Title: boyfriends birthday tardis
Post by: neika on December 01, 2015 11:02:44 AM
what do you get the guy who has everything and you have only been dating a few months. i wondered this for a while and then decided i should make something for him that shows his nerdy side to the world, also i just bought a straight edge glass cutting tool... then i remembered why we started talking in the first place, Doctor Who. well what else could i do but make him a tardis.  i have also made a smaller one, maybe for me but not sure yet.

i might have set the bar a little high as now i don't know what to do for christmas  :D

Wow! Did you ever! He's going to have understandably high expectations from here out.

The TARDIS works so well in stained glass - I never would have expected it. The dark blue glass is perfect and beautiful. Now I'm curious how hard it would be to enamel the Police Box lettering on the sign panel. You'd need a kiln, of course, but I wonder if there are any clever tips for transferring the black enamel on. Maybe with laser printing, or a rubber stamp... any glass workers have ideas?

OMG that is gorgeous!  I am not even a Dr. Who fan, but the colours, and the use of the textured glass - STUNNING!

There are a number faux enamel techniques and materials out there - one is one that Wendy Vecchi using embossing glue, embossing powder, and a heat gun, and Susan Leinart Kazmer has a faux enamel product that creates that look, especially with a bit of resin over top to add that dimension and gloss.  But I think they would not look right on the Tardis.

I have no idea if this would work but Dry erase markers and you can write something different whenever you feel like it.

That is amazing and beautiful! I love the window panes, especially--you can *almost* peep through them to see the Doctor and Rose!
