We will each make/decorate a 12-16" tall stocking (cuff to heel) and fill it with goodies. We will make/decorate and fill with our partner's tastes in mind. Each stocking will have at least 50% crafted goodies, the remainder may be purchased supplies or items. Everyone must post in the swap thread when they sign up as a swapper, and there will be weekly checkins every week in the thread! It's a very long crafting period and we would hate to lose anyone along the way. You may choose one of three sizes to do in this swap and you will be paired accordingly. Sometimes there will be an odd number, so please note if you are willing to do (for example) Small or Medium or maybe Medium or Large or work with a 3-way swap.
Small - concentrate on a fab stocking and fill with at least 3 crafted and 3 purchased items
Medium - do a great stocking and fill with at least 7 crafted and 5 purchased items
Large - aka Spoiler! A great stocking and no end of goodies!!

NOTE: This is a holiday based swap so please do not send late - there are times when life interferes with crafting and we all understand that, however, a temporary negative will be given to anyone who sends more than two weeks past the sendout date, according to Craftster rules. If you send late at all, it will be noted in your feedback. Communication issues will also be noted. We like to run a very nice, fun and timely swap.

You always make gorgeous stuff for my kids!! My thought was a stocking made with fun birthday fabric rather than holiday fabric but if that's not okay with Sevs I understand!

I sent in my questionnaire this morning.

Also, I had to go to Michael's for yarn and while I was there...well...there was an aisle with everything 80% off and I couldn't help myself...I know we don't even have partners yet but there's bound to be something in the pile of stuff that I bought that my partner will like! ;D

Hi LadybugsAndBumblebees!

Hey Roler, Love that stocking board, but aren't you worried you may not be giving your partner quite enough variety to choose from? Seriously, there are only like a million different styles on there :D

Title: Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 11
Post by: roler on October 08, 2015 06:04:19 AM
Oh, the vast majority of my pinterest is just inspiration for me to look at while I'm crafting, not necessarily things I want. I've got a few boards specifically for things I'd like from swaps, but haven't made one for this swap yet! Maybe I'll do that soon, and label it "stocking swap" instead of just stockings, and limit it to ones I want for myself! XD Thanks for the reminder!

I moved a few pins from my Stockings board to a "Stockings I'd Love to Receive" board, and apparently I really like the elf boot style! ;P It was fun looking through the whole board again though; there are so many styles I'd love to try... can't wait to see what my partner likes!

edelC, you may find that you need to get creative in making small sized, light items. I did that for the Mini Halloween swap and only paid $25 to ship one box. I was amazed, I thought it would be much higher.

That's not to say that I stiffed my partner with regards to quality. I'm quite proud of most of the items I made. I just added the criteria that the items I crafted had to be small and light. :p

yup that is exactly what I do, light and good quality, everything from here is mostly by weight, not volume, so it means that I do a lot of sewing. I envy the US flat rate boxes. I do a lot of craft swapping and the postage is nothing to the joy of giving and receiving. (I loved your haunted house ornament)

You are right though if you plan carefully what you are going to make, it can be surprisingly affordable.

I'm always willing to ship internationally because I appreciate all the kind people who ship to me in Japan! I'll be sending from the US for this particular swap though, since I'll be visiting my family then. (I actually haven't met any other craftster members in Japan, at least not in the swaps... I wonder if there are any?) And yeah, lightweight is the way to go... although I'm planning to mail something heavier for one of my current swaps; I hope it's not too bad!

It has been brought to my attention that in the past couple of rounds, some swappers made things that were not stockings, like tote bags or purses or whatnot. This is a Christmas STOCKING Swap, it does state in the description that we will make or decorate a 12 - 16 inch STOCKING.

Let's stick with the stockings please. :) You can always do what I've done in the past, I've been doing this swap for 10 years...I've given some of my amazing stockings to friends when they have babies! Another option is for homeless shelters or domestic violence shelters. It certainly would do my heart good to know that a stocking I made went to someone who would really have their day brightened! :)

Just out of curiosity, how many people like tree ornaments as stocking stuffers? I've been collecting a huge variety of ornaments since I was a tiny kid, and always love to add a few to my collection each year, and they're also one of my FAVORITE things to craft! Are other people hoping to get ornaments too? :)

Absolutely! I have maybe a dozen ornaments from craft swaps now and I love all of them and very much want more.

Title: Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 11
Post by: LadybugsAndBumblebees on October 12, 2015 06:46:43 AM
Unfortunately, I don't have the room on the tree or in storage for any more ornaments, so for me, roler, I'd have to say no. But I do like the little stockings as I like to fill them up and give them as gifts to people.

*slinks in embarrassedly* *raises hand halfheartedly into the air while blushing* I'm one of the naughty people that asked for something other than a stocking as my gift holder. *whew! sighs in relief for admitting that* ;D ;D ;D So now, I pity whoever will get me as their partner, because....

I would like my stocking to be made for my son. He is VERY fashion conscious, and we tease him all the time about it! I was trying to visualize how that would tie into a theme for a stocking last night, and I offer up this challenge to the sewers in this swap:

Would it be possible to make a stocking where the top was a folded down, button up collar with a bow tie underneath, with the buttons of the shirt making up the "leg" part of the stocking, and then some pant/jean material making up the bottom "boot" part of the stocking? So the stocking represents the kind of outfit my kid would wear. Does anyone get where I'm going with this?

And of course the bow tie and pant part of the stocking would have to be in obnoxious colors--this is the kid who wore a navy blue blazer, red bow tie, white shirt, banana yellow slacks, and penny loafters to his senior prom! He's the best!

*whew! sighs in relief for admitting that* ;D ;D ;D So now, I pity whoever will get me as their partner, because....

on my pinterest board (https://www.pinterest.com/teagam/christmas-stocking-swap/ ) there is a Harry Potter stocking that could be adapted

I love collecting and making ornaments, I would so love to add to my collection

I know this is a Christmas Stocking swap, but I was wondering if any body likes the idea of something more useful like a Origami Lotus bag, maybe a little bigger. Someone made one last time & I thought it was a good idea! Something that holds things & still useful! How about a tote bag or a organizer of some kind. Something else instead of the stocking, that holds a Lot of things like a basket , that we can use all year! What does everyone think?

I thought the same thing, Sharalee, but if you go back a bit in the posts for this swap, Sevs said she got wind that several people were asking the same thing and she asked that the swap stay to stockings and not any other type of container.

Sounds like we'll have to have a purse swap soon! :D

A purse swap is a great idea. I don't personally use "Christmas" stockings so I'm going to see if my partner will do an elf stocking or something similar. I questioned why I signed up for this swap when I don't celebrate Christmas but it's because I love giving :) It's what I do!

Title: Re:

Yes a purse swap "LadybugsAnnBumblebees" would be great too & a elf stocking would be good too "Sarasmile". Yes I asked "Sevs" she wasn't to happy about it! Because I put it on my questionnaire about a different container. Oh well another stocking is fine! Thanks guys for your opinions!

I dunno, it is a christmas stocking swap :D you wouldn't sign up for a Wiccan swap and immediately say "don't send me anything wiccan" or an ATC swap and say "don't send me an ATC" That said, I would be totally in for a purse swap filled with stocking stuffers!

Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to making an actual stocking, and I hope my partner enjoys Christmassy themes like Santas and snowmen for some of the gifts inside as well! I agree that if you have too many stockings you could give them as gifts or donations. I'm looking forward to everyone's interpretations though! :)

Since my family has welcomed it's first baby (I'm a new Auntie!), this year we decided we are only doing Secret Santa and then presents for the baby. We all pick a name and get one person one present. Usually I buy and craft for at least a dozen people and I make myself a Christmas costume to party and travel in (I do Christmas in two states) and since I'm pretty much finished with all Halloween projects, I'm already bored. I think this swap might be perfect for me =0)

I like the idea of keeping this a stocking swap.
And I was just the other day wishing for another "fill-a-purse" swap. Hoping someone organises one soon! (Preferably after this swap is done :D)

Title: Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 11

In the past, there has been the "unspoken" choice around asking for an alternative receptacle. There is therefore understandable confusion. I personally just would hate someone to go to such effort making a stocking (because they do take a lot of work) for it to not be used ! It would feel such a shame. There is also not the option of donation.

