I'm so excited for this swap, and filling out the questionnaire made me realize there are quite a few movies I haven't seen him in! I need to get on that.

So happy you're planning on joining us, Monkey_Girl!

There are a number of Bowie films that I haven't seen either, Acadian Driftwood.  I'm actually watching 'Just a Gigolo' right now.  David is soooo young!!

And because I just feel like it, here's a Bowie video.

I'll send my deets in when I get home this evening (or early tomorrow). I'm totally in, as long as no one minds shipping to Australia!

So glad this is a thing even if I will very probably cry while crafting. I still signed up first thing this morning.

As an FYI, I am getting married just under a week after the sending deadline, and while I *will* make good on my word and am very Type A about making/getting gifts for people which carries over into swaps/Secret Santas and things, I just want to give a heads' up that I have a kind of enormous commitment a few days after. (Well, just my wedding, no biggie - except that weddings are ridiculously huge in my community.) But believe me, I'd rather be crafting to honour David Bowie than like 99% of wedding planning stuff that I have left, so it shouldn't cause any problems. (Mods, should I remind you of that in a PM?)

Congratulations, thegirlwiththemouseyhair, on your upcoming nuptials!!!  That's so exciting!
I think we can give you a pass if we don't hear from you quite as often.  Just be sure to let your partner know what's up (when you get a partner, of course)!

- and I totally get you about the likelihood of tears while crafting!  Although I have promised myself that I will also be doing a good deal of dancing about the house to his music!

So glad to have you with us, monkey_girl!!

SilverMoon, looking forward to having you join us too!  I can't speak for everyone but I for one am willing to send Bowie love anywhere in the world!

I am deliberating over my questionnaire and re-exploring my David Bowie music. Golden years and Under pressure are my absolute favorites but I know I'm missing some :D

Introduced my my almost three year old to Bowie's music, a "dance party" around the house was definitely involved. Now she sees his picture and yells "BOWIE!" My dad showed me Bowie back in the day so its fitting.
Now I'm extremely excited for this swap :D can't wait for partners

Wow, PromisedHeartbrk, that sounds like both parenting and Bowie fandom done right - it's so important to keep great music and art alive for the next generation. I may need pointers from you when *I* will have a next generation to teach.  ;)

I can't wait for partners, either. I have so many ideas for this swap and just hope there's someone to pair me with who's relatively close geographically.

Welcome, IsikkahJai!

I got to see Bowie live during his Reality tour in 2004.  He played 'Under Pressure' to a hugely enthusiastic response.  Afterwards he raised his eyes upwards and said "See, Freddie, I told you they'd love it."  Lovely moment.

I really wanted to go to that concert when he toured in Australia. But I was not quite 34 weeks pregnant with my first child and my other half and my best friend wouldn't let me go. Would have been a cool thing to tell my boy that his "first concert" was Bowie before he was born, which didn't happen for another 8 weeks. Turned out to be his very last tour too.

Yes, I'm still bitter. No, I didn't really have the money, but damn it, it was Bowie and I'd have made it work.

I did see him when he played in Montreal on his Reality tour, although my mother was adamantly opposed (I guess on the principle of opposing positive experiences and enjoyment of life) and I very nearly wasn't allowed to go because of my age and having an exam a couple days after. Then he had flu and had to cancel his Toronto show which was supposed to be the night before mine, and I always used to joke that thank goodness Toronto got screwed, not Montreal/me, but now I just feel so badly for people who never got to see him in concert at all. I'd have done almost anything to see him again which really hurts, but I really, really sympathize with other fans who missed out or discovered him/will discover him after.

At some point when my heart can take it I'm going to buy the Reality Tour DVD and reminisce, but it's still really tough.

I'll be keeping the swap open for another day (in case there are any lurkers out there!   ;)).  Then I'll work on partnering on Sunday.

I told you I'd get there eventually! :) *wipes sawdust off keyboard* The renos are done... for now at least.

Now I'm having fun setting up my swap board for this swap on Pinterest. While my partner is of course, welcome to comb through my 75 other boards, and close to 10,000 pins, I like to dedicate a temporary board for each swap I'm in, to save people getting inundated with choices. (And sidetracked by pretties)

My favorite thing about Bowie was his role as Goblin King so all my Bowie is stuff in the the "Labyrinth" board  ::)

My partner has a beautiful name! <3 I remember swapping with her before and receiving awesome stuff so I'm excited that we get to swap again. I have too many ideas for her. We're so much alike in what we love about David Bowie that I kinda want to vomit all my Bowie craft ideas on her just to say I've made them  ;D Then we'd both be (hopefully) satisfied.

