First link as organizer, carolmb posted the whole group.

Second time in her gallery post , as patricipant, she removed her own name since she doesnt have to post blocks for herself.
Clear as muck? ;)

Homerof2: sloth is correct

The first post with the listing was to show who was in what group

the second time the list is up is for my gallery post so I can keep track when I upload pictures

hope that clears it up  :o

Holy cow!  You guys are on this!  Thanks for clearing up the "muck", sloth!  I have yet to read all of the 19 PM's in my box...wow...love those blocks, sloth!  I am so glad to be able to use so many of the fabrics I have to give a scrappy look but the lime ties it all together!

carolmb--those house blocks are inspiring!!!  I can't wait to try that technique!

Uff, I'm afraid I haven't started yet, other than getting some bondaweb for quaggy's houses today in town.  Just need to clear a bit of work off my plate today, then I can get down to some sewing!  :)  Tomorrow's looking a good day for it - I'll have the house to myself, it'll be wonderful!

Added carol's blocks and two of AIMR's blocks (the third will be a star).  quaggy's blocks are well underway - the houses just need roofs and some decorating.  Gonna sit with some graph paper to plan out one of sloth's blocks - the other two will be applique and paper pieced (I hope!).  :)

...and today's "Well, duh!" moment brought to you by the discovery that Scrappy Trip blocks are much nicer to assemble when using strips I've cut rather than cheap'n'cheerful but quite inaccurate pre-cut strips.  Who knew?!

Thank you!  :)  What I was thinking of doing was a sort of pixelly version, using that postage stamp tutorial on Oh Fransson (I already have a template drawn up for squares finishing @ 1", from when I made the mini quilt that's my avvie.)

That sounds cool too. I'm intrigued to see final
result.

This chart I used for piecing words. Simple square an half square triangles.

I'm really glad you like them, Carol!  The shark and unicorn prints were random encounter buys from the fabric shop in town; they were just too cool to not come home with me, and I was really glad to have a chance to play with them so soon (and pleased that I had fabric in my stash that went with them).  :)

I love those blocks, Amazon_Warrior!  They will go nicely with the ones I already have!

Those center blocks are so cute!  I don't have a lot of novelty prints anymore...I used to buy a lot more when I had kids to sew for...

Sloth--thanks so much for your drawing!  I was trying to figure out how I could do your words...now I have a clue! ;D

I'm glad you like them!  I had a bit of luck with the blue one - I found 5 2.5" strips already pieced in my stash, left over from another quilt - all I had to do was cut a bit to size and add a 6th strip.  :)

Yay! They look perfect Carol :)

I cut out half the strips for aimr yesterday, then I went to sleep. -.- Have had so many long days, it's lucky I'm only in one group this round :D
I'm not completely convinced about two of my fabric choices, but I think it'll turn out fun. They're easy blocks, so just tell me if I got it wrong when I show 'em, and I'll redo it :)

The Ohio star looks fabulous!  This is one of the favorites among the firemen and their spouses...I guess because we live in Amish country and it is familiar to many of them...stars in general are a hit for the Wounded Warrior quilts, so thanks!!!

Eeeeee!  :D  Thank you Carol, they look amazing!  :D

Edit:  I have been wondering about sending out.  For the sake of simplicity, I was considering waiting until I'd finished everyone's blocks before sending, but if the blocks I've posted so far for yourself and AIMR are ok, then I could send them out now (well, tomorrow, probably!) and the others can follow in due course.

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: carolmb on February 23, 2016 03:28:45 PM
on send outs everyone does it differently. Whatever works best for you Amazon_warrior

I just normally sent out in batches because its easier for me and clears up my crafting table space LOL

Sometimes I sent all internationals first. Others I sent out by groups. This time It just happened I had lots of the same people in different groups. So figures I would get all my single group partners done. I started with the qauggys because applique takes me the longest to finish LOL

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: Melladh on February 24, 2016 05:26:22 AM
For the sake of my own organization, I like to finish everything first, and then send to everyone at once. Then I can count the packages thrice and have them add up to the total number of sendouts expected, hopefully every time... :D

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery

I thought that was one of the rules we agreed upon--all blocks had to be sent out at the same time for the organizer's sanity!

carol--those origami cranes turned out beautifully!  I can't wait to try them!