Title: Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 11
Post by: SevsOnlyGirl on October 14, 2015 06:55:04 PM
Just to clarify, there was never an 'unspoken' choice to not make a stocking...I clarified that this is a stocking swap in the very first post where you read the details of the swap every year. It states that you will make and/or decorate a 12-16 inch stocking. I'll be honest -I could have left negative feedback for not following the details of the swap, but I chose not to. This swap is not for everyone and that is understandable. There are a variety of Christmas themed swaps open at this time that include gifts/crafts and no stocking, it's super easy to start a swap! That's the great part of Craftster - something for everyone! :)

Please be mindful that we all need to remain gracious to one another and not say things we are not completely sure of. At no time was I unhappy or angry that anyone asked me about the swap. Each swap organiser chooses the details of their swap, keeping with Craftster rules, and it is up to the swap organiser if s/he wishes to ask for opinions beforehand or if s/he wishes to just begin it.

Oh! The Fill-A-Purse swaps and Fill-A-Tote swaps were amazing! I absolutely hope that someone does one later! I'd love to join!

Thanks for the clarity sev, and so glad you didn't leave negative feedback ! That would have been terribly shaming for those of us with lapse reading skills. You are right though, I hadn't read it properly and you are totally correct to hold your boundaries.
Unfortunately lovely ones, over here hospitals and children's homes are so rigid in what one can and can't donate and any children's items have to show a registered child safety label. And I don't have any family members to donate to :( as I said in my previous reply, these stockings take loving time to make and I wouldn't want to dis-respect that time, so this time I'm out. But I'm looking forward to watching the galleries explode with your wonderment :)
Thanks again sev for your clarity

I am thinking of joining. I hope that my partner will want a stocking, and love all things Christmas as much as I do. I think I will do a small this time if I join so I don't stretch myself too thin. I also think I will get one for my husband. I have one for myself, and each of my daughters from previous stocking swaps. The one he has is just a store bought one.

I have a stocking that was made in a previous swap...I have too many stockings, but I want more..I love them hanging around the place for decoration. Sadly santa doesn't fill them all, but there is always room in my house for more decorations..

to change the topic..

when does everyone unpack their stocking?? We get up early-mercifully not at the crack of dawn any more, now that my daughter is a grown up- and unpack everything around the tree, before breakfast..munching on the chocolate that is always in the stocking...

Another option for a place to donate stockings are women's shelters. Many of them look for items to provide families with house goods to get them on their feet again. I'm sure a lovely stocking would go over well.

I decorate with the extra stockings too. I put them in our tiny hallway, in the bedroom, the second bedroom/craft room, the kitchen. They're all so lovely!

At my mom's we do our stockings last. At home, I can't remember if my husband and I do them first or last.

Yup, I love decorating with stockings!

My brother and I stay at my parents' house on Christmas Eve, and in the morning the four of us open our stockings together like when we were kids, before we go out to the big extended family party at my aunt and uncle's.

I'm excited for this swap, my family stopped doing stockings a few years ago when my younger brother started college and I miss it. I'll at least put mine out as a decoration, and maybe even convince my roommate that we should fill each other's. If not, at least I get to do the one for this swap- I have a lot of cool ideas.

For the last few years I am the one who fills the stockings for everyone but no one fills mine! Thats why I am so excited for this swap! We usually open our stockings first thing in the morning unless my boyfriend is really hungry then he makes me wait while we have breakfast first :-\

Now that our kids are older, we have them wait till seven AM to wake us up. We open our stockings first, while everyone is still waking up.

Title: Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 11

As a kid, I got up at the butt crack of dawn to open mine! I tried to wait and space it out but I couldn't ever resist. Mine was always opened long before anyone else woke up and then I had to watch them all open their's. I never understood how my family could wait until after breakfast to open them!

Sharalee...I did the same thing and now I feel bad. I didn't mean to say that I wouldn't use the stocking or that I would give it away, I was just hoping someone one be willing to make one more to my taste. I'm sorry I said anything! I will love whatever is sent because to me, it's more about the giving.

Santa leaves the kids stockings at the foot of their beds Christmas morning so they can open those while waiting for mom and dad to wake up. The only thing that goes in my stocking is candy - specifically, the leftovers from me putting candy into the kids stockings. I hand the candy and my stocking to my husband and he dumps the candy in so he can say he filled my stocking for me. The routine is getting a little old :D

Last year I picked my husband to get the crafted stocking and I crafted for a husband as well. That was fun and my husband really appreciated it but this year I am picking myself to receive it.

Since I was a child we could open our stockings when we woke up and I do the same thing with my kids. I would have been to twitchy to wait until everyone was up, my sister always slept in so it pissed me off >:( we do have breakfast before opening presents though.

We open stockings as soon as everyone is up and husband has a cup of coffee in hand. We then move on to gifts...then eat.lol

When I moved in with husband, on Christmas Eve I put out his stocking and my daughters - all filled and pretty. I laid out my empty stocking. He looked at me and said, "Am I supposed to fill that?" with a panicked look.lololol I found out later that he unwrapped a couple small things to put in there. He does a good job now. :)

I wasn't. Sure the pm sent. Happy to see me on the list. :)

Growing up stockings were always an afternoon/evening event. Mom always used the remnants of the package wrappings for stocking stuffed wrapping.
Current traditions are, on my side of the family-we open stockings after dinner and my sister always puts pencils in, wrapped. On DH side his mom is the stocking filler and usually she gets impatient and hands them around if we end up waiting on family members.
For our house, we do stockings she. We can fit it in between running around from location to location.

Some patterns too! Quilted ones, also make a TM Patches one, that'd be cool, just so many & so fun!

Yes it would be a little hard "roler" but it could work! Kind of like making a circle patch & have template so they would be the right sizes. It could just be patches on one side of the stocking! It would look great!

sewmess, that is a super idea. Why haven't I been doing that all along? I am a wrapping/tissue/bag reusing fool so that is a perfect plan. I just have to figure out how to implement it. I don't have children, only a cat :) and my sisters and nieces and nephews are so old now we don't have the same rules and time frame we used to.
I am really looking forward to this swap because my husband doesn't really 'get' the whole stocking thing. Sevs, my husband did the same thing, he puts little things in it now but it's never full! It's supposed to be full dear!!

Yes, signups are done, I am adding the final swappers - 8 of them!

Then I will work on partners. I am also cleaning house and packing for a conference, so they may come out tomorrow, while I am at the airport.lol We'll see how far I get this afternoon - it might go faster than I think!

*dancing* *singing* Sevs is the best! Better than all the rest! ;D

Thanks for letting us know! This swap always has so many participants! Cleaning house sucks. I know when I do it I take a lot of breaks and go on the computer...anything to put off cleaning. :P I also like to take snack breaks. ::) You seem so busy, Sevs, thank you for organizing this swap! :)

P.S. How about a group of us Craftster members go to your house and help you pack and clean and you can work on partners??!! ;D ::)

I posted partners!! Now please pay attention:

1 - if you joined and have not posted in the swap thread, please do so before Thursday (tomorrow) morning.

2 - checkin will be this weekend, hopefully Friday. I will post and be sure to make it large text to be noticeable. Please be sure to do ALL checkins. Trust me, they will be questions to spark conversation or just silliness.

3 - I will be sending out questionnaires as I have time tonight or tomorrow. Feel free to contact your partner right away though. :)

Ok, now I have to make dinner, pack and hang with my family for a few minutes. :)

Okay, Checkin #1:

What was the best Christmas present you have received as an adult?

The best for me, because it was so funny, was sock monkey pajamas from Santa. I really don't care for sock monkeys but my hubby adores them. So Santa brought me pj's and I laughed so hard I cried. Then I wore the darned things.lol

To be honest, it's probably the items my kids make for me, or buy for me at the "shopping fair" the schools have for the kids in the younger grades. Now that my kids are 21, 13, and 11, I truly realize how quickly those years pass. (Answer to check in question.)

