This is not a traditional gallery, we will be posting pics of what we make, not of what we receive.  Please claim a spot.

Everyone please make one post that will be your personal gallery post that you will keep adding your pics to as you make blocks for your partners.  After everyone has a gallery, then we can start chatting about what is posted, just so we have all of the galleries at the beginning, k? I'll let you know when all the galleries are ready.   Chat away!

Here is the list for me to check off of who has created their gallery post:

My gallery for groups 3 and 5!  Some of the photos aren't the best in terms of color - they look darker and have a warmer tone than in reality.

GROUP 3
Melladh - deep northern blues and greens

Pieced Star - my first attempt at paper piecing - it was an experience!

sloth003 - Paintbox
I love doing these!  Matching up the fabrics is so much fun  :D

donniesgirl - Wee Scotty
I think I'm going to put a couple of these on the ends of a runner with the Christmas Scotty fabric you'll see farther down  :D

EnginerdLisa - Garden Fence in greens

GROUP 5
carolmb - pinwheels and stars in brights

donniesgirl - raw edge circles in red and green
These were so much fun to match up and so quick and easy!  Extras for our wonderful organizer who also stepped into our group when we lost a member early on   ;D

How cool that I had a Christmas Scotty!

Uncut group and group after going into the blender  ;)

kbrison - stars in blue and yellow
These are MUCH brighter in real life!

alwaysinmyroom - Party Hats in red, white and blue
The first one of these I sewed came out small - I think I'm going to put it into a runner with the two more solid Modern Strings Carolmb sent me.

103 different fabrics plus solid white and only one duplicate because I goofed and used the same yellow in two of kbrison's blocks.

Once I got past my woeful feeling of inadequacy this was a blast!

I went with a folded, appliqued kabuto (samurai helmet).  My husband had me fold our napkins (120 of them!) into kabuto for our wedding reception, so when I was thinking of the theme, it was the first thing that popped into my head.

I think all of the blocks are looking good!  carolmb--I really am so glad you posted your Celtic Twisted Block...now I have an idea for what is meant by mixing the colors!

I am also loving the Garden Fence blocks!

Sparkledust--such pretty colors and you did a fine job on those blocks!

I love the star that is being used for FoxyMama--those autumn colors are just gorgeous!

Love seeing everyone's fabric stash...

I love my garden fence blocks!  It is driving me crazy that I can't start on this swap yet.  Shipping my fabulous zipper pouch tomorrow, then starting on my fat quarter swap, then this one when that is done.

I had a sick day on the couch  :(.
But i got four sets cut.  See!? :)

And started jotting down patterns and pulling fabrics for all the quilters choice blocks. Man I find that so hard. There's SOOO many blocks to choose from.
Guess I should just be happy I'm not making any wonky houses this round. :)

What a shame to have to shop.   ;D

I finished the three Celtic twists - I hope to have those in the gallery tonight.  And I'm almost done with my last green garden fence block.  Then I'll probably work on melladh's blues & greens, but I'm with you sloth.  I have a hard time picking for "quilter's choice."  But I did pick one block out...maybe two.

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery
Post by: kbrison on August 01, 2013 01:32:41 PM
For quilter's choice blocks, I usually choose blocks I've thought about making for a quilt of my own. If I hate making the block, I know not to buy fabric for that particular pattern. On the other hand, if I really like the way a block comes together, my wallet is in for a real workout!

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery

Okay more blocks in the works, I have just about gotten all of one group done, yet I am also trying to get those in that group that I also have in other groups done...so long story short it makes for a big group LOL.

Am giong all star crossed at the moment, trying to make sure I do not mix up colors choices and blocks

well and wonderment

Well I obviously need to learn the fine art of photography. My Celtic twists are up and it looks like a lot of yellow, but in real life a lot of the yellow is orange-r. Ah well. I also put the last of my garden fences up too.

And now I'm going to take a break for a couple days to clean house and give my friend's daughter a sewing lesson.

For quilter's choice blocks, I usually choose blocks I've thought about making for a quilt of my own.

I do the same but I'm learning that I rely on color and pattern quite a bit to pull a quilt together.  I guess that's why I've never done a sampler. I need to let my inner unstructuredness run free. :D

nice job on the celtic twist donniesgirl!

carolmb--did you make six of them?

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery
Post by: donniesgirl on August 02, 2013 07:03:23 AM
Yes carolmb and danynn are in two different groups together.  I tried to minimize the amount of overlap as well as people who were in Melladh & EllaRain's groups last round (since they're doing the same blocks), but it was inevitable.

Carol & Always, and you'll both be getting 6 blocks each from me. If I've counted correctly, that's 56 scraps plus backgrounds that I'll be using for Carol and 12 reds and blues plus backgrounds for Always. That's going to be a big help in my destashing project. For some ridiculous reason which I totally fail to understand, dh thinks I may have too much fabric. Silly man! There's no such thing as too much fabric. Is there?!?!?!

Around here a statement like that would earn hubs a trip to the basement to sleep a while until he came to his senses...

(Tho he is an enabler, he blew my. Budget in 4 of 6 quilt shops last week. And i didnt let him go in the other 5)

Lol, my scrape bin is one of those under the bed type storage things. I have been tossing odds and ends in there since I started quilting, 2012. I spent 9 mths on that first quilt. Lol. I have gotten a little faster

No basement but we do have a double car garage with the old recliner in it. But in dh's defense, he's also an enabler. Any time we go to Tulsa he always asks if I need to go to JoAnns for fabric or craft supplies. Gotta love a man who's that well-trained!  ;D He really doesn't object to my buying fabric, just that it worries him a little that I buy faster than I use. My father was an obsessive hoarder and dh doesn't want that to happen to me. If you saw my craft room you'd understand his concern. Besides which, Sloth, he sees you and some of our fellow crafters as part of the problem. Recognize any of these fabrics? You should since many of them came from your stash. Others are from the last quilt block swap round and the last round of the sweat shoppe swap. If it's at least a 3/4" scrap, I throw it in my Crumb quilt scrap box. If I never buy another piece of fabric and I live for another 20 years, I'd still have a hard time using up all my stash (and that doesn't take into consideration the time I would need to use up my paper stash).

I did the Hunter's Star, Folded Star and EQ 2146.

The first two have links on my gallery the last I used my Electric Quilt program.

Ya most welcome! I enjoyed doing them.

The only one that caused me a bit of stress was the Folded Star. For some reason my brain would not keep the colors in the right order, So I had to rip out over and over. I even had them laid out 1, 2, and 3. But my brain would look at the printout and try to go by the colors on it and I would mess up. I walked a way from it a few times LOL.

The other two look harder then they are.

If anyone is interested I can put together a Tutorial on the "2146" Star after I finish my groups.

Oh my hubby is the same, he doesn't understand the quilting especially, he says 'so you take some fabric apart and put it back together again?'

oh well, he always says he likes me sewing as it makes me happy so even if he doesn't quite understand he always takes an interest :)

I posted my first batch that are already in the gallery today and have started on EllaRain's. Soon to be uploaded but I'm coming in a 1/4 inch short or so, so may need to re-do those with a very tight seam allowance.

I'm loving all the colours this round, I can't wait to move so I have some space to get a stash like some of you have, those scrappy blocks are incredible.

kbrison--I have never seen a scrappy block like that! I love all the shapes, colors, fabrics...wowie!

