Details of swap:
In this swap you will just be crafting one completed and clothed (if applicable) poppet for your partner. ***Just to clarify, this swap is considered a “poppet mini swap” in the sense that we are simply about sending a single poppet, as opposed to sending a poppet with supplies and whatnot, as would be required in a larger swap. However, if you would like to make or receive a mini (or smaller sized) poppet, please indicate it in your questionnaire and we will do our best to partner you accordingly*** Check out the poppet along which will help you with any questions in creating your poppet or give you inspiration https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=205341.0. As we would like to keep this swap as fair as possible and not have anyone feel as if they sent more than their partner, please just keep the package to the one completed poppet, unless you discuss swapping more with your partner beforehand!

Things to keep in mind:
1. Flakers will not be tolerated.
2. This swap has a mandatory weekly check in. This means that you must post (at least) once a week in the discussion thread in order to keep both your partner and us, the organizers, in the loop as to how your poppet is progressing and in order to reassure us that you are still alive in the world of poppets. We will be keeping a record of such posts and if you have poor communication, it will be noted in your feedback.
3. If you have not heard from your partner for awhile or notice that your partner has not been active in Craftster for a while, and you are feeling concerned, PM us! Or if for any reason whatsoever you have concerns, feel free to PM us!
4. We will not approve anyone who has multiple feedbacks stating that they have poor communication, have not used a DC#, or is a consistent late sender.
5. Everyone is expected to send on time.  If you are going to be late, you must notify us ASAP. Those who are late and do NOT notify us, will receive negative feedback which will not be removed or corrected until the poppet is sent, we receive a DC# and the package is received.
6.  Posting photos in the gallery is a rule of this swap.  Failure to do so will result in a comment in your feedback. A big part of swapping is posting your goodies in the gallery and acknowledging your partner's work, plus, we want to see all of the new additions to the poppet family! If you do not have access to a camera, please contact your partner and ask if they can take pictures of both packages which they send/receive.
7. If you are an international swapper or sending internationally and are unable to get a DC# you must retain a copy of your shipping receipt. If for any reason your package goes missing and you do not have a copy of the receipt to provide us the organizers, you will have to resend to your partner.

When you send averyg a PM, please label it as Poppet Mini Swap Approval/ Sent/ Received/ etc.

If you want to participate, send this information to the averyg only labeled as “The Poppet Mini Swap Round Five: Approval”:

I am torn...

I think I can do this so filling out the Q (i.e. updating the last one)
It's been a whirlwind week, with big changes at work, with kids' schedules and with school.
Gearing up already to start RN school!!!

Sooo... If I can get some things out of the way before Friday, I'm in!

Hehe, I know, just like old times huh!

Well, I'm thinking I gotta, cuz it'll be a loooong time before I could do another swap after this one wraps up. On top of having to train one more employee (just finished 2 others) I just found out I need one more class prior to nursing school, so there'll be no summer vaca. Meh, not bad, just busy. ;)

Ugh i always hated essays in school...thankfully most of my years in homeschool were filled with essay-less bliss!! T.T cant say the same for my last 3 years in college.....2 essays a week ....in almost every class! Hope you finish quickly...that essay surely cant be as entertaining as the lot of us =D ~~~~temmmpppptationnnnn~~~~

though....I used to wait until the day the essay was due to be bothered writing it ha ha ha!! (dont ask me how I managed A+'s for 3 years lol!!)

I cheated.... I found a craft store about 30miles away (yep...i really made the drive...) and bought plain old brown teddy bear eyes and orange cat eyes (was all they had anyway...) and busted out my trusty dremel XD and my lovely engraving bit...only takes me about 2min per eye to slowly grind out the color and paint over it XD the smaller eyes are faster but if I go to fast the dremel skips and hits the outer eye....and meh...thats a pain

If you want to avoid potentially damaging them with a dremel, I just try to get as much of the paint off as I can with nail polish remover, and then what is remaining I just sandpaper. It probably doesn't take more than 5 minutes or so an eye.

The only eyes I can get here are basic amber doll eyes or green cat eyes. I usually draw/paint doll faces   but hopefully my partner won't mind amber eyes or some close variant as I can repaint the backs.

I personally always preferred to paint the eyes on because I feel I can give them more expression that way.
But those "3D" look of safety eyes  is cool too.

I've got about 1/4 to 1/3rd inch of colored plastic on my eyes xD i tried nail polish remover and a small nail sander.... nothing touched it (hence why I got mad and busted out the dremel ha ha ha !!)

Sharpie's Stained fabric markers are awesome for drawing faces on poppets, gotta be careful though the ink flows so easily!

Everyone will be required to post in this thread at least once a week with an update regarding their status
once the swap goes live!

Thanks Sharalee, it's what keeps me sane some days. I just need to be careful it's not too much. This will probably be my last one till next year this time because I'll need to really buckle down to get through.

As for eyes, I love painting mine. Ordered a whole slew of clear ones back when, after having to clean off so many cat eyes. I usually paint several after the head is done, then see which fits best with the theme I'm building. Nothing to be scared of.
I've never painted eyes onto a doll, but I've sewn on buttons and beads.

I will hopefully have the partners up tonight- if not, early tomorrow morning. I still have to do a bit of fiddling around. I think(?) that there are going to be 2 partnerships of 3 people, that will make managing the international people easier/ make it easier (and hopefully less expensive) for shipping.

LOL ;D I just PM her and probably confused her. But I think she's right. I've stalked her and pretty much liked alot of stuff she did. Only problem is I don't have anything for her to go on to much since I'm pretty dense with the facebooking and wisting and pinning. just can't get it right. :-[. And that's right I was at JoAnns with my coupons today too. I was there 3 hrs just looking and thinking. I got some things not knowing her answers but thinking " If she says .....I can use this"  and If she says.....I will use this"  and if not I"ll use it for my poppets. ;D

I spent some time last night modifying the Poppet pattern slightly & think I can get it to work for me.

My Mondays & Tuesdays are taken up with work-based training schemes for the next three weeks which will certainly cut into my craft time but luckily I have no commute as the training centre is on the next street to my house  :D

I found the neatest trick to putting the head on the body of the poppet, I kinda cheated though! I took one of my extra long jointing needles and shoved it down through the top of her head and into the neck...works great for holding it in position so it doesnt shift up or down as your stitching the head to the neck!  (Also for a nice stiff neck, anyone else ever think to use one of those really tiny empty spools of thread instead of a popcicle stick? Worked great for my last poppet)

Think I'm going to remake the head on this one...Think I missed the seam allowance I wanted and somehow hit a corner XD now she's lopsided ha ha ha!!

Off to the fabric store (where I am going to get upset because they don't have the fabric I want and the sales ladies are totally bitches, standing around in groups, gossiping about colleagues, while the lines at the cutting tables lengthen. At least that's what happens 90 % of the time)

Wow, you should take me shopping with you... I have no patience for that kind of stuff....I'd open my mouth and my vocabulary would have those girls busting arse just to get me the hell out of the door! If I went with you, I bet the next time you went, they'd be in such a hurry to get everything you need/want just incase I'm lurking outside buwahaha!! Lucky for me, the ladies at my store are helpful and love discussing the stuff I'm off to try and craft up =D

I thought I was the only one who had this issue!!!!!!! I asked for safety eyes the other day, the lady goes "what are safety eyes" I explained they are for doll making etc etc

She brought me to the googly eyes. I had a face palm moment.

I ended up finding safety eyes with the embroidery hoops

I am ordering trinkets etc online :)

I had that same face palm moment about a week ago... "I've never heard of safety eyes...we have teddy bear eyes though" then she started explaining about the back of them so how kids cant pull em off and how "safe" they were.... then she stopped, i giggled, and she face palmed next....was hilarious!

