I get to post pictures first? This doesn't feel right to me... I'm always a last minute sort of person no matter how hard I try. Enough about me, on to the loveliness from StickerChic87!

Here's everything all together. She really matched my color loves well! I received not one, but 2 books off my list. I have read and reread pride and prejudice over and over but never had a copy of sense and sensibility or Northanger Abbey.

Perfect little embroidered bookmark

Fabric covered journal with one of my favorite inspirational quotes from my pinterest

The best and most amazing bag! I love the fabrics and colors and it is sturdy enough to handle library books!

Thank you Beth!!!

OH I love this package, StickerChic87!!  The colors you used for the bag and journal cover and bookmark are wonderful (I'm a lover of blue and purple too...and I see some of the beautiful journal cover fabric in the bag...) How did you get the quotation onto the journal cover--the writing looks so perfect?

Thanks guys! Im so glad you like everything Averia! I love that bag so much that I want to make one for myself. Those books were in my giveaway pile (I only read each once) because my husband got me one book with all her novels in it so we were getting rid of copies. So they were practically brand new-which worked out perfect!!

The quote on the journal cover- I just typed it into Wordpad in the font, size, and format that I wanted (I actually did it in one size font, entered down a bit, then pasted it again with the font bigger so I could pick which size I liked better). I took the fabric I wanted to print it on and ironed it on to freezer paper for stability. I loaded it into my printer (making sure it would print in the fabric, not freezer paper) and hit print. I was nervous that the fabric would get jammed, but it fed through fine with the freezer paper. Then you can just peel the paper off the fabric and sew/do what you please with it. :)

I finally received by package from England!  Noodle-bug sent me some AMAZING goodies and she spoiled my like crazy!  Here's the whole package:

Not one, but TWO books that I can't wait to start reading:  My Sister's Keeper, and Buried in Books A Reader's Anthology. I don't know which one to start first!  And there is a package of gummy candy (my favorite) in the shape of pig faces!  Too cute! I love to snack while I read, so I'm all set!

Below is a close up of the book marks--yes, plural, noodle-bug sent me a total of SIX book marks!  (No more crumpled dollar bills holding my place!)  Two of them are from a bookstore (presumably where the books were purchased) and the other four are hand-made:
--a beautiful origami triangle that goes over the corner of the page
--an incredible origami crane folded from the end of the bookmark--WOW, I've never seen anything like this, it's so cool!
--a pretty button on the end of a big paper clip
--a truly wonderful piece of embroidery in shades of blue and purple, which I LOVE; the design is quite involved and must have taken some time, it's just marvelous!

Vikki, you are an amazing bookmark-maker!

She also made me some marvelous wall art that I can't wait to hang up!  These are small canvases that she has collaged with book pages; they feature my favorite theme of hearts, and they have all my favorite colors in them.  Aren't they beautiful?  I'm just astounded by them!  It's almost too much! Thank you so very much, Vikki; I love every single thing you sent, and I appreciate all the time and care you put in to making this package for me.

I'm afraid the books themselves came from a bargain warehouse shop, but foyles is my favourite place to wander and dream and get ideas for what I want to read - I hardly ever buy new books but I always grab a stash of their bookmarks as I love the pictures. And the origami bookmarks are both deigns i stole form a friend of mine - she does phenomenal origami and taught me a couple of simple pieces like this. The embroiderer one was just an excuse to try out some variegated thread - it went a bit wrong at the bottom, the colour doesn't flow along the line  :( but once i saw the colours I knew I had to do something zentangle-eque :)
and percy pigs are everyone's favourite here - they have become really popular the last couple of years, I love them so much I can eat a whole bag in one sitting- so i know I had to get you some when i saw you like gummies too  ;D
i am just so relieved you like everything!

Oh, 'Buried in books' is a collection of quotes about books and readers - not really something to read in one sitting - I have a similar collection next to my kettle, it's nice to flick through while i wait to make tea. I hope you enjoy both the books, I had so much fun putting your parcel together - Thankyou for being such a cool partner and awesome host

Hey guys, I received from Lindyv321 yesterday!  ;D

She sent me The Long Walk by Stephen King (under the pen name Richard Bachman). The summary states: "On the first day of May, 100 teenage boys meet for a race known as 'The Long Walk.' If you break the rules, you get three warnings. If you exceed your limit, what happens is absolutely terrifying..." Kind of like an early Hunger Games, but less about manufacturing conflicts between characters as far as the game makers are concerned. I am very excited to read it.

I am a Hufflepuff, so she sent me this awesome shirt =)

She also made me a "Reading is sexy" hoopla =)

And a Hufflepuff themed bookmark!

Thank you again for everything Lindy!

Fantastic package, Lindy!  I agree, the book sounds intriguing, I will have to get it now!  The shirt is great, is that a freezer paper stencil?  And the hoop--wow, great silhouette!  That's a beautiful bookmark too.

The shirt was done with a freezer paper stencil and the hoop was made using felt for the silhouette and stamps for the words.  I am so glad you liked your package RougeRaven!  I chose that book since it was one I have read myself.