It's called a Crumbs quilt. Everything is fair game: selvedges can be included, leftover dog ears from cutting Flying Geese blocks, off-grain cuts, trimmings from straightening edges or cutting out clothing, excess binding strips, paper piecing gone wrong, reverse side of fabrics. If you can sew a 1/4" seam on all sides and still have something showing, it's good. For traditional quilters the problem is breaking down the mental walls, not letting yourself use very large pieces, and putting it together all wonky. I'm making 5 1/2" sections this time, then piecing them together to make 10" finished blocks. I can't tell you how many times I've patched together enough fabric to make a 5 1/2 " section only to decide that the fabric pieces were too large. Enter my handy dandy rotary cutter and ruler. Next thing you know I have two or three much smaller pieces to work with. Even my dds, who both are craftster members, think I'm crazy to cut up a seemingly finished block to make it smaller.  ;D

Has anyone ever done a paper pieced block from Quilters Cache?  I have my eye on one and I can't get the templates to print correctly.  In fact, all three printed out different sized 1" test squares.   ???  Is there a secret?

The hunters star I did for Kbrison was paper piece from there. I didn't have any problem. Was the first I had tried from there

Hmm.  Ok I just reprinted the templates and the test squares came out correctly this time.  Strange...

This block has a lot of pieces so we will see how it goes.   ;D  I'm getting more ambitious.  I talked myself out of a feathered star earlier...At least I've talked myself out of it for now.   ::)

I now have two of 24 blocks completed, plus one Garden Fence block that came out a tad too small.

I treated myself to a new and nicer sewing machine this past winter and I'm having some trouble figuring out exactly how to get the right seams.  The Sweet Sixteen and Prom dresses I did were no problem.  Trying to get 1/4 inch seams - not so much.   :(

I little trick that worked before I got that little notion called the prefect scant 1/4 as a gift. Was as follows.

I took a ruler that has the 1/8 and 1/4 inch marks on it and I put a dot right between 1/4 and 1/8 inch that was just shy of being at the 1/4 stitch on my mech. (drop your needle down on the dot, place your tape on your mech as your guide.) That way my sewing would be just under a 1/4. I placed tape on my mech as my guide and that is where I would line up my seams.

When I got the little notion to do pretty much the say it came out just a hair different then what I had set myself. LOL

hope that is helpful.

Not even LOL  I will have group 4 done and sent next week. There are a few in the other groups that I am working on in bits. I have your three picked, two I am  drafting myself, one with my Electric Quilt program and one I am resizing with my critcut. The third I am resizing a paper piece block. So those will take some time to work out the kinks.

Picking the last set of star blocks will take time as well.

And the wonky blocks and the way my brain works are always the hardest for me. I want to work "inside the box" and with wonky you just can't so I have to push myself to throw the box out LOL

Thanks Alwaysinmyroom!

They only problem is my brain runs faster than my hands and I find I have to read over and over what I type and still end up going back and fixing errors!

Or my mind changes thought right in the middle and my fingers don't. I really dislike when that happens. Shot I know what I am trying to say, but other people never seem to understand LOL.

Good thing I never wanted to be a teacher...Couldn't you just see it..WOW talk about messed up young'in

(addition) just in case your wondering I am the same when I am talking too! People start laughing all the time and I have to stop and replay what I was talking about before I understand why. It will be my mind went off on a different topic right in the middle and just stitched the two together. I don't find it odd but people sure do

The teapot fabric is just too cute!  Lovely stars, Sparkledust!

I just love the gold and blue stars you made for kbrison, carolmb!  I am not that great at making stars but I am going to conquer them! ;D

I also love the stars, carol...isn't it funny how different they look just by switching the center color?  I pulled out a few fabrics out of my own stash to start thinking of the borders and backing...

I hope my fabrics get here today so I can get going! ;D

Carol, give yourself permission to play with your Cricut. It's ok to indulge ourselves occasionally. Hints for cutting fabric: apply paper-backed Wonder-Under or Heat-n-Bond to the back of your fabric before cutting,  cut with fabric side up, use painter's tape around the edge to hold your fabric to the cutting mat to prevent the fabric from shifting, increase pressure, don't try cutting anything super-detailed or small until you get all the functions set and working properly for your fabric, use a slower cutting speed. Good luck!

Just uploaded EllaRains, this swap is going too fast!  However, should be done in time to move :)

One question, Do you double backstitch each start and stop you do when piecing together?

My quilt is going to be turned into a baby quilt, I just found out my cousin is expecting in January, even for a less experienced quilter, that should be enough time assuming I don't do too much Xmas crafting!

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery
Post by: alwaysinmyroom on August 05, 2013 01:12:19 PM
I do not doublestitch... but if I think the piece is going to be handled a lot, I will use a tighter stitch at the beginning and end...I think it is better to run the threads long, piece, then cut the threads after the block is done...

Congrats to your cousin!  You can do it!

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery
Post by: alwaysinmyroom on August 05, 2013 01:35:15 PM
I think the reason for not doublestitching is that quilting will usually lock down the back...in clothing and other things, there is no backing or quilting..yeah..it is a bit of a brain change!

I like the polkadots - they are very "happy."  :)  Funny I'm not the only one with seam allowance issues on that block...

I'm working on two paper pieced blocks right now & that isn't my specialty so hopefully I'll be done with them in time for the weekend.   ;D  Assuming they turn out.

So depending on my usps shouldn't be toooo long LOL.

I didn't get any sewing done today. My daughter and I finished up clothing shopping for her junior year. My other daughter is getting a case of the jitters about heading off to college in a few weeks.

Good luck on the block! It's definitely going to be pretty.

Am bummed over the Party Hat (star) block I'm making for Always. It came together beautifully, wasn't too small, but instead was too large. No problem, right? Just trim it down to 12 1/2", except if I do that I'll be cutting off the star points. Aargh! Don't know whether I'm going to rip out the seams and re-sew it or just put it aside and cut out a new set of block pieces.

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery
Post by: carolmb on August 07, 2013 03:42:07 AM
kbrison: On the party hat block You really have to have a scant seam I had very little trim on the blocks if any at all. If you have your seam set under it will come out too small, have it set over and it will come out too big.

Okay call me slow. But I just had a thought and tested it and I was right! My perfect seam guide is right at 1/16 shy of being a normal 1/4 seam setting.

if you have a ruler that has the 1/16 lines, line up and set your seams to that and  you will have a perfect scant seam!

Another tip that has helped me lots and a lady that does the sewing for the local dry cleaners told me this one. Don't watch the edge of your foot. Put a guide at the front of your sewing mech base and line up before your foot and let the mech do it from the foot on. My seams have done so much better since I stopped trying to watch the foot and lined up before it got to the foot.

carol--1. I am so excited to receive my blocks  2. what a gorgeous block....I am going to have to check out that pattern for myself!

ohhh man it is catchy!!!!!
yes the unfinish size would be 12.5 and when joined in a quilt the finished blocks would become 12.

I thought I was the only one having one of "those days" today

I hope the brain starts to working for you always

Yes that's right - "finished" means all sewn into the quilt.  So if it's just the block, since the outer seams aren't sewn in yet, it will come to 12.5 x 12.5".

