MommyTheMaid - I know how you feel about trying to finish things up!  Hope it all goes smoothly and you join us!

rscowtown - I know, there are so many good swaps going on!  I'll hope you finish one of yours in time!  ;)  If not, feel free to lurk around and if you fake-join, toss us a link to your project in our gallery!

Ludi - Take your time, no hurry, make sure you remember all your favorites!  I tend to rush through Qs and I always leave out something...

crazyda79 - Empty spot?!  How can that be!  You should join IMMEDIATELY to rid yourself of that pesky thing.  ;)

whenindoubtsew - Welcome to the swap!

I'll join when I can sit down and really take my time w/the questionnaire.  I want to research cryptids, to which ones I really want.  Did you know the Okapi is considered a cryptid?  And, so is the Platypus!  I know the Okapi will be on my list.  Would anybody like to receive an Okapi plushie?  I would LOVE to make one!

Welcome to the swap, gotgrey!  Okapis are cool, but platypus are EPIC.  :D  That's the kind of thing I want to remember...  so, please keep talking cryptid and help me fill out my questionnaire!

And for anyone who submits a questionnaire between now and Sunday, I probably won't be able to get you entered until Sunday - I'll have access to Craftster on my phone, but I really am better at the feedback form on my computer.  Tonight I have a zombie costume to make and tomorrow is the zombie walk and game night, so...  I'd better get crackin'!

(or maybe the zombie costume will go unbelievably smoothly and I'll have oodles of time?  hey, I can dream...)

I am about 95% convinced I'm going to join...but my list will take some time.  My research books are at home and I am not, so I can't just look to see what I want, I'll have to do some searching.  But with Smed going all zombie for the weekend, that gives me some time to think ;D  Now I wish I could binge watch Destination Truth (US Netflix has it, as does Hulu I think..);D

I'm going to add Aye Aye's and African Wild Dogs to my list...

Along with Okapi, these are all real animals. I'm a little confused. Are they animals that were once thought to not exist? Manatees were mistaken for mermaids and narwhal were call unicorns in early sailing days. I thought that cryptids were creatures like Big Foot, Nessie, chupacabra, etc. I'm just trying to understand what all fits into this category. (I love Aye Ayes!)

Yes, they were once thought to be cryptids.  Except for the sect of Wild African Dogs that I'm speaking of.  The sect of Wild African Dogs I'm speaking of, it's existence hasn't been proven or disproven yet.  Tasmanian Tigers are considered an extinct cryptid.  Aye Aye's and other members of the lemur family, are actually considered to be ghosts by native people.

Lemurs aren't a mythical creature and were never considered as such. Here is a snipit about them that might prove helpful to anyone confused.

'Few animals spark human imaginations as much as the lemur. Among the Malagasy people of the species’ native Madagascar, lemurs are thought to contain the souls of their ancestors. These elusive creatures populate Roman mythology, and even the word lemur is mystical in nature: it derives from the Latin word lemures, which means “ghosts” or “nocturnal spirits.”'

While it is considered mystical it is not mythical so not a cryptid. If you want to read more, and learn a bit about the aye aye as well here is a link to some good info. http://animals.sandiegozoo.org/zoonooz/souls-spirits-and-prosimians-legendary-lemurs

I wont get to join this swap this time around, I just like to read the conversations :P but I hope you all have tons of fun!^^

Yes, I knew that native people believe the spirits of their ancestors live in lemurs.  It's not hard to believe, just looking at those eyes, and listening to their calls.   ;D  I was saying the sect of Wild African Dogs I was talking about is considered a cryptid.  Because there is no proof as to whether or not they exist.

I missed a lot of discussion being undead, it appears!  I'm back from the undead, a little sleepy, but I did win second place funniest zombie.  Wheeee!

I rather wondered about the definition of "cryptid", I think it's a bit flexible (does Sharktapus or Piranaconda or Pteracuda count?  No?  Hmmmm, maybe a monster movie swap is in order!  Who doesn't need Godzilla or Mothra in their lives?!).

It's really Ludi's swap, though (I'm just the pencil-pusher!) so I'm going with those definitions, though if your partner wants to throw in something Lemur-related, well, that's rather the nature of swaps!

Welcome officially to the swap, Ludi!

So far my list is pretty standard fare - Jackalopes/Wolpertingers, Yeti (but the "cute" variant!), Nessie, and the Kraken.  I'm still one short...

To all of you on the fence... do it!  You don't want to miss out on your chance and weep bitter, bitter tears as you stare longingly at the (sure to be) amazing gallery!

The way I think about cryptids and what fits in the definition is as follows...