I'm just checking in today so everyone knows I'm still here.
I've been busy with ideas and wanting to dye some materials to see which one will give me the color I'm wanting. Different material=different color. :-\.
It's so exciting! Also working with adapting the pattern but still keeping it looking like a POPPET. So I guess I'll go crack the whip cuz you know the deadline will be here sooner than we think ;D

Infact.....actually just recently found out those stores were even here!!! I finally got her face the way I wanted it to come out, personally I'm rather liking the eyes I come up with for this (I did use the safety eyes but I totally got rid of the old color, rofl only 1/8 inch of color ground out with a dremel) and I FINALLLLLY figured out the eyelid tutorial!! (Thank the lady who posted her progress pics of how she did it or I NEVER would have gotten the general idea!!)  I cant wait till she's done so you can see her Sharalee!! I hope you love her!

Although this weekend I'm watching my grand-nephew (my niece's 19 month old) and that child never sits down! Busy busy busy, climbing, running, climbing, oh and running and into everything! and running and throwing himself down when he doesn't get what he wants and I'm like "YAY! enjoy your floor time little man! Dont feel to bad, my poppets *except for the bunny one I made* ran around naked forever...in the end my grandmother made the clothes for the elf poppet XD and the two other ones I was playing around with, one's still naked, the other is a quadruple amputee still ha ha!!

I've got to run to the store, found out I dont any black fabric with no stretch! Which is weird because I swore I did... so off to the store I go! =D must say its far more motivating to finish it since its for someone else, if it was mine XD she'd probably sit around naked forever like the others lool!!

Arrgh!! >:( None of the fabric took the dye >:( . I used 3 different fabrics ,3 different hues , and Rit Dye. And then to add insult to injury , the test pattern material I 've been working with had no stretch and kept unraveling. Could've swore it said alova. Back to the drawing board and to Joanns for new Fabric with right color. No more messing around.

I've used just plain cotton muslin on most of my poppets, I jsut add an extra half inch past the seam allowance and I've used a perma-fray glue on the ends to make sure it cant unravel XD I go overboard sometimes but thus far I've never had a problem with it and it frays like hell!! (and ive got no pinking shears T.T) I kind of like the alova but its muderin my hands workin with it =D but its sooooooooo soft!!! no wonder its addicting...

I would have to dye the muslin and I'm all out .I thought for sure one of them would have dyed. I had, I think it was, microsuede , alova ,it was grey ,wrong color , and a some kind of velvet ( which I really wanted to use cuz it had a nice stretch). My husband is like "use leather".There's a sale on leather at Tandyleather and he wants just wants to buy some color upholstery hide ::). I think I"ll see tomorrow. I'm finished for today.
What do you think Illiamdra? Leather?    :-\

I had such a busy week with my son out on break and a busy weekend, I had no time to sit down and really stalk and make some decisions. Although, my mind has been on it all week brainstorming! I just need to stalk a bit more and narrow down what I'm gonna do.

Can't wait to go fabric shopping for Averyg's poppet!  I think that's one of my most favorite parts of the process of creating these dolls...going to the fabric store and checking out all the goodies to behold and brainstorming. Sometimes, I've had an idea in mind and went to the fabric store and being around all the different mediums to work with, I changed my mind to something completely different!!! SUCH a fickle girl and a very lucky one to have three fabric stores right up the road from me  ;D  I KNOW!  lucky huh?  :) :) :) :) :)

Ha ha ha if I had 3 fabric stores that close to me I'd be in trouble by now XD I'm terrible with math so my total is always WAYYY higher than what I planned lool!!

Ive got a few other poppets I could work on since this one is done....but my poor back needs a break and I'm sure the baby wants to really play with an undistracted mommy  XD my poor back has never been the same since that epidural....never again am I doing that for sure, I'd rather suffer the whole time and walk around than be stuck on my back the whole time!! Wow how my mind wanders when I just get up.... ooohh food *wanders off*

I had a big facepalm moment today.

I have been avoiding my sewing machine because it wasn't sewing anything and I was just getting a giant tangle of threads because my top thread was tangling. (I know that because I used a different colour for my bobbin)

So today I sat down and had a talk to Ellie my sewing machine.
I used a different coloured bobbin and top thread and googled my issues. My 2 main bobbins are burred!!

I was so excited so I could get into mybpoppet cause hand sewing was not cutting it with the fingers.

I completed 2 legs and 2 arms.

1 leg and 1 arm is inside out!!!!!!! There where a few words being thrown around. The fingers where perfect too. No more flipping the bird. Now I am off to work and just have to laugh.

Ha ha ha sounds like your having one of my days!!

Took my lil girl to the park today to get away from my sewing machine, and these teenage (i swear highschool girls) were picking on my 2yr old for wantin to play with em... I picked her up n went to leave and take her home to play in our yard and this blonde chick said she was gonna beat my arse rofl!! I had one of those mommy rage moments...I think I might have told her if she felt froggy to take a chance and leap....XD not sure what I said after that but she shut up and put her head down quick and went back to her friends loool!!!

Riza came home with mommy and we started sewing something random (she helped mommy pin stuffs hehe)...kids these days I'm telling ya....sheeeeeeeeeeshhhhh

HEY ALL! I'm still here. ;D I know I haven't posted in a while. I finally got the right material in right the right color. I've also been busy adapting the pattern. I've made several test dummies and with more adjustments I'm finally happy with it. ;D. Final pattern has been cut out and sewn. I also customized the eyes but they were't working out the way I thought they would. They kept popping out as I stuffed her head. I had to use super glue :o :-[ but they're in. She's still in pieces but I'm planning on having her jointed by the end of the weekend. Then I can work on making her some clothes. ;D. Can't wait!! I saw some patterns I want to try and make but I can't since I don't have a body to work with ::) I also want to try making a wig cap.
AND I can't believe someone is already to send out WOW!
I'm gonna take ALL the time available to me. I have a vision in my head of what I want her to look like and I want to try and bring her to as close as possible as I have imagined. Let's not rush now we have plenty of time.

Hehehe I know I cant help myself.... I spent probably 6 to 9 or so hours a day on this one for the last week or so since I started XD I had to wait till the baby was asleep or my hubby had his 2 days off from work to watch her so I could stick my nose as far into the sewing corner of our room as possible! I'd love to go into intimate detail of what I've done (its killllinnnngggggg meeee the suspense!!!) but that would ruin the surprise for Sharalee and that would be no fun =D (even though its totallllyyyy killing mee!!!)

I need to find something new to get into before I end up making this poor dear 40 different outfits hahahaha!!! Thoughts of my wedding is depressing me....I really might have to start on that quilt tonight just to occupy my mind!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, I can eat n eat n eat and never gain a lb (hell only weight I gained in the last 4 years was my being pregnant and the WHOLE time the dr yellin at me to gain more weight hahaha) Only thing consuming that much of my time has mostly been my wedding, which keeps getting pushed back by a few years at a time....its rather depressing tbh... been trying to 3 or 4 years now to really get that in the works and its looking like another 2 to 3 years before I'll really even get to start on it  ~le sigh....

between the immigration situation with my mom n her husband, a medical malpractice lawsuit in the works...and the whole mess with my aunt and her little baby (someone shook the poor lil dear....) and now everyone's planning on moving to a whole new state once all that business in done, there's like no mention of my wedding in there at all T.T  suppose I'll have to find plenty of crafty stuff to keep me busy

I always found it helpfull to fabric glue the seams and seams allowances (thin coat) on the fingers before turning them. And it is crucial to use as thin/sheer fabric as possible...

Spent some time in the fabric store closest to me today. A couple of maybe choices. No alova. No microsuede. The flannel was yucky. Will have to head into town tomorrow, otherwise I'll have to go online. Didn't intend to spend any $$ but nothing in my stash works for any of my possible project ideas. Oh well, hurrah!

I know how that is puamelia!! I tried one with flannel....it just didnt work out at all! The alova suede I managed to find was definitely a new material experience for me, I still prefer my cotton muslin but I might use the suede again for more of these as I make them =D I love how soft and fluffy it feels

I did my first one in a cheap thin baby blanket type flannel, not so bad. It irks me how alova slides around when you sew but you're right, soooo soft!!! I may end up using a cotton muslin. I'm looking for a thicker one, or if I can find a tight cotton knit that might be perfect for what I'm trying to do.

