Post your images here!  Please try to post a picture of the cover and at least 5 pictures of different pages.  IF you can do a collage(s) that would be great.

I have received from LimeRiot and it's awesome!  I love it.  It's full of cool "junk". LimeRiot thought maybe I could use the journal for my ATCs and that's a great idea.

First the cover is made of brown paper bag (I think). And has an elastic band to hold stuff.  Like this bingo card that can be used for a bookmark

Look at how stuff it is!

I made collages of my pages.  The collage utility (from google) did not keep the pics in the right order but I suppose it doesn't really matter.  Hopefully you can see all the details.  If there is a pic you want to see more clearly, let me know and I will post it.

The first image on the middle row actually shows the inside cover.

This collage shows some little tags and a brown bag. I really like the painted areas.  (I think it's paint.  it's too smooth to be gesso.  Unless it was sanded?)

In this collage, there are several more envelopes and pockets.  I love pockets.  and I really like the use of the doily.

In this next collage, the first pic has a cool burlap pocket. And there are several places I can tuck or attach ATCs.

An ATC junk journal is a brilliant idea! Mine are just sitting in a plastic baggie  :D I love the neutral tones with pops of red! Very cool.

Glad that it arrived safely and that you like it, geekgirl!! Rather than clean up the mess I made while working on it, I think I'll just wallow in the mess for a while and make another journal :D.

The cover is made from a grocery bag that I soaked, crinkled up, hung to dry and then ironed to flatten a bit. Then I glued it to some light cardboard for sturdiness.

Excited to see this gallery fill up!

What a great start to the gallery limeriotyou did a fantastic job!
I'm just getting going on mine... just got back from being with my mom and dad.  Dad is not well...his time is short.  Not sure how long I have to get this done.   :-\ But I will give it 110%

So sorry to hear about your dad, jkaywiz. The loss of a parent at any age is always a great upheaval, even if you think you're quite prepared for it.

I love the idea of making a junk journal with pockets to hold ATCs. Like most people, I've been struggling to figure out how to store them and yet make them available to look at. This seems a great solution.

I received a gorgeous journal today from LovelyMiss!  I'm getting the photos ready to share now.   :)

Post by: greybird on July 21, 2016 03:07:04 PM
I received the loveliest junk journal today from, lovelymiss!   :D   She really accounted for my tastes in colors and birds and style of journal that I love.  :)   It's awesome and I love everything about it!

First of all is the gorgeous cover featuring what I believe is a Carolina wren, a bird I adore and see frequently in my backyard.   :)   The journal is held shut with a lovely long cord with my favorite colors.  The cord comes off completely when I want to open the journal and I just wrap it around and tuck in the ends when I'm ready to shut it.   :)   She also sent a very pretty notecard.  Did you make it?   :)

Here is a shot of it standing up so you can see the spine, bits and bobs of ribbon and the charm hanging from the spine.  :)   The spine has molded raised cords on it.   She has sewn the signatures together too.   :)  Did you make the cover or is it upcycled from another book?  It's really lovely!

And now for the inside!   There are so many lovely pages, I can't pick just one favorite.  And pocketses and sewn pages and ribbons and washi and envies and tag inserts.  It's so rich with textures and variety!    :)   I see something new everytime I look through it.   :)

On to the photos!  The first is a close up of the charm, and then the rest is approx every couple pages from inside the book.

And, no, that is not a wand from Ollivander's.  :)  Alas!   That is a chop stick so I could hold the pages open flat while I was taking photos.    :D

Thank you SO MUCH, LovelyMiss!!    :-*    I absolutely adore my journal!!!!!    :D   :D   :D   :D

Love that journal from geekgirl!  Lots of fun stuff in there!

greybird, again, I am so happy that you like it!  I did make the card, and the cover was just a blank hardboard cover I picked up somewhere along the way.  Not really sure of its origins or intended purpose...but it worked out great for the hidden binding.  I added the papers and corner caps, and vintage-d up the edges and spine a little to tie it all together.  Thanks for sharing so many pictures!

My turn! My turn!! I received an awesome junk journal from our organizer, geekgirl. I've been having so much fun flipping through all of the unique pages and brainstorming what I'll do with it.

Here's the cover! The binding is so cool and I love all of the cool junk spilling out of it.

I had to feature a picture of my favorite page. GOOGLEY EYES!!!!

Look at the teeny little envelope in the corner of this page. So dang cute.

