Here is my amazing, AMAZING!!, pocket letter from curiousfae. Harry Potter!!

Note to all swappers - it is hard to take photos on your phone while ATCs are still in the plastic. I left my real camera at school! Arrgghh!

The cards show (from left to right):

First row: Always, my Hogwarts acceptance letter with supplies lists, the school crest
Second row: Monster book of Monsters, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Sirius Black's wanted poster
Third row: Marauders Map, train ticket, wand and spell

A mini felt Monster Book of Monsters! Adorable!

Another favorite!

The back is filled with all the goodies one needs to make more pocket letters! Die cuts, clips, wood tags, stickers, sticky notes, washi tape, paper tags and adhesive jewels. Plus a letter from the maker, curiousfae. I didn't open it until photos were taken but I will read tonight and answer when I complete your PL.

Thanks so much! The details are fantastic - the map opens and folds, my letter from Hogwarts - I just love miniature things so I love it all! Thanks so much, Kelli!

Wow! I'm kicking myself for not joining this one. The Harry Potter page looks wicked, I love all the little 3d elements like the beads and staples. I'll definitely be stalking the gallery as it fills up.

It's possible this could turn into a recurring swap  :)

Yes I would love to get some personal swaps going for this. I am intending on starting a binder to keep my pocket letters in. :) Now I just need some cute stuff to fill it.

Lovely start to the gallery! I just started putting the cards I made into one of these sheets this morning, and I said to myself, "this is going to be a cool thing to receive!". I can't wait to see what else people create!

I put all the extra pocket pages from the pack I purchased (alliteration is so much fun!) in a binder, so I'm ready to do some more swapping with friends both old and new.

Loved all the HP cards! I think Sirius Black's wanted poster is my favorite, but all of them are great!

I just worked on the last few ATCs I had to finish last night.  Now all I have to do is write the letters to each of my partners and mail the pocket letters out!

Title: Re: Pocket Letter Swap 1 Gallery
Post by: geekgirl1000100 on May 29, 2016 06:51:36 AM
I'll add that I would also do a personal swap for a pocket letter.
And if someone wants to do one without buying a whole package of 9 pocket pages, I would send you one first so you can try it out before jumping in and going crazy with supplies :)

ChameleonHound - I agree - very cool to receive.

Welcome back lylacfey - There are several of us definitely interested in this being a recurring swap.  I will probably post some questions soon and ask people for feedback on frequency, rules, etc.

I did not check mail yesterday and went to run errands this morning and checked it then.  And I'm glad I did.  I received my pocket letter from Edel.  I've been feeling under the weather and it was the perfect pick-me-up.  And while I was out and about I went ahead and picked up a 3-ring notebook to store it in.

Edel went with my cat theme.  I have been waffling on whether I like pocket letters better with just one theme or several themes and this may have put me over on the single theme pocket letter side.
It's fantastic!  I love it.

Oh and a word of caution to everyone: be careful opening these.  If you are sitting in your car and rip into it, things might go flying out  :o

The front, including glare.
I just love the little hand-drawn cats and those curly whiskers - so. cute.
And I love how the cats are standing on the washi tape surfaces.

Since there was glare (and I am not sure how to avoid that other than removing everything from the pockets) I took some close ups of sections:

And the back: the all matching backs looks so nice.  Mine definitely had more of a hodgepodge look on the backside :)

LOVE the kitchy kitties! Reminds me of my childhood and watching Bewitched. Are the backgrounds water-colored? They look really soft and dreamy. Great PL Edel!

thanks, they are watercolours on heavy watercolour paper. I really like the way they turn out, soft colours bleeding into one another, with some speckles of salt to pull up some colour. I glued some scrapbooking paper on the back to make it more uniform, as it was very messy looking. The 'bunting' is also watercolours on paper, cut into tiny triangles.

But I am amazed that that arrived so quickly!

Love the gallery.  Those cats are so 50's kitsch lovely!  That was super quick maybe when I get home tomorrow from my maiden camping trip on our new camper mine will be there!  FIngers crossed.  I did bring something to work on for my 2nd partners pocket page so when I get home hoping to have some time to craft.