You can do it carolmb!   :D  Lots of sewing time yet for experimentation.  That's what I kept telling myself last night when I was playing with that star, that if I screwed it up, I had plenty of time for a do over.

My satin stitches are far from perfect, The eyes well what can I say about the eyes!!

Love the braid pattern...

and the koi...just gorgeous, carol....donniesgirl--are you still doing that stain glass quilt from a few rounds ago or is this for another quilt?

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery
Post by: donniesgirl on August 07, 2013 09:11:05 AM
I believe the stained glass quilt was sloth's - I'd love to see that one put together too.  I have wonky log cabins put together for a throw size ready for me to rent time on the long arm (round 1), a raw edge circle quilt in Christmas colors that does not have nearly enough squares yet to be a decent size (round 2), and textured blocks (http://mypatchwork.wordpress.com/quilt-tutorials/textured-quilt-sampler-tutorial/) that I want to add to before I put the top together for a bigger quilt (round 3).

This round, I'm doing one group with scotties for a friend's daughter's Christmas or birthday gift (depending on how quickly I pull it together).  And then carolmb's block is for a masculine Japanese themed quilt for my son.  He is part Japanese, so I wanted to do a heritage type themed quilt for him.  It's quilter's choice as to what they want to do with the theme, as long as it has a Japanese aesthetic and theme to it...so applique, embroidery, whatever.

oh, that's right! I loved that block so much!

how cool for your to have so many quilts in mind...thanks for sharing the story behind your masculine Japanese quilt!  I am also half-Japanese so I appreciate that you are trying to preserve his heritage!

I am glad you like it donniesgirl. I was so upset with the eyes, They don't match and bunched up on me. I wanted to cry!

It is not perfect, but it did turn out rather cute just the same. I do like the way the colors look so bright on the blue

Love that koi.

Figured out how to deal with my issues on Party Hats. It was coming out too big, so rather than wait until the block was finished before trimming, I started trimming the point segments to a perfect 4 1/2" square before adding the center or corners which are already 4 1/2" squares. No more problems!

Posted two of the blocks for Always and the last block for Danynn.

carolmb, I love that koi, that is amazing, is that all pieced together? It looks so intricate. I also just love your hunter stars, they are just so perfect.

Thanks for all the comments, The braid I was worried about because when I sewed the white triangles on it almost appeared to be curving but it came out just fine, maybe a trick of the eye or it was late, I've no idea. I did less double stitching but the odd time i forgot! I guess it's a habit that will take a while to shift!

And I am just itching to see the celtic twist top come together, they are all just fab blocks, the contrast looks stunning

You guys are killing me with those patriotic stars!!!  I know it is sappy, but each time i do a red, white and blue quilt, I get emotional...I guess because my dad was a career Army man and I learned early how lucky I am to be in this country...

Post by: carolmb on August 07, 2013 03:12:37 PM
Sparledust ya the koi is a pieced applique, 13 pieces satin stitched together. It wasn't hard, just size, trace, cut and sew. I did use some wonder under to help keep the pieces in place. The hardest was the stitching for me.

The Hunter stars was paper piece so it was pretty easy too.

I enjoyed both, both were pretty new techniques so I t was fun

Time for some catching up.  I had a reply almost finished about my numskullery in COMPLETELY missing the handy white line running down my bobbin plate to mark a 1/4 inch seam allowance when my tablet shut down on me.  Rather than take the time to turn it on, sign it, etc. I jumped right into more sewing - this time watching that handy white line.  Two Garden Path blocks later, sewn concurrently of course, they came out too small.  Thanks handy white line for being no help at all.  Then I tried the star block I already had cut out.  It was soooooo close!  How on Earth did I do better on the star than on the ones with nothing but squares and triangles!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?  Needless to say I was feeling quite dejected and gave up for the night.  Now that a couple of days have passed I'm ready to try again.  This time I'm going to try Carolmb's tip about the 1/16th diference.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one with size issues.  That is greatly helping me keep my sanity!

Wish me luck......

*sigh* it's been that kind of day.

That line should read nothing but squares and rectangles

I'm loving all the fabulous blocks and I sincerely covet that koi!   My almost five year old princess was very upset that it wasn't coming in the mail to her.

Happy crafting all,
Martha

Ok, I got the beast together & it is most definitely 12" and not 12.5".  carolmb - would you mind if I trimmed it down some and did a border to get to 12.5"?

I measured the paper piecing template and either it is wrongly sized or it didn't print right.  And I measured the one inch test block so...

I don't think I understood paper piecing enough to try it either.   ;)  lol  It was just pretty - I had to try it.  I thought maybe I'd make a quilt of it or use it in a future round, but I don't think so now...or maybe I just need more paper piecing practice.

amnesia you can do it they are not as hard as they look, just have to lay out the block and make sure to watch the color choices, it is easy to mix them up, I had to make sure to keep the order marked so they block would come together right, other than that it was easy and it is a block that likes it's scant 1/4 inch seam.

donniesgirl love the paintbox blocks

I put a couple more of sloth's blocks up.

I'm going to see what I can get done over the weekend and then it's likely about a week & a half sewing hiatus for me.  I'm taking some time off work to see what can be done about potty training my very stubborn son and all my attention will be on that.  I'm trying to amp myself up for it but I'm really not looking forward to it.   ::)

Well after getting another 12" paper pieced star, I got my DH involved & it appears to be the printer.  Banded star (http://sewhooked.com/2013/05/09/between-heaven-texas-blog-hop-free-pattern-and-giveaways/):

This particular pattern did not have a test square & I just went for it - my bad.  So I may send both as extra 12 inchers to carolmb...or I may still put the border on the lone starburst...But for now, I'm going to set these stars aside and do some more paintbox blocks for sloth because I'm very irritated with the stars...

Wow donniesgirl, that block looks absolutely amazing, the colours blend so smoothly, you must have one hell of a stash and the pateince of a Saint! :)

Also really loving all the paintbox blocks that have appeared since I last had a peek, they are such rich colours, I think that's one on my to do list now

I've posted my last blocks up for Fontiua which will be sent Tues as I can never get a lunch break on a Monday.

Can't believe I'm all done, but so pleased I've done it in time before moving in Sept, now I'm just going to be board stalking :D

Post by: carolmb on August 12, 2013 04:39:32 AM
Here are the two I did for amnesia, am posting small images simply because I am not thrilled with them.

They came out too size, yet on the Northumberland Star a few of the parts didn't line up, and when joined in a quilt lose the points on the star.

The Saw Tooth Star, too size and again when joined in a quilt will lose the points on the star.

So this leads me to think, when I reset my seam allows after doing the a block that said reg 1/4 I did not get it correct.

Therefore I will send these and start again on the total of three.

The panda is very cute and the block is awesome.  There are a lot of little pieces in there.  Pandas are Chinese, so I think I will use that block for a throw pillow or something else in his room instead.  I'm on the verge of redecorating J's room into a "big boy room."  :)

I am going to select some stars this weekend...I think I am in the mood to do kbrison's scrappy ladders!  I will have to pay attention to the directions of my triangles...it took me nearly 10 minutes to finally figure out what carolmb was talking about when she said she flipped a piece... ha ha ...my eyes missed it for sure!