If anyone one any where in the world still might believe the cryptid in question is real, than it's possible it might be a cryptid.  And since some folks think Bigfoot(s) might be inter dimensional beings and or aliens from outer space it leaves room for interpretation when it comes to other cryptids.  So, when it comes to baku and perhaps some of the other cryptids who are claimed to have paranormal powers, it is possible that though they look like a recognized animal, they may indeed be a separate species.   Part of the reason I love cryptozoology is it is all still open to interpretation and not a closed minded science ;D  Long live odd animals!!

I believe a lot of cryptids are real critters - new animals are being discovered all the time, sometimes quite large ones, like a possible new species of whale off Florida:  http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/blogs/50-whales-may-be-a-new-and-very-endangered-species

If you're thinking about sending your Q, well, you really should.  It's going to be a fun swap!  :D

I am still thinking about this! My Little Visitor Swap package arrived, so I'm caught up on that, but I have the TM Patch Swap to tackle (I have 5 or 6 patches I need to make). I'm hoping to get that in the mail in the next 2 weeks, which would leave me at least two weeks for this one... so, I'm definitely still thinking about it...

I'm especially fascinated by animals like the okapi (and even mountain gorillas, I think) that were once thought not to exist but were then proven to be real...

ETA: I just filled out a questionnaire, but I'm going to hold off on sending it in until I see how much progress I make on my TM patches this week. And, because, instead of being on Craftster checking out swaps, I should be grading papers, I need to make sure I get myself caught up on that, too...

I know what it's like to be overloaded on swaps, but I hope you can join!

I also watch River Monsters, where he tackles legends to see if there's a real animal at the heart of it - because some cryptids are probably loosely based on something real that got blown out of proportion, if not straight up being a creature we just don't know about (I mean, the giant squid really is the Kraken, and it exists, but we're just now learning about it because the ocean is really, really big...).

This weekend will be the make or break point! So, I'll know by Sunday night :)

And, that's what keeps me wondering about cryptids- the fact that some parts of the world are still unexplored, especially the oceans!

Ooh, that reminds me. At the Fort Worth zoo many years ago there was a HUGE gnarly, ugly fish (perhaps 6-8' long) that they had in a very murky tank. I got the creeps seeing that thing, barely, through the dirty water. It would turn and head towards you with its wrinkled, contorted face and it would make me shudder. I could never stay down there long.

Watsonc7, you should join us! It's going to be loads of fun!

MommyTheMaid, welcome! I'll get you officially signed up when I get home! So glad you're joining us!

Missmuffincake, while I'd think Totoro would fit more into the movie monsters/creatures, I admit I don't know much about it (other than there is a great Totoro crochet pattern out there I've made before).  But, if your partner loves the idea and wants to run with it, that's up to them! It's close enough to count for the swap, I'd say, but I'm pretty liberal with the theme (after all, swaps are just about making people happy and giving them something they like, so...).  And especially if it gets you to sign up, heck yeah! ;)

Oooooh, fairies! I didn't think of that, but they definitely fall into the humanoid cryptid category, like Yeti...

I have a feeling there will be some additions to some Qs once partners are assigned with all these ideas! :D

Lol, you`re too funny. I was just saying to another member that since I have been heavily swapping for most of this year I am running out of space for things! Which was a problem to begin with. It is tempting though... I will think about it.  ;)

There is an 8 foot squid pillow that uses 2 yards of fabric that I am in love with.  I would totally stuff him when he got here to save on shipping.  Same for a platypus. :)

I could totally make a squid.  I made 2 huge squid for Suereal.  I don't know that I would make an 8 foot squid, but, I would be up for making a really big one!

I love reading about all of the different cryptids! I'm still on the fence about joining and my fingers are itching to copy and paste my completed questionnaire into a PM to Smeddley! But, I need to demonstrate some restraint (hopefully, it's only temporary!).

LOL! :) I'm looking at my calendar... This coming weekend is my annual "Craft Weekend" in New Hampshire, and I have 1 project I must do, and then I can work on my TM patches (and hopefully finish them). Our end of term grades are due on Nov. 5th (2 days after the term ends), so I have the 6th to the 18th to craft. We have Veterans Day off from school, which is after report cards come out, so I will actually have the day free to craft. I also have 2 Sundays free... But, with only 3 definite open days (and possibly an evening or two... although that looks doubtful), I'm worried that I won't be able to do the swap justice... Although, I do work best under pressure...

