Agonizingly on the fence about this one!   :o  Could be super challenging with a lot of research - but fun!

If my daughter was filling this out the lead in picture would be the perfect crafted item to go with her obsession: Macaroni and cheese. Too bad that daughter has to wait another year to be old enough to swap.

This is much harder then I thought it would be. The filled in questionnaire seems to keep growing, it's so hard to explain why you love something so much Or is that just me?

Working on my questionnaire, but it may take a while! I definitely agree with NathanielM93 - trying to get the right idea across is really difficult! (Also finding myself wondering what everyone else's obsessions are ;))

the answers can be as long or as short as you want. the more detail you give the less research your partner has to do.  ;) but yea i could write book on my obsessions and still not get a point across  lol

Oh my yes, I could go on FOREVER about my obsessions, and often have to force myself to be brief!  And what's funny is I was just thinking back on former obsessions of mine - as a teenage girl I would have listed Shakespeare, the American Civil War, and the Beatles, but through my 20's and now in my 30's, I'm all about the Japanese boy bands!!  Am I aging in reverse?! ;P  I'll try to include at least one or two things that aren't j-pop related, but no promises! XD

I'm pretty sure I'll be signing up, but I need to put some serious work into m y questionnaire first. Anyone want to share any of their obsessions? Folklore/ fairy tales/ mythology is probably going to be at the top of mine. After that I'm not sure yet...

I'm definitely having to do some "unpacking". At first I was thinking - I have one obsession, a kpop group - but no, no, there are definitely five now that I've thought about it. There are actually pretty much exactly five. Three groups, a radio host/show (hahaha) and a group of tv shows.

Working on paring down my questionnaire a bit now. Whoever gets me, I swear I don't expect you to watch every one of 2PM's videos... I just... can't help myself.

Turns out I really only have two obsessions, which I define as an odd interest that never really goes away...and makes me happy..

I have a ton of interests, but my obsessions are-

-Pink Lawn Flamingos (1 know!)

-Day of the Dead.

But they are easy to craft I would have thought?...

EDIT I am obsessed, Ive made two new boards already

Funny how people respond to things. You thought "ooh, Day of the Dead!"

My brain  went "pink flamingos? How random! I'm in!" :D ;D

I tried to fill out the questionnaire, and immediately began second-guessing myself. It's not that I don't know what i'm obsessed with. I don't want to subject other people to my stuff. I'm truly weird and a lot of what I like is bound to be truly obnoxious to most people. I'd hate for someone to get stuck with a bunch of themes they can't stand.

RovingAnarchist - I wouldnt worry about being random or strange, I think that's what will be fun about this swap - we've no idea what we're going to get! It'll be a challenge and a crafting boost to have to work with new ideas and themes.

OK, sent in my Q!!  I was waiting until another slot opened up because I was saving my last one for the stocking swap, but I've sent out two packages already so hopefully I'll have some more slots open soon anyway!

I managed to include a variety of topics, and while I'd definitely MOST appreciate stuff from my more obscure obsessions, I included some broader/more accessible ones in case the first two were too hard. :)  And uhh, I wrote a LOT.  'Cause it's so hard not to!

I would have thought that once the organiser starts doing partnering, she could ask your potential partners if they are happy to craft with adult themes. I myself would be happy to.

And yes, I think the big variety of weird and quirky things is what will make this fun! :)

I'd have no problem crafting with an adult theme either.  :) And I guess if your partner hated it, there'd be 4 others to choose from.

Also, whoever's obsession is DOTD (I know there's a few of us here!  ;) ;D), there are some AWESOME new DOTD fabrics at Joann's!  (They had been carrying the same old patterns for awhile.)

I sent in my sign up info! My boyfriend and I decided last minute that would we go on a weekend getaway first thing tomorrow morning so if I didn't get it done now I knew I would probably miss out.
I am also willing to craft for adult themes! In fact, the more adult the more fun.
What obsessions did everyone put down? I listed skulls and anatomy, general creepiness, musical theatre, neil gaiman and food. Very wide range I think.

I listed two j-pop groups (WEAVER and V6 this time; I could easily have chosen five groups for this but decided to go for a variety for the sake of my poor partner), my plush eel photo blog, my pet degus, and board games.  I'm debating changing the last one to the new Ronja the Robber's Daughter Ghibli anime series, but since I don't think that's available outside of Japan yet I'll probably just leave it after all. :)

i'm still working on my questionnaire. It's only been a week :P! I lumped all my music into one category of the 5. Otherwise, the whole list would be bands.

I haven't swapped in awhile, and I had to go to Michael's for yarn, and they had some stuff on sale for 80% off...and yeah...I know I have no idea what my partner will like but I couldn't help myself.  ::) I bought a pile of stuff so there's bound to be something in there that my partner will like!   ;D

Also, whoever's obsession is DOTD (I know there's a few of us here!  ;) ;D), there are some AWESOME new DOTD fabrics at Joann's!  (They had been carrying the same old patterns for awhile.)

