Is that nightmare Before Christmas one made, or is it printed fabric as a blank?

Title: Re: Yet Another TM Patch Swap- R7! Gallery
Post by: LadybugsAndBumblebees on June 28, 2016 02:48:23 PM
Thanks for the compliments, everyone!  The Nightmare Before Christmas one is ready to be stitched up around the edges with the DMC thread and decorated.  I just sandwiched some fleece between the two fabrics and left it up to audio how she wanted to finish it off.

In the middle of the flower on the bird patch is a pink skull...it was fun to twist my thinking to audio's likes in themes.   :D

I sent ale's package the same time that I did audio's...it should have been there already.  I hope she got it.  :-\

I had fun making them, I hope you like them!

My patches are usually bigger too, but both my partners this round had maximum sizes so I decided to use up the smallest of my scraps!

LadybugsAndBumblebees, you have some fabulous fabrics to use for patches! I never look for fabrics like those, but I might have to start bulking up my stash! Nice patches for ale0059.

And, you got a great set of patches and supplies from audio! I also love the turtle patch!

I got a great set of patches from jenleahlynn today, and I'll get pictures posted by tomorrow!

Here are my patches from jenleahlyn. They are amazing and I love them!

First up, a suspension bridge!

The back is as neatly stitched as the front!

Next, a telescope stitched onto "Starry Night" fabric! I love, love, love the colors in this one!

And finally, an extra patch she included because, while she loved the moon phase fabric, she didn't know exactly what to do with it. Challenge accepted!   :D

Thanks so much!

I think I'm close to stitching them together! I have 2 plus the moon phase patch to finish, and then I could start. I can add additional patches at any point if I use some spacers.

That suspension bridge is wonderful! My mind immediately said "Golden Gate" when I saw it. That's probably the colour... love your work, jenleahlyn!

I love the Baltic fabrics too!
""jenleahlyn" your patches are beautiful! I like the bridge one the most & the moon patch would be fun too. Great job!!

I received my patches from noodle-bug yesterday in a gorgeous "extra" (we agreed to swap something HP Burrows as well... but noodle, we agreed SMALL ... that is not a small!! :o ).

The patches:

Very cute small patches! And such great stitching! Lovely extra patches for me to finish as well. I love that DH symbol, and the polar bear is just adorable!

And here's the extra. ;)

Love it all, noodle! Fabulous!! :D Thank you!

The drawers were a ready-made blank that I decorated, so it is less work than it looks! I'm just glad you like it all :D

I also received today from galaapples, she chose two if my favorite films as themes - I love these patches!

The minion patch is hand drawn in fabric markers (or something similar) and the littlefoot badge is from a custom set she had made recently - how lucky am I to have been partnered with her just in time to get one!

It's great seeing them all in a stream - I especially love the antique telescope! I hope you'll let us see the sewn-together science quilt.

Because there may (or may not) be a Canada Post lock-out (or strike) on Monday, I sent mine off to fatewineroses by Expedited Mail on Wednesday. It should be safely across the border well ahead of any postal shut-down here. RovingAnarchist and I just decided to avoid the whole thing and meet up to exchange packages, since we live in the same city.

She made two quite small borderless patches (I find I really like the little ones!) that are so perfect for me:

Did you dye the fabric on the tree patch just for this, Milo, or did it just happen to be so perfect? The dense, black stitching is very lush and textural, too.

But that's not all - there were extras:

A quarter-meter of cocktail print fabric that is so fantastic, I can't stop looking at it. I don't know what I'm going to make out this, but it'll be spectacular! :D

One of the advantages of exchanging in person is that she could give me an entire package of fleece! I actually didn't have any of the right thickness for patches, so I've been faking it with some rayon batting I had, but it's not right either. Now I can make 1,000,000 patches! :D And there are crewel needles (perfect for fat floss stitching), needle threaders (embarrassingly needed) and some DMC floss. Believe it or not, the red is exactly the colour I was wishing I'd had for one of the patches I sewed! It was a great help that RovingAnarchist and I finally got to meet at the Craftster meet-up a couple weeks ago. She knew exactly what I wanted, and I hope I got hers right, too.

Wow! I am away for a bit and boom! An explosion of patches!

Inselaeffchen, fantastic collection, with great blanks to play with, and a lovely extra to keep patch-making goodies in!

Noodle-bug, I love the Minion patch, but it's pretty cool that you got a custom button on the Littlefoot patch.

Jkaywiz, what a great set of patches! I love how the stitching on the Star Wars fabric adds so much dimension to the patch!