It's so hard not to really be ... pushy and try to get you to join, craftADDchick!  We would so love to have you in the swap, but I understand being overwhelmed and busy.  Still, hope you can!

jennythor, hope things do work out!  I mean, since you already have the questionnaire started...  ;)

artsycandice, you know you wanna!  You know, you CAN always request things for other people, if you know someone who would like a cryptid!  I know what you mean, though, my house is getting pretty full!  But I just can't stop.

Welcome to the swap, suereal!  :D

I have a bunch of rubber ducks, and a friend of mine said that I should stick them upside-down to my bathroom ceiling.  I have to admit that I really want to do that, as soon as I figure out the best glue for it... it'd be a great way to display them that is completely out of the way!

I love this idea! You could velcro them on and change them around every once in a while...

And, I think, even though I have gotten almost nothing accomplished on today's to-do list ("take a shower" and "eat pancakes" comprise half of the items I have checked off), that I will just go ahead and submit to the peer pressure my questionnaire! I have 3 free nights this week, so I can get a lot of my list done (I have to stick a session of cooking in there, but I could do some of it tonight). So...off to cut and paste!

The duck ceiling sounds great!  If you find the right glue let me know please.  I have 3 shoe boxes full of glow in the dark plastic shapes.  I want to cover a large door frame with them, but I don't like the poster putty peaking through the plastic and I'm not a fan of double stick glue.  My ceiling is that old soft panels stuff, so I am just planning on using wire when I get around to that part ;D

YEAH cADDc!  I'm glad I twisted your arm could be encouraging.  You just need to give up that sleeping stuff and you'll be fine ;D

I'm actually hoping to step outside of my comfort zone (no crochet, and no stenciled t-shirts ;D ) with this swap, crafting-wise, so now I can't wait to see who my partner is so I can start coming up with ideas.

But for now, I'll go and toss in some laundry and alphabetize some assignments... and maybe do some dishes... I can think about this swap while I'm washing dishes...

I would rock the hell out of a kracken circle skirt.   If my stencling was better I would do pink tentacles on black.

Yay, another swapper!  I'll get you added tonight when I get home.

I think there are going to be a lot of "ooooh, by the way I forgot..." messages after partners go out!  I'm trying to resist mock-pairing up people, because then I get flustered and mess up when more people join.  But I wanna! Some of you guys just have perfect matches based on the wants/makes and what I know about you... :)

I've also pretty much planned what I could make for everyone...

Okay, new plan, you're all just swapping with me!  ;)

You know, gotgrey is right! It's actually purple and there's stripes and polka-dots and all manner of magnificent things!  Truly fabulous over here!  But, if you'd rather do laundry, we can't force you...

(Surely you have an old halloween costume that's still clean, or a formal or bridesmaid's dress or *something* to tide you over!  I often joke that one day I'll be forced to turn up to work in 1. my wedding dress 2. a giant bunny costume or 3. a bellydance costume... laundry is not precisely high on my list of priorities...)

I'll go NOW and try to finish up the troll costume I promised I'd make for my kid. Start on a bug and vacuum. Then I have 0,002% of the list done and can re-evaluate the situation :D

Last night, while driving back to my hometown, I started thinking about a cryptid skirt... and completely missed the exit for the gas station (I did stop somewhere else, so all was good). On the way home, I wanted to stop at the same gas station to get a snack (they have a Dunkin' Donuts), but I started thinking about the skirt again, and I missed the exit again...

I'm thinking that I most definitely need to design and sew a cryptid skirt... Well, since I designed most of it in my head last night, I really just need to sew one... I have to look up a technique first, but then I think I could do it!

We will DEFINITELY need to see that!  I've been thinking a lot about a Kraken poodle skirt... I've made a poodle skirt and lots of circle skirts, and I've stenciled, it's just putting the two together.  And finding the right Kraken image...

Sorry you missed your exit, though, because... mmmmm.... Dunkin' Donuts.... mmmmmm....

(I really had thought of this already when I put that questions about skirt size on the Q, I've never seen it on one before, but I'd hoped I could work the idea in...)

I might have to play around with a couple of techniques, because I want to do 2 very specific things, and I'm not sure if one of them will work... I'll be toting my sewing machine along with me this weekend, so I might have to bring some scrap fabric to experiment with... I can see it so clearly in my head!

I have a vision of what I want, too, but I'm pretty sure mine isn't attainable by me!  My ideas and plans always seem to outstrip my talent...

Good luck!  Take notes and let us know what works out and how and whatnot!  I love learning new techniques and stuff!

The smallspine spookfish! Okay, maybe it's not a cryptid, but it's pretty cool anyway :)

Only two more hours, I'm thinking this is probably what we'll end up with, but if anyone wants to jump in at the last minute, I will make room, I promise!

