Title: Steampunked insects
Post by: sheepBlue on January 28, 2015 04:44:12 PM
I made these bugs with a mixture of poly clay bases, found metal junk, and then giving the bodies a shine with some pearl ex powders. The wings were made from tissue paper modge podged onto a wire framing made with wire. It has a fantastic translucent quality to it.

How big are these? They are so amazing! I like the use of blue and the shimmer, it sets off the findings so well. Love them.

Roughly 3 inches long I'd guess. It would easily fit in the palm of your hand...though the one with the pen nib butt is about half that size.

Very cool mixed media insects.  I think these would also make lovely pins/brooches.

I've seen similar pieces, on DeviantArt, from time-to-time.  Wouldn't it be amazing if there were real clockwork insects flying and scampering about in the wild?