I've been alternating between working on an item for Sharalee in this swap, and for my partner in another swap. I'm in crafting nirvana!😆

Adia is going to be so excited. Thank you for accepting the challenge of a unique take on a stocking! I'm probably going to have to make one for my son's birthday too!

The best present was a camera which was the last gift I got from my mom before she passed away. She knew it was most likely going to be her last Christmas with us and went a bit overboard. It could have been a t-shirt and still would have been just as special

Hey Ladies! I haven't even checked out my partner message yet only because I just finished up my daughters 5th birthday party yesterday and well that is very stressful! Nowadays it's all about impressing the parents and not the kids and when they know you're the "crafty" mom they expect a lot... Hate to break it to them I did not make the Thank You's this year! Ha ha!

My favorite adult gift would have to be the year my husband bought me my .... Well this year I think he is getting me a Wii so could that count??? Ha ha!

My husband got my a Roku a couple years ago so I can watch Netflix on TV. Definitely a game changer! This year we're doing a joint gift to ourselves: redeeming all of our swagbucks and getting an Assassin's Creed Xbox One bundle. Swoon.

My favorite adult christmas gift? Wow that's a toughy...I thought it was funny when my dad(not always so creative) bought me a tall decorative curvy vase. The best part was how he wrapped it: tight in wrapping paper so it was obvious to everyone what it was, but to him it wasn't lol. A great xmas memory for sure. :)

Best gift as an adult might just be the heavy bag my husband got me last year. I may not use it as often as I should, but it's always good to have it when I am working through stress from work.

adult gifts? oh wait no, just gifts we received as adults, not adult gifts. I don't know, I guess it would have to be a cabinet my mother and father got me - mission style, just the right size for holding a million dvd's. Christmas was all done, all the wrapping paper was thrown in recycling, eating was done, dishes were done, we were about to head home and my mother and father had these very big suspicious smiles on their faces. They looked at each other started laughing and then my brother ran off to get this big huge wrapped package and it was for me. Complete and total surprise and so lovely.

funniest would be my husband buying me a set of everyday dishes with only 4 place settings. There were 5 of us in the family at the time?? My husband's birthday is not long after Christmas and my mother gave him 8 place settings of the same pattern for his birthday so I did end up with more than enough for everyone, but we all thought it was hilarious that he didn't get enough for us to sit down to dinner.

My favorite Christmas presents almost every year are the plane tickets my parents buy me so I can go visit my family in the states for the holidays! Without their help, I wouldn't be able to visit nearly as much, and just being able to spend Christmas with the family is the best present!! XD

My best present was when I was a teenager. I wanted this tape recorded at Sears in the catalog, it was a small reel to reel one & I wanted it really bad! So my Mom said if I earn half she would pay the rest! I babysat a lot back then & I save it with in a week or so! I think it was around $50 or so! So I got it! I was so happy! I played that tape recorder & made tapes for several years! I still have it somewhere! Ha Ha!

A dear friend is an amazing woodworker. I had long adored a long shelf she had over her back doors. She completely surprised me, by making me one for Christmas. It was such a thoughtful gift and something that a lot of time had been put into.

I have so many! I have had a lot of awesome gifts...I think my favorite ones are the cooking ones. My sister got me a really nice granite mortar and pestle so I could make my own red curry paste and a few years ago my friend Alia got me a pasta machine. I have only used each gift a few times but that's exactly why I didn't buy them for myself!

I'm starting to feel behind in every damn swap I'm participating in! I'm going to take a few deep breaths and get my stuff together. :) 'Tis the season for craziness, I suppose.

I don't immediately have a best gift that comes to mind. Last year, my brother made me a wood carved reindeer that is absolutely stunning and my sister got me Bananagrams which I absolutely love!

Hey Partner! I totally get how you feel! I signed up for like 3 swaps weeks before my daughters birthday.... let's just say I was overly optimistic about how much "spare" time I would have!!! Ha ha! At least this and one other are my only ones for now! And of course my MIL is coming in 3 days and now I need to clean the house as well!!!

Oh well I work best under pressure anyway! ;D

The best gift....for years we had to payoff school debt plus having a young family dh and I didn't do many gifts for each other. Now that things are FINALLY paid off, last year he got me a new Canon Camera- my old one broke years ago so I was just using my phone! That was a fantastic gift!

I am getting started on things- have a growing pile in my craft room. Still need to figure out the actual stocking!

Best gift received in adulthood hmmm ???..... A memorable one is from my wonderful Mother in Law. She asks every year what do you want for Christmas and one year I was just frustrated and didn't even know what I wanted for myself. So I said "World Peace would be great" and she laughed. But on Christmas day she gave me a lovely necklace from Brighton that said "World peace" and we both laughed. I still laugh about it when I wear it because my mother in law really tried to give me "world peace". ;D

I've got the stocking figured out. Now to decide what goes in it.

Can we make things that don't fit in the stocking? I have tons of ideas, but they are too big to stuff.

My favorite gift (or gifts rather) as an adult was last year. My Mom always gets me pajamas, which I open on Christmas Eve (Yes, even at 29). My boyfriend gets me whatever I send him links for. My Mom got me pink bunny pajamas from A Christmas Story and my boyfriend unknowingly got me the matching hoody (that I asked for).

I opened the pajamas first and then saw the look on his face (not to mention the pink gift bag he wrapped it in) and yelled "You got me the hoody too, didn't you!" He sure did.

Me with my niece on her first Easter =0)

Sorry I'm a little late, I'm still working on Halloween things =0)

Ok, 2nd check in time!!

How many places do you visit for Christmas? Do you do all of them on Christmas Day?

We attend a party for my side of the family at my aunt's a couple weeks before Christmas. We do not go to my parents or his parents for the holidays - my parents and most of the siblings are estranged and his parents got mad at us a couple of years ago. Oh well. We go to hubby's aunt's house every other year on Christmas Day.

It's a lot more relaxing and enjoyable than it used to be! :)

For christmas eve we go to my husbands grandpa's house where his mom and step dad also meet us. Just nice family meal and gift exchange. We don't go to xmas parties or anything. Christmas day we stay home as a family and watch classic movies and open the gifts from my family(who live in canada so we usually don't see them except in the summer).

I go next door to my father's house. Christmas Eve is his birthday and most of the family shows up for a potluck celebration. After he opens his b-day gifts the kids open gifts from the aunts and uncles. The adults do a gift exchange game. Christmas dinner is a smaller crowd and my brother cooks.

I travel to my family's home in the USA for the holidays, and on Christmas Eve we have a big dinner and present party with my dad's relatives, either at Grandma's house or my parents'. We have a quiet stocking time with just my nuclear family on Christmas morning, and then go out to my aunt and uncle's place about an hour and a half away for the big party with my mother's side of the family. I have eight cousins on that side of the family and we always have a blast playing ridiculous party games.

Christmas is an unusual time for us. Some family members and a few adopted family members come for dinner and gift exchange. The day after is an open house for friends. We gather for games and puzzles, shared snacks and conversation.

roler, sounds like fun. I'm an introvert but I love all the "gatherings" at Christmas.

We have a lot of places and people to get to. But i'll try to stick to the Christmas Eve and Day ones but we spend the preceding week driving to about three different gatherings.

This year my sisters aren't speaking and my MIL is getting ready to have surgery so that will make it an unpredictable season :(

Christmas Eve is an all day thing with my sisters family. They are my half-sisters from my fathers first marriage and we've always been close. There are about 25 of us in the immediate family and we exchange tons of gifts and eat tons of food (they are fantastic cooks and will literally make you whatever you ask for). Special diets? You betch! Baked Alaska? Coming up! Ham beyond your wildest dreams? Right this way!
It is so much fun. It is truly a blessing to have them.

Christmas Day I will go to my sisters house early to exchange gifts with her and her kids, again. We'll probably be in our pajamas and drink coffee, you know. Sister stuff.

Later we will go to see my husbands family, they are great, too and I can always count on some fancy coffee in my basket.

