll, little sketchbook, & a cute cat pumpkin! :)

- I'm a bit jealous of the beach pictures! :D (it's so cold & snowy here!)

A closer look at the necklace because it's awesome! ;D

Thank you so much phoenixfiredesigns!!!

It's working for me, but it looks like others are having issues with it: Site Issues Thread (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=456791.msg5518791#msg5518791)

So, Strawberry and her new best friend, Peanut, arrived home before the weekend, but I was away all weekend, so only just had a chance to take and upload pics.

First up, I was amazed that Homerof2 managed to get everything in such a small envelope, but then was amazed to find this -

A note was included to say that I just needed to cut their bags open to release them!

The parcel included a lovely note, a photo album full of pics....

And the most lovely coaster, which is already on my desk.

In the photo album, there were more gifts, Homerof2's favourite gum (have not had a chance to try it yet, but looking forward to trying it, sounds amazing!) and a polar bear magnet. I am not sure whether you knew this or not, Homerof2, but I adore polar bears so much, so this made me squeal.

My favourite page in the photo album is this one, with Strawberry wearing her borrowed sunglasses :D

And finally, released from their travelling bags, they soon appeared to be right as rain!

Thank you for a fantastic swap  :-*

I was wondering how LV would do if they traveled like that! It's good to know they can make the journey safely that way.

Vacuum sealing is such a great idea, and I'm thinking it could become a general trend on Craftster!   :D  Just think of how much we could all be saving on postage!  ;D

I've had that gum, and it is DELICIOUS!

I always end up sending a too big box and stuffing it with grocery store bags so everything doesn't roll around.

Hi guys! So from what I've received and seen in the gallery it looks like everyone has sent. I've updated your feedback accordingly.

I'm getting ready to post the new sign ups but I'm changing one thing- from now on the rules will state the LV has to be a stuffed animal. If you have a huge issue with this please PM me. But the past few times that anyone has sent art dolls, etc it hasn't worked out well. I tried just stating that the LV needs to be sturdy, but everyone has their own idea what that means. So this seems like the best way to prevent issues. Also, as a reminder for anyone new to the swap, as far as stuffies go - nothing gory or political please.

I did a terrible job organizing this round and I'm sorry. Life just about did me in this winter. I swear this coming round will be better :)

I'm not sure how you did a terrible job.  ???  Everyone got partners and all LVs made it back home safely.  I think you did a swell job!  Now that I think about I don't recall ever thanking you for organizing, so thank you!

But 29 will be better :D

Baranof came home from his visit to California with a fantastic scrapbook and souvenirs!

There was a little light up cube that didn't make the group shot because my toddler snapped it up-

Thank you so much RaraAvis!

Marshmallow came home from Scotland! And I was really spoiled!

Here are some photos:

There were originally 6 bug gummies but, of course, the kids already ate three lol. And there were more pencils but two were grabbed. I believe the only thing not pictured is a lovely crochet poppy pin that Máire took right away and has gone to a party.
I love the earwarmer headband. I was just looking at a pattern for one bc I'm outside at school/work a lot and it's been freezing so thank you! I'm excited to try the tea and I am over the moon about my little Bilbo Lego magnet!!!!!! My little hero!!

Thank you so much, Kat. And I love all of the detail comments you put in the photo album! Thank you, thank you!! Or should I say, "Merci!" As both Máire and I are learning French as well. Too funny!

Thank you again WildFyre!  I agree - you didn't do anything wrong this round. I hope things are looking up now!
And I'm off to check into the new round. :-)

Wiggly Worm has made it back home. Wildfyre sent a lovely package!

The chocolate is delicious and the mug is really nice and heavy duty.

I love this little tote bag, it is a great size.

And some fun pages from the scrapbook...

Thanks so much for swapping Wildfyre!!!! And don't worry, I think you did a great job organizing this round!