This was from our discussion with donniegirl: lol of course, we have already broken two of them! lol

So these are the proposed changes I'm hearing:
~When you send, you have to send everyone at once.  This is to keep the organizer sane.   Wink
~No paper pieced blocks (unless agreed upon)
~No applique (we don't get many of these anyway)
~Sounds like we keep things as they are on color schemes

Alwaysinmyroom: I personal feel it is up to the person doing the blocks. For me it is easier to send in batches for others it might be all at once. I leave it up to the crafters LOL

I like to send them as I do them as well so they don't get lost in the mess that is my craft room! ;D

I'm fascinated by that buzzsaw, I've never seen them done that way! I want some o_O I tried googling it to see it tiled, but I'm only getting the regular, graded ones.

Wheee, love the cranes, sloth - thank you!  :D  If I get a chance today, my plan is to finish houses (I had to go and buy black thread - wut?  But last night I sewed around the already-appliqued bits) and do some words.  :)

Spent the day at Quilt Club, making paper-pieced letters for one of sloth's blocks.  And making a fair attempt to cut my finger off!  Luckily, no blood managed to get on the block.  :p  Two more letters to do, then I can bob 'em together and post a piccie.  :)

I also started prioritizing the quilts that I want to get done from previous rounds...I believe I have eight to finish! ;D

sloth--those filler squares are going to do the trick!!  I loved your scrappy trip around the world last round, so the new ones will fit in perfectly!

quaggy--you have really made this swap super fun with your chickens and houses!!!

Carolmb--the blocks you picked really are diverse...I am going to start cutting now!

Loving all the blocks! The cranes are gorgeous, and the upside down wonky house pictures are cracking me up... Lol I'm so tired -.- Out too late last night.

Oh, and stars for me from sloth! I missed those. See, it's good that I'm only in one group this round. >_>

I still haven't made aimrs blocks, all the strips are cut and pinned one-to-one. I even cut an extra strip for some reason? Which is now in my scrap bin... I just haven't been home more than for sleep and an hour or so to eat. (cats are not amused having to settle for only my boyfriend) Sunday I expect to be home, and if I'm still alive I'll get them done. EVERYONE is down with the flu, it's amazing that I'm still not coming down with it lol.

Those card tricks are challenging for me as well...if I remember correctly, my blocks were a bit too small, so I need to be extra careful!

quaggy--don't worry about my stars not being red, white and blue...I can use them for another star quilt (I collect stars!)...

I am so intrigued by your words quilt sloth...it is going to be interesting to see how you put all those different blocks together...I have not picked out words yet...

I want those scrappy around the world blocks, now, please!  I just love to look at pieces of everyone's stash!!!

everyone---if you posted the pictures in Craftster picture hosting, you can go to your gallery and edit your pictures to not be upside down...it is really easy and would keep us from having to turn our laptops upside down to look at your lovely blocks! ;D

Noooo... Not always.  :'(

When i look at my pics in the craftster picture host they are right way up. When i view on my ipad, they are right, on my mobile, upside down... I cannot figure it out. And i quit trying.  Same with the stretched or squooshed images.

And it doesnt seem to matter if i take pics with my phone or the ipad.

I give :-\

Really?  When I looked on your craftster hosting, all of the pictures are upside down or sideways.  I bet it is a setting...I like looking at mirror images sometimes so I set my computer for that...I have to remember to undo it or else everything is "reversed"...I'll ask some of the other mods about this...we just assumed people did not know about correcting their own pics...

I flipped them for you...

:D thanks.  There are wee stories about all the people who live in those houses.

I may spend too much time alone.

Eta. It's finally happened. I have aimr's address memorised. I only had to check if the burg was a 'u' or an 'e'.   Now i get to wonder what  the vitally important information i will never ever remember again is. ;)

Also.  The ease of that makes up for the finger (and mind) bending complexity that is A_W's address. :D i love Wales...

homerof2--I hope you are feeling better! Love the blocks!