The second side of the bookmark:

Detail of the sparklies and flowers of bookmark:

The paper is handmade, but not by me.

The pendant I stamped for her:

And the artwork I made for her:

Watercolor, gouache, ink.  Inspired by her wists.   Matted in purple sueded mat.

And a different shot to try and show off the silver paint I used.   :)

Post by: greybird on February 21, 2013 06:30:41 PM
Thank you, Leslieshappyheart!   :)

The quotes are not related to the new book, but are some of Pioneer9's favorite quotes.

Quotes:
"Forever is composed of nows." (Paper Towns by John Green)
"It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart." (Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins)
"I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant." (The Book Thief by Markus Zusak)

And for those who haven't read it, the "Real or not Real" quote is from the Hunger Games series.   :)

The package I sent to theatreorchid is MIA, so I am recrafting.

I sent two books, two book marks and this:

It reads:
Kingdoms need their castles
just as dragons mighty scales
without a quest or vision,
there's no magic in the tales
I savor deeds of wonder,
told in prose or told in rhyme
May I never grow too old
to treasure "Once upon a time"

For her future craft room/library. :D

I didn't take pictures of the books I bought. (Confessions of a Shopaholic and another book by her as a bonus... I forget the title). And I made a bookmark with a dangle book and beads and another stretchy one, but I didn't take pictures of those either.

I am still hopeful it will show up, even if it's not until after my new package arrives.  :D

now im even more stoked to read "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"...cause she also knitted me a terrific bookmark to match the cloth on the cover of the book. i did my best, jfer, to show the stitches on the bookmark:

and a SLEW of stitched paper--Bible verse--gift tags!

here's one up close. i have a congregation full of friends that would LOOOVE these!

im thinking these would be pretty great book marks themselves.

well the hoop that she made me just plain rocks. i am not only a news junkie but i am specifically a NYT junkie and she joined that with stitching of my three favorite fuzzies: tut, kish and nash:

jfer, i am so excited and so grateful! thank you so much for this fantastic package. im awesomely amazed!

Here is a picture of all my goodies together:

The books she chose were perfect: Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard and Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now by Dr. Deuss. The kids I work with think every book is written by Dr. Seuss, so they will love this.

susanb made me a beautiful book bag and two stunning bookmarks, one craft themed and one love themed. Totally perfect!

She also sent me a really lovely pen and a magnifying glass bookmark!

Well, my package to when_i'm_sixty4 shows on tracking that it arrived on Tuesday, but I have yet to hear from her whether she received or not.  I do know that she had a computer keyboard snafu, which may be preventing her from updating, so I am going to post pictures of what I sent, but I will be poised to re-craft if we had yet another USPS casualty.  :/

I chose Emma by Jane Austen as her book.  I also found this awesome "choose your adventure" style book called Lost in Austen, so included that as well.  The made bookmark is crocheted and loops through the book and holds a pen or highlighter for annotating as you go, and I happened to stumble across the awesome Jane Austen bookmark in my junk drawer, so included that, as well.  It's leather.

Up-close image of the bookmark.  I used an Owl button, as we both share a love of owls, so I felt I had to work one in there somehow!

Then, the Emma-inspired craft:

when_i'm_sixty4 works in a library, and I know that they are often overly air-conditioned, so I made these sweet Victorian-ish fingerless gloves that I thought looked like something Emma would wear.

Finally, the reading-inspired craft:

Like I said, she works in a library, but in the Children's section (best job ever, by the way!), so I made her this "book bag" with some awesome Dr. Seuss fabric I stumbled across in my stash, and included the fun Matryoshka silverware, as I thought she could use the bag to bring her lunch to work, and she loves nesting dolls.

I hope the package really did arrive, and that when_i'm_sixty4 is just having life happen right now, so she's delayed in posting.  Otherwise, I have enough yarn for another pair of gloves and bookmark and some more Seussy fabric for another bag.   ;)

Sarahelise, that is a fantastic package!  I'm swooning over that crocheted bookmark--it is so cool that it really fastens to the book AND holds a pencil or highlighter AND it's super cute!  I'm also adoring the fingerless gloves (such a beautiful color) and the Dr. Seuss bag and cute cutlery.  I hope your partner did get her package, this is too nice to miss!

Well I received on Friday but haven't had a chance to post my wonderful package until just now.

Fancybutch sent me a copy of 1984 by Orwell, a book that I've been wanting to read for a long time but have just never gotten around to.  I'm super excited about it!

The bookmark and the item that she sent along with the book are both themed around the book itself which I love.

First the bookmark which includes one of her favourite quotes.

Front:

Back:

and finally she sent along this sweet blackwork hoop.  She's told me that the image of "Room 101" is something very significant to the book and I'm very interested to find out more about it.

Now that I've received I just want to say thanks to the organizers because I think you've paired us up pretty well!

Thanks again fancybutch!!!

Fancybutch--I love the bookmark so much!  The different sized numbers and smudges, and printed background, all look industrial and cool.  It's been so long since I read 1984 that I don't remember what is significant about room 101, but the cross stitch is cool anyway!  I will have to re-read this book.