Oh wow so many more in the gallery. I was thinking the same as EllaRain with the paintbox blocks but bundled together like that just on the screen you can see how it can be such an inviting, proper homely quilt and just so striking.

I really love your star blocks danynn, especially the morning star, those colours all just pop together and with the stripe it is one of my fav's so far. They also look just perfect and I doub't I'd even attempt the Northumberland star now I've seen yours! It's nice to see a block with such similar colour work so well as I'm used to contrasting and matching so something I'll think about doing in the future.

More of my scrappy ladders. Yeah!

I think my machine and I have finally agreed to a truce, meaning I have blocks to post in the gallery!

The color is off in some of the photos, especially the greens in the Garden Fence blocks, and at least one is blurry so I will probably retake them tomorrow but I just can't resist posting them RIGHT NOW!

None of them are perfect and the mistakes are really bugging me, but overall I'm pleased.  I'm posting one Paintbox for sloth, one blue and yellow star for kbrison, the Garden Fence blocks for EnginerdLisa (The one with the tree border has a short spot on one side so I'm sending an extra.  This block gave me fits at first so I also have four other ones that came up small that will become the start of a green Garden Fence quilt for me!) and two pinwheels for carolmb.  I am MOST proud of these because they are so new for me!  For the green and teal one I followed carolmb's tutorial from a previous round.  The orange/green/yellow one I did on a wing and a prayer, thinking I had calculated the right size squares to come out at the right size block overall.  It's not quite right, but I am beyond thrilled how well it worked.   ;D

If these are not what you were looking for, or if the mistakes are too much when you recieve I'll be happy to redo any of them.

 :D Martha

I am loving the French braid pattern a lot!  lovely job, sparkledust!

FoxyMama--the green garden fence blocks are fantastic!  I love all the shades of green you managed.  Also, the pinwheels and stars are so lovely!

I just want everyone in my groups to know that in every quilt block swap that I have been in here and elsewhere, I have managed to tweak even not so perfect blocks to fit...so please, don't sweat it for my blocks...I kind of like those blocks...I also collect orphan blocks for small projects or to donate to a large Lancaster county quilt guild for charity projects...each year, they collect these blocks and make quilts for all sorts of special people in need...and they are GORGEOUS!

Quick question FoxyMama, Did I get too crazy with the color mix here?

I haven't added the white boarder to it yet, just let me know if I have gone way over board on the mix here LOL.

Was just cutting and stitching and might of got carried away

I had fun putting it together, perhaps to much, was just pulling long strips from my box, going "okay thats a blueish, tealies color, okay that's a reddish looking color, ohhh that has come gray in it. and gotta have some white" then I did the joining and Like "hmmm okay might be a bit too scrappy"

Title: Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery

My blocks for FoxyMama may be even scrappier. If you know how large a 10 ream case of paper box is, imagine it filled with fat quarters. I went through my fat quarters and scraps pulling happy colors that also included white. When I finished, the box was full and my fabric stash barely had a dent in it. Think I may need to make one of those quilts for myself with the strips I'll have left. Decided a photo would give you a better idea. Looks like at least one block will have a lot of red.

Any of the fabrics I don't use for FoxyMama are going into Carol's pinwheels and stars. I'm challenging myself not to duplicate fabrics (other than black or white) in any of the blocks.

Okay I went ahead and put the boarder on the string block, If FoxyMama doesn't like it or can't use it in the quilt, will still send and she can make a pillow or bag or something out of it LOL.

think I will try one of the wonky Log Cabins so at least everyone has something up in my gallery. Then finish off my groups.

My daughter is just about packed for the road trip to Rhode Island on the First so with any luck I will have everyone done and shipped by then if not still will have about 20days when we get back, just really wanna have everyone done before hand *sighs*

I all works out in the end and the way it should

Sorry to be late to the party - I just got home from work and am catching up.
The block is lovely Carolmb - not too scrappy at all! :-)

Carol, if FoxyMama doesn't like that block, you have my address! ;D

Kbrison - #1 Back away from my block!   ;). #2 I love the box of fat quarters!  I'm also planning not to duplicate fabrics - with the exception of solid white.   Great minds and all that.  :D

I just love this swap!

Good glad ya like! Will if ya wanted purple or green I got tons! Blues and reds not as much so will be a little repeat lol....

I got purples out the ears. From doing quilt top from last round. It's purple and gray and I didn't use the same purple in more them one block.

Green I just seem to pick up greens each time I shop....is that a sickness?  :P

Green is mine! and I seem to find another shade or a combination that I just can't walk out of the store without.

As to the purple, the quilt is for my dd and her fav is purple, good thing lots of people like purple LOL.  I like it in small amounts, about like orange it has it's place just not everywhere  ::)

I am a Red Hat member (yes I know am not a Red Hatter I am a pink hatter, it's an age thing) so I see lots of purple and red and when I make things for the group I see it till I am dreaming red and purple LOL

Love the red hat ladies, a bunch of them cam out and cheered at my last half marathon, and they were the loudest most enthusiastic cheering section out there.  However, every time I see the purple and red together I cringe, that is a combination that I just can not stand.

Just about done with the wonky log cabin blocks.  Sooo hard for my mind NOT to correct the not straight lines. *sighs* I would have to all looking good turn, add, trim, turn, add...trim.....what...in autopilot I fixed the wonky cut....wonky is so crazy for me.

I shall get it, they are coming a long, I just have to keep telling myself "it is not to be straight, not straight is right"  :P

I have trouble with wonky too.  I like quilting because of the straight lines and nice geometry, it all makes sense in my little math brain.  Wonky doesn't process!

You guys are killing me with your stars!  I never thought I was a stars person until I saw all of the ones you picked!

The rainbow ones you made donniesgirl are fantastic!

foxymama--I love the pinwheels you are doing...

I tend to have loads of red in my stash...I think it is because I make a lot of "patriotic" quilts for charity...I usually have to go out and get blues as I am not drawn to them...oh wait, I lie...I have tons but I am collecting them for a blue and white tile quilt! ;D  Green is also my "go to" color...and I do love purple, but have not had a lot of occasion to use that color until this swap... ;D

I have way too many blocks from this swap that I want to try...the French braid is on top of that list!

Thanks!  It's been nice to test drive some of the block patterns I've seen around to see if I'd want to invest in them for a full quilt or a future swap round.  That lone starburst pattern has so much potential & is excellent for scraps.  I saw one on Pinterest where the colors & white were the opposite of what I did and it was so pretty.  But if you're not good at paper piecing (and I would say it isn't my forte) then it is some rough going.  :D

Didn't get around to doing the paintboxes yesterday, but I did do some calculations. I didn't quite like the way the instructions cuts off so much fabric, so I checked what you'd get if you just cut pieces to size. Instead of the ~9"x15" the instructions suggest, cutting pieces to size will let you get away with 9''x8'', with a scrap of only 1x3'' (or none if you cut it 3x7+6x8). That's saving 9"x7" of fabric! Holy...

If I get the chance, I'll try to make a pair of blocks according to my numbers, and see if it comes out right :)

very pretty colors amnesia

My first paintbox is up!

Here's my modified cutting scheme, in case anyone's interested (not to scale! just an illustration!)

