Title: Amigurumi Animal Friends
Post by: GeneralJinjur on August 20, 2015 11:06:09 PM
Here are some crocheted animals that I have made in the past.

I made this squid for my mother using the  amigurumi bobtail squid (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=380268.0) pattern provided by vangoghcafe right here on Craftster.

I made this squirrel for a friend. I freehanded it. I love how roly poly it is.

The limbs and ears are bobbles. I used cotton yarn for the body and the same cotton yarn plus an acrylic with a touch of mohair for the tail, which came out very soft and fluffy.

Fantastic how wriggly the tentacles of the squid turned out!

This is a wonderful pattern for a beginner like me and more anatomically accurate than most of the patterns available.  Hats off to the creator!

My spouse studies cephalopods and i can't help but offer a couple scientific corrections to the terminology used.  The 'mantle' in scientific terms is actually what is called the body in this pattern.  The two protrusions from either side of the body are 'fins'.  The eight shorter tentacles are actually 'arms' and the two longer tentacles are accurately labeled as tentacles.  It would be nice if someone could add a funnel to the lower body and then the pattern could be scientifically perfect. A squid only has one funnel. It is on the lower part of the body 90 degrees to the fins. Thanks in advance. This is such a wonderful pattern!

RivahDog cool, thanks for the terminology. The original pattern is posted here (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=380268.0). I am a bit confused about the "funnel" part you mentioned so I will look that up...