I had to deal with a family crisis this weekend but should be ready to hit the blocks this week!  My craft room looks a mess with fabrics stacked in piles, but I am ready to cut and sew!  I bought a few bobbin boxes and sorted them all out...lol why on earth do I have eight bobbins of turquoise thread? ha ha

Loving the blocks...carol--the filler blocks are fabulous!!!!!!!!  It will make the quilt interesting and more fun!

lol amazon--you picked some interesting words...what is twee? slang? Love the stitching you used for it!

I still need to pick two more words for sloth...

I didn't think it was, but the internet tells me it's considered more of a british adjective that means overly cutesy.  I like the word even if I'm not a mad fan of what the word represents, if that makes sense.  Thinking about it, perhaps I ought to have done it in death-metal lettering instead!  :P

I did a thing! I uploaded aimr's blocks! :D The pic is, as always, a bit darker than reality... but some squares on the left ARE in black, because it's a fabulous print and it felt suitable (and it has lovely shiny gold in it). Right click and hit "view image" to inspect it closer, and let me know if it's off and I'll redo it :)

I finally got a chance last night to cut out some of the blocks!

I have a card written up to ready to go out with my blocks. I thought maybe an offline. "You good" might spur her to dropping a quick "hey" back. Except I cleared my inbox three weeks ago and her address is disappeared.

I received Carol's blocks.

I went to the doctor yesterday to be sure I didn't have pneumonia and he says I don't, just a bad case of influenza.  It's been going around our area since January and he tells me it may be a couple more days before I start improving.  Grr!

I had that in Jan/Feb--and mine was pneumonia!  I had it for over a month..coughing, ick!  Hope you feel better soon...it is a lingering virus of some sort, but I promise you will get better! ;D

Posted some peculiarly sober houses.. :D My usual wonky side isn't really with it today. Please give me feedback if I got things wrong, I'm not particularly awake :)

I may be a bit quiet 'cause my cat has been diagnosed with diabetes, and we're just starting treatment. He's a happy, hungry bugger so it should work out fine, but it's stressing me out enough that I keep dreaming that the insulin timer goes off and I wake up thinking it's morning, every hour :D Also worrying how the "feed often" will work out with work, since he's a bastard at breaking food timers. But we'll see :)

Mine from sloth came as well!  They are fantastic and look great with the ones I received from quaggy!!!

I finished homerof2's blocks...and they turned to be the right size thanks to my new 1/4 foot and new ruler (after years of cutting, I must have sliced off at least 1/8 of the ruler and lost accuracy there!)....

Working on carol's blocks tonight...

Finally!  Posted something!  Homerof2's blocks...no matter how careful I was using my new ruler and new quarter foot, the finished blocks are still a bit off (about 1/8 of an inch)...is there a secret to doing these?  I have read tutorials where you cut everything bigger and then cut down, but it seems like a lot of cutting.  Any tips or hints about what could be going on?

Let me know if you can't use them, homerof2 and I will remake them using any trick I can! ;D

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: carolmb on March 17, 2016 04:04:05 PM
I pressed the heck out of the ones I made and they turned out to size, but it was a lot of pressing

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: alwaysinmyroom on March 17, 2016 07:01:42 PM
That is what I did, too...this is the second time for those blocks and I had the same problems...do you think the pattern might be off a bit?  I mean, I did scant 1/4 and everything!  A lot of the pieces are on a bias so maybe they get stretched funny?  It is frustrating not to get precise sizes when you try so hard!

Thanks, carol...that makes me feel a bit better...I am sure homerof2 can fit at least our blocks together...ha ha ha!

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery

AIMR, they are wonderful and not to worry for an 1/8"  :)

I won't ask for the Card Trick in future rounds, I promise.

I'm now feeling much better (although I still have to take it somewhat easy) and I plan to start sewing the rest of my blocks next week.  I did manage to get Sloth's cut out, just not sewn yet.