We try to stay home for Christmas but usually end up spending a few hours at my SIL's house, where the rest of my husband's family usually gathers for gift exchange. My mom and dad usually come to our house, either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Growing up we never traveled for Christmas - my dad was a pastor and always had Christmas Eve services and sometimes Christmas Day services as well. Christmas Day had a strict order too: Santa Presents, breakfast, get dressed, family gift exchange, light lunch, wait for Mom to wrap her stocking stuffers, Stockings rounded out with dinner of T-bone steaks.

Now my Christmas is non-stop; luckily all in town.
Starting on Christmas Eve we do my family's tradition of setting up and decorating the tree at my sister's house between church services (Christmas Eve service for the Presbyterians and Midnight service for the Episcopal)
Christmas Day morning we head over to my in-laws for breakfast/brunch and present/stocking madness (sometimes it's the week before, depending on when my sister-in-law and family can make it up from about 200 miles downstate) then home to feed/walk the dog and take a nap before heading back to my sister's for presents, dinner and stockings - in that order.

Then home to drop from exhaustion, just to get up the next morning and head to work.

We use to have have events going on the 24th and 25th. It got too exhausting. So, now we switch every other year we have my whole family over for Christmas dinner and singing. the off years we go to dinner at my sister in laws house for dinner and games. Christmas day we spend at home, no huge events to have to clean the house for anymore. It is great. Sometimes on the off years my parents will pop by for a bit on Christmas day. But they know to expect Christmas chaos-wrappings still everywhere!

Back when we had family, we always did Christmas eve at my grandmother's with my parents, my aunt and uncle and their son, and my brother and then the exact same crowd was at our house for Christmas day. Not to get depressing, but my grandmother is gone, parents are gone, my cousin moved to seattle and my aunt and uncle winter in Florida. So now we have a nice low key Christmas with just my brother (who lives with us) my husband, the 3 kids and me. My husband has 4 brothers and a sister, but they are all much older with huge families of their own (can't believe my husband's brother is expecting a 13th grandchild!)

We go to two to three places and it's a mix of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. My family traditionally always got together on Christmas Eve and so did my boyfriends so we would do both of those and Christmas morning at our house with just us. Then my kids go their dads house for Christmas Day. Now that my mom is gone though I think things are going to be a bit different this year

We also have a tradition for Christmas eve. Homemade pizzas and old Christmas movies. We've had movie marathons that lasted for hours. The most fun was when my grandkids were little. We watched animated movies until they fell asleep, then switched to It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story and Miracle on 34th Street.

I made an executive decision a few years ago that I was tired of fitting into other peoples christmas' (my family and I are not that close and my daughter and i lived in australia for a few years) so we decided to stay at home and even if it was only just the two of us --> dfarling daughter and I, we would still do the full christmas dinner, have it in our new PJs, lots of telly and chilling. Our doors are always open to people who don't have anywhere else to go.

So on Christmas day it is always at home, a few days earlier we do a visit to my mother, and sisters. I love being at home!

I admire those of you who have made your own traditions instead of trying to fit someone else's lifestyle. We made that decision years ago and it was the best one we've ever done. We always invite anyone who doesn't want to spend Christmas alone of with family drama. It seems to work.

On a crafting note, my partner and I have been chatting and we seem to have a lot in common. Thanks, Sevs for an awesome partner matchup.

My boyfriend and I do Christmas in two states. We live in Philadelphia and my Mom and four brothers are in CT. We spend Christmas Eve drinking beers with my family and then Mom hosts a breakfast buffet at her house where everyone is invited friends, family and friends who have become family. We eat and get hilarious. My brothers bring a grab bag of random stuff from a crappy dollar store so every one that shows up gets something to unwrap even if it's sponges or rat traps. My tradition is that I bring stick on mustaches for every one.

This is me and my buddy a few years ago (I'm dressed as a snowman. Christmas costumes are my other tradition)

Every one splits after breakfast to do their own thing. We get back on the road for a 3-4 hour trip back to NJ to have dinner with my boyfriends family. We usually spend holidays with my family because I never see them otherwise, but I am glad that very early on we found a way to spend the day with both families....and believe it or not, I love traveling on Christmas. Every one is already where they need to be, so there is no traffic.

I also make a 6 hour long mp3 disk of GOOD Christmas music for the ride both ways. I know it sounds impossible, but after 10 years of collecting, I can do it and i'm good at it and I love it =0)

Either a couple days before or Christmas eve we go visit my mom, sister, & nieces/nephews.
Then Christmas eve or day we visit my mother in law where my sister in law & her family come.
Finally right after Christmas I go to Texas to hang out with my father's side of the family (grandma who's going
to be 90 years old this Dec, my older brothers & sisters plus their kids, and my aunt.)

I'm thinking about revising my holiday plans next year because it is just crazy to do all the traveling lol.

As ive gotten older and got a full time job its been pretty impossible to visit anyone. I am a retail pet store groomer, so holidays I work. Now i just spend the holidays with friends and family that comes to see me!

And because i am a naughty girl who did not check in on the first one! Here i am!!

My favorite christmas present was a necklace that my mother had made for me out of one of my grandmothers sterling silver knives. My grandmother passed away when i was 10, right before our family made its first military move so we didn't really have time to mourn her passing. In the box with the necklace there was a lil card that said, and now she can be close to your heart forever. Something she held in her hand will always be around my neck.

We have family Christmas with my Mom's family before Christmas with a secret santa and lots of food. Christmas day my husband and I open our gifts with our kitty, then to my mom's to open gifts with her, my brothers, and my dad comes over too. This year my mom is visiting family in Iowa so I think everyone will come to our apartment. My mother-in-law works in care so we usually arrange to see her and my brothers-in-law a week or so later.

We used to go to my dad's parents' house for Christmas dinner, then later his sister's, but we seem to have drifted from his family. Frankly, I prefer just being at home with my family and relaxing with my husband.

Ack!! I've been busy crafting and searching for just the right supplies and I forgot to check in!!

I live alone so I go to my parents house (4 hours away) if all my nieces and nephew are in town. I either spend it with my friend and her family but we had a falling out. It's all good though because I have a "surrogate " family nearby that are my bff's and I love their kids so the plan is for me to be there with them this year and I couldn't be happier about it!

I'm here!!!! I got buried under work, but I finally see the light.

The best gift I ever got was from my mother-in-law - a KitchenAid Mixer!

We do my husbands parents on Christmas Eve, husbands uncle on Christmas Morning and my parents on Christmas afternoon. I despise all of the bouncing, but until our kids are grown, we will keep doing it.

I have a plan for the stocking and have some craft time this weekend - I'll be knocking out a big portion of the swap this weekend!

Busy here, too! But, I'm here. :) I haven't done a damn thing for this swap yet. I'll have to remedy that soon! I think I'll work out a plan tomorrow.

I usually stay with one of my family members for a couple days around Christmas. For a few years, it was with my brother and his family. Last year it was with my younger sister. This year, I'm leaning toward spending the holiday with my older sister and her family.

For Christmas we usually rotate in my family who makes the meal, my parents, my sister or me. Then we are able to all get together at one house and not have to travel around.

It's usually just my husband & me on Christmas! Sometimes our married kids will come over! I just can't make big dinner like I use to. They have their families to do things! My oldest just got married a couple weeks ago to a Chinese beautiful lady he helped to bring her over from China! She also has a cute 10 yr old boy & my son has 2 boys & 1 girl not living with them! I now have 14 grandchildren & 2 great granddaughters one ggd is 2 mos old & other one is 3 sisters. I have 2 sons & 2 daughters! So there spread all over!

I'm still working on my sketches for LBABB stockings I have a few bought Items! Some ideas for the things to make!

NO plans to leave the house, possibly starting the stocking today!

Ive finished with at least half of my crafted items for the swap, but my stocking still looks like crap. haha. I always do one practice one before i do the real one so i can learn from my mistakes and not have to give them to people! LOL.

I joked with my partner that i was going to send her both stocking so she could laugh at me and my complete lack of sewing machine skills.

Check In Question Time - this is a 3 parter! :)

Do you put up a real tree or artificial? Is your tree themed? When do you put it up?