Worked with stacking two colors, just like in the instructions. I started by cutting the two 7x3 and 8x6 sections from each fabric, then stacked each size with its partner fabric for easier cutting. From the 7x3 I cut a 7x1.75 strip, resulting in both outer strips being done.

Then I stacked the 8x6 fabrics, and cut a 3x6 strip. Leaving the fabrics in place after the cut, I sliced myself a 1.75x8 strip (giving me 5x1.75 and 3x1.75).

I removed those two newly cuts, and sliced the fabrics still lying in place for a 1.25 strip as well. Again I removed the newly sliced 1.25's, and also the 3x3 square bit at the bottom.

Then the remaining bit gets a 1.75 strip sliced off, and we've got all our pieces! And saved almost enough fabric for an entire second pair of blocks... :)

Some really neat blocks being posted.
danynn, my garden fence blocks look great!  I especially love the teal one - such gorgeous fabrics.
I am also totally in love with that blue and green pinwheel that FoxyMama made for carolmb. That patchwork border really frames out the block nicely.

I posted some more blocks, the last two for Melladh and two for Sparkledust.  Sparkledust, I had some fun with your blocks (I rather like patterns that give you a little room to play), but please let me know it they were not what you had in mind.

Such gorgeous blocks in the gallery!  I was out of town for the weekend but hope to get another big chunk done by the end of this coming weekend.

Sloth - I like making your paintbox squares!  It's so much fun to play with the different pattern and color combinations.  I have the rest of the patterns cut and the matching solids picked out waiting to be cut.

Now that donniesgirl is in my group I get to shopping in my Christmas fabrics!  New fun!

Just posted EllaRain's blocks. On the downhill slope . . .working on AIMR's blocks now. Tracked down three of my Carol Doak paper-piecing star books. Looks like my blocks for Carolmb are going to be the most complicated ones I make, but I like challenges.

I had already decided to start a green themed garden fence quilt for myself - partly because I love greens and this pattern really lets you highlight that central square and also because I had trouble getting the size right and have four blocks already sitting here complete.  I have to say, I'm really loving all of ellarain's happy color ones.  They are all so bright and beautiful!  I think I will need one in that happy bright color scheme as well.  This swap may just have created a garden fence monster!

Love the celtic twist Alwaysinmyroom.

I have been playing around with doing one in greens or purples for my girls. Just not sure of a background color. black, white, cream or just a very light green or purple

I am sure by the time i get ready to do one, I will have the colors picked

So I'm really pleased all my blocks have now been confirmed received. I've had a peek in the gallery after a very busy week, I am just loving Donniesgirl's Lone starburst, just goes to show no matter how many fabrics you can cram in a block they will always turn out super awesome! Even using prints it doesn't detract, I just love it.

Craolmb - the crane block, is that applique or some kind or origami quilting, it looks so precise? I also really love your stars you've added, especially the green one. Modern strings, just WOW I need to make myself one of these, what a great way to use scraps and not look like you've used scraps!

YAY EllaRain has posted some for my quilt, how exciting! I love there is some blue in it, they can work for both boy and girl :D The first one is genius putting same fabric each side, I'd never think to do it but it pulls the block together so well.

Sloth003, I have fallen in love with them all, I really can't pick. That dog is way cute though!

YAY Melladh has also posted some of mine, hip hip hooray I just want to piece it together right now!

Can't wait to see the Garden Fence greens together, and the xmas quilts, they made me very excited too!

Now my husband has told me to stop squealing and join him so I think I will and spy again tomorrow! Happy sewing everyone

Yes - I gave everyone an alternate that is just squares and triangles if it proves too difficult.

Just posted EllaRain's blocks.

Kbrison, they are beautiful!! You have done a great job of highlighting the fabrics.  Plus they are already in the mail. . .I am so excited ;D.

Sloth, I really like all of your colorful stars. I need to remember how cool using many different colors can look when I start making my pinwheels for carolmb.

I posted two patriotic stars for alwaysinmyroom.

Really cool dragon danynn!

I'm eyeing a lot of these blocks for "mm I'll probably never actually make that" plans.

Also, I've cut all the pieces for jungrrl's blocks. Then I took a break. :D I've had one of those weird days where I can't quite figure out what I did with any of the hours, and still I got up early, kept busy, and I'm very tired... (Well, I made muffins at some point. It says breakfast muffins, but they're very very sugary. You people are insane. Delicious, but insane.)

I put the last of foxy's modern strings up - that's probably the block I'm mostly likely to select in a future round.  :)  The brights & white really are going to be pretty.

I also did a Going Dutch (http://happyquiltingmelissa.blogspot.com/2013/04/going-dutch-block-tutorial-block-4-of.html) pinwheel for carolmb and about half way through, I realized it was waaaay short of 12.5."  Duh - reading comprehension is obviously not my strong suit since the tute plainly says 8".   :P  But it has blue bonnet fabric, so I'm sure you can find a place for it carolmb & I'll pop it in with the rest.

And here is my stack o' Christmas raw edge circle blocks, just waiting for me to have enough for a decent sized quilt.

First of jungrrl's blocks are up.

Colorwise it's not as dark and odd as in the picture. :-| My phone updated itself today and now the camera can't handle night time photos (I have a flourescent light that it usually handles decently) It's both brighter AND darker, and softer colors... Though I'm not sure I hit the colors well anyway, but I tried!

The Celtic sunrise block is paper pieced...and it actually came out to the right size! lol. It was one I kept putting down because there are a lot of pieces and it was time consuming. But each of the units had no more than four pieces on it so it wasn't TOO bad - just a lot of units.

And that godzilla block is really cute danynn.

kbrison--I loved the blocks you sent...the backs were so nicely done.. ;)

After getting  yours and carol's, I realized that I am probably going to have enough blocks to do TWO quilts for the auction!!!  duh, what was I thinking when I picked the same block for two groups!

I managed to get EllaRain's blocks done so I will post those...I have so much cut out and just need time to sit down and sew without interruption from hubby, who is recovering from surgery, and mom, who needs a gingerale every hour it seems... ;D

Lovely blocks showing off in the gallery...I just love the stars...I hope to work on krbison's ladder blocks next...I love that pattern...

AND...I got my order of red and green fabrics for your blocks, donniesgirl....it took a bit to find ones that I don't think you have yet...I ordered enough to start my own as well...next round, guess what I am picking!!!? ;)

This is just to advise I have no internet connection from 9th Sept - 20th whilst we move and await being re-set up! However, if I get a chance at work of course I'll log on, how could one resist, it would certainly be rude not to!

Had FoxyMama's blocks almost done, but the white edging started ruffling big time so am going to redo that part of each block before sending.

Was toodling along on Carol's blocks. I'm paper piecing some of Carol Doak's star and pinwheel patterns. I ran all the paper copies, cut all the pieces for two blocks according to the directions, but forgot that I had enlarged the patterns to make the blocks 12" finished squares. !*?#@!* Don't know what I'll do with all those small pieces, but at least I still had enough fabric left to enlarge and re-cut the patterns in my original color schemes.

Should be posting photos in the next few days.

ellarain--your blocks are looking good!

I like what you did with the ladder block...lots of wonderful fabrics in them!