I love that block--really I do!  I have been reading various blogs and stuff to learn more about half triangles...I seem to be short with this particular cut, so I want to become better at it....I don't want to be one of those quilters who can only do squares and rectangles! ;D

btw--I shipped them anyway and left the little tracking slip at my office...I will get you and carol that info on Monday!  I am glad you are feeling better...I was pretty much sick all Jan and Feb!

I feel pretty stressed out about carol...I was thinking so much about her all day.  It is hard on our group since we have swapped with her so many times...I guess it is natural to feel this much sadness and worry...

Anyway, I posted the completed blocks I made for quaggy...I am going to work on more blocks to keep myself busy.  That is the only thing I can do to keep focused.

I am going to post my favorite house here.  I call it the love house because I do love this group:

Carol, so, so sorry to hear this news!  I will be praying for your family.

I made a block for Sloth today only to find out I had made it wrong  :(  I guess when I have a feeling something looks wrong, I should check the pattern before proceeding.  Oh well, tomorrow is a new day and I'll attempt it again.

Melladh--I love the scrappy blocks you posted for me!

I posted the buzz saw blocks I made for carolmb.  I swear I have looked at them so many times that I can't even tell if I did them correctly.  Can someone please look at mine and make sure they are going the right direction and that the corners are correct?  I have ripped them out more than once and now I am not 100% especially when I see them side by side.  Are they all three the same?

I love love love my houses!!!!!

Buzz saw looks good to me. They appear to be all the same but I have been known to see things wrong sometimes.

I redid my three blocks for amazon_warrior....they came up to short to work so when she pmed me I knew I wanted to be a part of her quilt so 3 more will be sent on Monday hoping she can use the others for a wall hanging or pillows.

Thank you hun!  :)  I showed off all the blocks yesterday at Quilt Club, and all of them were much admired.  A wall hanging sounds like a great idea for them.  :D  (I love cushions, but eventually one runs out of room on the bed...)

carol--I hope that you can find some relief in doing what you love to do...do you have family in the area to be with and to help take care of things?

I assume being on Craftster is something you want to keep busy...

I checked the list...I sent to homerof2 in Group 1 as well as to quaggy.  Do you need me to send the PM again to you?  The second one had the tracking number.

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery

no always I will update the list I might of just overlooked the total number of sends

and no I have one daughter here and one in RI.  I am making it. I have my little break downs then pull myself together and try and get things done that need to be done. I am trying to keep myself busy and keep moving. getting his affairs in order and figuring what comes next lol.  it all works out in due time. the pain dulls and the memories return to the happy ones to cherish and hold

I got the correction made for your sends to group 1

Happily almost done with flying geese for sloth and melladh's blocks...I love those dark blues...and...looks like next round I will be fabric shopping to replace them! ;D

hope everyone had a happy crafting weekend!

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: Melladh on March 27, 2016 11:43:02 PM
Good morning. I've (hopefully correctly) cut out the 72 pieces for sloth's geese. :) With blankets and wool shirt and knit booties and a blanket it's JUST warm enough to sit outside, so I'm going to sit here and mark the back of 48 of those pieces... Good plan? Great plan.

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: alwaysinmyroom on March 28, 2016 06:43:58 AM
I do four geese at a time so I only had 30 pieces...they never turn out the right size for me so I have to test one first and adjust...

Melladh...on your pattern, can you do the green corner before putting the block together or must it be done at the end?

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: Melladh on March 28, 2016 12:47:03 PM
You have to do it at the end, because you trim to size just before adding them. If you add them first and trim later, you'll be off. You can cut the pieces more exactly to begin with, but it does lend itself to be further off measure if you do. Trimming allows you to center the star as well.

melladh--thanks!  I figured it out after I made the first block using your amazing tutorial...I think it came out perfect, so I will finish the other two tonight! YAY!

Me I need more blues, darker shades I have come to realize!  I am a leech, I am not leaving this group and AIMR  made the perfect quote " this is not drama,
 but real life"

Carol you are family to all of us we are bound by thread fabric and crazy ideas one day we will all need to lean on you for the same support and I know you will be standing there with your arms wide open offering each of us the words and support we need!

