Title: Printed Cotton & Linen Hand Towels (lotsa pics)
Post by: TheMistressT on September 14, 2017 06:55:30 PM
This project was started about a year ago, then halted by running out of linen. Lots of the prints and all the trims came from stash.

For everyday in the main bathroom:

For everyday in the upstairs bathroom:

For October in the main bathroom:

For October in the upstairs bathroom:

Linen on the back for added structure and absorbency. Also, I just freaking LOVE LINEN!

And, of course, I have a few more started, but need just a little something to finish. Next year? Hopefully sooner, because I have some winter prints I want to use!

These are great! I especially like the skull & crossbones one.

The toothpaste is my favorite, the DotD is great, and the skulls and crossbones are funny.  The pinecones fit with your decor, and the turquoise one is my favorite color.
nice work!

Serious question: do you ever sleep? You are so productive. Love your new towels, especially the pinecones. Oh, what am I saying...I like 'em all.

Thanks guys!

All of them are great but the toothpaste one cracks me up.

Isn't that a hoot? Heidi G sent me the link to that a couple years ago and I ordered 1 measly yard all the way from Japan. It was expensive, but I HAD to have it to go with my collection.

Ha! And thanks! I sleep a lot actually. What I don't do as much as I should is sweep... and similar activities. Ahem.  ::) And, of course, I've been stuck in the house for a few weeks because of the stupid wildfire. I don't feel like I can leave w/o the dog and it has been too hot to take her in the car after about 10:00 AM.  :-\

I am SO IN LOVE with newsprint skull & crossbones print.  Where did that come from?!?!?!?!

It's so great, isn't it? I almost never buy fabric w/o a plan, but I couldn't help but pick up this as a fat quarter. Unfortunately the selvage on my piece isn't the one with the info. :( I got it at Craft Warehouse in Beaverton, Oregon about a year ago.

ADDENDUM: I found a reference to this as a Riley Blake print.

What great fabrics! I, too, am digging that toothpaste print! I don't know why I never thought to make towels for my bathroom! I like the idea of adding linen to the back for extra weight. And, your selection of fancy trims are perfect for the fabrics you've used.

And, thinking about all of the people (and wildlife) who are being affected by the wildfires is breaking my heart! I hope that you're fortunate enough that the blaze doesn't reach you (a friend in Oregon has been watching the fires and evacuation orders close in- I'd be a nervous wreck!). I'm glad that you have crafting to keep you occupied!

Isn't it a hoot? I collect foreign toothpaste tubes and have them displayed in shadow boxes in one of the bathrooms, so when a friend saw this print she sent me a link! Came all the way from Japan and cost a pretty penny, but I had to have it!

Thank you! They are fun to make, but I admit all the doodling around with the trims means that they don't come together as quickly as I would like.

And thank you for your thoughts. We got got a couple days of light, steady rain here and snow higher up where the main fire is which has helped slow the fire and diminished the smoke quite a bit for us. And the path of the fire is such that is finally seems to have passed us. Of course, that doesn't mean all are safe. And all the critters... I suppose this fire had at least something to do with several houses in our "neighborhood" being hit hard by mice this summer.

Well, at least mice are easy to deal with, and it's definitely better than bears! And, glad some rain has made it your way. Maybe some moisture from a hurricane can make its way north for you... but probably not, the way our weather patterns go :(  When does snow usually start to fly up your way?

I think we have our normal amount of bears, perhaps fewer deer as I haven't seen any in a few weeks. We are at just below 4000' and generally get our first snow in October some time. But we can see snow above 5000' starting this time of year, usually. Last year our first snow was mid-Sept! But it didn't stick around and I think even by Thanksgiving we didn't have any accumulation. We're west of the divide so get all our weather from the Pacific side of things!  ;)

"Normal" amount of bears- LOL! We had one in the neighborhood (mama with 2 cubs) a couple of years ago, and it was big news. I live in a city, but towards the edge, not far from a reservoir so we get occasional visitors- I've seen deer, foxes, hawks, and frequently of late, wild turkeys. We've had a moose on the loose in the area several years back (before I lived in this part of the city).

I have a question about your towels- what size are they?

I just saw a post that a mountain lion has been spotted in the area! It seems like this is the time of year they come around for a bit.  :o

They vary a little, but they are cut to about 25" x 15.5" with ~.5" seams. If the trims are dangly, that changes them a bit, of course.  ::)

Mountain lions! I've heard they can appear farther north in New England, but I don't think we'll see one down here.

And, thanks for the size info!

I love the use of trims on these; what a great detail.