I have just been ranting on this subject in the 13 days of halloween thread, we have nothing like Joannes or Michaels here, and I am so jealous, I would love to get my hands on those DOTD fabrics, neither company ship internationally....arrgh

Ooh, yay for more Ghibli love!  Once Ronja is out worldwide I'm totally hoping for some swap stuff from it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanzoku_no_Musume_R%C5%8Dnya

I don't particularly want adult themed stuff for myself because a lot of different people come in my house and see my stuff, but I'm looking forward to seeing what other people get!  Could be really fun!

And wow, we will have such an eclectic swap! Especially once the gallery comes out I hope to learn a lot about a bunch of little niche things I didn't know before! :)

I am waiting for a package I mailed to arrive so I can send in my questioner. I must say my obsessions are very different from all of yours :) harry potter, Dr who (for my daughter I know nothing), Olympics, friends tv show ( added for a 5th) and I seriously can't remember the last one I am going to put. Oh ya Disney Bounding!! I love dressing disney as much as I can. :) collecting accessories for dressing disney is hard.
I am clueless to DOTD..... guess I will be researching a lot cause there a lot I have never heard of. :)

I'm going to the Creativ Fest here in Toronto next weekend. One of the companies that always has a booth carries a pretty broad range of DOTD themed quilting fabric. I could grab you a couple quarters or one of their variety packs if you want..

Alternately, I found the exact same fabric online here.. http://www.lowpricefabric.com/c-657-day-of-the-dead-folklorico.aspx (http://www.lowpricefabric.com/c-657-day-of-the-dead-folklorico.aspx) (I know it's the same stuff because I have some of those exact patterns!)

Hmm, there are a few things really. It started with the "poor unfortunate souls" song. She is a very interesting character, and her voice actor is amazing. She is very cunning. I find it interesting that she doesn't really use violence. Rather, she is like a devilish whisper in your ear. She promises great things to mermen and mermaids, but they never fulfill the contract and therefore they are in her grasp.
Also she's just fabulous.
Ariel, "but without my voice, how can I..."
Ursula,"You'll have your looks, your pretty face and don't underestimate the importance of BODY Language. HAH The men up there don't like a lot of flabber."

I'm still deliberating over my questionnaire. I had a little panic thinking it was due today! I'm so glad I have another week.

And to anyone who thinks their obsessions are "too weird" or "not accessible enough" - I am totally looking forward to delving into your weird subcultures and corners of the internet. Don't shy away from the weird! (Or the adult!)

(Definitely seeing a bunch of things I'd be so excited to craft for!)

I left off my obsession which I try not to indulge because it is depressing, gross, or at least sad; the dead people on Mount Everest.   :P :'(   If you climb Mount Everest, you have a one in ten chance of dying, and folks who die are often just left up there, because it costs like $30,000 to bring your body down.  There are approximately 200 dead bodies on Mount Everest. Some are used as landmarks, such as "Green Boots."  If you get tired and have to rest, they will just leave you to die. Don't climb Mount Everest, ok?

I remember researching (okay, okay... indulging my morbid curiousities...) Mt Everest deaths a few years ago. Fascinating but definitely a little depressing.

Maybe I should have restrained myself a little listing my obsessions for this swap. Let's just say a few of my pinterest boards for this swap are not for the faint of heart.

I'm still deliberating over my questionnaire. I had a little panic thinking it was due today! I'm so glad I have another week.

Oh god for some reason I thought sign ups were closing much earlier too. I am not sure I can bear to wait another week to get crafting! I am so amped up for this swap, I can't wait to find out who my partner is and learn all about their obsessions. I love talking to people about their passions, no matter how obscure or weird it is it is just so great seeing someone get excited about something they love.

I'm the same way! I love listening to people talk enthusiastically about what they love!

I am really squeamish so I hope I don't personally get a partner with a gory interest but I think it's cool that there are so many people with such a broad range of obsessions, and it sounds like there are plenty of craftsters stronger hearted than me! XD

The Mount Everest thing reminds me of the little girl in a Connie Willis book, I think "Passage," who was obsessed with the Hindenburg and other disasters.

I am sure Mandit will take things like that into consideration when partnering people up, but I think all of us who listed more adult themes also put down much cleaner obsessions as well. The last thing I would ever want is to make my partner feel grossed out or uncomfortable while crafting for me!!

I had never heard of that book but am looking into it now and it looks fascinating, I might try find it at the library tomorrow as I have banned myself from buying new books until I have gotten through the fifty or so unread books currently on my shelf!

Edit; really should have just put BOOKS!! as one of my obsessions, I can't walk past a bookshop without emptying my bank account!

Yeah that's why I put a couple more mainstream things on my list too in addition to my jpop fandoms, just in case my partner is a bit taken aback by my obsessive fangirling, so they have other options, lol! It sounds like everyone's been offering a good variety!

Passage is actually probably my least favorite Connie Willis book, not because it's bad, but because her others are so good! "To Say Nothing of the Dog" is one of my all time favorite books, and I heartily recommend it, especially if you happen to like Dorothy Sayers, PG Wodehouse, or time travel. ;p. Dooms Day Book could probably have been shorter but for people with morbid obsessions, it's a fascinating look at the Black Plague (which I've actually done a 20 page research paper on before, so apparently there are exceptions to my squeamishness, lol!)