I like how these are not as detailed as the regular ATC swap and stick to a theme...more personalized to the receiver it seems, as well...

Love the HP theme and those clever whimsical cats!

I am still learning about the pocket letters...seems like a fun way to become sort of pen pals with people.

I had an inspiring moment just now on how I can decorate a 3 ring binder for my pocket letters.  It involves adhering canvas to the plastic covers of the binder.

Does anyone know the best way to do that? I've tried it with fabric and hot glue before and it didn't work at all.

I am not sure.  Possibly E6000 glue?  It's my go-to glue for everything.  Just not sure if it would soak through the canvas and look bad.

You might cover a plastic 3-ring binder with cardboard first, so you can use your heavy duty glue for the plastic and then something simpler for the fabric.

Alternately, maybe spray on adhesive would be sticky enough for the outside, and then some heavy duty glue for where the fabric is folded to the inside, and then cover those folds with cardstock like in a book?

Just ideas.

I am so ashamed as life has been a little wild here.   I did get my pocket letter from Edel when I arrived back Monday but chose not to open it until I had hers in the mail.   Well I am still toting hers around in my purse.........  The weather has been awful flooding all around and rain rain rain.  The end of our school year was today so my days have been 14 hours long at work and not even a moment to leave to head to the post office.  Tomorrow is another full work day as we have to bus all 3 high schools into Houston for graduation on Saturday. If they do not cancel and move it to our college here in town  3 separate  bus trips so Saturday is gonna be a long 16 hours.  Anyway I gave up as I did not want to open my pocket letter from her until the one I made for her was sent but after today I caved.  Hers will go in the mail tomorrow if I have to sneak away.  A little behind on my other partners, but Monday in the mail for hers, since I still have a little to do on Sunday.

Anyway I so needed this!   Here is my pocket letter from Edel......she went with my dragonfly theme and I can only hope the shimmer of these little beauties shows up.   All hand made!

Edel decorated the back with a cute paper.....some of the stuffers came out of their pockets so I just kinda added them back in random places.

Thank you so much Edel...yours will hit the mail tomorrow and I will pm when it goes out!!!!!

I love my pocket letter and now need to find time to go get a binder................

DH was home from work for a minute when I happened to receive my pocket letter from Dearbluebird.  It was so amazing that both DH and I had our breath taken away when I opened up the envelope!  (Speaking of, I took a photo of the envelope but when I uploaded it to picasa, it some how disappeared.  :'( >:( ) Suffice it to say, the envelope was very decorated and I saved it to use with my future ATCs!  :))

Here is what the pocket letter was wrapped in:

(BTW...how did you make the yellow part?  I like how it came out!)
Here is the front of the pocket letter:

And the back:

As you can see, SIMPLY AMAZING!  THANK YOU DEARBLUEBIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I am seeing correctly, you took a big coloring page and cut it into nine ATCs, am I correct?  I LOVE that idea!  It's so different!

I'm wondering if either of my partners have received their pocket letters yet (Dearbluebird and Chameleonhound).  I sent them in padded envelopes.  The guy at the PO seemed kinda dumb, so I hope that they actually made it into the mail system.  :P

Oh, I wanted to say, I went and treated myself to a set of 100 gel pens from Michaels last night!  I love gel pens and have been eyeing this set for awhile!   ;D  And as soon as I get more funds (the gel pens were not cheap  :P) I'm going to buy that spray E-6000 that someone suggested in this thread and see if it works for my making a binder.

One more thing...I am figuring that everyone is keeping the ATC part of the pages in a binder, or at least in the page itself.  Is anyone taking out the "goodies" that were sent with them, or do you leave them in there and just take them out as needed?

Title: Re: Pocket Letter Swap 1 Gallery

I checked your DCs and they both say delivered!  I'm sure Dearbluebird and Chameleonhound will be along shortly to post pics :)

I may have to get the 100 count gel pen set too.  I've colored so much my gel pens have started running out of ink!