I've been on this swap like white on rice and started crafting tonight. I watched Velvet Goldmine while doing so and cried a bit, but survived.

I was also reminded why hand sanitizer is such an important cleaning first aid when you have a superglue disaster on your hands (literally)...

I have far too many ideas and my partner isn't helping me narrow them down enough!  Although she is making me laugh!

I'm glad you survived your superglue disaster, thegirlwiththemouseyhair!  It could have been hard for your groom to put that ring on your finger if they were stuck together!    ;)

I've gathered most of my supplies for my first item, and have it all laid out (which is how I know I don't have *all* the supplies for it) ready for crafting.

I have ideas for my second item, but having trouble narrowing it down to just one.

I have a small done. Dunno how comfortable they are  ::) I rarely wear stuff like this so I'm a bad judge. And they're more Labyrinth inspired than "Bowie" but I know Kyerinn is a huge Labyrinth fan so they'll be appreciated either way  :D They were fun to make too. Now to narrow down my "medium"...

Judging by Pinterest, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say all of us are? And as much as I enjoyed the Labyrinth Swap, I'm enjoying getting to work with other facets of Bowie. Which is not to say I may or may not do Labyrinth theme for my next item. Or maybe I have already, and I'm just messing with you, hahaha!

@Acadian Driftwood - So sorry to hear about the computer issues! I hope you get that settled soon; I know being without a computer is terrifying for me. Also, I'm relieved my overwhelming list of Bowie favourites is exciting and not just ridiculously unhelpful.

@PromisedHeartbrk - The phrase 'Starman and Reed' makes my heart hurt :/ Though it also sounds like they were the partners in a sort of fantasy/sci fi/urban fantasy law firm...

Also, I am just following everyone involved in this swap on Pinterest and stealing pins from all of you. Hope you don't mind.

I'm glad my weird comment inspired a shirt and would love to see it, PromisedHeartbrk.

Also, I was crafting before heading to my in laws' for dinner, and I was inhaling so much Sharpie that I was worried about getting loopy from it. I kept thinking, "It's not the side effects of the sharpie/I'm thinking that it must be love" and now I have that song in my head - not that that's a problem.

That's a great shirt, SilverMoon - he really was the closest a real person could be to the Doctor, I think, which is why his death seems like such a terrible loss for the whole world (and maybe all of time and space).

And I'm also having trouble confining myself to just two items. I'm so glad my partner and I are doing extras! Now I'm just waiting for some supplies to arrive in the mail - Canada Post needs to hurry it up so I can finish my stuff.

My "medium" is running away with me. I don't mind the extra effort though, despite the long hours, it'll be worth it. I try not to measure my craft in time anyway, because I'm a slow crafter. All the extra time so far has been in prep work so I could still technically be good lol.

Aww, IsikkahJai you are too sweet!!  ;D I'm glad that you're having fun with the crafting! My ideas are brewing, crafting will occur this weekend. I'm on target and excited to be craft swapping again!

Also - that Bowie t-shirt is gorgeous!  :)

It's been a while since I've participated on Craftster - it looks like wists is no longer a website?  ???  I'm so disappointed! I had some fantastic stuff on there.

I'm contemplating another swap, but they require a Pinterest page and while I have one, I don't use it much. It's been hacked before and the other day, a cowoker almost caught a virus from Pinterest... I'm nervous.

I know I shouldn't be bragging, but I am so close to done everything for this swap. I think I just have to launder one of my items and then mail them off. I did start buying supplies and crafting really, really early so I could send out 1) well before the wedding (although I'm checking out of so much wedding planning stuff - am getting questions from people now and answering them like "I dunno, I'm not everyone's wedding day keeper..."), and 2) in time for Canada Post to hopefully get things to my partner around the same time everyone else in the swap gets their stuff. My confidence in Canada Post and Canada Customs is not booming right now, but here's hoping.

I (started and) finished my small yesterday. Still need to test it, and possibly clean up some problems, but I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Good to hear that so many of you are making great progress.  I had a fail which led to a do-over but I'm getting there!  I'm off tomorrow and intend to craft my little heart out!

I had to force myself to listen to something other than Bowie the other day just so I could be in the right frame of mind for a musical book reading.  (A friend of mine recently published a book about 'the best pop band you've never heard of'.  He was right.  I'd never heard of them.)

Hello all! Just checking in - I'm SUPER CLOSE  to finishing my small! My medium isn't too far away - although it's being a bit of a headache - It will be worth it though!