All of the pages are awesome! There are lots of little envelopes and tuck spots hidden throughout. Here are some more of my favorites...

THANK YOU, geekgirl! I love my journal and appreciate you introducing all of us to the wonderful world of junk :).

Jkaywiz - wishing you and your family peace and blessings.  Crafting at least can be therapeutic in hard times, so I hope you can lose yourself in a good way in your creativity.

These journals are great!  I love the video you made rscowtown - a great way to share all the pages!

Wow - so far everyone has gone above and beyond it looks like!  I really hope mine is up to snuff.  I likely will be shipping tomorrow myself.  I would like to make some more pages for it, but right now, it's sitting agape as it is!

These projects make me deliriously happy! I struggle with "loosey goosey" so I don't think this swap would have been for me, but I LOVE odd, offset, "spillage", hodge-podge, etc. in all of these journals.

We have GOBS of holiday cards at work, and I believe I will be hitting everyone up after the season is over so I have something to work with to try it out on a smaller scale.

Ya'll are so creative!!  Good job!

J.

This has made me learn to embrace the junkiness.  I had been wanting to play with using orange oil on magazine pages for a bit - and I used that in this to use advertising, to keep the images I want and make open/blank space for journaling.

Orange oil? That's really interesting. I'm going to have to check this out.

Orange oil? That's really interesting. I'm going to have to check this out.

Yes, you can use orange oil concentrate (Citrasolv, Orange TKO, and I think Orange Apeel) to transfer images, and as a solvent.

Here is what I posted when I used Orange TKO to transfer onto fabric

http://onyxnox.blogspot.ca/2013/06/orange-tko-for-image-transfer.html

I have used it to transfer onto metal too for etching, and it does help to lift colour/images off printed pages to make for a mixed media background or paper.

I am loving this gallery and I am looking forward to making more junk journals in the future.

Sarasmile - I hope you aren't still stressing!  I think junk journals are open to interpretation and there is no "wrong" way to make them!

Treemoon - great job, your journal looks great.  I recognize some of those pages.  I have some of the same papers!

greybird - I absolutely love the cat cover you made.  Nice job on the signatures.  I took the easy way out and used PerfectlyBohemian's Cinch machine but next time I definitely want to try sewing signatures now that I know what I am doing! LovelyMiss - you take some really good pictures.

jkaywiz - your journal is lovely.  great pages you have included. Love that lace on the cover.

I love seeing everyone's beautiful books. How fun would it be to get together and paint and glue and make beautiful messes and oops-es in our journals?

To that end - how about a craft along so we can show off finished pages and ask questions and of course, look at more photos? I am happy to start the thread - let me know if this sounds interesting to you.

These all look great and I love how much variety we've got within the theme! I am super excited/nervous for my partner to receive her journal eek.

Everyone has managed to put so much personality into what are essentially 'blank' journals and that is so very awesome to see.

I received an absolutely gorgeous journal from Onyxnox this week! It features a little bit of everything from my themes and it is all so well put together and has so many awesome little details. And there are so many pages! And lots of tags, and charms, and lace! I tried to narrow down my favorites, but that's like half the book. So here we go :D

There's this one page that is actually a Basmati rice bag with the snap still intact acting like an envelope!

And there's an awesome quote at the end <3

Lots of the pages have this very dimensional layering and pages sewn together:

And look! Pressed flowers <3 <3 <3

Oxy that journal is AMAZING! \O/ And now here's MY lovely art journal! Sarasmile is a closet fantasy artist ;) I just know it! Her book is full of whismy and wonderful mixes of materials. I LOVE it. LOVE!

The Cover: For some reason photobucket didn't want to rotate stuff for me and is being a butthead so you might get a bit of a crick in yer neck looking but at least they're posted!  :D

The first page and strangely, one of my favorties. It's a very pleasing design :D

ADORABLE Hearts! <3

The cutest little birds in the world

PEACOCK FEATHER!! *_*

A "wood" cut out faeire ;)

Probably my two favorite things on ONE page: Travel and MUSIC!  ;D

Gawd -_- Crappy blurry pic of a lovely silhouette and cut out/silhouette from a book page

Nene Thomas and shiny pretty pastel bubbles! <3

Hee hee, reminds me of my sister and I  :D

Beautiful water color dragonflies. I freaking love watercolor!