I'm surprised I haven't heard of her books before, sounds like they would be right up my alley. I am definitely going to hunt her down at the library, thank you so much for the recommendation!

I forgot to mention in the questionnaire, but there will be check in questions once a week. I'll try to make them interesting.  :P

It is helpful knowing who is squeamish and who is not, I will take that into account when choosing partners.  ;)

For those getting impatient (I know I am!) go stalk some boards of people in this swap.  ;D

Oh yes good idea! Here is a link to my pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/oweyouapin/ (https://www.pinterest.com/oweyouapin/)!  For this swap the relevant boards would probably be musicals, fandom crafts, i like it, creepy, guts and glory (please be warned that those last two do have images that are not for the squeamish! please view at your own discretion!)

Off to see who I can find to stalk, I especially want to find Ludi's 'spooky' inspiration, I feel that would be right up my alley! (my dark, misty alley...)

What a coincidence! I'm in London next weekend and Matilda was my first choice of musical to go and see! Tickets were just too expensive this close though so we had to pick something else but hopefully I'll make it some other time.

Musical theater is a great love of mine too!  I didn't put it specifically on my list, but it's sorta kinda there; #2 on my list is the j-pop group V6, and I totally fell for my favorite member when I first saw him in the Japanese production of The Boy from Oz.  I have seen many very good musicals, but I have still never seen an actor who wows me as much in every way - his singing, dancing, acting, and overall stage presence are the most amazing thing, and I think it's a crime that he's not in a musical production AT ALL TIMES, lol.  I wonder if people might go for another round of the I Love Musicals swap at some point; that one was really fun!! (puzzled-penguin; the Les Mis hoop you made me is hanging up to my right and the Phantom and Eponine magnets are decorating the inside of my front door!)

And books... yikes, if I'd started adding books to my list I'd never have stopped!  Makes me want to have just a book swap next time too... Eeeek, I think I'm addicted to swapping lately, lol!  Actually I almost certainly would have put Connie Willis and To Say Nothing of the Dog on my questionnaire if I were listing books!

I actually hadn't heard of the Matilda musical; I'm assuming Roald Dahl?  I read all his kids' books when I was young and LOVED them; I'm sure I'd adore a musical of it too! Running off to google that now...
EDIT: Just watched a bit of it on youtube and it looks fantastic!!  Maybe if I'm lucky it'll be in Seattle sometime when I'm visiting family; that seems a bit more likely than Osaka.

roler - I would definitely get involved in another round of the musical swap, I LOVED that one, the crafts I got from edelC were incredible and the gallery was one of my favourites ever!
I would also be interested in a book swap. In fact, I think I NEED a book swap.

I too may be mildly addicted to swapping right now.... I am not working at the moment (I call it funemployed...) so all I am doing is crafting. Tonight I have just started something based on one of my obsessions listed for this swap (a Neil Gaiman quote) so maybe as well as joining I may fake join it in the craft along too!

I don't want to rain on your parade (or maybe this might make you feel better?) They have cheap student seats for Matilda in London -we were there in May- the seats aren't great, but only £10.- My daughter went, she is musicals obsessed, loved the music for Matilda, but she really didn't enjoy the performance. She said that it was really lacklusture, there were a whole bunch of school groups in the theatre, who were noisy and distracted. She was very disappointed, I'm only telling you this in case you regret spending a shitload of money on theatre tickets. London theatre tickets have gone mad...approaching the insanity that is Broadway tickets.

What a coincidence! I'm in London next weekend and Matilda was my first choice of musical to go and see! Tickets were just too expensive this close though so we had to pick something else but hopefully I'll make it some other time.

Haha, that actually does make me feel a bit better!  ;D

We've got tickets for Cats instead now, which I'm really looking forward to.

And I'd totally second (third?) another round of the musicals swap at some point. I love my canvas Roler made me :)

I'm still trying to finish my questionnaire! Trying to decide whether to fill the entire list with my crafty obsessions, or put them all in one category made things difficult. If I said 1) crafting/DIY then I had a terrible time trying to come up with another 4! So I cheated. I asked my best friend to list my obsessions. That simplified things greatly.  ;D

Bwa ha ha haaaa, you are talking to someone who literally does not own a bed or dresser because she spends all her money on 3+ concert tickets a month!  Unleashing the floodgates!! ;P  Depends though, do you tend to like really pop stuff? Ballads? Folk? Rock? Hard rock? NEVER MIND I'LL COVER ALL THE BASES!  Hahaha, give me a bit; I'll put together a post of several different starting points.  XD

J-pop sampler post!!   Sorry this got so long, still just scratching the surface!  There's a reason I call j-pop my obsession!!

First, a piano rock band, and #1 on my questionnaire, WEAVER! They do a lot of ballads and mid-tempo songs, very pretty and lyrical (and I'm sorta kinda friends with them!)
Music Video for "Bokura no Eien" (Our Eternity): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giAj_iHUwdQ
And a live version of "Kanseito" (Observation Tower): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKXUwOpwyNI (I love their smiles in the last few seconds of this).