Sloth--I must have missed your scotties!  They are so cute!  Also, I am so impressed with all of your stars....

melladh--I love the vintage wildflower block you did for jungrrl

amnesia--wow!  that kimono block is fabulous...is it your own pattern?  I would love to do that block in a quilt for my mom!

I agree - this is going to be such a fun quilt.  I was a bit worried everyone would think I was nuts when I sent the idea for the blocks out.   ;)  I love all the blocks.  Now I just need to decide if I'm going to add a few blocks of my own...probably not.  Twelve is plenty with the wide sashing I have in mind.

FoxyMama's blocks are up! If the photos look F'd it's because photobucket is being a right bitch (and craftster's server code trying to be clever isn't helping, as it keeps referring to the cached images instead of my actual updated ones)

hopefully it'll straighten itself out before you get to them.. ;)

EllaRain's blocks are up! They're probably my favorite ones so far, I love stronger colors :D They're a bit lighter than they seem in the picture, but the saturation looks about right. ;)

The are gorgeous!!  I love how rich the colors are. It is strange, because I have very few rich colors like that in my stash.

I posted two blocks for carolmb.

The painting looked quite rich, so I tried to imitate that :D I tend to primarily buy rich colors for my stash, and then maybe not be able to use them because they're all a bit more rich than what any project calls for >_> I'm just so easily wooed by shiny fabrics!

I just put up FoxyMamma's blocks.  The dark spots on the cream background are the tape I used to put it on the wall to take pics (not stains).

I just finished catching up on the boards and the gallery and all the new blocks are GREAT! Melladh those vibrant garden fence blocks are gorgeous and I can't wait to lay out my Autumn blocks all together. They're all fabulous!

I spent the weekend cutting and sewing like a madwoman and managed to finish sloth, donniesgirl (CHRISTMAS) and alwaysinmyroom.  The very first party hat block came out off-sized and I thought, "Here we go again." But somehow like magic, I finally figured out the right seam allowance and the others came out right - with the proper points even!!!  Tonight I tackled assembly on the first Scotty block, the one I was MOST nervous about...  I can't believe it but it came out right on the first try.  There are a couple of itsy bitsy spots that aren't perfect but it's RIGHT on the first try,

For the first time in this swap I actually feel confident about what I'm doing.   ;D

I'll try to get pics posted tomorrow.

I'm loving all the new blocks :) And feeling like I might actually finish on time, unless something suddenly breaks down today! :D

Also, I just realized one of my partners has no pets, and one has a dog. The other six have cats. And so do I. :D I'm going to assume this means quilters are generally cat people.

I have cats and a dog...but I am basically a cat person. ;D

I realized that I have 9 blocks to do for carolmb since she was gracious enough to send me the wonky scrap blocks she had made...then I am DONE!

I have to find three more stars...or different fabrics...hey, now that is an idea I can go with...shopping time! ;D

I'm almost done with alwaysinmyroom's - I've sewed each of the 3 blocks into the 3 strips.  I just need to sew them all together now & done.

And I finished one block for kbrison & am half way through another.  Then I guess I need to decide on my last star.

I'm hoping to send to all 3 of my remaining partners on Saturday.  I just realized that the deadline is this weekend!  Eep - where did the time get away from me?  :)

Tell me about it - I decided to do another mini lone star, which has embedded seams & I'm getting the distinct impression I got lucky on the first one I made.   ;)  I was going to pick the easiest stars I could find lol but then I thought since I tried these crazy blocks for everyone else, I ought to put a little oomph into kbrison's too.

Fontiua's blocks are up, and I am DONE! Sheesh. I'm exhausted. It's so stressful taking the week off from work :P

I doubted I'd make it in time (going on a long weekend tomorrow), but the braids were really quick. Piecing them together took exactly four episodes of Yogscast Sips Plays: Knife of Dunwall ;)

Once again the photos are really dark, because autumn is trying to get a promotion by working really hard and showing what it's got, so it's that hard-to-deal-with twilight outside that seeps into the apartment, which lamps don't seem to help all that much with.

Love all the scotties that have gone up!  I'm thinking I'm going to give this one to the little girl for her 3rd birthday in May.  I have a couple clothing items in the pipeline for Christmas for her & I don't want to stress getting to the longarm rental before the holidays & then sending out of state...All my family is out of state & it's always so stressful every year trying to mail in time, especially if I'm crafting gifts.

What kind of rotary cutter does everyone use?  I have a fiskars, and it doesn't cut well, and loosens up and gets wobbly or comes apart.

Really?  I thought they were supposed to be decent.  I think mine are both Olfa.  One was from Hobby Lobby & the other Hancock Fabrics.

I have been using fiskars for years...I also have a problem with the screw thing coming loose but if you tighten it too much, the blade won't roll...I have been meaning to get a new, professional one for years...I would like to know what others are happy with as well...

Oh dear. I have two fiskars in different models, both are awesome. Stable, sturdy, and good blades. I haven't changed my blade since I got it seven or eight years ago. You must've gotten a specifically crummy one, you should go exchange it. I mean they have to have some sort of warranty for malfunctions.

Mine are probably 15 or 20 years old ;D  or more... ;D

I buy blades in 25 packs...thinking of getting a sharpener but, with coupons, they are not that bad and I am pretty lazy...I am a woos...I change blades  a lot...

I have four rotary cutters, 2 Fiskars, 2 Olfa. I use my ergonomic handled Olfa the most, my straight line Olfa the least. I like the grip on my Fiskars, but all of them cut well for me.

Just posted two stars  and 1 pinwheel block for Carolmb. Actual colors are slightly brighter than the photos.

Tonight has been spent cutting and sewing! I tried to make a second round of scrappy strips for Sparkledust. My first set seemed pretty boring so I tried again with some other fabric that I thought was prettier. The blocks look super pretty! But my word they're not the right size. How can that block be the one giving me the biggest fits?  :D

I also made two garden fence blocks which look gorgeous! But I have to wait on the third until I go get some more white fabric tomorrow.

Now I'm working on cutting the braid-y bits for Fontuia.  :)

I should be able to put up a couple of photos in the morning when the light is better.

I'll be spending the next two nights and early Saturday sewing sewing sewing! Not sure how all this time crept up on me so.  :P

I also love the vintage look fabrics a lot of you are using in your blocks!

uh oh--I was in such a hurry to mail that I forgot to slap a return receipt thingy on two of the packages!  They aren't going far, so I hope they will be ok!  One to donniesgirl and the other to EllaRain!  I'll post pics of all the blocks I have done this weekend...I am still working on stars and pinwheels for carolmb...have four done but I have 5 to do!!

Maybe we should all show our bloopers and works in progress. :-\  Mine would show me ripping out stitches and re-cutting pieces. I love sewing a perfect seam only to realize that I've sewn the white-on-white triangle wrong side up! Or that I should have cut the paper-piecing segments 1/2" larger.  Aargh! Working on Carolmb's last pinwheel, then I have one more star for her. Then I have to fix the edging strips on Foxymama's blocks . . . unless she likes deeply ruffled edges???? Nope, didn't think so. Oh, well! Back to the seam ripper.

Heh. Making the Eccentric Star block for carolmb, I realized I had sewn one corner backwards. So I ripped it off, turned it, and resewed. Then I realized that I had somehow overlooked the part where the pattern was for a 9" square. :P So I calculated the new sizes I would need, cut them, sewed them...and sewed the same damn corner backwards. Re-enter the seam ripper. Sigh.