My crazy house blocks arrived today from AIMR, they are so cute and quirky!

Reds I better check my stash!  Me maybe purples and greys but don't count on it I may find another fun pattern that screams lots of colors

Title: Re: Quilb Block Swap Round 9 Gallery
Post by: Melladh on March 29, 2016 07:19:09 AM
*writes down reds, just in case* I should really remember to note these things when they occur to me, because now I can't remember what my stash disappointed me with yesterday... Maybe the lack of neon blue. >_> NEON I SAY.

And carol - what they said. Course of nature "drama" isn't a deterrent. Only reality TV style drama will be abhorred. :D Eh... I'd make some sort of reference to something if I had seen any in the past ten years. Not having a TV is really beneficial :P

I made minor progress (https://melladh.wordpress.com/2016/03/28/scavenged-corners/) yesterday, and it's past four in the afternoon now so any time I should have caught my breath and be able to continue doing the other corner of the geese... :D Between too little sleep and veterinary runs (first for a scheduled followup, then back with the suddenly relented required sample from my super neurotic cat) I'm ridiculously tired. Had breakfast at seven, and lunch at three... and I am a fat(ish) bitch, I need my lunch :P

thank you all for your support means the world to me.

I don't have much family and over the time this place has become like family.

I am take it day by day and trying to find the new normal LOL gotta laugh because things feel so far from normal right now

I checked my stash for colors and am good to go for the next round I think, but I am never against a run to the fabric store simply to make sure

playing catch up with class work which is never fun but I am slowly getting it done

I thought about sewing the other day, but right now its to hard. I look over at his computer desk and him not being there as I am working on something is just to painful right now

carol--are you studying something in particular or are you a teacher?  Was he ill for long? I think the hardest part of any loss is missing the day-to-day routine...just don't make any drastic decisions for a bit...I know my husband and I have talked about what we would do if we lost each other...I told him I would move closer to my sister, but now, I am not sure that would be a good idea...he has many medical issues, so it is something we have to discuss now...

I know this is horrible to say, but I am organizing my stash and getting rid of so much stuff now because if I go first, I don't want to leave him with a mess to clean up...or throw away!

I think I can safely say that we're all here for you as and when you need us.  :)  I don't see any drama, just a group of people being concerned over a friend who's experiencing a personal loss.  I know I'm a newcomer to the group, but I am really glad I joined and hope to join again in the future.  :)  *hugs everyone*

I know this is horrible to say, but I am organizing my stash and getting rid of so much stuff now because if I go first, I don't want to leave him with a mess to clean up...or throw away!

He had COPD and complications from that all hit at once. He went into kidney failure and had a heart attack all at the same time. They are not sure if the COPD which had been making breathing so hard caused the other problems or if the other problems made the breathing harder.
We  had talked about what to do at the others death a few times. I knew his wishes and I had my little check list of what business needed to be done to close out his affairs and he had a check list for me had it gone the other way.
and yes its the normal day to day that is hitting me the hardest. him just simply being here
am working on my BSN so I can get my RN and become a midwife

lol your cranes are killing me!  I appreciate the step-by-step instructions...I have learned a few more things about paper piecing...I am so glad I bought an add a quarter ruler...BUT...I am glad you are here as well to inspire and teach and swap with!

Ooo dear, sorry!  XD  If I join again, I'll try and choose something a bit more forgiving!  I'm glad if the tut is being some help, though I'm pretty new to paper piecing myself so it's a lil bit "blind leading the blind", I'm afraid!

@Carol:  I think my parents did the same, especially just before my dad decided to go onto the lung transplant list (he was a heavy smoker and had very bad emphysema).  He came out of the operation, but the new lung ended up infected and they had to keep him under.  We (mum, my sister and I) were nearby in hospital accommodation while they fought the various complications as they arose, but in the end too much failed and he passed away about a week after the op, having never really regained consciousness.  So... yeah.  *double hugs* because I have a slight idea what it's like seeing someone go like that.  I know mum still misses his company even now, 11 years on.   Good luck with the studies, a midwife is a fine thing to be and if it helps to have something to focus on, so much the better.  Everyone copes differently.