What do you all use for your mock-ups/test runs? I'll need to do a few test dolls.

o.O test runs? I dont think I've ever done a test run on anything.... I think one of the craftster logo's said it best..."measure twice, cut once.... meh just start cutting" XD

When it comes to poppets... I make it, sew it...stuff it....if i hate a piece of it, I make that piece all over again fresh and try again until I get what I want (I've probably got 5 to 7 arms laying around my rooms atm hahaha, plus a head attached to a body whose ears I hated....) Up until the newest poppet for sharalee I've always used plain cotton muslin (you can see that on my bunny poppet on the poppet-along...I think page like 1305 or close to it)

Or like those colored cotton quilting fabrics I made one poppet out of....even though they fray horribly I just find ways to seal up the edges and leave extra seam room so I never have to worry about it =D

Your welcome.

The calico frays alot. But I struggle to follow patterns so I look at them cut and sew it in calico and if I like it I sew it in whatever fabric I am using, because if I am spending $10 for a fat quarter I don't want to stuff it up :)

Wanna know what I used? Regular shank buttons from walmart.... seriously here's a pic

pic shows both sizes I use, front n back so you can kinda see em, hard to get a good pic cause of the flash...either to shiny or they blur without flash so best pic i can get, but i think u can see em well enough

The smaller ones I used for arms, and the bigger ones for legs....their like $0.98 a pair (ive only found em in gold but who cares about the color? lul) I've used different kinds of shank buttons, ive found as long as the shank is metal (or a hella thick plastic) that it works

@lanikins - hope you feel better soon! No worries, I haven't started either. ;)

@tenitsu - if i am working a pattern, I don't usually do a test run. In fact I've only ever scrapped one arm because I couldn't turn the fingers. Oh, and my first mermaid tail.  I'm doing a test run because I'm altering the pattern. If it works out well I may not redo, so I chose a flannel and a thick knit. I don't think alova or microsuede will work for what I want to do anyway. I think your muslin works better for drawing eyes, which looks great on your bunny.

@bam - I figured the calico would fray. I think the pattern calls for a knit fabric so it won't unravel, but I've used a woven with lots of fray check, and it's not so bad. Maybe you can just run some glue along the edges as a fray check. I like a little stretch when I stuff though. Makes for nice curves.

Need one more doing trip Friday morning. Hoping to cut and sew something Friday night. If I don't succumb to the wine after work. It's been a long week,  and it's not over yet.

I have an unstuffed head & arms and legs.

I have been using the diy fabric buttons as shanks. They have teeth and shanks. If that makes sense.

I am not happy with my arms and legs atm. I have made 8 and I can't seem to get them right. :(
I also have not started on the body.

I am doing eyes atm.

I am still here, and in the land of the living. I went to the doctor Tuesday with what I assumed was an ear infection. He gave me antibiotics, and later that night it developed into a hella bad case of strep throat. I was sick all night, and have been slowly recuperating.

On the up side, all my costuming is done, and the drugs should be working by the weekend, so I'll be all set to start poppetting!

And the tip about using fabric glue around the fingers is brilliant!! I loves me the Craftster!

Took her to walmart to find a good yarn for her hair....couldnt find what I wanted....ended up clearrrrr up at the craftplace 45min away...and had a hard time getting TO the yarn section from all the employee's gawking at her and asking half a billion questions XD not sure I wanna take the finished version up there with me i might never get to leave hahaha!!

See how tiny it is XD enough room for me to sit and stick 1 foot under the table to hit the pedal n thats it hahahaha!!!

It's a lot neater than it looks usually, the baby gets into my stuff and tries to help XD I hide my -inprogress- work ontop of her dresser where she cant get to it otherwise she pulls my pins out and tries to repin for me XD guess i'm doing it wrong rofl!

Havent actually slept in days, just hour naps here n there...i feel like a zombie! Was going to start on her quilt this week but if i dont manage to get a full 6hour stretch to sleep (without being woke up ha ha) i think her quilt is going to be waiting some more....

Cant wait to see what everyone else comes up with =D or till that box gets there, least now I dont have to worry about the baby tearing her apart or getting her dirty ^.^

This is slightly off topic, but where did you get your stands from Tenitsu??
I love the top hats btw.

My head is completed and my body is done. I am soooooo happy with it :)

I decided to redo my legs as I was not happy with the first, second, third or fourth lot. Lol. I am now happy with them!!! WOOT now to re try the arms. I have been through nearly a yard of fabric.

Nahhh I wouldnt say its offtopic at all, its poppet related XD ish

I got mine from Crafts2000 (apparently i had one of those around my area hahaha) I think they were like $1.29 a piece for the medium ones (larges hang the poppets by their necks rofl)...I think Joanns had them too but Crafts2000 was cheaper...

Also snagged a cute wooden one, I use the white metal ones just for crafting, the wooden ones are so much cuter and I use them for displaying

Stuck the top hats on them just because I guess XD

Cant wait to see what you come up with bambam! With all the trouble your having with arms n legs, you've got me entirely intrigued!

I live in Australia, we don't have a Joann's and our craft stores are over priced. Might see if I can find some online.

I think Bambam might be making me an OCTO-POPPET with all those arms and legs :o  :D

What do you all do with the bits that don't make the grade? I was thinking it would be fun to make a doll out of all the pieces that didn't work for the intended project, a FRANKENPOPPET  ;D

I never seen any doll stands in shops around here & would love to find a tutorial on how to make them out of readily available items. I did make a rather bad one for my sisters Weeping Angel out of a wooden knitting needle,a scrap of wood and some craft wire but it meant wrapping the dolls torso with the wire and then wrapping the end around the knitting needle. It's hidden under her clothing but it bugs me because I know it's an ugly mess underneath.

I just stuff it and pin that piece of stuffing in place so it doesn't move as I stuff the rest of the head. On one of my early dolls I used a bead in the nose but it shifted and now she has a small lump on her cheek  ::)

I use premium fiber fill cause its fluffy but holds its shape well, i stuff the top of the head n work my way to the nose, then i take a chopstick and smush and twist it in there till the nose stays really firm n shapeable =D then i uberstuff the head so the stuffing in the nose cant shift on me =D

I can't wait to get my package!! You need to get some sleep "Tenitsu" I hope everything works out for your family. :) Your sewing area looks well used & organized pretty good. Your 2 Poppets there look pretty cute!!

"bambam91" sorry your having dificult on your legs. Hope it works out for you!! :D

"Kookaloo_Star" that idea of putting our extra parts into one might be fun!!  ;)
It wood be so much fun if we could all get together & work on something like  making doll stands or how to do the nose, etc. it would be so much fun!! ;D
I'm of a hands on person , I need visual & tactile to get it!

What I do with the nose is put a small bead with a bit of glue on it & hold it in the nose area until it dries a bit & then stuff & stuff!!  It seams to work for me.

My poppet has attached arms and legs. I found the needle jointing really easy except I was uaing silcon thread instead of upholstery thread and I kept snapping it. So I used upholstery thread and did not have an issue!!

I have half of ________ done. Wow poppet clothes are annoyingly small and frustrating at times.

I go polymer clay every time...it makes the head take a lot longer to create, but I find that it creates a beautiful nose.  I'll admit, it really sucks to make a nose, stuff the heck out of the head, cook it, unstuff, apply eyes, and stuff again, but sometimes the end result is really worth it.

Have any of you tried air dry clay?  I use it for my noses and it works great. You can even make the stuff with cornstarch, baking soda and water. It usually takes overnight to harden but you can mold it the way you like inside the head and let it dry. You can make up a small batch and keep it in a plastic bag for noses. Works for me.