Also, now I have this 9" Eccentric Star block sitting on my crafting table just begging me to do something with it.

ha ha if I took pics of the bloopers and posted them, it would crash this thread... ;D...seriously, I have learned a lot from everyone and one of them is to lay out my pieces BEFORE I sew...I still flip things and iron the wrong direction and have to do it all again...I am worst at new patterns...

carolmb is going to end up with a whole quilt of bloopers.   ;D

Aside from the pinwheel I didn't notice had a blooper until after she'd received it, I did catch one blooper on amnesia's that I ripped out & redid before I sent.  Not to mention the three blocks I made for carolmb that were the wrong size...

That sounds like fun! Might have to put a limit on the number of bloopers we could send though. LOL I have mine on my design wall to remind me what not to do. But even the bloopers are pretty. I'm thinking they may end up in a sampler quilt. Have a party hats block that was intended for you that's too big, a pinwheel for Carolmb that's too small, quilter's choice blocks from last round (I cut two of each block so I could remake any I screwed up), modern strings for Foxymama that I forgot to use any white strings in, Xmas raw edge blocks that were from the remnants of Donniesgirl's blocks, then crumb quilt blocks that I've been making from the trimmings from the last two rounds and scraps from some fabric projects I did for other swaps this year. Just can't seem to make any headway in clearing out my fabric scraps.

Ahhh the oopsies from this swap!  There was a period of time early on when I seriously contemplated giving up and dropping out because I just could NOT get anything to come out right   :(   I have FOUR green garden fence blocks that came out too small.  FOUR.  On straight lines, not even any triangles!  Even after I got my groove going the first party hat block came out too small and I jinxed myself on the scotties.  After the first one came out perfectly I rolled through two more only to discover... yep, too small!  My seam allowance got a bit off.  I spent part of Friday ripping and re-stitching.

I'm down to the last two and a half blocks.  I can honestly say I've learned a whole lot and I tried a bunch of brand new things.  My seam ripper has gotten quite the workout but I've had a blast and I'm really proud of the blocks I've been able to get completed! :-)

The scottie is actually really easy, the instructions are just written in a slightly unstructured way :) I found that just cutting out all the pieces and then looking at the step-by-step pictures helped more than trying to read the instructions.

She is right just cut and follow the pictures, also don't try to see the dog until it is done, so no stopping half way and trying to determine what is the ear and if the tie is going the right way, just follow the pictures!

I have done more new techiques and patterns in this swap than I ever would have thought possible.  My blocks aren't perfect, but I'm really proud of them and happy wth how they turned out.  I'm uploading pictures now to finish my gallery.  Whew!  What a ride  :D

I am starting to lay out my quilt design for my blocks...I think the auction is in the week before Thanksgiving so I don't want to wait too long...I think I might have enough blocks and filler blocks to do two quilts!  I would love to see what you guys do with all your blocks! ;D

All photos are now in the gallery!  103 different fabrics plus solid white - only one duplicate and that's because I goofed and used the same yellow in two of kbrison's blocks.  My OCD wanted to redo the starflower to get back to NO duplicates but I resisted  ;)

This has been such a great swap with such beautiful blocks.  I've definitely been inspired to try some of the blocks others swappers chose!  I'm with you always, I'd love to see the blocks all together and what the tops will look like.

I have some project ideas in the works - a party hats oopsie is going to go with the two solid modern strings from carolmb and become a runner, two scotty blocks are going to bookend a runner with the Christmas scotty fabric I have and I'm going to start a green garden fence quilt like Enginerdlisa's with the four oopsie blocks to get it started!

This was a great swap to get me back into the quilting grrove - thanks to all my partners foor swapping!  I had a blast and I'll definitely be on the lookout for the next round  ;D

Sent (just under the wire).  I was working on my last block yesterday and thought I would have plenty of time to get everything together and write little notes to everyone about how much I have enjoyed this swap.  Then, in rather stupid moment I lined up my ruler to trim up a perfect 12.5 square and sliced down the wrong side to made an 11.5 inch block  :P ) (Admittedly that was the second time I have done this during this swap).  So I ended up having to redo the block and, while I did still get everything together, I got too tired to write notes.
So, since I did not get a chance to say it, I had a great time creating these blocks and am really inspired by all of your guy's quilting skills.

Anyway, I posted the last two blocks in my gallery.  I am pretty proud of the last one for carolmb (after I redid it ::)) because it uses 8 different colors.

There are some fabulous blocks showing up in the gallery in mass!

Fontiua, I think I missed the blocks you made for me before, but the fabrics are lovely and the fabric on the blocks you made for sparkledust look like sherbert, I just want to eat them up.

jungrrl, I love how well the blocks you made for Melladhs capture that deep ocean feeling.

kbrison, the "state" stars you created are awsome!

Foxymama, your tone on tone red pinwheel and yellow star make me want to request tone on tone quilt blocks (maybe next time)

This swap has let me know firmly that I am not as great a quilter as I thought.  :P I never thought I was great but I thought I did ok until now. I hope my blocks are alright!

Also, I know I'm normally pretty quiet in swap threads, but I feel like I've been much more so during this swap and today I was finally able to post part of the reason why (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=427853.0#axzz2gVDTaHZr). I've been going through the whole application and interview process for this and trying to figure out transition plans for all my stuff here, as well as finishing up my derby season. So yea, not an excuse, but an explanation of where I'm coming from!  :)

Just posted photos of the last blocks I did for Carol and FoxyMama. I've enjoyed making almost all the blocks this round, although FoxyMama's gave me the most grief.  :-\ They were so-o-o easy . . . until I tried to add the white border to all those bias edges. Then I felt like I was making dresses for little girls . . . ruffles everywhere! Had to remove all the borders and start that part over, but I'm happy with the finished result.

I think I'm going to have to stop doing this swap. I'm never satisfied with just admiring everyone else's blocks; I always try out several of the blocks that someone else has requested. At this rate I'm going to have a zillion more unfinished quilt tops!  ;D Seriously though, I love the inspiration and challenge of this swap and hope to participate until I'm too old and blind to see!!!

I'm a late sender... but should be able to send tomorrow --  finally!  Our building's outgoing mail was apparently picked up by a moving company accidentally last week (we thought it was stolen) but it came back!  I' had started remaking blocks so I'll have a bonus block to throw in...but am pretty stoked that I'm not going to have to start from scratch!

I've received from everyone... so lovely!  I'm working on laying out this round's blocks with the last round's blocks... so much beautiful work ladies!!!

kbrison--I am so glad I was not the only one that hated those bias cuts! I read a tip on how to keep the edges from ruffling but could not find it, of course, when I needed it...they were lovely and some of my favorites to look at, but not to sew...

I really hated the stars and the pinwheels...I learned that I am not a precise cutter or sewer...but the challenge was excellent and I do hope to keep on improving my skills...