And Sara was thoughtful enough to make it as a "binder" set up so I can add pages at my leisure, which I really like. She was silly to worry! We've bonded over the experience and I am VERY glad I can call her friend as well as have some of her artwork for my personal use. It was a LOVELY swap! Although my journal is someone less....artsy :< And I feel bad for that. But the one I sent is sure full of writing space, that's for sure  ::)

Pioneer9 included some nicely decorated pages.  I really like the heart with Chinese writing.

Smmarrt, I think a craft-along is a good idea.  I would love to see what others do with their pages.

I love that cover by Onyxnox.  It's beautiful.

Sarasmile - I love the colorsyou used on thos pages. Are some of those hand-drawn?  The little birds, the dandelion, the design opposite the music/map page, and the page with the circles?  Those are some awesome pages.  I really like the circles and the design opposite the music/map page

I have received from rscowtown but have not had time to get pics during daylight hours yet!  I hope to do that this evening.

Me, too. I don't want to "mess up" any of the really arty pages but these books are meant to be used so I want to really try to dive in and get arty. One artist I follow on YouTube, kagedfish, makes little journals out of candy boxes (like the ones you get at the movies) and she assigns a theme to each page and then collects things for that theme - butterflies, birds, hands, eyes, etc. I think she calls them Scavenger Hunt journals and it's her way of using up all the bits and pieces she saves. There is another artist, Shannon Greene, who does something similar but in a much larger book and she calls it En Masse journaling - a sort of glue book/scrapbook hybrid.

I will set up the thread later tonight. Hope my book from DearBluebird is waiting for me when I get home today!

I received my delightfully spooky journal from Calixita today and wow she absolutely nailed my tastes. Thankyou so much!

Trying (and failing)to be helpful I made my list of likes super detailed and somehow rather than cursing my name and running away she managed to get a bit of everything in here.

Behold the beautiful (and sturdy) cover:

From the top - Index cards with my initials <3

some close ups because these pages are full of so many clever details

I don't know how you did this C. but i love the swirly, shiny marbled effect

mermaid, mushroom and music oh my!

I received a wonderfully junky junk journal from rscowtown.

The side of the journal:

The front with all kinds of misc junk:

The back with the Ketchup tab!  The cover is made from a McDonalds bag.

Lot's of cool and interesting painted pages.  Is it gelli prints?  Looks like maybe gelli printing on top of waxed paper and the wax paper was used to cover pages from the 3 little pigs :)

Lots of pockets and envelopes and tags!

The first pic on the 2nd row is a pocket made from a gum pack.  Cool idea!

Thanks so much rscowtown!

Oh dear! I'm so glad you like it!! I was so worried!! I think my favorite pages are the fairy cutout and the peacock page :) The first page of the NYS Capital and a couple of the other pages were taken from a book that I found. It was from 1942 and all about the NYS Government...and since I'm from NY, I thought I'd add a little :)

GAH!! Calixita!! That journal is sooooo cool!!

Yes, they were hand drawn...sort of LOL The birds are drips of watercolor that I drew the bird shape out of whatever came out of them. The dandelion was watercolored around a circle and then I drew in the puffs. The bubbles are circles that I watercolored, then covered in glue and then watercolored the page over the top of it. The design page was freehanded and then colored in with a bunch of gel pens :)

Sarasmile - I love the colorsyou used on thos pages. Are some of those hand-drawn?  The little birds, the dandelion, the design opposite the music/map page, and the page with the circles?  Those are some awesome pages.  I really like the circles and the design opposite the music/map page

yup ketchup tag is from my work, we had burgers one nite and the labels were falling off the bottles cuz it was so humid so i grabbed them up; i ate the M&M's and used the box; recycled mail is all over the covers. gelli prints, and yes pages from the three little pigs (Im doing a wolf journal for one of my little sisters, and put the non-wolf pages in my to be used box); it was a hoot to put together, and theres enough room for an extra signature if you want to add one. Glad you like it, it was fun to create!

My goodness!  I'm loving all the gelli prints!  So cool!  And how people incorporate actual "junk" in various ways into the journals!

That marbled effect that I made came from alcohol gels.  I used a lot of book jackets in the journal which have great images but also shiny, plain surfaces that are harder to write on or adhere things to.  I tried to remedy that a bit with paint and collages.  The inside of book jackets are perfect for alcohol inks however!

I really love all the different takes everyone took on this swap, and the cool pieces of ephemera I am seeing.  I have a terrible habit, thanks to this forum, of now looking at everything and wanting to hoard it for crafting - from wrappers, to transfers, to junk on the ground.