I'll be sewing away today.   ;D

hehe I wish i was good enough to have created that little teddy bear, but I snagged him as a little extra from crafts2000. I thought he'd go perfect with her cause he was adorable and his size couldnt have been better =D

As for as being evil =P i love surprising people haha. Somehow some of my cuts were bigger/smaller than others, so it doesnt fit seamlessly like I wanted but I think the wrinkles kind of add character =D (the baby helped xD couldnt posssibly tell her no after she gave me the puppy eyes and a ton of "pwease" 's hahaha)

Her sleeves to her shirt might be a little tight getting on and off, but her clothes are entirely removeable so you change her outfit any time you want =D (wait till you peak underneath if you havent already hahaha!!)

*edit* Ohh almost forgot, about the fingers! I printed the pattern out on printerpaper to start, and traced the outline with a purple sharpie onto freezer paper (so my pattern is just a tiny smidge bigger than the straight printed version), for the body, head, arms, and legs I sew just on the outside of the purple lines on the freezer paper, for the fingers, I actually sew ON the purple lines and widen the spots between the fingers so I have just a tiny bit more seam room for turning (so I dont have to worry about pulling the seams out of the fingers when turning)....their definitely tight to turn and takes a lot of wiggling, but the adorable tiny fingers is worth it =D

I can post a pic up later to show you if you want, I've got to make more arms anyhow... the first body I made I wasnt happy with to send out for the swap so its now my daughters new in-progress dolly and she needs arms anyhow =D (she's the light colored on sitting on my cutting table in the picture on the previous page, with no arms or legs hahhahaha!!)

Glamis, I usually pad everything with poly fiber fill or wool. If I use a bead for the nose, around the jointing button, etc. I like things to feel consistent. I think it got pretty pointy with the bead, but it was slippery, so sharalee's glue method would've been great. Or hot glue on it. Hm, guess you could fill it with just hot glue... I have been rolling wool into a tight felted ball, pinning it in place with a needle from the outside (think guy with a stick thru his nose), then stuffing tightly while shaping as I go. I may try some air dry clay next. Thanks everyone for the ideas!

Myrrda, feel better soon.

Tenitsu, wow! Sharalee, you lucky girl! Can't wait for more pics.

Update: I have one possible leg, need to stuff one possible arm. I am liking the twill that I am working with, feels sturdy. 2 more test limbs to go, then a decision between original or Eleanor body.

Ooh soo exciting . Our first send out. Cant' wait to see the gallery! Well I've finally finished wigging "Illiamdra" but I think she might have too much hair now. I was considering thinning some out but I think l'll leave that up for my partner to decide ;) .I also put her all together. I did have a hard time jointing her. I couldn't make her stand on her own.. As hard as I tried to tighten I just couldn't . Even with the tapestry thread it kept breaking. I 've tried placing the legs in different areas but they would become loose or wouldn't stay. I finally had to give up . I was afraid I was doing damage to the joints and material. And since I don't have anymore material and can't find any in the color I used I'm just gonna have to send a doll stand with her so she'll be able to stand with help. :)
If I happen to find more material and have time .... Maybe it's all that hair :o
I am a little disappointed with that but with more practice I figure I'll get better at it. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Couldn't make my first one stand either. He likes to sit and watch.
The first body I made was great only problem its just a different color and material.  ::) Thats what I get. But thats how we learn.
Now I can get to the fun part.. CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES... ;D ;D

CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES... ;D ;D

I use dental floss XD johnson&johnson's waxed spearmint floss (i like the scent haha)...its thick and sturdy (and thus far i've never broken it trying to joint a poppet hahaha though its killer on the fingers, leave plenty to wrap around your fingers for pulling it tight) using dental floss, all my poppets stand on their own...after adding clothes sometimes its kind of a balancing act, but naked they all stand by themselves haha!

I'll be sewing away today.   ;D

That are two totally neat ideas I have to try!

Poly clay never really worked for me. For some reason it always left a (tiny but) noticable edging that I wasn´t satsified with

hehe I wish i was good enough to have created that little teddy bear, but I snagged him as a little extra from crafts2000.

Yes the tiny Bear makes the set!  :D  I love surprizes thanks!!! :o  Yes I have looked underneath her skirt & love the netted underskirt did you use a pattern or made it up & I love the Bra & panties. The buttons & button holes are so tiny & darling. How did you do the shoes they are so cool!!  :D  The rolled up scrool Story is so cute!!

I would love a couple pics showing how you did the fingers, I kind of understand but I need visual too! I love her so much & that bag is so cool!!!  ;D  Did you use a pattern for that or your own?
Her eyes are so pretty & the bow in her hair, too cool!! I have some names to pick from for her, Cricket, Trixie, Simone (the 30's actress Simone Simon, my sister's middle name is Faith Simone & I have alway loved that name.

Thank your daughter for helping & I'd love to see her Poppet when you get it done for her.

I was wondering if I'm not stuffing enough? My hubby thought I was overstuffing. Sometimes I had to remove some poly-fill just to try and sew the seams shut. How can you tell? Do you think she might be top heavy? The arms stayed.Right now if I try to make her stand her legs spread. If I put her legs any higher she's gonna look disporportioned .Did I spell that right?
I've tried to move on to her clothes but she's screaming that something's not right and I don't know how to fix it.
Any ideas ?
Should I ignore her for now and try again? At this rate I may just have a naked screaming  dis-jointed poppet by the 20th to send out  :'(

This is just my humble opinion, but I believe that there is no such thing as too much stuffing.

angie i've stuffed so tight my fingers would be yelling at me to quit the cruel n unusual punishment XD, I agree with Lani, if you think there's to much, jam it in there a lil tighter away from teh seam and then try to close =D more stuffing you fit in there the better the shape stays when its done.... as for legs, did you try waxed dental floss when you jointed? I prefer to use it cause its stiff and doesnt slide or loosen up when your tying it off (i usually end up rejointing mine a few times before i'm happy)

And Sharalee, for the tulle pettiskirt I totally made it up XD I used a piece of heavy quilt binding for the main skirt (saved me making a circle skirt to use) and just pinned the tulle to it, a lil elastic between the binding part and some more bias tape to cover the elastic and it was cute in no time =D

The craft bag I used a pattern right off your pintrest =D, hehe told you I found something on there that had me itching to try! =D though I did end up changing some things cause I didnt have some of the stuff that pattern called for so I cheated =P

The shoes for her was the poppet boot pattern on here, minus the boot backing, and I cut the tongue out after I had the shoe together and popped in my eyelets so I could lace them up proper =D and the color was made using a sharpie fabric Staind pen  ^.^

Soon as I get around to making new arms for the baby's new doll I'll totally make sure to take pics! =D But beware the tiny button holes!! Those things gave me a horrible time haha, exept for her shoes, I pretty much made the entirety of her clothes from scratch =D I figured out how to do that by making clothes for myself n my lil girl =P

Tenitsu- No, I haven't tried it yet cuz I don't have any :-[ and I haven't gone out shopping yet BECAUSE if I do I'll probably run around trying to find that dang material and want to make a whole new body and legs  ;D
Ugh! She's staring and yelling at me ::)
I've tried to calm her by telling her nobody will notice the stand with her clothes on.
She's not falling for it.

My poppet can not stand unsupported. It (don't want to give away the gender) is a sit there and look pretty poppet. Or an I need a stand poppet! If that makes you feel better.

I ditto the stuffing comment. The tighter everything is, the more likely it is to stand.. When you say it doesn't stand do you mean you attempt to stand it and it stiffly falls over like a tree, or it collapses like a fainting person? If it's the first, maybe you need to shape the feet to be more flat, or maybe the balance is off sometimes from the weight of the hair. If it's the second, maybe it's the jointing that needs to be tighter. Sometimes I hold it down with my knee when pulling. :/

Oh my angie, she sounds bossy! >.> a thought came to mind hehe "Silence is golden but duct tape is Silver" =P Perhaps if you manage to shush her up for a bit she might like how she turns out when she's finished (though you def. might like the dental floss, will help you keep her jointed tight enough she should be able to stand) =D hopefully she quits giving you a hard time

Paumelia Yeah she sorts of faint with her legs splayed out. I think I'm gonna thin out her hair and try again. Thanks that help me understand her better. :)
Tenitsu I'm gonna go out tomorrow and get some dental floss. Is it the thin or thick one?
I don't think she means to be bossy. I think she knows she can be better and she doesn't want me to stop trying.