I have not decided yet whether to empty out the goodies or not.  For now I am leaving them there and will probably scavenge them over time to use in other projects.  That's what they are for after all, but right now I just like looking at them :)

Finally back on here to post pictures, it has been a very busy weekend, it was a public holiday weekend here in ireland and we have been having sunshine!! days and days of sunshine, plus some old friends from Australia visited...it was a blast...which means I didn't get to post this amazing pocket letter that I got from our wonderful organiser. I LOVE IT!!

FLAMINGOS!...I looooove flamingos..check this out. I took everything out of the pockets as the flash was affecting the pix .

I love the mix of seaside and and flamingos, And I really love the themes. The pointillism flamingo, my favourites are the quilled one and the tangrams one. And she was sooo generous with extras, there were some really cool bits of paper ephemera in this. And if that all weren't enough, she sent me some of her brilliant colouring pages cards. Such a clever idea

this has been a brilliant gallery!! and a great organiser.

I really love the technique of using a whole page for the whole pocket letter. I could see using an image from the adult coloring books that are all the rage. Definitely something I am going to try. Great work DearBluebird.

All the different flamingos are stellar! I agree the quill one really stands out as well as the paper pieced one. Nice PL!

As far as goodies go, I definitely take them out and use them. It is so fun to have some new additions to my stash. So keep yours eyes open, you may see something you've sent to me on another page in a swap!

I got my lovely pocket letter from LadybugsAndBumblebees! Look at all of this colorful goodness!

And the backs and goodies:

I love these! There's just so much color, which really brightened up my weekend (and I needed it). I think the 3 in the middle row are my favorites, but the carrot's-eye-view is really cute too! And that fantastic leaf is now adorning my bulletin board, I added all of my crafty goodies right into my *newly organized* crafting box, and the blues brothers button went on my button-covered messenger bag. Thank you for everything LadybugsAndBumblebees!

I'm so glad you like it, ChameleonHound! I was inspired by the children's book:  'The Carrot Seed' for the carrot ATC.  It made me giggle.  :D

The leaf cutout was made by my younger DD.  She had printed it on white construction paper with ink in her art class at school.  She gave me the picture she made with different leaf prints, and I really liked the one I sent you.  When I went to paint it, the ink started to run as well, but I kind of liked the look.  Glad you like it too!

the front

the back

the cards out of their pockets to avoid glare

look at the little kitty face peeking out!

I love this

this is really cool - is it acrylic paint over crayon and scratched off?

adorable

all the goodies

thanks so much!  I love all the different techniques you used.

Recd from quaggy! As you can see she went with a sewing theme, a favorite craft of hers. I love how each pocket is so different but all follow the theme.

I love the zipper and the flower.

This is the back with all the goodies. I love the quilted paper.

These are just a couple of my favorite goodies she added. Did you make the little flower? I would love to know how you made these. So cute! I'm in the TM patch swap again right now and these little extras she added will make some cool embellishments on them.
Thanks again Quaggy!

no I did not make the paper flower....you could by using 2 different size punches...poke a hole in the larger one and wind floss around it.  add the smaller one on top and cover the hole with a brad.  You could use those in the bottom left pocket on the back.

Nice PL quaggy!

GeekGirl, to answer your question the tardis card is actually made with a magazine page. I used to get some magazine with a watch ad on the inside of the cover, and I figured out that I could scratch the black off and then color in with markers!

I received from kbrison! She used a variety of my themes and interests across the entire pocket letter.

She came up with so many unique and interesting items for the pockets! Including cards, stickers, an owl patch, die cuts, tags, etc. They all matched the theme of the card!

Details:

The Mickey uses a washi tape roll (which she included loose since it wouldn't fit in a pocket)

I love the quilled daffodils!

I also love the flames on the phoenix:

Thank you so much, kbrison! I love the range of techniques as well as all the awesome goodies. ;D

I rec'd from smmarrt today! she chose the 'your favorite crafts' theme. This is one of my favorite themes because my swap partner gets to tell/show me something they love to make.