wow--what a fabulous profession you have chosen for yourself!  It takes a very special person to be a nurse...and brains!  Both of my nieces are nurses...one is a CNA and the other is studying for her LPN. Lots of hard work since she also takes care of a small son and is having another soon! A midwife is such a positive direction to go...bringing in new lives!  It is a miracle each time, I think!

lol Amazon---I am not complaining about the cranes...they are fabulous!  I am just challenged when it comes to paper piecing because I always forget which way to put the fabric...I have learned to cut BIG pieces! ha ha  I also have notes on my bulletin board...WRONG SIDE OF FABRIC FACES UP!  I also want to make a couple for my sister...she loves anything Japanese so I was thinking of making her a tote, if that is alright with you.

AIMR - Go for it!  Would love to see a pic if you make one.  :)  I have so much trouble with remembering which way up to have the fabric, too.  I lost count of the number of times I cut a piece and then realised it was a mirror image of the shape I *actually* needed...

always: I have been a CNA and a private care provider for 20+years. I would like to see new life coming in vs. being at the end of the persons life for a while.

Amazon: yes it helps me to have something to do. I am the type that needs structure, need to feel like I have a plan for the day and a goal to meet LOL

I think part of what I am having such a hard time getting around is the fact we were on the way to the VA for an appoint I had to fight to get him into because he had been feeling so sick and weak for a week. They did not want to see him till May 14th. I had to throw a fit to get at Tuesday appointment, then on the way there he stopped breathing and I rushed to the ER, by the time they got a pulse he had been without oxygen for 20+minutes. I left him on life support till his kids from his first marriage could come say good bye and be there at the end. I am trying so hard to not be angry with the VA system but if they had seen him the week before like I wanted he might still be here and that is part of what is so far for me to accept.

It's always terrifying to think how well you really have to be to be able to convince people to treat your illness. Our ambulance service seems to be going in that direction, pray no one actually needs one...

Posted sloth's geese.

Caught up on the last few pages...

Carol, so sorry to hear about your hubby!  The fact you can still be on here is amazing to me as I would be a basket case if I lost my man.  I can't find the drama you are worried about  ;)  as others have already said, it's sharing and caring amongst friends.

I must get the rest of my blocks finished, I really must and plan to work on them this week/weekend.  I can't stand feeling so far behind.

homerof2: I have my moments were I am a basket case trust me! I have to keep pushing to get things done, I have to keep moving to keep the memories from flooding me, I keep going till I am so tired at night that I do not fall to bits.

I still have those moments, sitting on the back deck and reaching over and him not being there watching the sunsets with me. coming home and not hearing the "welcome home babe", knowing when I leave the house will not be that little kiss and the words "love you babe, be safe and hurry home"

yeah it is the small things that you miss, the day to day things the simple little things you do not give a thought to at the time.

all the blocks posted look great! gonna be some amazing quilts from this round, you people are so talented!!

Melladh...the background is actually a beige-cream color...I brightened the picture because it was dark outside when I took the picture...if you think it is still too light, let me know...they were easy enough to make...I'll take a better picture of the actual fabric this weekend before I mail out...

No worries, they just looked super stark in the photo :) Either way I'd take them and give them a good use, I just wouldn't be able to use actual white looking things in the project :)

I adore all the blocks you're posting as well, would be so fun to see if people actually get around to putting things together.. :D I'm not really active enough on craftster anymore (since they changed the layout in like 2009 lol), y'all need to remember to post project links here if you complete something ;)

carol, just take care that you don't overwork yourself either. Distractions are helpful, hitting the wall less so. It causes measurable brain damage that takes years to repair. The breakdowns feel horrible, but don't rob yourself of things you might actually need either.

I've never had anything as bad as your events happen to me, but I know a ghost of it. I know how vast the silence suddenly seems, how it almost hurts your ears when there's no sound where there has to be a sound because there's always been a sound. I know seeing someone in the corner of your eye, then it turns out to be nothing, and then you remember all over again why it's nothing and always will be. It's like its own brand of insanity.
But we heal, horrible as it seems sometimes.
And we're with you, in the ether.