On the flip side my poppet just loves her. He's been hanging around some old dolls from the 50's I have and he's never seen anyone like her. ;D ::)I might have to make him a friend soon.

what I get is the Johnson & Johnson Reach* brand, its probably not the thinest kind I've seen, so probably a medium thickness tbh. My best advice when using the dental floss, make sure to make it extra long so you have plenty to wrap around your fingers /hands to pull it right (it can be kind of slippery if your hands start sweating, so having enough to wrap around helps make sure you can pull it uber tight) =D

I hope the gallery pops up soon, I need the pick me up...yesterday was horrible!
My aunt had an MDT meeting with all the people involved in investigating who abused her baby, and the baby's dad showed up late then throughout the meeting he was argumentative, not to mention rude...

Later we had a visit with teh baby for the first time in months...and found out his retina's are completely destroyed, and there's no hope of him seeing anything ever in his life...and he's apparently already showing signs of cerebral palsy...and their still keeping him in foster care..... i just wanna fry the guy that hurt my little cousin.... 5 months old and he never even had a chance at life... *headdesk*

It is the same in Australia. They do take them out in some cases (if you pay privately) but prefer not too. I get bad tonsilitis as well. I have since I was a child.

I am the biggest tom boy, when everyone finds I make dolls or cute fluffy things they are shocked. That I actually make it. Generally they make light hearted fun about me being 21 and playing with dolls, but I hav a few retorts ;)

and now I've drawn out my poppet
I'm hoping to start the actual sewing by Tuesday as tomorrow i have stuff to do with my MIL and baby bro, (who moved out on his own for the first time). i think (fingers crossed) that i have all the material (except hair) in my stash.... so i can get it mostly finished before the weekend

Wow, koo, hope you feel better soon. I was gonna say, we don't get many  tonsillectomys, but we domaybe one or two a month. It is elective after all, and not always covered.

Checking in. I don't like the first draft legs on my poppet. I still suck at fingers, grrr, not turning... Going with another version of both/each. Later. Going to move on to the head and body now before I fall behind, and because I'm frustrated. But not tonight or tomorrow. Cinco de Mayo = shrimp tacos, home made guacamole & cervezas. No I'm not drunk.yet. Tomorrow is the start of nurses week and I have to go get lei for the staff. So maybe tomorrow night. Tuesday = day of, so definitely Tuesday!

so the sweet little poppet i'm making is one tough mudder. I've broken three needles so far, and I think I'm going to have to go buy a special doll-jointing needle, which should be astronomical, knowing this town. I suppose I could theoretically unstuff her, re stuff her, and rejoint her. But I had to make her face three times, and I'm just about ready to call for a grudge match against her. I'll leave her for a day and do her hair, and then we'll discuss the jointing thing again. Hair is always a ton of fun.

 :D I knew it wasn't just me!  :D
I'm actually finding making the clothes a little more difficult.
I was hoping to be able to use an american girl pattern and not do to many adjustments but its not working out that way.
You know pick up the hem, shorten the sleeve, bring in the waist... simple. But nooo....nit,nit,nit
It's raining here in San Diego so I'm dedicating today to finishing at least the........ So wish me luck! ::)

I drew out the pattern pieces, and laid the doll ontop, and just started shrinking in 1/4th in at a time until I got it close to where I wanted it (i usually leave about 1/2in away from the actual doll with a 1/4th in seam allowance to be sure its not to snug *though i fail at that sometimes hahaha*) you should try that, sketch out the pattern you want on freezer paper so you dont ruin your actual pattern, and just start shrinking it down (i usual different color sharpies for each 1/4th in i shrink it so its noticable which lines to cut on)

That's a good idea. I usually just get the materials together, cut the patterns out and sew. Never had a problem with patterns not fitting but ... poppets have different body so I guess I have to work just a little harder :)

Just a reminder that poppets are DUE ONE WEEK FROM TODAY. As I did extend the swap at the beginning by one week I will be less inclined to grant extensions (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ;) ).

Anyways, finally figured out Sunflowers' poppets hair and bottom half of the outfit!

oh a funny note, blew up my weedeater the other day trying to cut the grass....for some reason the piece where the string winds up in (you know, the ACTUAL end that cuts the grass) overheated and melted, and blew off across the yard XD when we finally found it, it looks like someone shot a laser beam through it loool!!!

I'm so upset today! Went to tour some pre-manufactored homes for sale in my local area cause we're planning on moving if we get the money together in the next few years, and I dropped my (already broken) iphone and broke it more! Now I can only see 1/16th of the top of the screen T.T....now I gotta find a way to buy a used iphone 3GS and tear out the entire top half of the phone to fix mine >.< damn my infernal luck!! That phone makes like the best in-pocket camera for snapping shots while I'm out now I cant see what I'm snapping!!!

"Tenitsu" You are so right about those fingers!  I use a turner I have 3 different sizes, you put the plastic tube in the finger still wrong side out & then put the other wood rod on top of the finger & push it down gently & bring it all right side out & the finger should be turned do the same with the others. I hope that makes sence!

The poppet that I am making for puamelia has an accessory that has ended up being a little more difficult and time consuming than I thought it would be.  BUT...I am determined!!!  This poppet wouldn't make any sense without it.  So, I brought it to the office today in hopes that I can get a little work done while I'm on breaks and long phone calls ;D

Had some pet drama this week. Ugh. why all at once?
My golden retriever had a Grand Mal seizure the other night. The second in two years. I was hoping she wouldn't have anymore after the first but it appears that will not be the case. They're awful!!! My poor baby.
Last night my Cocker Spaniel started vomiting and uh...bad things on the other end  :-\ running a fever and such. Spent most of the night in the ER for pets. He's ok..not sure what's going on with the little squirt (no pun intended).  ;D  My pets are like children to me, sooo stressful.

SO! having three sleepless nights has got me all out of whack.  :-\ and the poppeting has been put aside for a spell but going at it this weekend!!! Hopefully, I'll be finished with Averyg poppet by the middle of next week.

I love this swap and can't wait for the gallery to fill up! Poppets make me happy!! ;D :D

So I had my parental units pick up my sewing machines to get them cleaned and tuned so I could sew like the wind on the weekend. I called my dad from work yesterday, and he told me the guy told him it would cost $200 to do both machines. I was freaking, as I only had $130 set aside for the machines based on what the guy told me originally. Dad tells me the guy said Miranda (my old 1960's beast) was worn out, and that Cheepie (the cheap plastic one) would never stay in time as the innards were all plastic. So my dad wheeled and dealed and bought me a new Janome utility model and an old school 1960 - 1970 machine. For less than $400.00. From his own allowance (as I call his walk-around money that my mom doles out to him). I'm so in love with them both. And now I can SEW LIKE THE WIND on the weekend!

the friend of my aunt that supposed to sponsor my mom's husband so he could get his visa seemingly backed out... and even if I get a job i wont make enough my tax time to sponsor him myself...and after a years time the deadline will be up for a new sponsor and she'll have to start over.... and after 4 yrs waiting and trying...he's likely to just keep my baby brother (whos been kept from us over a year now over there) and just leave.... i'm so tired of not being able to help its infuriating!! T.T and family told us to basically go to hell, so i've got no1 willing to help.... *headdesk* anyone got a rubber mallet? just mush me into the desk naoplz >.<

Everytime I sew, it freezes and flashes error error.I've checked tension, the bobbin, changed needles and no-go. Will try and finish by hand. If all else fails   :-[ superglue :(. I just might finish earlier than thought. I will take a break today and tomorrow. To all mom's out there.