I think a PL is a great platform to showcase little bits of artistic techniques and I think since smmarrt is a master at ATC's this PL turned out fab.

a few close-ups some goodies....love those little doll page flags, the mason jar die-cuts, and the striped paper under the rounds stickers is a mini book with blank pages- a tiny journal. And I guarantee you will see those stamped-word slips in my artwork in the future. So useful and cool.

thanks so much smmarrt! really great pl and fun swap.

Here is my pocket letter from Smmarrt  She chose to go with my sewing theme and love of vintage!  She used vintage patterns and the tissue cutting pattern is the base.  I love the overlay of the cutouts from the pattern front.

I love how the dart, dress back, simplicity, buttonhole center pieces of pattern were used.  This was so well thought out!

Here are my goodies that came stashed in the pockets!

Paintchips with heart and bird clips, mason jar tags, dot stickers, and  hearts card with wasabi tape, 2 wooden letters, and a small journal.

Here are my favorites!

Thank you so much Smmarrt I love my pocket letter!

Thank you

Love the sewing PL from quaggy.  that scissor charm is awesome.

That phoenix card is great. and those quilled daffodils are so cute.

I love all the techniques showcased in Smmart's PL.  And I did not know until recently when I started seeing them in crafts on craftster that I really like vintage pattern pics used in crafting!  So cool.

The sewing ones really appeal to me...I wonder why? ;D

Great job, everyone...these are so creative and personalized!

Finally I get to post this, I had internet outage and finally this morning no electricity! Too much rain in Ireland, wouldn't you think that we would have learned to cope with it by now.

Anyway I am now on  fast internet...yay so i can share you the wonderful PL from quaggy. She went with my theme of flamingos. And I love this, it is so cheery in all the rain

The whole thing out of the covers.

The back with the really cool stuff, including this brilliant pendant!! I love this.

gratiutous close up cleavage shot

some of the individual ones. I love this quote

The watercolour (?) is brilliant

this is my favourite. Although it is really hard to choose a favourite

and these are my two PL together, look how brilliantly they go together, I am considering taking them out of the pockets and putting them into a frame for a big picture, what do you think?

this was a brilliant swap, thanks for organising geekgirl

I received from Ladybugsandbumblebees. She chose my geometric design theme. I LOVE geometric designs and patterns and she sent me a great p.l.

she filled the back with things I love and lots of useful little things:

Thank you so much for your wonderful p.l., Ladybugsandbumblebees. I am sorry it took me so long to post photos. I appreciate your patience!!!!

I received my p.l. from Grufflepuff. She chose my Zombies theme and came up with this great p.l. based on Zombieland (a personal favorite).

She decorated the outside with a great retro look and used items that I can reuse.

Here is the front of the p.l. If you aren't familiar with the film, the narrator talks to the viewer throughout the film about the important "rules" to survive the zombie apocalypse. Some of those are listed here in the p.l. :)

Love the flamingos (especially the one with the tiny charm) and the 'action' shot of edelc.  ;)

Great geometric designs LbaBb. By the way, I folded my letter the same way!  ;D  And are those Garbage Pail kids stickers??! So funny!

And that zombie PL is great! The 'rules' of the movie were the perfect material for the pl pockets. Fantastic extras too. Gotta love those old photos.

I received a fantastic Craftster-themed pocket letter from Treemoon. Look at this:

Here are the rows - love that she used screen shots for the backgrounds:

The goodies in the back were great also - charms, brads and mini metal tags, beads and homemade rolled magazine beads, 2 pairs of earrings (love the HP ones!), a choker and some punch-outs.

Thanks so much - I often include Craftster as a theme but no one really ever likes that idea. I do and I think this pocket letter is fantastic - thank you!!

I am glad you like it. I had fun trying to recreate some of the top left rotating quotes from Craftster. I also love that you noticed the backgrounds  ;D

Here is the fun pocket lecturer I received from grufflepuff. I love the top left butterfly cocoon (I can't spell the real word) love the quote around it. and check out the large 4 section butterfly so pretty!