I have to hold up swapping here for a while as well since I have so many quilts to put together...last count was way over 20... ;D

You are too kind FoxyMama! ;D...as I told you in my pm...your blocks were some of the neatest and most precise blocks I have ever received in my entire life of quilting!  wow...I am not the neatest or most precise, so I was truly wowed!!  It must have taken forever to cut off each little tiny dangling thread...I couldn't find a single one!!! ;D

I just had a few moments at work to take a small break...I looked at our gallery and was amazed at how many blocks we all made!!!

kbrison...I think your Oklahoma Stars are some of the most complex blocks I have ever seen...those would indeed be a challenge...I saw a couple more stars and pinwheels that I want to try for carolmb...I swear, I think stars are growing on me! ;D

I want to get my quilt done quickly now...I really want to thank all of you for a wonderful, friendly and productive swap...

I was going to redo the easy circles for next round... But  I think it might have to be ribbon stars instead.   They were a recurring selection this round and they look so neat in so many ways.

That is a good choice...I also loved the Texas star...it was fun and relatively easy...I could see it in so many different ways...

So. With a few stray blocks from... two rounds ago. I had three sizes of blocks from this round. :)

A bunch at 6.5. More at 7 and a few at 8. So I put some more blocks with them and made three paintbox style tops.
And I have an inquiry into selling one of them. :) yay for hockey season. And the reminder of cold to come.

Wow. They look great! I have been studying how us crafters blend different sizes together. You did an excellent job. And I like how you divided the colors and hues to blend through out the quilts. Nifty!

Thanks but in all honesty. Colour distribution was hit or miss. :) random grab. when sewing strips together i tried to not have the pair in the same row, most of the time it was succesful. :) but sometimes, even the best laid plans run amok.  Amok i say!

A little tip I learned is to "squint" at the fabric/block layout. That way you don't see so much of the pattern, but more the contrast and hue of things. And also to center your favorite squares in the middle, and work from the inside out for your layout. But you did a fine job of things. I really like them!

I think I am a bit too OCD to do a random grab...it obviously works well as the color and pattern distribution on all three are lovely, sloth!

Yes, I think we all need to take a little break and put our quilt blocks together!!!

Donniesgirl - so very sorry for your loss. Don't know which is worse - the long drawn out deaths we expect or the sudden ones that blindside us. Both can be so painful. Wishing you the peace that family, love, and the passage of time can bring.

Sloth, love the way your blocks came together. Think I'm going to have to do a few more rounds before I have enough blocks to finish my quilts since I want them to be queen-size.

Sorry to hear, Donniesgirl, take your time!

I could never do random grab assembly, my pattern recognition is far too overactive, and if I don't work really hard to accomplish "random", I will always see pooling of patterns or colors in my own work. I'm always so impressed by people who just DO random-style crafts. It doesn't work for me.

I really thought I was going to have a lot more trouble with the stars but in reality, I had more trouble with random scrappy stuff...that surprised me...I am trying to come up with a way to help me see which way pinwheels need to go...I decided marking the hypotenuse of the triangle would be the best way for me to orient my vision...

btw--did you guys see the awesome Halloween bag krbison made with a star?  It is in the Weekend Halloween Swap...it is fabulous!

Thanks everyone for the lovely blocks.  I think it will be a while before I assemble the quilt top.  I didn't say anything during the swap, because I didn't really want to talk about it, but August was a rough month.  I went in for my 20 week ultrasound, and we were told there was a problem with the baby.  The next week I was admitted to the hospital for induction.  Our son passed away 3 hours after he was born.  Since the quilt was supposed to be for him I can't really bring myself to work on it right now.  I really appreciate everyones work, and apologize for not having a quilt top to show you all.

Lisa - there really is no need to be apologetic.  I am again so sorry for your loss.

I bought the fabric to bind & back my two quilts and when things calm down, I will post layouts.  And the finished projects of course.  I am determined to get some of these projects done (including round 1's, which I just need to long arm & bind).  I need to call the longarm rental lady at lunch today - it's been on my to do list & we've just been too busy.  My brother in law's funeral is this weekend.

Craft fair today, I tried getting some fabrics more aligned with my experience of this swap, but I ended up with mainly me-fabrics anyway :D Hopefully it'll be usable for round five though, whenever that happens! (look, some of these are neither jewel toned nor black!)

(I sort of derailed in this one quilt stand and bought all of these, then behaved and bought no more fabrics because I don't have any money left :D )

Here is the basic layout for my son's Japanese themed quilt:

I'm not sure if this will be my final arrangement, but it gives you an idea.  The blue fabric in the background is what I will use to sash the squares, but I'll be trying sashiko stitching to quilt this puppy.  I like how there are all kinds of different styles & aesthetics for the squares - whimsical, traditional, pieced, and stenciled.  :)

And then here is a layout for my friend's daughter's quilt:

I was originally going to sash with a red plaid, but I couldn't find one I liked so I got red & black houndstooth instead.  Here is a close up:

I haven't decided how to arrange the dogs, but after the apprehension everyone had with the scottie blocks, everyone did end up sending me dogs with bows instead of the easier backup square I sent along.   ;D  I'll probably give it to her for her 3rd birthday in May - I don't think I'm going to make Christmas.

wow--fabulous fabrics...I love the rocks!

I think quilts made with blocks from a variety of people really do add interest and charm to the quilts!

The Japanese inspired quilt is wonderful and full of great images and styles!

Also, the Scottie dogs are just too cute!!  I love the background you chose...I think it is much more subtle than a plaid would be yet it still pops the blocks!  Good call!

Unfortunately, the quilt blocks I sent to Fontiua got lost in the mail.  According to the tracking number they never even made it out of the town that I sent them from :-\.

Sorry you had to remake the blocks. Shipping stinks! My DD#1 was suppose to receive an inchie house from Germany a few weeks ago and something similar happened to her. The German PO swears the package arrived here and was signed for upon receipt. We were home all day on the supposed delivery date; no package arrived. Now we can't even find out where the house really did get delivered or who might have signed for it. US and German postal services are blaming each other and won't tell us or the sender anything except that the package was delivered and signed for. Think the pony express must have been more dependable.

EllaRain--those are very lovely!

I am working on my three blocks that I owe carolmb for making some scrappy blocks that she sent to me...they are pinwheels, which are tough for me because I am sure I must be triangle challenged...I am going to have Maremare look at them before I sew to make sure they go in the right direction! ;D

So glad they showed up!

If anyone is interested in a Round 5 after the holidays, please be sure to post here (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=428969.0#axzz2lJwNHAH4)!  I may take a little swap hiatus after the tea swap I'm in, but I'm on the fence about it.

I put the scotty top together, and booked an appointment with the longarm lady at the end of December so woo hoo!  :)  Time to get some quilts actually finished...

They are twin size

thanks to everyone who made me blocks. those left over will go in a third quilt for the caring quilts drive here locally.

I nearly have my Christmas themed raw edge circle quilt together, so I thought you might all like a peek:

I split it into quadrants and the pic above is of one quadrant.  Well most of it, I need to work on my photography skills.   ;)  The little squares were annoying me because it seemed like every time I laid them out, I would have a 3 year old or a cat messing them all up.  But the quadrants will be sewn into the top this week & then I'm hoping to get to the longarm place in the next few months.  I'm due in September and I want this one done before then.

I love the quilt quadrant! How sad is it though that I recognize several of the pieces I sent??? I showed this to my dh and asked what he thought of it. His response: "It's a little busy, isn't it?" My response: "Too bad. I'm thinking about making one just like it!" LOL