I also love a whole bunch of bands produced by entertainment giant Johnny's Entertainment, a company that makes a bunch of auditioned boy bands who sing, dance, act, appear on variety shows, and basically do EVERYTHING.  They're about as cheesy as they come but also hugely talented, full of personality, and just plain FUN.
Here's a 2008 TV appearance of V6 (#2 on my questionnaire): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ-FqyemgS0&index=5&list=FLvRCm--DLEBYRd6IJKQVzOg
Other Johnny's groups I love are KanJani8, Johnny's WEST, Arashi, TOKIO, and the KinKi Kids, but unfortunately Johnny's is pretty good at taking their stuff down off of youtube pretty efficiently.  I managed to find one of my favorite Arashi songs with rather obtrusively placed Spanish subtitles though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-z_yWUak60

Prefer rock to straight-up pop? NICO Touches the Walls has a great sound; here's "Sudden Death Game": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqfw2Lzvz1Q  and "The Bungy": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jl_iXA6koo   A little harder rock? Try ONE OK ROCK (pronounced "One o'clock"). Here's "Liar": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAHvDE9FFAE   and "Answer is Near": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlmhKXA77ro   MUCC does a lot of really hard rock, like their recent "Ender Ender": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNam4x2eGeY  but they also cover a huge range of genres.

plane does a lot of mellower stuff; here's "Hanabi" (Fireworks): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CszLoVobUAs   And flumpool also does a lot of nice ballads; here's "Hana ni Nare" (Become a Flower): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zyF9MwqZOE

How about some female artists? Angela Aki's ballad "Tegami" (Letter) has made me cry more than once: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erGCAu_hFqM   Utada Hikaru was really popular when I first came to Japan; here's "Traveling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tfc8w6A-f9U  Yuki from Judy and Mary is awesome; here's "JOY": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj5RSMOct2E One of Japan's most famous pop divas, Amura Namie, in collaboration with a couple of other really awesome women, in "Wonder Woman": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itB-dAienyU

Gah, this is already way too long, so I'll just list some more stuff: MONGOL800 (Okinawan punk rock); L'Arc~en~Ciel, Gackt, Janne d'Arc, Acid Black Cherry, TM Revolution, jealkb ("visual kei"); Road of Major, The Mass Missile (rock), Shounan no Kaze (reggae/ska), Morning Musume (girl pop), Koda Kumi (another pop diva).

And now I'll go hide and pretend I didn't just gush all over all of you!!

I forgot how adorable j-pop was :p I had a close friend with a J-pop obsession so I was obsessed by proxy :p Do you guys have that? There are several things that I know a lot about simply because a friend is obsessed and I love listening to them talk about their passions. And then everytime I see something related to their obsessions I think of them :)

I went through roler's j-pop list yesterday. So much good stuff! I see where the obsession comes from. It's cool to find music from genres you already like and hear what other parts of the world make of it. A couple of my metalhead friends pride themselves on being able to tell where a band is from based on their sound- "Oh, that has the Norwegian drum style," or "that has the Indonesian guitar tone." The amazing thing is how often they're right! It's madness, I tell you!

(Curse you, musicals people! I read your posts, and my brain started singing. Now I can't get Do You Hear the People Sing out of my head! ;D ;D ;D)

Curse you RovingAnarchist... now I have it stuck in my head too. It makes a nice change from Drink with me, which I've been singing to myself on repeat for the past two days. I'm such a sucker for Les Mis.

Tickets to Matilda went on sale today, my BF got us great seats. I'm super excited cause all the other shows playing during the next few months don't interest me at all!!

Yay, I'm glad you guys enjoyed the list! I know my gushing can be off-putting so I try to rein it back most of the time but in a thread specifically about obsessions I figured I could let loose a little. ;P  If anyone wants to know more about any of those groups/genres, etc, go ahead and let me know and I will more than gladly PM you with more info, lol!

Yes, NathanielM93, I know exactly what you mean about obsessions by proxy!  I have several!  My own knowledge about the subjects is patchy but I still know more than the average person just from hearing about them from my friends, and every time I see a reference I think of the friends too!  It's fun. :)

moriarT - I'm not EXACTLY "funemployed" right now (I love the word!), but I'm a freelance translator, and the last two months or so have been rather lean on commissions, so I've also been crafting up a storm to keep myself busy.  I'm actually really grateful for the swaps for giving me something to work on with deadlines to keep me on task!

Okay. Finally stopped obsessing about the questionnaire and sent it in. (Now that would have been a real stumper to put on the list! What are you obsessed with? Putting the best and most accurate answers on Craftster swap questionnaires! Craft that, I dare you!  ;D)

Some lucky person is going to be a tad frustrated with me, I can tell. The list:

1. Crafting/DIY
2. Hot rods and custom trucks
3. moonshine, and the distilling of it
4. Stand up comedy
5. a laundry list of music, mostly pretty heavy stuff.

Really enjoying all the J-pop.  My husband and I watch anime almost exclusively, and most shows have pop tunes during opening and closing credits and sometimes during an episode.  We always watch the shows in Japanese; don't like the dubbed voices usually.