I know what you mean pets being your children!                                                                                    Speaking of pets, we had to put down our precious Greyhound Schatzi last Mon. it was so hard. She had cancers tumors & was getting thinner but she ate like like a horse & then she fell down the stairs which wasn't to good, she seam to be ok but couldn't walk very well & didn't wine, she was a trooper. We miss her so, she had a good life, she was going on 15yrs. we had her for 13yrs which is very good.
Sorry I just had tell everyone she was the BEST DOG EVER!! We loved her very much!!
Thanks!

I know I'm probably annoying cause I reply so much lol

But sharalee, I know how you feel there! My mom had to put down her dog of 14yrs, he was a rescue and was saved from the highway (his previous owner cut off his tail and left him on the side of a massive highway)...Chipper was poodle and terrier mix but he was the sweetest baby ever! Even when he was in agony he never really complained and loved on everyone, it bout killed my mom to put him down to end his suffering (he barely walked...wouldnt eat...he just mostly laid there and looked sappily in random directions as by that point he was mostly deaf and blind too)... It's nice to know their in a better place and not suffering anymore....

Sorry for the hardship you had to go through in ending her suffering, but I'm sure she's grateful you loved her so much to not let her suffer and gave her such a wonderful home and loving family! <3

It is hard to live without your furbabies. My dad and I had to put our Australian cattle dog down 2 years ago. She was 19yo. She was mine and Dad's birthday present. So we had her since I was 1. She was blind, going deaf and incontinent. We used to take her to the vet every week, the vet said he would let us know when we should put her down because she was in too much pain.

My Dad still is not the same. She was his best froend for nearly 20yrs.

Any who. I am doing the final touches on my poppet. It is sitting on my desk and whenever I walk into the room I have to play with something or adjust something.

Pay day is Wednesday, I need to get a postage bag/box.

I know how that is... I had my black cat Elvis for probably 10-12yrs (i got him when he was a baby...born n raised in the pound)... he was the sweetest baby....I used to dress him up in onsies (yep the kind you put on babys) and he would just sit there n let me carry him around in a bassinet XD

He started going senile though and he'd throw up or poop in the baby's crib...and one day he came after me while I was holdin the baby, and that was the last straw... I hated giving him to someone else, but this lady cares for old cats till either their to far gone and need put down, or they eventually go on their own... I figured at least that way he could live a little longer since otherwise he was a pretty happy cat... I still miss my elvy baby though ='(

So my chaotic mother's day weekend is finally over, so now I think I'll be able to sit down and work on my poppet tonight after work.  The only problem now, is that it is going to be in the 80's here today, so I'll probably want to spend most of my time outside.  I got to finally ride my newly recovered/restored scooter in to work this a.m. so I'm a pretty happy lady ;D

my poppet clothes are coming along - I just need to make definitive choices. The great thing about keeping smallish scraps is you have a ton of variety for doll clothes - it's also the bad thing about hoarding scraps.

The thing I ordered didn't come in, so I need to decide how I'm going to make the thing.

So my chaotic mother's day weekend is finally over, so now I think I'll be able to sit down and work on my poppet tonight after work.  The only problem now, is that it is going to be in the 80's here today, so I'll probably want to spend most of my time outside.  I got to finally ride my newly recovered/restored scooter in to work this a.m. so I'm a pretty happy lady ;D

awwwwwwwww I want your weather!!! It's been miserable n cold the past few days... I want my 80's weather back!! T.T

Sorry T...
Yay for you L! Go on, step outside, the poppet won't mind. Mine/yours hasn't hehe.

But seriously, I am falling behind. Yay for day off today, and finally a weekend coming up with absolutely no plans.

I dunno, I think I prefer the planning part.... its when things dont go as planned that I go insane XD then again...maybe I just like winging it cause then there's no "plan" to fall apart hahaha =D its like a puzzle where none of the pieces fit....bust out the glue and the x-acto knife and MAKE em fit hahahahaha!!!

The pins got straightened , there was some tearing of fabric but fixable. I thought I was done and ready to send..Ugh :P

i want to say yes, the poppeting gods are good, still working things out, i have to go out and buy one last thing...
my other gods not so much. family drama even though it was my day it ended up being about my mom and dad and all their drama, feel like a brat but i got no birthday presents from anyone  :'(, feels bratty cause i just turned 30. had a fight with my man too... (today we're better again) and my baby bro is having major friend drama today, trying to decide if i stay home crafting and keep my phone nearby...or go out and see if i can do anything for him  ???
so i dunno, right now coffee is my friend and everything else can wait

If it has balancing issues, try doubling your wire or making the base a lil bigger and bringing the center of the doll support end more toward the center, might help >.>

If you've got a small round wooden base, drill a hole in the side and shove the wire into it with some gorilla glue or something of the sort =D

A belated Happy Birthday to you Jenny!

I'm happy to have Glamis' Poppet all packaged up and ready to go but I'll miss having her around standing there at the side of my sewing machine  ;) Sadly she will be sent without a stand, the one I made has wilted slowly over the last couple of days  :(
Hubby is a metal worker so I'll show him that pic  jennythor and hopefully when he's back in work he will be able to make me some  ;D Could you tell me the title/author of the book please?

GAH! I just realized that we Canadian folks won't be able to send on Monday because it is a holiday!

Therefore, I WILL be extending send-outs for EVERYONE for Tuesday, however...

I WILL EXPECT PACKAGES TO BE SENT NO LATER THAN TUESDAY.

My semester is starting to get busy now, so I don't have time to grant later extensions, wait for items to arrive, find angels if need be (*knock on wood* --> Because that seriously drags swaps out for another month or so), and whatnot.

Just got back from my two n a half hour walk with my hubby n the wee one (its nice to have family time since he's off for 2 weeks, taking a walk wont kill him physically for work the next day ha ha) and boy is my shoulder n back sore! baby got tired halfway n curled up in her sling for a nap, dunno what I'd do without that pouch sling thats for sure!!

Ooooo I had a neat thought... my next sling, I might find a way to attach a poppet to it like one of those blanket toys =D then Riza can have a toy to play with that she cant throw!!

o.O holiday?! where >.>!! Oh wait, I'm not in canada hahaha =D Hopefully its a good holiday for those of you in canada!

Just cause today is turning out to be pretty good for me =D i wanna share a recipe with everyone

For those of you who like potatoes =D

Bake 3-4 potatoes (skinned and sliced, covered with foil so they dont brown) and let cool until cold (fridge works best)

Take cooled potatoes and slice into chunks and place back into same pan you baked them in

Add 1/2 cup evaporated milk, and 1/2 cup 2% milk (or your own % prefered milk)
Add chopped onion, chopped peppers (bell, or red if you want, peppers is totally optional)
Crushed parsley, paprika, salt and pepper to taste
Add crusted breadcrumbs (I toast regular bread, let it cool n dry a few min. and run it through the food processor)
Add in shredded sharp cheddar cheese and stir till mixed good

Bake for 30min @ 350 degrees

Top with crumbled/or tiny sliced bacon and chopped onion if you wish and enjoy!

=D its totallllly yummy =^.^=

My mom is seriously claustrophobic and couldnt watch me stick her all curled up in that box I send her in to Sharalee XD she cringed and wailed at me the whole time that a bigger 'roomier, not so dark and tiny box' would be better....haha even wanted to stick one of those battery operated candles in there so she wasnt shipped in the dark xD

Bambam you do realise I'm going to be checking the tracking number every flipping day now don't you?  ::) a little bit excited to say the least  ;D

I've started making myself a doll with a modified Poppet pattern. Rocky from RHPS <3

I am checking in to say Happy Holiday everyone!

I am uber tired having stayed up till early morn, but it is almost done. Need to finish costuming tonight. I love the head, but it's not done yet.

Prop making may run all day tomorrow but it's my day off and I am still aiming to mail by end of tomorrow. Flat rate box will be my friend as the prop may take up major space. oh, hm, wait, might not fit.... grrr. I may need to cut a custom box. :p

Ok, off to the doctor for some shots, then on to work this afternoon.