Wulf, that tree patch is amazing! Every time I look at it, I see a different image in the tangled branches. It's great that you and Roving Anarchist got to meet up to swap, because your extras were great!

I'll update status tomorrow. I'm burning through my data plan, so I'll be hitting free wifi tomorrow.

I love the variety of ways the patches are made, the variety in subject matter, and all the differences!  The gallery for this swap is always amazing!

Title: Re: Yet Another TM Patch Swap- R7! Gallery

For the tree patch, I actually did the stitching on white fabric, and then Sharpie dyed it to get the colours where I wanted them. That turned out to be a bit more neon that what I'd imagined, so I ended up doing several rounds of tea and coffee staining on it to tone it down a bit. I'm almost happy with how it came out.

Your technique for doing the tree is fantastic!  I will definitely have to try that!  It is very lovely...and I must say, I am liking the borderless look...I think it really calms the pieces...I will have to include some of those in my the next swap...

Okay, I think I have the status correctly updated for everyone. Please let me know if I've made a mistake. I'm jumping between my phone and my iPad, so I may have missed something.

And, it looks as though there won't be a lockout/strike for Canada Post right now. Whew!

I have been following along, watching all the new patches pop up on the board. This swap never fails to put out some amazing work. Alas, I have been a horrible partner. To go along with a delay in getting out my patches to my partners, I was unable to get to my PO Box until Saturday and my patches from audio languished in the mail for DAYS!

And they don't deserve it. Because they are AWESOME! Not only were my patches AWESOME; but audio spoiled me. Please see below.

This patch from Firefly has my eyes following the little stitches along their swirly path. This was the perfect fabric to do this patch on. And the back is, of course, galaxy fabric. Perfection!

And next we have a Star Wars patch. Specifically, the helmet of Finn. Backed with classic Star Wars fabric...another perfect patch. I still don't know which of these are my favorite. I have them currently sitting on my desk here at work with me and every once in a while I will glance down at them.

My extras start out with these beautiful batik patches. I currently don't have enough batik fabric in my life. I really like the choices audio made.

The rest of my stash came in this little bag.

This piece deserves it's own picture. I don't know what to call this. Scrap yarn? Cord? My boyfriend seemed fascinated by it (me too) and said it was the perfect 90's headband! He immediately put it around his head. Unfortunately I missed that picture opportunity. ;D Whatever you want to call it, it's cool.

Last but not least, there was this cute little F flag. Too cute! A bunch of....stuff! I love the metal beads/danglies. (I don't know if I like the bird best or the nest). And then there was a little baggy of beads. Little buttons! Doll head beads! Big sparkly buttons! Variegated floss! The list goes on. Thank you SO much audio! I was lucky to get you for a swap partner two swaps in a row!

I just found this amazing gallery TODAY! I'm not sure why it took me so long. Sometimes I can be such a scatterbrain. :-[

Good lookn' gallery folks. As usual this gallery always has something fun and creative in it. I've just spent a good 1/2 hour marveling at the good stuff posted here. Like joyfulclover, I too am looking into the sharpie dyeing as well.

I rec'd from sharalee this weekend:
look at these awesome fabric flowers!

I need to know more about this technique sharalee...

not only a true statement but a really cute patch!

from my 'heart with wings' theme. LOVE this fabric.

my extras- which included a little sewing kit that I desperately need at work. So thoughtful.

So glad "curiousfae" you like the patches. The flowers on the flower patch are just a strip of long fabric twisted around & around & sewn together as you wrap. Yes I like those little sewing kits too, they really do come in handy!"  ;)

LBBABB, thanks so much for you kind comments. Maybe next time we'll get partnered or we can do a personal swap. That'd be fun!  ;D

I received an amazing package from Wulf! Then I was a bad person and neglected to post pictures. I hope he'll forgive me. I didn't mean to be an idiot, I just got a little distracted last week, between Makerfest and then getting GNR tickets and renovating my place and... well. It was an ADHD week, let's say that.

Without further ado, I present to you some of the coolest patches ever made!

And he put together a bunch of nifty extras too!

Wulf, did you make the patches in the last picture? I can't tell!

The Fix Shit Up patch is now in the prime real estate (centre back) of my battle jacket. My friend's band will have to go in a different place.. Thank you so much for everything!!

I love those badges and can see them on your fabulous jacket, RA!!

Here are my fabulous badges from jkaywiz!

I have been wanting to make a scrapbook of all of my fun notes and odd things about the Dr. Who series that I have been watching since I was a kid!  I can't believe it is still around...I have a small collection of TM patches on my Dr. Who theme, so I was delighted to receive two more!!!