I received from PerfectlyBohemian last week and have been waiting to get my camera back from a friend... she sent a beautiful journal, chock full of pages, and this is just a sampling of it.  I love that she went with my love of gardening/nature, and there were several Alice in Wonderland pages too - *LOVE*!

The cover.

The inner cover and first page - love the little envelope!

Alice and the forgetful little faun!!!!  Alice!!!

Adorable little forest creatures in pocket and tag form!

Cool painted streaks and a gorgeous bluebird page

Lavender!

A really cool coastal scene

Another cool pocket with vintage photo - love it!

One of several cool layered pages with another vintage photo - flamingos - love all the birds!

Another nature inspired page, with bird stamps.  Love the use of the notecard for journaling space.

Fantastic little ad on this page - love it especially because there used to be a bar DH and I used to go to called the 3 Monkey's.

This angel with the googly eyes made me laugh :)

The back cover with a great tag with the swap info - great idea!

The back cover.

Thanks PerfectlyBohemian for a gorgeous journal - this was a fun swap and thanks for being my partner!

OHHHkay now I'm a little fearful that my journal wasn't "JUNK" enough X_X I do have some random stuff but it's not nearly as voluminous as these beautiful and artsy pages. I guess I'm just not a trash to treasure gal  ::)

BEAUTIFUL journals from PerfectlyBohemian and rscowtown!! I love the colors and fun tags and envelopes everywhere.

"PerfectlyBohemian" I love all your pages. Forest creatures, lavender page, birds. Also putting your signature on a tag. I love that. I all most did that. But didn't think I should! Awesome Junk Journal! I have so many new ideas for next time!

I'm  going to put pics in for "jkaywiz" for the Junk Journal I made her! It's not as good as all of you people. It's my first junk journal. So here goes!

k

I know lots of pics. But wanted to show most things. Hope you like it. There's a few more things in some of the pockets to put in the journal or for another one. Thanks again! ;D

I am posting what I sent to DearBluebird -she received last week.

I am a part of Wanderlust - an on-line art class that lasts all year long. This method of re-purposing books was one of the lessons but I had seen tutorials on YouTube with some of the ideas.

This is a cloth hard covered book - I left it white so DearBluebird could paint or collage it herself. It was a Chinese novel and I did add some of the pages inside.

This is my first book made with the Cropadile Big Bite - I love it - easy to use and I love to punch holes in things. But more than that - I love adding grommets. This is much easier than the thing I bought from the hardware store last year.

I used seam binding to tie it - it was a bit bulky so next time I will use hemp or linen thread.

This is the inside - I covered the spine with a piece of muslin (see my post in the Junk Journal-along) and then covered that with fabric.

And for the inside pages I used book text, file folders, maps, Gelli prints, catalogs, vintage magazine pages, calendars, coloring book pages, envelopes and library pockets.

I stuffed it - there were a few tags and library/book borrower cards and other scrapbook-y things for DearBluebird to use.
I hope she enjoys it and gets some use out of it. It's fat but she can always remove pages or a whole signature.

So first, I must apologize to IsikkahJai. I received my journal a while ago but I have just been so crazy busy with work, craft shows and life in general that uploading pics to Craftster was the last thing I wanted to think about.

IsikkahJai made me an AMAZING journal that I just can't stop looking at!! It has so many pages and all of them are so perfect! I asked for a Pagan journal and she did a fantastic job! I only took pics of some of my most favorite pages because there are so many! I love the tiny envelopes, the Harry Potter pages and especially the ASL pages!! I work with people with disabilities and have an obsession with ASL so those pages really touched my heart! Oh, and did I mention that it's tied with the power of 3? I'm not sure that was intentional but I believe it was :) Thank you sooooo much!!

I spent all weekend looking out for my package.  Finally today I got up on tiptoes and shoved my hand all the way to the bottom of my mail box, which is placed just freakishly high enough that I can't see the bottom for some reason, and sure enough I find a slip of paper crammed into the bottom that they tried to deliver on the 10th but they need my signature so now I have to go pick it up.  I could have had it a week ago!   Oh well.  It's in my hands now and it's amazing.  I took one quick photo at work.  .  This is just the cover with a beautiful doily and some of the sweet little bats scattered throughout!  Many more photos will be forthcoming.  Tarteaucitron did a wonderful job and I can't wait to show it off to you all!!

Here's the inside of my fabulous journal!!  (I'm one of those computer morons and was unable to figure collage or a slideshow so forgive the overload of photos!)
