I'd love to do this one again but I'm going to be away until 1st October so I don't think I can manage it.  But I'm really looking forward to seeing all the little houses.

what sort of themes have people chosen in the past?
to me, halloween would be the theme - but i guess that's not specific enough  :-\

If you like Halloween in general you could choose specific colors or patterns.  Or silly/gory/gothic.  Or specific aspects like jack-o-lanterns or full moons.  Does that help?

thanks for the link!

being new to these, i don't quite know... how much wiggle room is there in the dimensions? i mean, i assume 1" width and depth, but as far as height goes is there a general rule?

or can you have a crazy gothic inchie house that's 4" tall?
or i suppose it might depend on your partners' preferences?

That is a good question.  I'm not sure we've discussed roof height before.  In my opinion, the body of the house is 1x1"... roofs are higher.  You can add another inch or two for the roof.  If you had a four inch house, you'd have a one inch body and a 3 inch roof.  That's a steep roof!

what if we did a house with a body that's  1/2 an inch by 2 inches? Or should we all just stick to inch square?

That would alright.  I don't have any problems with that.

On the first post I added a link to a pinterest board I made with examples of inchie houses  (and tiny houses in general).  I figured that would be easier than creating a bunch of links.

me too!
i would love to hear how our seasoned inchie house crafters have made theirs in the past. do you cut inch squares and glue them on? or do you print out on one sheet of paper and cut out? how do you hide your seams? do you make them all the same and add embellishments to personalize them? i would love to see a tutorial or a process video just for reference...hint, hint. lol.

I print out a template on cardstock, then I trace around it onto decorative paper.  I cut the paper and adhere it to the house.  Personally, I like to make everyone's houses different.  One I may cut out a window, while the other I might adhere paper to make it look like a window.  One I may color or stamp interesting things on the interior, while another one I may just leave alone (especially if it's a house that doesn't have a view of the interior).
For example:  One of the houses is probably going to have fake moss on it.  I'll glue it on with E600 or Loctite Gel Control Superglue.  I use Mod Podge for papers and smooth it out with a bone folder.
Part creativity, part materials, part tools.

Use an Xacto knife.  It's very precise.

As to the houses themselves Im torn between making a set of 'limited edition' Matching/Semi related houses, or making each one completely different

Things to do before starting little houses:
-Make my Halloween costume - DONE - except for the mask...lots of drying time and it's humid out there right now.
-Make two quilt squares for a quilt donation project - DONE
-Make 24-30 prayer flag blanks for a class on Oct 3rd.

No problem...they are little right?

After only thinking about inchie houses and finishing up some other bits and pieces of crafts in progress. I got started today on the houses. I'm stalled now at "let the #%$# glue dry" stage. Ah, dinner sounds like a good idea.

I found a wonderful surface for the walls of some of the houses...sand paper, very fine, it makes a great surface.

Sandwich them between cardstock.  Or cereal box cardboard.  Write "non-machinable" on them.  I forget if that requires extra postage... I don't think it does.

So they don't get eaten by the automated cancelling machine. I write hand cancel. But something to indicate that they should not be put through the mangler.