Here is the famous Sonic screwdriver...with a perfect quote from one of my favorite episodes... ;D.

I am working on a Dr. Who quilt.  It is an embroidered quilt with free patterns from fandominstitches.com.  Jkaywiz found a perfect pattern to make me this Weeping Angel!  The stitches are perfect!

Finally, in my theme of black cats (because I have two bad ass black toms..)  My hubby wants this one, but he can't have it...

Thank you so much for these fabulous patches!

What a great Sonic Screwdriver!

And glad you liked the package, RovingAnarchist. No, I didn't make the two pieces in the last photo - the odd flower and the mushrooms. They came from a bundle of commercially-made sew-on decorations I got somewhere. Most of them are quite 3D, and some rather odd. The wrench patch came from Microcosm Publishing (http://microcosmpublishing.com), and the one with the bomb I think I got from some protesting punks at one of the Papal visits. :D

And, jkaywiz, such neat stitching on the Dr. Who patches! And, I love the black cat against the colorful background!

This gallery has been amazing so far! We have a few more sets of patches that need to reach their destinations, and then we'll have another successful swap in the books!

Glad you like your patches, jkaywiz!  I enjoyed making them.  I love Star Wars and am so glad you had that on your list of themes!

Here are the pics turned around.  And, I also included the vintage one.

Noodle-bug sent me a message to confirm she's received her package and asked me to post photos for her.

First I went with a Generic "Film strip" patch. I used a sizzix long die and cut it with felt.

For the second patch I cut a Totoro file I could find.

We also agreed to swap some small items for the Burrows swap. I made a small cauldron pin cushion

And I made her her own Ravenclaw reusable bag.

I love that people are using reuseable bags!

The Totoro patch is so cute!  What is it made of and how is it attached to the patch?

Great patches, Inselaeffchen! I like how you did the edges! And, that Totoro is fabulous! Did you cut it in the Silhouette? Iron on vinyl or fabric paint?

And, thanks for posting pics for your partner :)

this arrived from JKaywiz a couple days ago, i'm just having a long week, so I just got my pictures taken tonight, and off course they are all sideways...ugh try and fix that tomorrow.

love the patches, and linen extras..those feminine beads are just calling to be made into a new bracelet. thanks so much!

the first patch is nice and big. I love the way she stitched the veins on the felt leaves. I wish her careful work showed up better in the photo

the second one made me smile. we both had made snitch patches with a button. her's is more funky and playful that mine.

Lovely swap items!

The Totoro patch is so cute!  What is it made of and how is it attached to the patch?

AIMR - Totoro is made of fuzzy heat transfer vinyl. I've cut it using a file on my silhouette. Had to do the eyes for the middle one (think he's called Chu Totoro?) with a french knot as the fuzzy didn't peel off well from the sheet.

craftADDchick: I've not dared to try fabric paint with the silhouette ... any hints and tips for that one?

I would like to think that most of us have those Craftsters that we are fans of. You know. You ALWAYS look for their posts; and if they happen to be in a swap, you kind of stalk the gallery. Right? Because we really like what they do and are always looking forward to seeing what they come up with next. You hear me, right? And if you just so happen to be in a swap with them, you ALWAYS cross your fingers and your toes and maybe even send a tiny prayer upstairs...hoping that maybe, just MAYBE you'll get partnered with them. But it never EVER happens. Until now.

My last swap I got partnered with audio and roler...I am a HUGE fan. And then this swap I freakin' hit the [email protected] jackpot. Because I got partnered with audio AND Wulf. Whaaaaaat?!?!?!?!

This is why I swap folks. For those moments when the anticipation makes me breathless...because not only do I get something from THEM; but I get to make them something.

NOTE: The above was *slightly* exaggerated.

audio made me a couple of rad patches that I am still fondling on a regular basis. And yesterday I picked up a package from Wulf, tore it open, and my eyes just about bugged out of my head. Wulf never seems to disappoint.

Animal is just about my most favorite Muppet. Here his eyebrows are super fuzzy and the orange feathers make me want to twirl his "moustache."  ;D

I absolutely adore most anything Doctor related. I am uncertain if Wulf printed and the colored in the middle portion; or did you free hand it? The center "Doctor Who" is an applique. However done, I really really like it.

I loved the various fabrics that he sent along to make patches with. I can't decide if my favorite is the yellow one or the wolves.

I believe that to make cool stuff, a craftster must hoard bits and bobs. I truly don't have enough of them. These will help! And do you see the embroidery thread? The autumn looking one is pure silk and the colors are amazing. And I love the blue variegated embroidery thread. I have been meaning to experiment more to get not afraid of using materials I am not familiar with.