;D Just sent out to Illiamdra. That poppet has gone thru hell and back with me. ::). Remember her joints went wonky, well they did it again ::).I don't know what it was. Everytime I tried to fix something on her something else went wrong. That poppet 's got some battle scars.  She still can't stand so rather than cause any more damage by trying to "fix her" I sent her out with a stand and an extra body if Illiamdra wanted to try and make her stand on her own. She's all set. I was just afraid if I keep trying I would mess the body or legs up Big Time. and in all the excitement I forgot to take pictures before sending her off. ::) ::) I hope Illiamdra likes her. She's technically my first poppet. I now know what I can and can't work with and can do. I have alot of ideas but lack the know-how to bring it to life.
Still working on that :) and hope to have more opportunities to learn

It's kinda like the box that I sent to puamelia a few years ago, which she sent back to me, which I then sent to someone else (amigurl, I believe)- Sisterhood of the Traveling Poppet Boxes! ;)

It's kinda like the box that I sent to puamelia a few years ago, which she sent back to me, which I then sent to someone else (amigurl, I believe)- Sisterhood of the Traveling Poppet Boxes! ;)

YAY for being green!!!!

I have recently discovered that soda boxes are the BEST for shipping poppets...they fit like a glove!!!  I don't drink soda, but my mom buys 12-packs constantly, so I have to make a trip to her house to pack up puamelia's poppet ;D

Congrats Tenitsu!

Yay for re-used boxes! I think I have one somewhere...

I have had a roadbump in this poppet-making business....  And she is so sad with the thought of being late. Ah well. She can't very well go the way she is at the moment. Off to do repairs, hoping I don't need an extension. :(

Few dozen phone calls later and a lady who pitied me XD I got the only available appointment with the judge that isn't in august hahaha!! Anyone got an idea's on what fabric print I should look for for my yukata for tomorrow? I'm cheating and using walmart's $1/yd clearance but I'm not sure what I wanna look for!

Oh no Puamelia, I hope everything goes alright!! I can not wait to see what you make!!

Go Lanikins, with the recycling. I keep my swap boxes and try to re use them too. They where all too small for my poppet :/ My partner thinks I am a crazy box hoarder.

Hey Ladies,

i normally don't give allot of my own personal life info out on here but the past few days have become a sort of special circumstants.  I have my LPN and i live in Missouri, 2 years ago after the devastating tornado hit Joplin a town only a few hours drive from me, were people i knew lived, I chose to register as a first responder with the red cross.

Long story short i have been in Moore for the past 2 days with search and rescue. Angilou i was hoping to get your permission to pass my poppet along to another once it arrives, I know you worked supper hard and made her Just for me. but i have met some amazing little children who don't have any dolls any more..

im posting this here because i would like to try and organize a toy drive for the kids of Moore, and i figured you ladies would be the best chance to gather volunteers. I'm in the process of getting a mailing address to send things to. I have no idea how to get some help from Craftster to see about pushing this project sight wide.
it might sound silly to send toys after families have lost so much but so many open hearts have donated so many things yet no one has thought of the comfort a special friend can have on a traumatized child.
i also don't see why more practical things like blankets or cloths could not be sent as well.

if any of you would like to participate please send me a PM i will be posting a thread on this as soon as i have a place were Items can be sent.

I often find that families in disaster areas are grateful for something to cheer up their children, while it doesnt fix their predicaments, as a parent myself, I'd sure be happy to recieve a toy for my daughter and see a smile on her face...it gives people the strength to keep carrying on!

If I get a little extra funds I'll definitely make a few dolls to send the children, kids deserve to enjoy life rather than worry about things in life, especially as such young ages, if a toy helps then by all means make toys! =D I applaud you for your work Illiamdra!

Illiamdra, you can start charitable threads here:

I can only afford to mail internationally once a month but in July I could send something. I think Ghillies Cupcake dolls would be perfect for this.

I have to agree there! Their simple and easily customizeable for boys or girls! And they dont use as much fabric as the poppets do so we could make a few more (and since their also a little lighter, shipping wouldnt be as bad either!) I think this payday I might have to stock up on my unbleached cotton muslin, since its cheaper than alova suede, and it does make very nice dolls =D

Illiamdra I know I said earlier that I would love for her to stay with you but that was unfair of me to say. She's your poppet and once she's in your hands she's yours to do as you will.If you would like to donate/gift her to another I'm okay with that. You don't need my permission but you do have my blessing :)
And yeah I think Ghillies cupcakes would be faster and easier to make and send.

It would be cool if we could make blank cupcake dolls (like I guess you could call em finished but naked XD) and have a bundle of clothes for the kids to have a choice in customizing their doll a bit, but with the circumstances that might make things a little hard.... but we could probably make say 2 outfits for the dolls, one they will wear during shipping, the other can be in a tiny bag-like backpack or something each doll can "take with on their travel" with a change of clothes =D

I've done that with some of my daughter's dolls, a pair of "summer clothes" and a pair of "winter clothes", and even though she's only 2yrs old, she loves changing their outfits! I figure if the outfits are kinda plain and not overly complicated, it would give the kids a little extra, and they could even trade outfits and make friends with other kids if they wanted... =D (i know, i like making things complicated ha ha)

Thanks everyone for the support.

Quick check-in. Life=busy. Worked 6a-midnite. Poppet had 2 limbs redone. Finishing with costuming and accessory. Accessory was more involved than I thought. :p Lani you are worth it.

Illiamdra, I will gladly send you a Cupcake if timing is right. Please let us know what you work out.

Kids dropped off at school. Going back to bed.

On my phone the spell check does not come up. On my work computer we have a spell check automatically on the browser.

On my partners computer he has an automatic spell check on the mouse?? (I don't know what it is called or how to describe it)

Does that answer your question Glamis?

"llliamdra"  That's so cool you are giving to the children from Moore City. It's so heart breaking to see it all on TV. This way we can all do something. I will try & get a doll maybe a cupcake one not sure. There's a cute Bear one that's pretty easy to make too! Just a idea!  I'll try & find the site & put a link on here if I can find it.  OK here's a few!!

http://www.craftelf.com/teddy-bear-sewing-pattern.html

also there is Dollu Hugs  It's design for charity.

http://dollmakersjourney.com/charitycorner.html

http://www.spreadawareness.info/Images/saliacarebear.pdf

http://www.patchworkposse.com/blog/2009/04/summer-travelers-tutorial/

This little bear is really cute he's fleece on the back & fabric on the front & whatever how you want to make him. You could leave off the ears & make a doll instead of a bear. His legs are stuff & body & sewed on the outside but his arms & ears are not stuff. I think he cute & easy. I can't seam to find it or it's not available, but I have it saved in my pics, but I can get it in here. I have tried but not working. Just use a another pattern & change it some.

You are right Ladies there was a spell check, I use it a lot! I just thought I just had my computer fix & I've had to reprogram back a lot of things, that maybe that was why. I have one when I right click but it doesn't always work.

"Tenitsu" What do you use when you draw eyes on or the lashes, felt tip markers or something special? I was going to try to draw them on. But I have never drawn on fabric before. I don't know if it'll work but I'll practice some before I actually do it. So don't expect to much LOL!!

I use Sharpie Stained fabric markers you can find em at walmart or on their website http://www.sharpie.com/enUS/Pages/stained-by-sharpie.aspx  (helps to know what they look like =D) I've seen them at Joanns too, so i'd suspect other places have them. The black one I use for eyeliner, the eye outline (but you have to draw with a REALLY light touch, the ink spreads easy) and for the pupils....I use the other colors for well thats obvious... for the whites of the eyes so they really stand out on the fabric I use Painters* opaque paint markers Elmer's make them and I got those at walmart too, http://www.elmers.com/product/detail/Painters%20Fine%20Tip%20Various?filterPath=paint-markers  (so you can see what they look like again)

If you do the eyes that way, I recomend drawing the eye outline first, color the whites in 2nd, then work the rest of the way (give each color about 5min or so to dry before going to a new color!) I can draw out an example if you need it!

definitely be careful with the sharpies, the ink flows so easily and it doesnt require much touch to the fabric to get the proper transfer, I would definitely play with a scrap piece to get the feel for it (it does bleed past your lines on certain types of fabric! if your touch is light enough you wont notice it though!)