Check out those fun goodies I love how they are vintage feel and transparent. Now where to use them......

Thank you grufflepuff!

And a Craftster theme!!!???  What a great idea, and I love that PL!

curiousfae, those are indeed Garbage Pail stickers!  My partner said she liked 1980's themed stuff, so DH gave me a Blockbuster Video card, and he shared about 10 of the Garbage Pail stickers from his own collection.  ::) :D

Oh, and the letter fold, shhhh....it's supposed to be a secret way to give letters to your friends....don't you remember high school?  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I love the Craftster themed ATCs! I'll have to remember to add that to my list next time. I especially liked the "Save everything" slogan. That's so-o-o me!

The butterfly cards are quite cute. Adding the quotes is a nice touch.

Wow! the gallery exploded.  I had a lot of catching up to do.

LadybugsAndBumblebees - we are on the same page again.  I just did that.
I am thinking that I'm going to put all the little goodies from the PL into a big ziplock bag so I can see what I have and readily use the items when I want to.
I can't wait to see more PLs!

Awesome flamingo PL from quaggy - that cross stitch one is fab. Love the pendant (great action shot!)  And I think my favorite is the painted one of the flamingo in the water.

Really nice geometric PL by LadybugsAndBumblebees.  I love all the colors and different shapes. The blockbuster card made me laugh.  What will you do with it DearBluebird?  I use old store cards like that to do the paint scraping technique.

The zombie PL is cool.  I like the quotes idea.

I love that craftster-themed PL by Treemon.  That theme (specifically craftster and not crafting) would not have occured to me.  I like the screenshots as backgrounds.  What a clever way to showcase our craftster obsession :)

pretty pocket letter from grufflepuff.  Hope you don't mind - I rotated it.  I really like the one big image cut into smaller pieces for the individual pockets. and love the vintage goodies.

I hope to post round 2 in a few days!

I'm loving all the pocket letters that have been posted the past week!

Check out this really cool PL I got from bec99, and sorry it took me so long to post pics:

She chose the Quotes from My Pinterest theme, with some other themes like birds and spring mixed in there too. And everything was fantastically colorful, including the paper it was wrapped in! Lots of goodies too.

Here are some of my faves close up. The one with the red background says "May my heart be kind, my mind fierce and my spirit brave" - Kate Forsyth.

Thanks Bec!

Wonderful cards, bec! I especially am drawn to the quote about travelers since DH and I head to the Canada Meet Up on Tuesday. No set plans for the return home except to arrive in our driveway by July 2 . . . just meander and look at anything that catches our interest. I may have to co-op that quote for my trip scrapbook.

When I received my partner's questionnaire, I was so glad that I had asked for ATCs that told me more about her and/or her location. I've admired phoenixfiredesign's art for several years, so it's wonderful to see some of the things that inspire her. These ATCs show her love of Disney, HP, owls, steampunk, and "Back to the Future".

Back view showing the goodies and the notes on the ATCs.

Close up of the ribbon flowers, sticky tabs and notes, steampunk paper clips, beads, stamps, and brads and eyelets. I already have plans for the flowers. The stamps and brads are likely to be showcased on the next cards I make. That's going to be so much fun!

Phoenixfire not only sent the pocket letter but she also used the ATC backs to tell me more about herself and why certain images were reflective of her life and activities.

These were my favorites. What's not to love about anything Hogwarts? The bat on the Haunted Mansion is a resin piece that phoenixfiredesigns molded and painted herself. She's so talented!

My pocket letter may have had to make two trips to finally reach me, but it was well worth the wait. Thanks so much for having been my partner, phoenixfiredesigns!

Yay!! So happy you like it curiousfae. The girls are native maori to New Zealand. That is their dance outfits I believe.

Traditionally, Māori made their clothes and adornments from native plants, and bird and animal skins. There was a great variety of garments, including many kinds of cloaks. Clothing, adornments and even hairstyles showed a lot about a personís status, and fine clothes could enhance mana.