I'll do my best with the allergy situation, and try to match up what people would like and what they can make, but please check your questionnaires when you get them to make sure I don't goof!

Partners have been assigned, and listed on the front page.  Everyone should have gotten their partner's Q in a PM, except gotgrey because I'll be honest and admit I haven't actually filled mine out yet.  But you'll get it in a minute!  :)

I admit to doing some pre-pairing, and I know how nerve-wracking it is waiting!  If no one *AHEM* signs up at the last minute, it's pretty easy, especially with a small swap (half the matches were made on shipping and allergies!).

(Though actually you did even things up and you might notice one thing about you and your partner that you have in common that I also liked pairing up!)

Ludi, I'm glad you're happy - I really did think you two were a good match based on your Qs!

I had to sit on my fingers (at least for once all this extra weight comes in handy :P) to not sign up. But I found out I have to make another half a dozen things within couple of weeks, was what confirmed me I shouldn't sign up this time, so I can do my best at bug swap and finish all the gifts.

But I will keep my eyes on Your wonderful creations and hoping to do this next time :)
Have fun, You all! ;)

I was on the edge of signing up and the organizer made me feel extra wanted but I just couldn't swing it right now.  There are some other swaps I NEED to be in so I think I'm gonna fake swap for this one.  Honestly, there was only one cryptid I could think of that I really wanted anyway.  So I'm gonna make me something of the Thylacine ;)

Haha, I was just going to keep working until the deadline, and you'll get whatever I get finished! I have a feeling it might be a smidgen over the requirement...

Some of it might be an odd color, though, my hubby is out shopping and, I think to offset the fact that he's buying *himself* something expensive on *my* birthday, offered to pick up some yarn I need. We'll... see what I end up with...  O.o

I have an idea I am just itching to try! I touched base with artsycandice to see if she had a preference for the final form of the item. I printed out a bunch of resources to get me going, but I can't start until my grades are posted on Wednesday.

And, I just had a brilliant (in my mind, at least) idea pop into my head for my other item. There was something I wanted to do, but didn't know how I could pull it off, but now, I think I might be able to make it happen! It involves a wee bit of deception... :D

Oh, man, I feel you on the allergies.  They have been horrible this year for everyone I know...  I've had more bad days than good, but hopefully the recent turn in the weather will help.  That and, since I made some decent progress last night, I might spend part of today cleaning and de-allergening the house.  I think there's enough dog hair in the corners to make a few dogs...

Good news is that I'm pretty happy so far with my work, but the big test, the putting it all together, is still to come...

There's a lady I work with who has a habit of bringing random stuff to work and leaving it for people to take... it's the type of stuff you find at a thrift store. Every once in a while, I find something I can upcycle. Yesterday, I found something that I think will work waaaaaaaay better than what I picked up at the actual thrift store the other day. I am currently procrastinating on finishing grades (due tomorrow at midnight!), but after this, I can get back to crafting for swaps. I am going to a conference this weekend, and I'm trying to decide what to bring as a project to work on while listening to the speakers... I don't know if this swap will get the vote because I might need to concentrate too much...

I'm slowly working away, a horrible cold has slowed me down somewhat - don't worry, gotgrey, I'll spray the package with disinfectant before I send it!  :D

No worries Smeddley!  I hope you feel better soon.  I've been battling w/sinus issues.  Nothing new to me this time of year.  No disinfectant needed.  :)  I will most likely be shipping this coming Wed.  I have to ship another package for another swap that day, so I might just bring this one along w/me and ship it too.  Gotta work w/when I have access to my car.  Really hate sharing a car.  It's so restricting!

Why do things always end up so much bigger than I think they will?! Had to undo and redo a big bit of my main thing, and I'm still not sure about it... We'll see!

I received but I don't see the gallery.

I'm done with my thing but can't decide on how to add a last doo-dad. There's another thing I want to finish before I send.

I _____ the ____ last night and am almost finished.  I need to purchase one last thing at the craft store to finish the medium and then I should be ready to send.

I am interviewing for a new job today (so hoping i get it!) so I want to make sure I get my crafting pretty well caught up in case the first few weeks kicks my butt :D

Send-Outs are on Tuesday!  (because Mondays at the post office here are crazy busy and I very much dislike going to the post office on Mondays, and yes it's all about me).  Be sure to let me and your partner know if you're going to be late!

Happy last-minute crafting to those of us still busily working away!  And Yay to all of you who are done/sent!  :D

Today is send-outs, please let me know if you aren't going to be able to send - almost everyone has checked in, I've updated the list on the first post of the gallery.

Um, except my name... I sent today, but I'm too lazy to go back and change it for just that... :S