Melladh--It is really hard to get a good picture of the fabric I used...it is a tone-on-tone but not this obvious...to me, it looks to be a parchment color, definitely not white but not this beige either...

This is it next to a pure white box...just let me know if it is not the color you were thinking...like I said, no big deal to make them with different colors for you!

It looks great aimr :) The white box itself looks a bit off in your lighting, but the contrast against the print on the fabric is giving me a good impression, though I understand the print won't be that luminous irl :)

I just want to point out what happened (they've actually done substitution within some img-tags) before I fix it...

-new edit- ok now I can make it work :)

I posted carol's Bright Hope blocks...I think I accidentally deleted the Scrappy Granny Square pics so I will have to take them again in the morning.

Just about done with my words for sloth and the cranes...haven't even started the Fall fancy so I might do some cutting tonight.

I want to get done before the deadline since April 15 is fast approaching and I have a few more tax returns that will probably be last minute...ugh...of course my own will be put on extension until October! ha ha

Melladh...those fall fancy blocks are really nice!  I think mine will be a bit boring since I couldn't seem to find fabrics that I thought were fall...lol my fabric store has way too many pinks and purples this time of year!  And yellow!

blocks look wonderful everyone!

guess what I did? I know I know selfish me

My husband had been looking at embroidery machines. I am guessing mothers day. He had one that he had looked at over 20times LOL.

soooo I jumped off the save every penny wagon and ordered it. Nothing overly fancy. we had talked because I haven't a clue how to use one that I wanted something simple that would do a range of things.
well everyone I ordered a brothers PE770 with a starter kit that had different size hoops and thread samples!

It will not get here for a few weeks, but now I can make the memory pillows I have been looking at for the kids and grandkids out of their Poppi's buttondown shirts.

Funny because as I was looking on his computer trying to figure out what else I needed to do, he had been also already searching different gifts for the grandkids for the holidays and looking at some depressing things as well. I have a strong feeling he knew he would not be with us much longer so was trying to make sure I knew what to do. he had printed out forms I would need for the government, printed off updated check list. and all this roughly a week before his passing.

sad as it made me to see all that in his history on the computer and find the printouts beside the screen. it also made me very happy because he was always looking over us and continues to do so

aww carol---glad that you are taking comfort in some of the things he did in advance of his passing...and what a great idea to treat yourself to a new machine that you can do memory pillows! I know it is weird, but I have lost a lot of people and they all knew that they were going soon..

Can't wait to see the pillows and all of the projects that you will make with your new machine!  I have a Brother Embroidery machine...when I use it, I love it!

Nice job homerof2!  They are going to look lovely with the one made so far!

I am just about done with carol's fall fancy...I found a hidden stash of fall-like fabric that got mixed in with my Halloween fabrics...oh darn...

There is about 5 inches of snow on the ground...it is sad to see my red tulips peeking out of the snow...but at least there is nothing to do except make some soup, bread and quilt blocks! ;D

Carol--I posted the last of your blocks, Fall Fancy...the background color looks white but it isn't at all. It is even darker than the fabric I used for Melladh...my camera or computer seems to hate anything off-white or cream! ;D

The first one I made turned out 1/2 inch too small, but I will send it anyway...maybe you can use it for the back or another project! ;D  I didn't take a picture of it but it is exactly like the first block only smaller!

I used the guide that sloth did...lol I think with two of my "blocks" she nearly has half a quilt!  They turned out to be HUGE!  It was a pain to sew those 2 inch squares together, but fortunately, they were all from my pre-cut scraps...I cut my scraps into 2 inches, 3-1/2, and 5 inches so I had plenty to use.

I received my Cranes from always, and I love them!  They're beautifully done and the fabrics are perfect, thank you so much!  :D

Your tutorial was very instructive!  I learned the importance of using an add a quarter ruler and my mini iron...what a difference!  I have so many Asian-inspired fabrics that this pattern works beautifully with...thank you...I truly enjoyed this round so much with all of the things I learned from you and the others!

lol we know where you live...ha ha  they will get here soon enough!