RovingAnarchist - It's not necessarily a bad thing to keep working on your questionnaire so long, though; I tend to err in the opposite direction - I get so excited about a swap I want to join that I turn in my questionnaire right away, and then spend the rest of the sign-up period thinking of all the details I left off of it, and forcing myself not to inundate the poor swap organizer with additions and modifications, since I'm sure that just makes everything more difficult to organize!  Fortunately I've just resisted the urge and figure I can communicate directly with my partner once we're assigned, but waiting a little longer on my questionnaires probably wouldn't hurt either!

Ludi - Yay, glad you like it!  Yeah, I definitely prefer things in their original language.  I liked my anime subtitled when I watched it in the states, and when I go to see Hollywood movies here, I also go for the subtitled versions, because I want to hear the real actors and not their Japanese dubbed voices.  It can be difficult sometimes though; for example I recently saw "Inside Out" (called "Inside Head" here), and could only see it in English at the late-late showing, because it's classified as a kids' movie, and it's assumed that kids don't want to read their movies, so almost all of the showings were dubbed only.  The funny thing is, I always end up automatically reading the subtitles anyway, even when the actors on screen are speaking in English; I guess if they're there, I can't help but read them!  It's also probably partly because I really hope to subtitle movies myself one day, but that will require a LOT more experience and highly placed connections. ;P

And wheee, can't wait for partners!  Should be fun looking up my partner's interests!  I've been sick all week so haven't been crafting, but it's good to know I'll have stuff lined up to work on once I'm feeling up to it again!

roler - I do think my friend told me that, but I promptly forgot. I was totally entranced with him, not gonna lie - such a great performer! And the crowd was pretty terrifying - it was so hard to keep standing with everyone pushing, and I was immediately separated from my friend... found her as I was fighting my way to the side with a girl we'd met beforehand. We had just as much fun from the side, and with room to put our stuff down, take our shoes off, and sit on the floor ;D

I've already got ideas for my crafting! And I have a whole day of nothing today to dig through my stash and see what I've got to start with.

I know from experience that the more detailed the questionnaire, the better it is.  One, your partner has more to choose from to craft, and two, you have a better chance of receiving something you want and can use.

I already went supply shopping, have a list of items I want to make, and will start crafting once I'm done typing this!   ;D

I hope that's interesting in the interesting way, and not in the oh-god-what kind of way ;D

I went to Joann's looking for stuff for the other swap I'm in and ended up getting stuff for this one. I think I might actually start on the medium this evening!

Interesting as in "Where has this been in my life?" sort of way. Orange Caramel look and sound great; I LOVE their wild and colorful clothing! Your other obsessions are interesting, too, but I really like Orange Caramel. If I keep listening to their music, I might have a new obsession :)

I hope I'll get to see a movie I haven't seen yet, yes, embarrassed to admit I have never seen "The Crow" - but it is on my partner's list so I will try to watch it.  I'm certainly not going to expect my partner to watch all the Ernest Thesiger movies she could possibly watch!  ;)  And I don't expect her to read the Gormenghast novels, which are long and verbose and rather difficult.  :P

I am already so completely in love with this swap!

I just spent nearly an entire 5 hour train journey devouring galleries and blog posts about prayer flags! I'd never heard of them before but it's fascinating and definitely shot right to the top of my 'things to make for me' list.

Check in question:

If you could have witnessed anything in the course of history what would it be? why?

That's a hard question. I can't pick one, it would be the Big Bang, Dinosaurs or the early viking times. Big Bang because it must have been awesome, dinosaurs because .. well... DINOSAURS. ANd I've always been really fascinated with norse history and mythology.

My partner has an awesome questionaire and a brilliant pinterest...life is sooooo much easier when someone has a million pins...then the problem is what to make, how to narrow it down..

I am heading out now to pick up an essential supply

just to keep you all busy, this is some music from one of my partners obsessions...very cool... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDEAIpiUTes one of them has a hurdy gurdy...I am fascinated by those instruments...

EdelC, that link is awesome!  What a fun and cheerful performance!  And I don't think I'd ever seen a hurdy gurdy in action before; that is fascinating!!  The bobbing and bouncing audience makes me happy too. :)

Yesterday I had fun pinning silly pictures of my pets to my board for this swap on pinterest, because I figured that was easier than making my partner navigate through my weirdly disjointed instagram if she picks that theme for anything.  I had a lot of fun looking through her pinterest and am still in the TOO MANY IDEAS!! stage, but am working on narrowing it down!

As for the part of history I'd like to have witnessed... I agree with the choice of dinosaurs; that would of course be awesome!  But I'd also have loved to have seen some medieval or Renaissance Europe... probably Renaissance England, because I spent so much time studying the literature of that period and also used to the be the co-chair of my college Renaissance Faire.  It'd be so awesome just to see the everyday sights of the day, not even necessarily a specific event... Although, ooh, an original Shakespeare performance at the Globe... yeah, I choose that!!

Another vote for dinosaurs! :) Or, the Library of Alexandria before its decline and destruction. I love visiting old libraries, so that would probably set my little bookish heart aflutter.

I'm going to stick with the theme of this swap and say the event in history I would want to see would be the first London performance of the play "Saint Joan" in 1924, co-starring that actor I'm obsessed with, Ernest Thesiger, in the role written for him by George Bernard Shaw, the Dauphin.  Here's a blurry old photo of Ernest in the play (he's the guy in the middle):

roler your degus are SO CUTE I love looking at the photos of them! I think I will need to follow you on instagram! And I adore the fact that they are named after the powerpuff girls!