Thanks for an awesome swap Wulf! I really loved everything.

Glad you liked it all, Cherie! It's been long enough that I'd actually forgotten what I sent (poor short-term memory), so it was a nice surprise for me. I remembered Animal, but somehow I'd forgotten Dr. Who. I can't remember exactly what I did to produce that logo patch, but I know it was done by hand rather than printed. I think I traced the outline in something I hoped would act as a resist to separate the areas (it may have been actual gutta - know I tried it, but I can't remember if it was what worked best) and then flooded the spaces with Golden Liquid Acrylics. I was intending to use actual fabric paint, but of course when it came down to it I realized I had six shades of green and no blue. :D

I think those tiny stone beads are citrine. The pears are undoubtedly synthetic, though!

Wulf

Animal!!!!! I love that patch! And, it's a good thing you don't live nearby, because I would steal it! Seriously. The Dr. Who patch is also amazing- I never thought about using a gutta resist with fabric paint or acrylic paint. In my mind it was for silk dyes only, so thanks for the info, Wulf!

My partner received today, so I'm going to post pics for her :)

First is "Fall Tree," which took a long time to stitch! But, I think it was worth it :)

Next is "The Last Leaf," and I stitched the branch over a felt base (I don't know if it qualifies as stump work), and the leaf is free hanging.

And finally, a very simple (and possibly in need of additional embellishment) extra patch, "Fiesta Ware."

The last leaf is incredible!  You have such embroidery talent!

I love the fake fur use in the Animal!

Thanks! The leaf itself is cut from a piece of fabric and fused to a backing piece. I sort of cheated :)

Ok you guys this has been a great gallery but get ready to drooooool whwn you see what fatewineroses sent me.

They are the most absolutely perfect TM patches ever. She did the skeleton tree I'm so fond of and a thestral from Harry Potter,  my favorite magical creature!! The colors and purple leaves on the skeleton patch are perfect, exactly my style,  but I need to mention the fantastic stitching on the thestral,  not only is the thestral wonderfully stitched, so delicate but seriously this border around the thestral is a work of art in itself. I would have never though of doing stitching like this,  so creative and my favorite part.

And she sent me a whole bunch of extras in a kit.  Fabric,  whimsies and ribbons.

Thank you so much. I can't wait to get more!!!!

I was lucky enough to receive the skeleton tree hand stitches last year, (shout out, lindyv321!) but the Thestral is amazeballs! I have the perfect fabric to stitch up a hoop of my own.

Great job, fatewineroses!  And HOW PERFECT audio, to go with your skull series you just finished!

Wow. audio's patches got there super quick! I'm really glad that you like them. I kind of giggled when I saw your post with your collection of skull patches!  ;D The thestral just screamed for something extra. I liked the red I picked for the back; but it was too stark and needed to be broken up. I didn't want to add more color and I wanted something *more* than just the usual wrapped TM Patch. I really just started stitching and let it play out. Voila!

I've been waiting impatiently for an antipodean package in the Felt Badge Swap, and somehow had forgotten all about the TM Patch swap. :-[ So it made it an even greater pleasure to unpack this bulging envelope from fatewineroses this morning.

The two patches are brilliant. First, this portrait and quote of the late Harvey Milk. Cherie noticed him on one of my Pinterest boards and quite correctly decided I need to have him on a patch.

Then, from my list, "Cocktail Hour". I love both the title and the slogan lettering, and the mad, mad "smart people", with their jackets and ties and sleeveless cocktail gowns.

Just in case you weren't already awestruck by the embroidery here...

But then there were the extras and the "supplies kit". They almost upstage those wonderful patches:

First, some fabrics, ranging from plain broadcloth to a wonderful coffee-themed print.

Then a selection of ribbons and trims. Get a load of that embroidered ric-rac, and the kitchen-themed gros-grain!

But wait, there's more! Look at this collection of buttons and other stuff. Note the restroom token (How did you know I collect tokens?) and the laser-cut "lovely" lettering. In the middle are two round canvas tags, waiting to be decorated.

And finally, just to keep this from being just another boring swap package, she included two collector cards showing the work of fantasy artists! (Michael Whelan and Rowena Merrill, if you're wondering.)

This is an absolutely awesome package - one of those that I can scarcely believe is all mine. Thanks so much for this! :-*

The Cocktail Hour patch IS.SO.FREAKING.STELLAR. I have never seen one in this style! The colors are great and stitching is spot-on. The sweet, almost Betty Rubble type necklaces and the happy bubbly sparkle above the beverages are glllllorious! (insert sing-songy voice). One lady even has a perfect cocktail clutch.