We always did real trees and they bothered my asthma, so a few years ago we finally switched to artificial. Not as pretty, but it's ok. Our tree is not themed, unless you count hodge podge as a theme! We have a lot of handmade ornaments, special event ornaments and my Grandma's ornaments. I try to put it up on Thanksgiving, but usually at some point that weekend.

am I first to answer???l
I love a live tree but the last few years we travel to celebrate so the tree dies....
I ended up buying a fake one- pretty nice, and I do like that it has lights already but I really love the smell of the live trees! We just do one- with lots of ornaments, and as much as I'd love to have it up early- it usually is done the week before Christmas! (so then I just keep it up halfway through January!!)

PS- many crafts started- none finished yet. Hoping to change that this weekend.

We have always had a live tree until we started growing trees. Now we won't cut them down so we have an artificial tree.

And it is loaded with all of our many memories from many years of living. We never put up a tree before Thanksgiving and we usually leave it up until January 6 (epiphany).

Sometimes it takes us a week or so to get all the ornaments on it. And we always have a row of tiny bells at the bottom of the tree for the cat to play with. She loves them.

We put up two trees - and they are polar opposites of each other!

Our main tree is a real tree - I love real trees. It has very rustic décor on it - ornaments are made of wood, tine, and other metals.

Our second tree is a themed artificial tree. It is a BEAUTIFUL gaudy purple LSU tree. All of the ornaments are LSU themes, the tree topper is a football helmet, and the only gifts that go underneath it are LSU themed wrapped in LSU wrapping paper.

We decorate and put up the tree the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I have been working like a whirling dervish! Last night I did cut my partners stocking - tomorrow is a day of and I'm planning to be a sewing fool! I have several projects mapped out ... in my mind .... so we will see what happens tomorrow!

I live by myself, and rarely have visitors to my apartment, so instead of a tree I decorate myself with Christmas vest, sweaters, jewelry and socks. Sometimes I try to match everything to one theme, and other times it's just a hodgepodge of Christmas wonderfulness.

As a young child we always had a real tree until my mother got tired of cleaning up the needles. Then they bought a huge artificial tree which we put up every year for a long time.
We never decorated with the theme, just ornaments that all the children made, and ornaments my grandmother made. After my seven siblings and I moved out my mother bought a small artificial tree and decorated it with the Raggedy Ann and angel ornaments. At the end of Christmas season she took the decorated tree up to the attic, and brought it down still decorated the next year.

We put up our tree sometime after Thanksgiving. To me, Xmas decorating is so much work, to have it all up and done makes more sense if we do it when we have a longer time to enjoy it.

I was thinking about what kind of tree we have and why. Because we have had both artificial and real. And the only reason I could come up with that we do both is it depends on if hubby is up to getting the artificial one out of storage and putting it together, or if he wants to go with the "easier" way and purchase a real one! ::)

Ours never has a theme, although hubby wishes it did. We have my beloved Grandmother's ornaments on there, ornaments that were gifted to us from family, friends, or students, and many that we have purchased for our children.

We also have lights, garland, etc...

I finished Sharalee's stocking last night. Working on a small/medium item right now.

onecrazymom - our fake ones has lights on it too, since that (to me) was the biggest headache, I do like that part!

pinokeeo - I love that you have bells for the cat to play with! This will be our cat's first christmas, so I'm interested to see how she behaves. She'll just be a year at the holidays.

texscrapper - I KNEW you'd have an LSU tree! How fun!

kmac - I think it's super fun that you decorate yourself! :D After my grandma's kids all moved out, she got a 3 foot tree and left it decorated in the spare room.lol

Ladybugs - I do think the themed trees are pretty, my aunt has 4-5 themes she switches between, but I just can't give up my favorite ornaments. I love to look at them and talk about them when we put them on the tree every year. One that my Grandma made has a picture of her and it's my favorite, even she was not terribly crafty and it's a little cheesy.lol

Growing up we always had a real tree ( much to my sister's dismay, she is allergic to pine) I know when I moved out all we could afford was a tiny artificial purple tree but now I have a full size LED tree. I miss the pine but I dont miss the mess it created. My tree usually isnt themed, well not intentionally. I collect Disney's Sketchbook Ornaments, so over the years my tree has become more and more Disney :P

I like the idea about the bells, its going to be my kittens first Xmas this year too, I might have to get the bells to keep him from attacking the whole tree.

We have always had an artificial tree but this year we are planning to get a real tree for a chance. Both of our kids also have their own fake little trees that they decorate themselves.

We usually put up the tree and decorations on thanksgiving weekend.

We don't have a theme for our tree but we do collect ornaments from vacations and each year we give the kids ornaments related to something they did/liked that year so when they leave home they will each have their own box of ornaments to take with them.

Oh I got the material for my partners stocking yesterday so hoping it will get made tomorrow.

As a kid, my family would go out on my dad friends acreage, thigh deep in Canadian winter snow, cut down a nice fragrant tree and strap it to the top of our crappy car. Ah how I miss those adventures! Now with having cats that climb up our trees and a grabbing curious toddler, artificial is the way to go! It goes up Dec 1st after all thanksgiving festivities has passed and it is color themed with mostly silver, blues and whites in all shapes/sizes. We have a smaller accent tree we decorate with the traditional reds, gold and green ornaments.

I don't put up a tree because it's just me in the home and I don't care :) I do put up decorations, things from my grandma that make me reminisce about when I get them all out.

I am also in the allergic to pine category, so it's been artificial trees all my life.

I think I may have mentioned that my family tradition is to put up the tree on Christmas Eve, to be taken down on Epiphany. Absolutely no theming there.

Hubby's tradition is Thanksgiving weekend, artificial (apparently growing up they had one of those silver ones with multicolored lights aimed at it) and not really a theme, just whatever his mom feels like that year.

So, OUR tradition is becoming that we aim for the weekend after Thanksgiving, generally make it by the first weekend in December. Except for the year that our cat was a kitten in which case it was up, but not in the proper place. We had to put it in the Forbidden Room of Mystery (aka my husband's room of art & books) because she was always ending up in the tree at eye level.

No real theme, just whatever catches our eye or has been given to us. This gives us an eclectic assortment that includes: Captain America, Aaron Rogers, Batman (multiple) Darth Vader, traditional Dutch inspired angels, Nutcrackers, Haunted Mansion Mickey, various other Disney ornaments and small "traditional" ornaments.

And we try to not let it stay up past Epiphany. Or at least no later than the weekend after Epiphany.

progress? HAH I keep changing my mind. Too many good ideas. currently working on getting everything I need for the stocking itself & I plan on starting a medium this evening.

We have that same deal as ladybugsandbumblebees - some years we feel like putting up the artificial, some years it seems less bother to do a real tree. I like to do it on black friday when we are home for the thanksgiving holiday. Otherwise we tend to put it off and put it off... we never seem to have everyone home at the same time.

No real theme to it - I keep trying to move toward a blue and white Christmas. I would love to have my whole world turned many shades of blue with white, but so many of our ornaments have special meanings to us I don't think I could ever part with them even if they don't fit my blue and white wish. We have many from my grandmother, my mother, an annual tree trimming party we held for years and years, crafted by me as a child, crafted by my children, received in swaps, gifted to the children each year after performing in the church pageant... all are cherished.

I usually take it down January 7th and pack it up all by myself. I really like it to be up until the 6th but by then I am really ready for everything to get put away.

We had a real tree when growing up until I was in High School & then one of those silver artificial tree with the wheel that change colors! Then when I got married my parents gave it to us! We used it a few times. But when we had our kids we liked the real ones better!
But now we have had real & artificial! We love the smell of the real ones but don't like the mess! I had the big artificial one up last year so this year I think I'll just have my 2 ft one with little handmade ornaments & different things! The bigger tree is usually silver & blue ornaments with white lights! I love it! It's getting old & losing it's needles! We put it up usally the weekend after Thanksgiving & leave it up for my Birthday on Dec 30th & then I take all the decorations down the first week of Jan! It's sad & good too!

Here's our tree last year!
I've been working on a few small gifts! Still making sketches of the stocking getting it down to a couple I think! It's so fun figuring it all out & playing with fabrics & desiding what to use & things!