As far as visiting somewhere from history. Probably ancient greece, I adore the mythology and it seems like such an interesting time.
Or, this is so sappy and dumb, but I would like to go back in time to before my mothers brother passed away. He died when he was about my age (and well before I was born) but from the stories I have heard and the photos I have seen he seemed like such an awesome guy, and I am really sad I never got the chance to meet him.  :-\

I've put some thought into this before, and come to the conclusion that if I had to stay me, I couldn't pick another time period to be in, for I am a mouthy feminist and would get myself killed in any other historical period. Well, I might not have been killed in the Victorian era, merely institutionalized for life.

My answer is less exciting than a lot of yours, cause it's pretty recent history. I would have loved to have been there when we went to the moon. Such an exciting time for science and space exploration. Although I'm pretty stoked to be around as we discover more and more about mars.

Get to work on time? I'd use it to rob a bank, or buy half of Microsoft in 1976!

I should never be allowed to have a TARDIS anyway. I'd be running around messing up history and cultures. "Oh, wife beating is a perfectly acceptable social practice? Well, have you noticed that you're expected to cook all the idiot's meals? Here, dump this poison into his food..."

Actually, that was a common practice in some areas. In the South, ladies would poison their abusive or otherwise no-good husbands using oleander, sometimes steeping it in teas, other times putting it into their foods.

Every time I do a swap, I take what I made to work and show it to my coworkers before I send, and do the same thing when I receive! They're always impressed with what I've received... what I send, well, sometimes the response is more "what IS that?"  :)  Oops, back to the drawing board...

I was proud of my swap efforts before, but I'm on disability now and I have all day every day to craft if I want to.  So I was able to put a lot of "finishing touches" on things that I didn't have time to before when I was employed.  So I'm thrilled that I'm able to do that now.  I think it's like icing on a cake.  I can't wait for the gallery for this swap!  It's going to be so interesting!

I probably won't be able to start crafting for this swap until next week, though.  I'm finally over an awful cold I had for over a week but now I have to catch up on all the work and chores I let slide while I was too exhausted to deal with them!  (And then... go to a WEAVER concert this weekend ;P)

Check in question is a tough one. There are a lot of different time periods I would love to have witnessed. The tops would have to be Italian Renaissance, ancient Egypt, or the Vikings era. And like others have said: dinosaurs! I just love the aspect of all the changes brought on during the Renaissance. The art, the music, and I have to admit I love assassins creed. Haha. I love the Sphinx and would have loved seeing all those beautiful creations before being so aged. And of course Vikings and dinosaurs are just awesome in general. Haha. However, I would not enjoy being attacked by either. Haha.

There was quite a scare this weekend when I was informed a close friend battling cancer had passed on, however thankfully I was misinformed and although she's very sick she is doing better. I will be getting started later this week after having a chance to work through a few things.

I haven't started crafting yet either, although I hope to tomorrow!!  It's been a very busy week, and this week might end up getting pretty busy too; I've just been approached by two new clients who want me to work on some new games, and I need to figure out how much I have time for!  I'll definitely make sure to schedule some crafting time though, for the sake of my sanity as well as the swap deadlines!

I just went to a WEAVER show on Saturday, and it did NOT help to lessen my obsession any. ;P  I love those guys so much!! (...that I'm going all the way to Nagoya to see them again on Nov. 7th...)

A foreign language; either Spanish (used a lot around here) or French (needed for reading literature).

One item complete- it's amazing what you can get done on a subway ride...

A thing I'd like to master immediately? Um, that's hard- there are so many things..

Social skills (I have none, which may be related to my ADHD. Usually what comes out when I open my mouth is as much of a surprise to me as anyone else!)
Money management
Time management (oh, I a full time job, am taking a couple of college courses, am down to the crunch building sets and props for my theatre company, and my living room is strewn with bits of dissected furniture that needs restoring. I know, I'll join a swap!) [Admittedly, I do tend to let everything else slide so I can concentrate on the swap stuff. My Craftster reputation is very important to me- y'all are the only people I've found who really "get it!" I'd hate to end up being disliked for any reason.]

Oddly, I have no desire to master any craft. Once a skill is mastered, it's boring because there's nothing left to learn.

I've been working at a snail's pace for a long time on the art of positive thinking and a positive selfimage, so if I could master that I would be sooo pleased.

I've been away from home for a few days on a trip so I'm also in the 'not started' group. I've been travelling a lot though so I've done my stalking and planning. I'll be ready to starting crafting as soon as I get home.

Although a musical instrument or knitting are really tempting, if I could master anything it'd be languages. I love to travel but my language skills are only just passable. I'd love to be fluent in a few so I don't feel like an uncultured swine.

I'm gonna second this as skills I would absolutely love to master immediately. I'm looking forward to my days off this week, crafting is one thing that slowly but surely helps with the positive thinking aspect. Also wouldn't totally hate mastering the violin overnight, I find it to be a beautiful instrument.