I am completely jealous of you Wulf. Lucky, lucky, lucky.

I'm very happy you received and liked everything Wulf! When getting down to crafting for you I realized that I had all sorts of girly stuff; but not much masculine stuff. Unless you count the Star Wars and Firefly fabric! The Harvey Milk one got changed up (design, colors, etc) about a million times. I had just gotten that wonderful silk rainbow embroidery thread. It screamed, "Include me!" Who was I to deny it some glory?  ;D  The cocktail one was a mash up from a couple different clipart pieces I found. I liked the text on one; but didn't like the picture. The stitching was challenging! French knots are something I need to practice.

I had no idea that you collect tokens. My very first swap I participated in on Craftster was the Jar of Whimsies swap. We swapped a jar that included all sort of little doo dads. I have no idea what happened to that original jar; but I still have bits and bobs from the whimsies included. The token was one. My bf's youngest carries around a very tiny AT-AT that came in that jar as well. When I was going through my stuff to determine what to include, my fingers came upon that token...I looked at it and thought, "You know, I bet Wulf would think this is funny." Or roll your eyes at me. Either way...WIN!  ;D

alwaysinmyroom - You're gonna make me blush!

I am thinking of adding one particular color to my list...I love orange and think that patches made of orange would probably drive me to madness!  Love the monochromatic patch with the beads!!!

Also, the "X's" for the outside stitching are just another lovely way to do the borders...also seems to fit the sci-fi themed patches...

I rec'd from rovinganarchist!

First a beautiful heart with wings! Love the shape, the shimmery satin fabric and the swirls. LOVE!

Next, the Three of Cups. Three birds just chattering away. love the 'no' edges and the colors.

And some excellent assortment of fabrics, beads, thread and even some glitter glue! This is probably one of my favorite parts of this swap because you get things for your stash that you usually don't have. Would ya look at those monkeys! So stinkin cute.

Thanks so much Milo! These unique patches are really going to add some interest and diversity to my project (once I figure out what that is going to be exactly....).

Received a gorgeous package from curiousfae!

She did this amazing image of the Tower from the tarot..

A super cute version of the circle A:

Knitting love, because who doesn't need more knitting love in their life?

Plus a bunch of extra unfinished patches

Ribbons! I especially like the one with the pointing fingers on it, it reminds me of Monty Python for some reason.

And a giant lot of studs and pin badges:

Thank you so much for spoiling me rotten, curiousfae!

Seeing those Tarot patches makes me think I need to start a Tarot and a Loteria collection. They'd make great pieces to hang in my sister's tattoo studio!

I'd totally be down to organize that.

It might also be fun to do a long-form ATC version where we'd come out of it with a full Craftster tarot deck (or at least all the major arcana.) That one might be too much of a commitment for most folks though. (revision- did a quick search and found out that it's actually quite reasonable to get a custom deck of cards printed. Which is to say that we could each contribute a drawing or photograph of the cards we  created, and then have the whole thing printed professionally. Beats the heck out of having to redo the same project for several different partners! I started a thread for a tarot/divination/magic swap over on the New Themes board. We can talk more there. :))

That's a great image for the Three of Cups. And Tarot-themed patches is brilliant - I think I might have to steal idea for next round, or maybe just make some for myself.

Wulf

The Tarot one was super fun to make, and the one I rec'd from curiousfae was brilliant. Maybe we should put together a side project/spin-off of this swap with a Tarot theme...

Something to think about! Does someone want to organize it? I'd join :)

I'd totally be down to organize that.

It might also be fun to do a long-form ATC version where we'd come out of it with a full Craftster tarot deck (or at least all the major arcana.) That one might be too much of a commitment for most folks though.

It would be great if you could organize! But, I think you're right about the long term thing. My sister is doing an iATC one and it's very long term.

I did something on those lines a few years back, here at craftster  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=342882.0 (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=342882.0). We didn't make a whole deck but I don't think it would be that hard to accomplish, given some time. I'd be up for it! I will keep my eyes on the New Themes board.

Excellent additions to the gallery!  So many fun ways to embroider and embellish these!  I really like the knit one!

It's summertime here in the US, and the swap boards have been pretty quiet. So, we figured it was time for a quick round of the Yet Another TM Patch Swap! Patches are portable and great to take while you're traveling (even to the beach!

We're celebrating the 10th Round of the Yet Another TM Patch Swap, and there's an extra challenge for this round.

As a past swapper, we'd love to have you join in to make this the biggest round of the swap, "Yet!" Even if you only have time to make 1 patch, you can still have fun!

Check it out here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=455350.0