I use to go all out in years past and put a tree in every room (7 total)each had a theme but as I have gotten older and my son is out on his own its just one artificial tree in the living room.

Here is last years been doing this one for several years. It usually goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I have been working on another swap but have completed 1 crafted item for this one. I was also at Hobby Lobby and picked up a ________ _________since they were 50% off and I needed one for something else I wanted to make. I know what I am going to do for my stocking and hope to get started on everything next weekend. Since I am off the week of Thanksgiving and have no real plans, I will be making more progress.

Growing up we always had a real one tree but now I have an artificial. The real ones are so expensive!! We have no theme but I think I might do a color themed tree when my kids are gone. Now it's a hodgepodge of all their special ornaments. We always decorate the house and tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. Friday we always go to a movie since I have the day off then either that afternoon or Saturday the decorating begins. My lights go on the house the night before Thanksgiving if I can talk my honey into doing them. In fact I would have them up now but he says no!

I purchased lots of supplies and little stuffers yesterday on a craft store trip!

artifical tree here too and my daughter moans about the lack of a real tree each year. But it is way cheaper, plus a real tree would last no time as there is only one spot it can be in and that is in front of a radiator, so it would dry out and shed like crazy. Plus I hate the idea of cutting a tree to throw away a few weeks later-I know they are grown as a crop, but I still can't do it.

We have no theme, our problem is finding enough branches for all the decorations. I love decorations and can never ever have enough!!

I was going to blitz this swap this weekend as I have lots of ideas, but I decided to put my back out instead...what fun. :(

I have a small Christmas section on top pf our DVD shelf that stays up all year including a Charlie Brown tree =0)

~The Trailer Park Boys Christmas Special box (mostly hidden) and "Letters to Santa" which we got when we saw them live. And a printed card my bf gave me.
~A real life bar of Life Buoy soap (Christmas Story)
~A Trans Siberian Orchestra VIP pass from 2004.
~There are a few other Christmas cards from friends over the years that didn't make the photo

We spend Christmas traveling so we don't bother put up a tree. My Mom puts up a fake one that is decorated with ornaments from when we were kids....including a terribly embarrassing photo one from second grade when I didn't know it was picture day and then the teacher made us make ornaments from our school photo for our parents...My Mom insists on putting it up and my job is to find it and hide it as far into the tree as possible so nobody sees it.

Tex - it is so pretty! We have a Red Wings wreath but last year it accidentally stayed up all year so I guess now that's a thing.

We have an artificial tree, no real reason. Easier clean-up I guess. We got a cat a few years ago so we are very careful about which ornaments we put up and where. No dangly ribbons, no feathers, etc.

I've always tried to theme my seasonal decorations but I have so many ornaments I love that don't match! We had two trees last year (and the wings wreath). We have our regular sized tree, and a smaller one for Batty Cake. Batty Cake is a small stuffed animal (who is a bat) that I bought for my husband when he was really sick. He turned it into a Thing, he has a facebook page and his own birthday party and lots of tiny things. So of course he has his own tree, too.

I think this year we'll put ours up before Thanksgiving. It has been a trying year and we missed Halloween decorating so we're going to do the Christmas thing big this year.

We have an artificial tree as well.... Allergies run in our family and real of almost anything can be hard to have. It's theme is "kid friendly" since we have a five year old and an almost 2 year old!

Only tradition we do have is Elf on the shelf... But who doesn't with little kids!?

I've hit a crafting goldmine of inspiration! I have to take my sewing machine for a repair tomorrow and have been getting as much seen in case they have to keep it for a bit.... Luckily I have some non seen items still to make!

My family always put up two trees when I was a kid. Both were real, always noble firs. I like all the space between the nice straight branches, leaving lots of room for ornaments to hang prettily, plus they smell WONDERFUL and just add to that holiday atmosphere! We always had a Kid Tree and a Grown-Up Tree, so when family members came over for opening presents on Christmas Eve, the adults could watch the kids open their presents, and then we could run off and play while they opened theirs in the next room. The Kid Tree was smaller, and grew taller each year along with my brother's height, until it was eventually the same size! The only theme is that my parents put their own ornaments on their tree, and my brother and I put ours on ours. Apparently Mom and Dad realized on their first Christmas together that they had no ornaments, so they bought a quick paint by numbers ornament set that year, and then started collecting lovely handmade ones from bazaars and things the next year, and still give each other at least one new on every year. They didn't want me and my brother to be stuck without ornaments when we forged out on our own, so they've been giving us beautiful ones every year too, so we always had plenty to fill our slowly growing trees! Now I have a gorgeous collection, but I ALWAYS like adding more, and handmade are the best!! XD

I haven't done any crafting this weekend because I've been out of town, but I plan to do a bunch next week! Lots of planning done already! :)

My kids buy each other an ornament every year so they will have ornaments when they have their own trees! It's fun to see how their likes have changed year after year

Do you put up a real tree or artificial? Is your tree themed? When do you put it up?

We get a real tree. We used to cut it down at a tree farm, but it was pretty expensive, they charged per foot. Then we tried a place where it's 25$ flat for any tree you cut, but the trees were more wild, which is fine, but it was an hour away and they didn't look very good. For the last couple years we've gone to this church around the corner that just asks for a $20 or $25 donation and the trees are really nice. My mom got our tree there a few times after my folks divorced and she didn't have much money so she left us in the car while she asked them about trees- she didn't want us to get our hopes up. $15 later we had a large tree and my mom was crying because she was so happy.

No theme, but many of them are from swappers :) There is sort of a rustic quality to some, a couple handfuls of Harry Potter related ones, some that were my grandparents', my parents', etc...

We usually get our tree after the West Chester Old fashioned Christmas parade, which is on Dec. 4 this year. So we'll get it the 5th or 6th. The parade really gets me in the Christmas spirit. We stand near my aunt and uncle's radio station booth where they announce the floats and drink coffee from the shop where our friend works. I particularly love the South/Central American groups that dance through. I'm getting so excited already!

Check In Question Time - this is a 3 parter! :)

We get a real tree and put it up close to Christmas because of cats :-\ as for a theme we just try to stick with specific colours, the ornaments that don't fit in with the colours go into a different room.

I feel like I'm progressing like the turtle in the race with the rabbit. but slow and steady, right?? :D This weekend I've set aside again for more craft time. I have an idea about the stocking, and now have a few 80% finished. I have crafting ADD because I cant just start something and work on it til it's finished. I get distracted with a new idea; start that; then go back to the other; work on it; trade off again.....and on and on! It is definitely getting me in the holiday mood though!

Tex - it is so pretty! We have a Red Wings wreath but last year it accidentally stayed up all year so I guess now that's a thing.

My neighbour would be so proud of you, he just signed this year with the Red Wings, Evgeny Svechnikov. He is still here playing with the QMJHL, he has been hosted at one of our neighbours homes for the past couple of years. My son and his friend went to Evgeny's signing party which they thought was pretty cool.

I feel like I'm making zero progress here! One of these days, I'll be concerned about that. :) But, I'm working on the 12 Day of Christmas swap. I have a plan for this one, so I think it'll come together pretty quickly once I have the time to focus on it! Now if my work life would just slow down a touch, that would be helpful. :)

Check In Question!!!

What is your absolute favorite Christmas, or Winter, song?

Mine is 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' - I love most versions, but my favorite is the one by Dean Martin.

I don't think I have a favorite Christmas or Winter song... I do have a favorite style though... I love singer/songwriter Christmas songs... Something about Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin singing a Christmas carol puts me in the best frame of mind for the holidays! If you are a Pandora listener search for Thanksgiving Day music and for some reason it turns into a Christmas Singer/Songwriters station that is amazing!

I think my favorite song is one called "Ol' Fatso". It's a song about a kid who doesn't believe in Santa Claus and in the song he gets turned around. The last line: If you don't believe in Santa Claus, he won't believe in you.

I went shopping today for some extra goodies for my partner.