I have the pigma micron pens too Bambam, they're great and don't run at all. I always worry about the ink spreading and ruining an almost finished face.

Yes I am practicng first. It's coming along, still doing some more practice eyes she's coming together slowly but surley!! Sure if you want to draw a sample I would appreciate it, I'm a copier, I need visuals. Thanks "Tenitsu" for the info.

Sure, I'll post up a sample here in about an hour-ish, just gotta get a minute to sit down its kinda hellacious today!

Edit* Here's the photo, took with my broken iphone so hope it turned out good haha!

Just incase you cant read my notes
Step 1: Draw eye outline and let dry 5min (or till dry to touch *ie. no ink on finger if pressed gently*)

Step 2 Draw/color in whites of eyes (see dotted line on photo) and let dry completely (if using elmer's paint pens it takes longer than the sharpie to dry)

Step 3: Draw in actual eye design and let dry completely

Step 4, color in eye's as desired and let dry =D and done!

You should end up with something like this =D

Facial view (try to get eyes evenly spaced and as close to the first eye drawn as possible)

Close-up of eye detail

Also as a personal hint, from experience, try not to make the eye itself to small inside the eyeoutline otherwise you get this shocked/surprised look XD (compare the drawn sketch I made in 1min to the poppet picture where I took my time, I'm sure you can see the difference haha!!)

Ooh those eyes look fab Tenitsu  ;D

A tip I read on a dollmaking blog was that if you are right handed then draw the left eye first as it will be easier to match it when you draw on the right eye. I haven't tried it myself as I always forget and draw the right one first  ::)

According to the Aus post website I've received from Bambam today but as its just turned midnight I don't think they will be dropping it off tonight  :( Fingers crossed for tomorrow!!

I've had YEARS of practice drawing anime characters, after a while their faces are just second nature xD I actually was supposed to go to college for anime (i wanted to work in japan doing manga and animation), but the college I wanted to go to cancled their arts program for preformance arts only (there went 4yrs of schoolwork done in less than 2yrs for nothin meh!)

I love how expressive anime eyes can be, oh and Sharalee, if you need more examples on anime eye styles just google Anime Eye Images xD and you'll get TONS!! Or if your making a certain character, look up the name of the character (for example google "Maka from SoulEater" or "Isanami from Brave 10" ) and you'll get plenty of images with that particular character for references =D Thats how I'm making my cosplay outfit for Isanami for the upcoming anime convention I might get to go to =D

Thanks "Tenitsu" your eyes are really neat! That helps to see it.  Well it's coming out OK I guess but not as good as yours.
Wow that's to bad you didn't get to finish your Schooling. Maybe you can take it somewhere else.

OK back to the Poppet.  ;)

Each person makes their own things unique =D I cant wait to see how good yours look! Glad my quick sketching (and thankfully my half finished poppet) could be of use =^.^= Doing the whites of the eyes before doing the actual eye itself helps tons because then you dont have to color in the white highlights of the eyes itself, when you could just color around them =D

So, ummmmmmm.... Those eyes are amazing.

Also, SUNFLOWER GOT HER POPPET TODAY. Errrrr... According to the DC# she has, that is! I can't wait to see what she thinks- it was really hard to let that poppet go!

I just got back from the mailbox and low and behold there was a little forest spirit in there! She was really happy to get out of that box but she's a little grumpy so pictures and posting will happen tomorrow.
Thank you Averyg!  I love her!  I'll see if I can get some good pictures, but it's really overcast and dark. But definitely tomorrow!

do you like her? after seeing some of the others i got worried :(
looking forward to mail on my end :)

mostly i make stuffed animals from my own patterns so following someone elses and trying to make something 'specific' was harder for me then i thought :/

I sent lanikin's poppet out today. Looks like we'll both receive on Saturday.

I'm torn on this one. Like the last doll I made, I so loved it and loved making it, but for sure this one was truly meant only for lanikins. Definitely a demanding one, she did not let up on me til she had everything she wanted. Actually she wasn't fully satisfied so I had to send her off with goodies. Sigh. Well, off to bed, tomorrow is my long shift.  G'nite!!

Hi everyone
I've been MIA since thursday. My whole family decided to go camping this weekend and of course NO SERVICE for anybody. Not a single phone was able to get incoming/outgoing servive. Yeah there everywhere. BULL.
Well on the way home got messages galore and one had a picture of a BOX!!  YEAH! But was so tired we all just have enough strength to take main items in and a HOT shower.

Just had my first GOOD cup of coffee in a while . Let me tell you, cowboy coffee not all it's hyped up to be  ::) SO I ripped into my package and lo and behold One of my fav character from my fav book series Acheron. I took pictures but I'm unable to upload from my cameraphone. (I cant' find camera, GOSH I hope I didn't leave it behind.Just got it for X-mas.) I have to wait for my son to come home from work. He's a computer wiz well compared to me at least :D

He is smaller but she got him down. He's an Atlantean God and 11,000 years old.Black hair with red streaks. Black long coat with his emblem hand painted on back. He's got two "tatoos". A dragon on his chest that's supposed to represent SIMI his adopted "daughter".And on his back a double bow given to him by the goddess Artemis. LONG STORY.
She also sent me a Mini fascinator hat in dark purple.LOVE
Also a long hair piece black and red for me to wear. Had to hide from my cats baby and mocco. As soon as it came of the box they both jumped on it. AHH. It matches Acheron hair last but not least Sweet Tarts Gummies!

For her first poppet she did have problems with his joint but I can fix.She also sent a small stand. But I think if she'd have stuffed his legs more he might have been able to stand on his own and not needed it. I'm falling in love with him with every moment that goes by.
THANK YOU ILLIAMDRA. He's going right there next my test poppet "Ralphie" on my little crafting table ;D. They've become buddies already.
So as soon as my son gets home I will upload pictures in gallery.
Thank you Averyg for organizing the mini swap. I'm waiting for the next one already ;D ;D

Wow angielou, sounds really cool! I'll go over and check the gallery next.

Avery, my status looks right. Both lanikins and I were supposed to receive yesterday but I have been too busy to get to the po box. I'll go tomorrow.

The super great thing about being too busy is that one of the things I did this weekend was a mommy's night out - first time since Feb! My husby was both my sitter and my chauffeur... so sweet. Anyways, back to studying. Happy weekend everyone!

Woohoo camping! Awesome except when in the middle of a swap. Not the best place to craft OR have coffee. Or so I thought. angielou1, I use the camp coffee pot only to heat the water in the coals, then I go for a long walk cuz it takes forever, then I brew my coffee in a French Press. Best camp coffee I ever had lol! OH! and I bring my to-go travel mug to keep it hot. I do not like those tin cups that came with the coffee pot haha!

Oh, and i do knit. Just wash your hands after tending fires, I never did figure out how to get the smoke smell out lol! ;)

Color safe bleach! depending on the size of the item you need to get the smell out of, 1/3 color safe bleach, 2/3 water...if its like a whole outfit, toss it in the water or a tub of water and pour the color safe bleach ontop, let it just sink down in ontop of the clothes and let it soak for like an hour or so (you can take a stick or so and turn and swish it around a bit to make sure everything gets coated), then just wash it like normal... I've found it works great

Most of my family is allergic to wood smoke (my mom especially) and we've got ALOT of wood burning stoves and people who burn wood for camp fires, grills, ect... so we often come home from walks wreaking of smoke...not found anything that beats color safe bleach atm (atleast that doesnt smell like vinegar!! and i HATE the smell of vinegar!)