I think the reason you, homerof2 and Amazon got yours so fast from me was that I used a large envelope instead of a package...I thought it would get returned because they are pretty strict on how thick and bumpy the package can be...since I only had three for each of you, I had to lay them evenly in the envelope...I think the cost was about $4....for sloth, I had 9 blocks and some were larger so I had to use a package price...it was $16!!!  Next time I might just mail each 3 blocks separately...;D.

We don't have the same type of structure as you do. Though it may be possible to sneak by the same way using thinner envelopes. But you either send as fully tracked, big, expensive parcels, or you send as a letter (which I always do, but customs forms are still required)

Post by: Amazon_warrior on April 19, 2016 06:32:12 AM
I was expecting to need to do customs forms, but all my blocks fitted nicely into large manila envelopes and the local Post Office didn't bat an eyelash!  :)

AIMR, I'm so glad you found the tutorial handy!  I'm very interested to see anything else you make with the Crane block.  :)

Decided to take a photo of all the Cranes together, and don't they look awesome!  :D  Thank you to all my swap partners!

Still waiting on the replacement blocks from Quaggy, but they're in the post and I'm sure they'll be here soon!  :)  I'm going to make up more scrappy flying geese blocks for in between, and then I have to decide about sashing or not and what to do on the edges.

Isn't the crane pattern a difficult one to do?  (I'm a crocheter, not a quilter. ;))

Uhmmm....  I don't know how much help my answer is going to be - I designed the block and it's also the first paper-pieced block I ever did!  One of the parts has a somewhat tricky angle, but otherwise I don't think it's too bad, but my swap partners may have other opinions!  ;)  If you fancy giving it a go, the pattern and a tutorial is here (http://theitinerantchemist.com/2016/02/01/origami-crane-pattern-and-tutorial/).  :)

Amazon-warrior the crane quilt is going to be wonderfully amazing!

I had not opened the card that was with my blocks from Homerof2 till this morning. and it was filled with paper and button hearts and a few reminders of where it came from Canada lol

it made me smile and laugh.

This swap and you all have been an anchor when I needed one. knowing others were depending on my to get something done gave me purpose and a drive to not sink into depression and I am very grateful to you all

well and wonderment

Yes super easy I am new to paper piecing and it was a breeze.   Sent 3 more as my measurement were off something to do with when I printed it out hoping the new ones arrive soon

Loving the layout what a beautiful quilt it will be!

Ohhhh...thanks for the answer to my question!  Quilting in general seems so difficult to me that I am amazed at any thing anyone makes in this area and applaud their work! :D

That is going to be a lovely quilt indeed!  I had forgotten that you were going to use flying geese as well...

I think the hardest part of paper piecing is remembering to cut upside down...I kept wasting fabric because I cut the pieces on the wrong side!  Once you get the hang of it, it is really pretty easy...the more pieces, the harder...but these were larger pieces and not so many of them! ;D

It is a mystery to me as to how to make the edges straight when you have diagonal blocks...do you fill them in with triangles?  I have a few quilts that I have not finished because I did not know how to do the edges...

Your geese are so cool in a horde :D Though they do make me slightly dizzy as well! Then again, that might be my stomach bug :D Is that more or less what you intend to do with them?

I love the scrappy granny squares!  The quilt looks like the kind my granny used to make..it has a vintage feel, but the lime green centers make it more modern feeling as well.  Lovely!

and, whoa...seeing all of those flying geese together is mesmerizing, I agree.  I had no idea what your plans were for those...incredibly, they look like we all got the sizes at least in the ball park! ;D

Second...I was trying to envision what your quilt would look like, sloth!  Well, awesome comes to mind!  It is huge, colorful, fun and plain wonderful!  ha ha   I love all your words!

That's amazing! I totally want one :D Though I'm still not done with what I've got lol. Got the latest stars off at the long arm quilter's now, and generally being worried about getting it back in time (as I've had no response on my latest e-mails), but here's hoping. :D

I love how it looks like "fuck cat" is its own statement ;D

And I too think after the holidays will be a good time for a QBS comeback!