I like how my medium item turned out.  I hope my partner does too!

I watched the Bowie documentary 'Five Years' this weekend.  It was really good.  It focuses on five important years in Bowie's career and features a lot of rare footage and interviews with different people who worked with him.  Recommended viewing!

@Calixita - Thanks for the heads up about the Five Years documentary! I will definitely try to check that out when I feel I can get through it without crying.

And more bragging: I finished my stuff on the weekend and sent my parcel out yesterday on my lunch break. I just hope it gets there in a reasonable time, because Canada Post is awfully slow and the USPS doesn't seem too great from what I've seen, either, and I'm now relying on a combination of the two of them...

Since we have a sender, I've created a gallery.  I know the mail may take a while but I figured I'd create good vibes by putting up the gallery early.   ;D  Anything to please the Postal Gods!

Reminder to all that the send-out date is next Monday (March 21st).  Hopefully everyone is on track.  I am although there is still something else I really want to do if I can just find the right ingredient.  I'm going out searching again tomorrow.

I've had Bowie on the brain so much these days that he popped up in a dream the other night.  It was late 90's era David and he was admiring a bracelet I had made.  I offered to make one for his wife Iman and he held my hand while comparing our wrist sizes.  It was one of the most erotic dreams I've had in a while!    ;)

I've dreamed about Bowie a lot over the last couple months. His death has just been so hard on me, as I feel like I really lost someone close or at least extremely important to me - I credit him with saving my life from a really repressive and unhappy family environment which could have turned out a very miserable and closed-minded version of me; the person I am today would not be here if not for David Bowie. So I've had a lot of dreams about him still being alive and have tended to wake up from them really sad.

I did have one dream about David Bowie crusading around investigating/fighting supernatural beings. There was a reference to him in this podcast about urban legends that I was listening to, and I think it just spiraled from there. I totally wanted to write that story someday after a respectful time.

How wonderful that Bowie had such an influence on your life, thegirlwiththemouseyhair!  I can't credit him with saving my life but he certainly opened my mind to creativity, beauty, far less restrictive gender models than society would like to force all of us into (especially back when I was coming of age!), the inspiration to keep growing and the freedom to be "weird".  As someone has said "If you're sad today, just remember that the world is over 4 billion years old and we managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie.".  That's truly something to be grateful for!

I don't tend to remember my dreams much.  I'm such a horrible morning person that I usually fight waking up.  But the vivid ones sometimes stick with me and the one in which David Bowie caressed my hand really stuck out!   :D

David Bowie checking out supernatural creatures is something I'd enjoy reading about!

What an incredible episode of Supernatural that would have made!
I'm awfully sad we never got to see him guest star on Doctor Who, as well. Both Moffat and Capaldi had both mentioned they'd like to have him on.

Yeah, he did all that and more for me, and given my background, that was a huge, huge deal that meant the world for me. I think I'm only fully realizing it now.

And, yes, the Doctor Who thing makes me sad too because now we'll definitely never get to see that. (Unless the show is running/revived years from now when it would be respectful and OK to use Bowie as, like, a historical figure). I think Bowie already was the closest any real person could be to being like the Doctor or a Time Lord. Did you know that there was one incident in the early 70s when he was supposed to perform as Ziggy at the BBC for one of the first times, and the studio had Doctor Who filming there or nearby, and people who didn't know who Bowie and the Spiders were yet thought they were just extras playing aliens on the show?

Well Wednesday didn't happen  :D I realized quickly that the project I had in mind was far too involved to make it before Send Outs so I'm gonna tweak it a bit and make it encompass even MORE of my partner's likes, I hope.

Hope y'all are having good luck with your crafting!

I found the key ingredient for the last item I wanted to make!  Just hoping it all turns out as pictured in my head, of course.  I should be able to finish tomorrow and send out on Monday!  Right at the deadline!

Since it's already Monday here, do I need to send today or can I wait till tomorrow? I'm ready to send, but I'd be happier with an extra 24 hours curing time to make sure things survive the post better.

I think it's fine to go by the organizer's standard time (which is EST).  Better safe than sorry, I say!

Think I may have an 11th hour switcharoo. I realize I was going full on Labyrinth and not enough Goblin KING per se, which defeats the purpose of this swap  ::) So some quick molding and some baking and some permanent marker and I'll be happy. THEN I can send with a clear conscience.

Shh! I meant my crafty Facebook page, not my personal, show-all-my-friends FB page. But yeah, it was hard to part with. I'm glad it wasn't travelling all the way to America though. Would have cost over $50 in postage, and I'm not sure it would have made it!