Oooh, much as I LOVE languages, I also love the learning process, so I don't think I'd skip to master level on that one... but I think I will choose one of the other obvious answers and go with a musical instrument!  I'm not even particularly picky about which one, as long as it's one that could be used in a band.  And maybe not a brass or wind instrument, because I'd like my lungs to be free for possible vocals, either lead or back-up. XD  I play a bit of piano, but haven't practiced in so many years that honestly I've lost almost all my skill in that department, and have taken a few guitar lessons, but mostly my only musical skill is singing; for some reason I really have trouble disciplining myself to practice instruments long enough to get really good at them, so that's one I'd love to master overnight!

I've been working at a snail's pace for a long time on the art of positive thinking and a positive selfimage, so if I could master that I would be sooo pleased.

the thing about that  learning how to be more positive and kinder to yourself...it is a lifetimes work. I am not sure there is a point that you reach when it all comes together. As they say in Ireland 'Every day's a school day' in other words, you have to continually learn how to do those things. Now that can sound a bit depressing, the idea that there is not a point that you can reach, when you are finished learning..but it's really not, it also means that the whole thing is just a process. You can stop worrying that you are not 'there' yet..and just enjoy every little success along the way.

Success is anything that makes you feel better in that moment, that is kind and good to yourself.

and the other thing that we mostly don't realise is that all those other people around you that seem to have it all together, they are mostly just pretending and are as insecure and unconfident as we are.

for me on the Mastering.. being kinder to myself might be a good start, but also P_E_S_T I am so with you on the mastering weight loss, I would really like to master liking exercise...those two things may be linked..lol

but apart from that Piano, Guitar, and it would be nice to have a babelfish in my ear so i could understand languages..

I may be the only person on the planet who doesn't want to improve their self image. When I'm feeling good about myself, I don't work at anything to improve myself. (It's not that I hate myself or anything that extreme, I just continually feel that I could be better. Therefore, I work at it.)

I agree with you on this :) That said, I struggle with some mental illness that makes it very difficult to work on the positivity. I guess what I really need to master is setting more me-appropriate goals. (sorry if this is way off topic)

I'm working on the first item, it's fun to do. I have managed to forget an important element of the small at home so I'll be doing that next week :)

If you could have witnessed anything in the course of history what would it be? why?

This is such a hard question, but seeing other people answer the Library of Alexandria - yeah. That's a lifelong time-travel dream, right there :)

Also up there: seeing the Beatles perform back in the Cavern days (or really at all, but in the Cavern days we could have been friends... right?), dinosaurs, Alexander the Great (another long-time fascination), going back to see the Phillies' '08 world series win in person rather than on TV.

Check in Question #2:

If you could master anything immediately what would it be?

First thing that comes to mind is speaking Korean.... After being into k-pop for nearly six years, I can read the alphabet but usually don't know what it means, other than names and key phrases (I can get around pretty well in a Korean restaurant, plus the phrases "all day (haru jongil)" and "from head to toe (moributo balkkeutggaji)" show up in a ton of songs, so how could I not know them? And some pretty basic stuff, like honorifics and numbers and small talk and "I love you". ... And "watermelon" and "apple". And probably some other unhelpful stuff.)

I'm fascinated by languages and linguistics in general :D Currently working on learning Spanish and Irish Gaelic, relearning French and German. I went to a school where French and German were required classes 1st-8th grade, then you could choose French, German or Spanish for high school. I did 12 years of French. I remember shamefully little 8 years later.

I keep playing with what I have for nowheresound instead of finishing it. I can't help it because it's so cute. But I must finish it so I can start on the other items.

After seeing this and your other comment, I am screaming very, very quietly to myself.

I like to post my projects on twitter/instagram/sometimes facebook. Gotta direct them towards the people who will shower me with the most love for them ;D

I've been playing with the pattern for the medium for two weeks while I gather materials.... The problem is that I have such a distinct vision for it that I'm having trouble finding things that fit. I'm really excited about it, though!!! I think it'll be really cool when it's done.

The small is sitting, finished, on my craft table. The problem with that one is that I had two ways I wanted to make it, and now I want to try the other way. I have the time, so maybe I will, and then just decide which one I like better.

Finally answering this weeks check in question. If I could master anything I feel like the obvious choice ought to be mastering all cooking techniques, because then I would be so much better at my job, and could get all the dream jobs I am not qualified enough to even apply for. Either that or, orchestra conducting. I have no desire to learn any instruments, and I am pretty sure I am tone deaf and reading music is like a foreign language to me. BUT I am obsessed with conductors??? To the point that it is dangerous for me to sit anywhere in a theatre where I have a view of the orchestra pit, because I just become entranced by the conductor and forget to watch the show.

And in crafting news, after a few false starts and a lot of frustration and stress (I am queen of the world of stress right now, I am even stressing about how stressed I am, and stressing about something that is supposed to be fun and relaxing for me has not been a very nice feeling!) I am finally getting started on my main item tonight. It isn't what I had initially planned, and won't be quite as awesome, but I think (hope!) roler will like it!

Oh, moriarT, I'm so sorry you're stressed, especially about the swap!  I agree; these should be fun and stress-busting, not adding to worries!  I'm really quite sure I'll love whatever you come up with!