I could cry!! I had set aside last weekend to craft and buggered my back, this weekend was definitely going to be set aside to craft, but I came home on Friday to a letter from the tax man telling me I am getting an audit..one my only rental property (which I never intended to rent, but economic collapse meant I had no choice) As if I didn't pay enough income tax -40% to horrify all you from the US...so I spent all day yesterday chasing recipts, bank statements ...and I am not a good organiser..

anyway, it is as done as it can be for this weekend, so come hell or high water, I am making Rolers stocking today...I have a few small items that I purchased and made, but I really need to get cracking on this..despite the fact that all my task lighting in my craft room has died....

the gods are against me, truly.

favourite christmas song.. oh so many

Fairytale of new york, with the pogues and kirsty mc coll, has to be way up there, but I love all the traditional ones too..

and of course this.

Fond memories but no favorite. Growing up when my dad's mom was alive we always had a family reunion Christmas Eve, We rented a park pavilion and about 120 of us showed up. My dad had 7 brothers and sisters so you can image the size of our family it was a tradition that went on for over 30 years and grew in size as my cousins got married and had family's of there own. Grandma had Christmas carol books that were passed out to all and we sang for about an hour before opening gifts and eating. Talk about bringing the roof down!

Too many Christmas/winter songs to even attempt a single one.
I have to listen to the Cajun holiday compilation from ages ago. My copy is on cassette tape (the real reason we cannot get rid of our cassette players) but I'm starting to recreate it electronically.
and I'm a sucker for big band / swing versions of anything. Brian Seltzer's Christmas albums and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's are permanently in the rotation.

I have one item completed, plans/supplies for at least two other things, as well as other stuffers.

However, I have the cutest wrench in the crafting plans. We got a puppy for my husband's birthday and we can't leave her without supervision. So my originally planned crafting time is now is now "no no, don't chew on that. Leave the cat alone. Stop eating the big dog's food" time.

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is my all time favorite. It always brings a tear to my eye.

My Aunt passed away suddenly the other day and I have been a complete mess. Her family is the reason why we started our Christmas breakfast buffet tradition over a decade ago. No matter which direction our lives went, we just wanted to eat lots of food and laugh with each other even if for only one day a year.

I walked all over town today, and happened to wander by AC Moore and picked up a bunch of things for swapping. I'm working on a bunch of things at the moment...it's helping to clear my mind, big time. I have to keep on chugging along.

Thanks "LBABB" I'll be watching for the package! But I won't open it until Christmas! So I'll have something I won't know what it is!

I know most everything I get! My Husband says to get what I want so I get both of our presents wrap them up. He likes to open things slow, but I like to see him open his. Since he doesn't know & I know what's in my presents! We open Stockings first too! It takes us all morning to open presents! But it's more fun to watch him open his presents!

Okay, it's not a song, but I also love listening to Dylan Thomas reading his story, "A Child's Christmas in Wales". My college English professor played it on an old vinyl for us right before winter break and we all laid our heads on our desks and listened. Always makes me feel like a kid.

That is so awesome! I'm so jealous! My husband and I are pretty big Red Wings fans. I'll post a picture of the wreath as soon as I finish this Nyquist ornament I'm working on. It'll be our first handmade one for the wreath.

As far as songs go I really like hearing O Holy Night because it's so beautiful but the Nutcracker has always been a big part of my Christmas, too.

Thank you all for your kind words <3

I've been working on a mish mash of stuff for the swap and for myself, so I have been keeping my hands and brain busy as best I can. It helps. I think I will feel a little better once I travel out to see my family this weekend.

~I finished one swap thing and I am working on a handful of other things simultaneously. The first thing came out so good that I might make more.
~I'm putting together a display for my hand made pinback buttons for a huge wrestling convention my boyfriend is signing at Thanksgiving weekend. I'm super excited about it.
~I'm also putting together a small package for a friend who's brother passed away this summer and won't be visiting for Christmas.

I can't wait for December. I need all the Holly Jolly I can stand =0)

I am progressing slowly with my stocking stuff. I won't be finished until after Thanksgiving.

My family has always done stuffed dates- dates stuffed with walnuts then rolled in sugar, traditional this is the children's job on Christmas morning after the gifts are opened. It is the one dish that makes the holiday, and that everyone loves.

I don't know about favorite, but the most traditional dish my family has is apricot jelled salad, also known affectionately as "Pimento Cheese Salad" because my nephew by marriage the first time he saw it asked, "What is that; Pimento Cheese?"
He's a native southern boy, not experienced with the midwestern Jello Salad traditions.

I have fallen behind on my crafting...it's been a busy couple of weeks. However, things have calmed down a bit and my goal is to finish things up (or at least get a major chunk of it done)

Too many good meals to choose just one and we mix up what desserts we make every year. I like the simple and tasty ambrosia salad though.
I got the stocking 3/4 full of goodies but still want to add some more details to the stocking itself.

My Mom makes stuffed french toast for breakfast. When we were kids, it was the only way to get us to eat breakfast on Christmas when we were too excited over our toys to want to eat.

The stuffing is something along the lines of cream cheese, brown sugar, raisins and carrot shreds and the french toast is actual french bread. This was also what started our breakfast buffet.

The days are rushing by!!! So my favorite song for the holidays is The Gift by Aselin Debison. It is the most beautiful song, but hardly heard on the radio.

I'm stull plugging away. I think this year Im going to ask Santa for more time. ::)

You need to move closer to me. She grew up about 20 minutes away from me so her songs are well played. She also usually participates in a local Christmas concert, but I haven't heard anything for this year.

I've lived with a lot of different family members in a lot of different places so i'm lucky to have had LOTS of holiday food. I don't know if I could pick a favorite. What I really like is that people are excited about food during the holidays so I'm not the only one pouring over cookbooks and youtube and the food network...I do that all year round! I'm on a special diet this year so the only thing I know I'll be able to eat is turkey. I love leftovers, too.

My mom makes the best eggnog! Total deliciousness. I'm a big fan of bourbon brownies for dessert. And my sister-in-law's mom makes the very best Chex Mix. And for Christmas dinner, we always have roasted brussel sprouts with onions that are insanely tasty. :)

That's an odd mix, but they all remind me of Christmas!

A trip to Handcock's tomorrow or Tuesday, I need to get some __________ and attempt to make a __________ hoping I can pull it off without an epic fail!

stocking done, two more largeish items done this weekend, one will definitely not fit into the stocking. I reckon I am about 75% there.

This is a hard one. We don't have a big Christmas dinner, but my mom's family always has "family christmas" beforehand. I'm just a sucker for various cheeses, stuffed mushrooms, and baked goods. We always have french toast or pancakes with bacon and scrapple on Christmas morning.

My Grandmother made an incredible macaroni and cheese. She eventually sent me the recipe. When she was stuck in Hospice care (was temporary), I decided to make one while staying at her house. I brought a portion in for her, and one of the nurses that was involved in a discussion about it. Her reaction to it was "that's my baby!".

It was the first time I had ever made it for her and to have it get that reaction was priceless.

My favorite Christmas food are sugar cookies that my nieces make and a couple different salads. Ham is always yummy too. I am always a sucker for the sweets though- fudge, peanut brittle, cookies-yum. Every Dec 24th my husband I make Toffee from a recipe that his grandma use to make.

I am almost done with my swap package. I just keep debating whether to add more. I am in such a crafting mood lately, it is hard to stop.

In the meantime...here is the checkin question for this week:

What is your favorite holiday movie?

I do love Arthur Christmas a lot, Santa Claus (the first one) and even though it isn't REALLY christmasy...it feels like it to me - Desk Set.

Made my trip to Hancock's just got home it was really weird.....I was the only one in the store except for the two clerks. Fabric was strung all over the cutting tables, they said they had a big rush when the doors opened. I guess my timing was perfect. 2 projects left to make an I think I will be ready to send.

My favorites are the original version of Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story. Although, I love watching Christmas movies. We usually have a movie marathon about a week before Christmas.

Most of my handmade items are done, just a couple more that I had in mind. I also have bought many stocking stuffers, although I don't think some of them will fit in the stocking.