Meanwhile, I am also turning into a tightly wound ball of stress right now, as things are not progressing as smoothly as possible re: my visa renewal, and I may have to spend a lot of time this week working on that paperwork (which is my biggest, crippling phobia, no joke), so I'm worried that I MIGHT get a little behind on this swap.... but the plans for the items have really taken shape in my mind and I think I have nearly all the supplies I need now!

I've finished one item, and have a clear plan for the second one. Unfortunately, Halloween wiped out the stock at my local craft store. There were literally two pieces of what I needed left, in horrid colours. So I'm trying to think of a different way to do it. I definitely don't have time to embroider the whole thing...

Stress breeds creative thinking.

I've lost a supply I need to finish the cute item! It's probably in the car somewhere because I took the supply with me when we went on a trip this weekend. Which means that it might be up under the back seat. If it's not there, I've lost the supply and will have to get a new one. Which is fine because we were heading to the craft store for something else I needed for an unrelated project :)

Currently house-sitting in my hometown (I normally live only about 30 minutes away, but it's nice being right here) and taking a break from everything to work on NaNoWriMo and hang out downtown.... The problem is, I'm so excited about the stuff I'm making for this swap it's kinda hard to turn off the want to work on it! Might go out ~material sourcing~ (thrift shopping) to make up for it, since I still need a few things for the one project.

Ah, thrift shopping is always fun! :D I've found a few awesome craft supplies while thrift shopping. I've bought purses and reused the zippers from them and bought jeans that were cheap due to being in rough shape and used those for patching other pants.
A few weeks ago, I found a Singer serger for $10 that I couldn't convince my boyfriend to buy! It was so cheap because it needed fixed and he said "I'm not buying it because it might take $100 to fix and we don't have that kind of money right now." I just could NOT persuade him to buy it and have it fixed later to be my Christmas present. He said if he did that, his family would think he was a cheapskate. :P

I know but he was convinced it wouldn't be cheap to fix it. I told him even if it was $100 or a little more to fix that it was a lot cheaper than buying a new one. But he doesn't know anything about sewing machines and that sort of thing so I really can't blame him. He'll learn though :)

As for the swap, I made another thing but I messed up on it so I'm going to try again. I think I'll keep the idea but try a different craft.

You know, as an adult, there are days you DON'T want to get the mail, b/c there's bills and such in it...

You know, as a Craftster swap participant, there are days you WANT the mail like a dog wants a bone!

Where is FreakieGeekie's package??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My medium turned into more of an extremely large. I'm still not too sure how I feel about it, it's always that way when I try something new. I hope my partner likes it. Now onto my small item. If everything goes well I'll be sending tomorrow or Monday.

I'm finished with my two items and trying to think up a little extra item because the other extra is a flop. I'm hoping to send out by Friday. I just hope the weather isn't nasty when I go to send :P I'm tired of the rain.

Since we were talking about visiting lost cities for one of the other Monday questions I thought this might interest some of us. It'll definitely be on my bucket list of it goes ahead!

I'm not very good with remembering jokes... I'll have to think about this one.  :-\

My favorite joke isn't one you tell: you write "how to keep an idiot entertained: see reverse" on a piece of paper with the same thing written on the opposite side. Someone who's not quite paying attention (or is maybe a bit slow on the uptake) will keep flipping it over. It's really fun to do to drunk people! Lol

My package from LadybugsAndBumblebees says it's "in transit". It left the facility in Texas Sunday! Today is Tuesday so why isn't it there yet?! :P

I have FINALLY come up with an extra! I like including extras because sometimes I worry about the items not quite fitting their requirements. I'm paranoid that way.

Sadly I also can't think of any good jokes right now; I'm more of a funny anecdote person myself.

I'm also running a little bit behind on my crafting for this one because I just got back from a four day trip to Nagoya and Tokyo, during which I saw two concerts and got to hang out with members of four bands.  I am seriously still giggling and giddy over how incredibly nice some of my favorite musicians were to me!!  But I am super energized by such a fantastic trip and ready to get back to work and crafting!!

You know what?  I'm expecting a swap package from another swap and it was due the same day yours was.  It's still not here and the tracking says it's still in Jersey.  I'm wondering if that is the issue with yours?  I have the tracking number and will go to the PO on Saturday if you still haven't gotten it.  I'm so sorry. :-[

Yup, good food or a quick trip to one of the bars where I'm greeted as a friend definitely helps, or just looking in my ticket file and reminding myself of the next upcoming concert!!  Also, Netflix. ;P

I missed last week's check in question because I don't have internet at home right now and I don't know any good jokes. Well,  I know one: knock knock?
As for my stress relief, either curl up with cheese, chocolate and my boyfriend. Or, put on a nice dress, get a good book and take myself out to a nice restaurant,  eat good food and just r e l a x

My partner sent, said it would be to me by Wednesday, and since it wasn't here yesterday, I'm guessing my partner meant next Wednesday!   ;D

I'm going to have to edit that above comment:  I just took a look at the tracking and it says that the package was held up but is now at the local post office.  I live right down the street from the local PO so lets hope the tracking gets updated as out for delivery.

Is the mail REALLY getting this messed up this early due to Xmas?  (This is not the first package in this swap that has had the same issues.)