This is a very exciting time for me.

so many favorite movies - Can I call While you were sleeping a Christmas movie? The original Grinch - love love love the soundtrack! Rudolph will always be one of my favorites. I want to go live on the Island of misfit toys and play with each and every one of them. I am a serious Christmas movie addict - I started watching the 2 Hallmark channels non stop a couple weeks ago when they started their Christmas movie marathons even though I prefer the ABC Family 25 days of Christmas marathon. They make you wait till Thanksgiving. Honest, I hate the stores filling up with Christmas long before we hit Thanksgiving but I don't seem to have a problem with the movies starting early.

This isn't a cheap plug or anything because I know the guys who made it :P
There is a documentary about real bearded Santas called "I am Santa Claus" they profile a year in the life of several men that work as Santa. It was on Netflix last year and we watched it at least 5 times. It's so good. (Not family friendly)

"Get Santa" is another newer favorite of mine. I watch strictly all Christmas movies and tv episodes through December...but that one stands out.

I'm in North Carolina for a wrestling trip at the moment...sometime this week I plan on one last craft store trip and maybe I can start to finish up.

My favorite Christmas movie is It's a wonderful life. It's old and it makes me feel warm inside.

;)
Ok, ladies, the short work week and the holiday caught me off guard! I'll be catching up on all the fun in the thread and who has sent this weekend!

In the meantime...here is the checkin question for this week:

What is your favorite holiday movie?

I do love Arthur Christmas a lot, Santa Claus (the first one) and even though it isn't REALLY christmasy...it feels like it to me - Desk Set.

I love Christmas / holiday movies so very much. I think Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life would be at the top. But, I love Holiday Inn and White Christmas to a ridiculous extent, too.

I missed the food check in (family in town - AGAIN and a flurry of constant eating!) so food fave is stuffing!! My brother in law makes it and it's sooooo yummy. Also pumpkin pie. So good!

Next checkin- favorite movie... About to pop it in now while doing dome crafting- It's a Wonderful life. Always loved it, a holiday tradition here. Getting into holiday spirit for sure!

My two favorite movies this time of year are Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas and Elf. I can't get enough of them!!

I am so far behind on crafting. I took on some projects that were seriously labor intensive. I have all of them in progress and I'm waiting on my friend with the power tools!! Then waiting for paint to dry...I got in over my head LOL

Every day this weekend I've said, "Okay, going to get crafting done" and every day this weekend I've gone out for something and somehow hours go by and when I go to bed I've gotten no crafting done. That said, I'm finally getting a few projects worked on. Getting new video games and knowing about sales is highly dangerous if you have anything to get done.

I put finishing touches on 3 items today....they are done! I made something and its in the drying mode. I have one more project to get done this week. It should go together pretty fast if I don't fail. I have never made one of these before so wish me luck! Everything else is ready to have pictures taken and wrapped. It may be the 4th before I mail. I am waiting on something to arrive in the mail, it's a _____ for the _____ that I made. If I was smart, I would have just shipped it straight to my partner, but I did not think about that when I ordered it. Hoping it will come soon and my last project gets done.

My favorite movie is "White Christmas", "It's a Wonderful Life", "Uncle Scrooge" & always" Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer & Frosty the Snowman" I like the older movies. I don't like too many new ones! But they're all fun to watch!
Just about done! Probably be sending on the due date! ☺⛄❄

Favorite Movies are Elf (of course) and A Christmas Carol! I remember watching a Christmas Carol with my Dad every Christmas Eve after everyone else went to bed... as an adult my mom said she would hate it because my dad would have to go wake her up to put out presents from "Santa" after and she almost didn't get them out one year! ha ha!

Finishing up soon... will be sending on the 4th though so I am sure to get everything on my list made!

it's OK, I was having a brain fart, confusing this swap with the 12 days of christmas, that one we start opening on the 16...this does not need to arrive until christmas...phew...

and I am 100% there, but there are one or two little things that I want to add...

a question...are you all wrapping everything in the stocking individually? when we were kids nothing was wrapped, but as adults we do...

My stocking usually has about half the contents wrapped. Usually the easy-to-wrap things (CDs, DVDs, books, and other nice square things) are wrapped, and oddly shaped socks or Christmas ornaments are just stuffed in there. ;P I'm not picky either way!

Yes "LadybugsAnnBumblebees" wrapped everything except the stocking & what look like candy is rubber bands on circle of something it's so cute! I like to wrap everything to, more fun that way!
Getting closer to being done. Adding a couple more things! ⛄❄;D

I'm watching Batman Returns right now as part of my December long marathon =0)

There are so many parts to my stocking...but I'm almost done. It's a lot of *do a bit, then let dry and do a bit more and let that dry*

Will be wrapping up the innards within the next few days.

I made so much progress on my stocking today, and I LOVE how it's turning out! It's gonna be tough to send this one away! It'll be ready to go on time though.

And since I have to keep my eyes on my fingertips while I stitch, I'm enjoying my own festive nails right now too. XD

roler, wow those are great nails!!

I have a couple of movie traditions for Christmas time: With my family, especially my sister and niece "White Christmas" and with my husband, "Love Actually" It was the 2nd movie we saw together and it's "our movie"

I am SOOO far behind...I need to get off the computer and binge craft while the puppy is actually occupied with her teething bone.

Everything jam stuffed into box - check
Duct tape on box so it doesn't open from strain - check
Address written on it twice... "just in case" - check
Box set precariously on boyfriend's laptop so he can't leave without it tomorrow and will thankfully take it to the post office - check.

I am so on time for this swap!
And I have a box on the way! Eeeeeeeh! I'm so excited.

I've been doing overtime due to a death in the department where I work. Person was directly above me so we are trying to get everything organized. That and the holiday last week left me little crafting time and I got behind on my last few items. I need this weekend to get caught up! Sorry, Kmac! We're working on fixing the gallery issue. A member didn't realize that the swap organiser is to begin the gallery and began one. Then when I began the actual gallery as scheduled, they were merged in a wonky way. Sorry for the confusion!

Everyone should be marked accordingly as far as sending and receiving. Sorry I've been absent, I've been trying to check in once or twice a week. I work at a college and it would seem that the entire college has been derailed at once.lol There's a lot of confusion and new leadership, so it's all to be sorted out still.

We do have a lot of late senders, just please keep in touch and be sure to send as soon as you can. :)

I'm so nervous. No matter how much I made, I kept feeling like it wasn't enough.

I am not going to fill my stocking to send....it's an awkward shape, so I think I'm just going to pack it on top. I wasn't going to wrap anything either, but I think if I don't pack it I should at least tissue paper everything hand made.

I hate this part!!!

I wrapped everything but that rubberband lollipop sticking out of the top of the stocking. I know I appreciate my gifts wrapped, so I figured other people do too. Plus, it makes it more of a surprise, not being able to see what you have by just peeking into the stocking.

I received my stocking today. Everything is wrapped except the edibles, and will stay wrapped at least until my partner has received. I can say this much. I am blown away with my stocking. It is a very well made work of art. It even has my name embroidered on it.

And there was a considerable amount of chocolate in there. I had to sample a couple of pieces, and I declare them to be superb.

I sent yesterday! I loved this swap, but boy December sure is a whirlwind around my house and work! Glad it gave me the opportunity to create since I've mostly been working and prepping/shopping for Christmas. Happy holidays, everyone! :D

I hit a big snag on something last night so I am sending tomorrow. It was a lay-on-the-floor-and-ponder-existence moment.

I have had one crazy weekend/week at work. I already warned that I'd be sending late...it's gotten later. But on the plus side, I'm quite pleased with the results.
I should be sending tomorrow.
I have gotten my stocking but I'm not opening until I pack up everything to send to snowyangel. (And it has been a test of will power, let me tell you!)

Ok, turns out that the Swap Gallery cannot be changed, so I had to change the link. Remember to go down a few posts to find the starter post to see your status please. I just updated, so everyone should be up to date.

I have received (a while ago, actually) but have been waiting to post pics until I sent. Since the USPS should have delivered yesterday, I'll be posting my awesome stuff from snowyangel shortly!!

And I was definitely spoiled (so was the cat...she's very happy by the way...)