Woo, have I ever fallen behind!

That castle cross stitch is gorgeous. Hopefully it will still show up! I'm not losing faith just yet!

Awesome package as always, Susan! (I had the chance to swap with Susan on the junkerjane doll swap recently!)

Super neat pen holder bookmark, love it!

Lastly, fancybutch, all the items you sent were just great! I live with pcollins so I got to see them firsthand. I adore the bookmark, and you'll be happy to know that your blackwork is the start to our hoopla wall! :)

Yay, I'm so glad you liked the package pcollins (and you too rachel.in.rainbows) and that I am the start to your hoopla wall!

I liked the cover on this version of the book too, since the eye was also my pattern for the blackwork background.

As for room 101 ...

"You asked me once,' said O'Brien, 'what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world."

Great quote! It was funny, when Patrick opened the package, and I saw the hoopla, I went "OOOOO-OOO" in a very knowing tone of voice. Because room 101 is the worst thing in the world.

Okay guys. Sit down for this one. I seriously received THE most amazing package. I am still reeling. Titaniumhip, you figured me out TO A TEA (deliberate spelling!).

I was sent a copy of Alice in Wonderland. Now, the original Alice has beautiful drawings by John Tenniel. Which is great! I love them! But Titaniumhip one-upped ol' JT and sent me a version with illustrations by Ralph Steadman. Steadman also did the art for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and I have admired his particular style for a long time.

For the bookmark, I received the cutest little teacup! The teapot charm on the end is actually quite weighty, so it hangs wonderfully! This is so simple and sweet!

BUT LASTLY. A short backstory. I have seriously always loved Matryoshka Dolls (it was my first swap here on Craftster!) and I've always aspired to own my own set! Titaniumhip has fulfilled my desire! And she has done so with the most charming, beautiful, custom set of Alice M-dolls! Get ready to be jealous!

Titaniumhip, if you even like what I sent you HALF as much, then I will breathe a sigh of relief! Swap anxiety has returned now that such an amazing package is sitting in my living room. Thank you sooo much for swapping!

ok Titaniumhip, you are always one of the most amazing crafter/swappers around and you have outdone yourself.  That copy of the book is great and thoughtful, the bookmark sweet, but the matryoshka Alice set is unbelievable!  Your painting is swo great, love the style! that set is a true treasure.  I hit 'it rocks' right away.

Sooper fun swap!

I LOVE my items received from danlynn.  The bookbag, bookmark and bag are a beautiful set.  I can't believe that the book bag is a "Medium" item - it certainly should be a "Large", imho.

I can't wait to start the book and I will bring the bag to work tomorrow, to show it off to my colleagues.

Thank you so much - I can tell that you put a great deal of thought and effort into my items and I feel blessed.

Keep on craftin'!
Jennifer

I was thrilled to get a great package from pcollins yesterday.  He sent me Farenheit 451, which is fabulous.  I'm a big scifi fan but skipped some of the classics because I've always focused on scifi by women, and I definitely wanted to go back and read this.

for the Bookmark he made this great robot (I love robots!!!) from cut paper shapes, very clever and well done, I really like it.

and for the main item this very cool framed art piece of cut paper.  The picture does not do it justice, it's layers for perspective with great colour and I love the figure done with newspaper or book pages.  It captures the look of the cover perfectly.  Pcollins said this was a first try at a new technique and I would say it turned out fabulous, definitely do more!  This is already up on my wall.

Thanks so much for everything pcollins, it was great swapping with you!

Noodle_bug has received this package that I sent her, but has been unable to post pictures.

I started to read Northanger Abbey a couple of years ago, but didn't get very far before I stopped...I found all the different characters a bit confusing.  When I saw it on her list I thought it would be a good time to give it another try, and when I found the book in graphic novel form I knew I had to get it too! I really enjoyed the graphic novel, because not only was it a condensed version of the book, but seeing the drawings of the different characters helped me keep track of everyone.

The crafted items are based on things on noodle_bug's Pinterest.  I bought a used book of Shakespeare for $1 and turned it into a sewing box, using balsa wood and scrapbook paper.  I've never done anything like this before (I'm usually a fabric kind of girl) and I am very happy with how it turned out! The outside of the cover is untouched, so if it was on a bookshelf it would still look like a book (and since she lives in London, the name "Shakespeare" on the spine is perfect!).

Below you can see the front and back of the bookmark.  It too was made from a $1 book that was in such bad shape I didn't mind cutting it up to use the spine for a bookmark.

StickerChic, this is the best picture I have of the needlebook.  I wanted it to look like a real book, so I stamped the "title" on the spine and on the front.

The directions for the sewing box can be found online HERE (http://melaniefalickbooks-stc.squarespace.com/storage/RepurposedLibrary_Pattern.pdf).  I started out thinking I would make a book safe, in which you basically hollow out a book to make a storage space inside; but this is different in that you remove the pages entirely, and use only the cover of the book. It was actually rather easy to make: cover the inside of the book cover with scrapbook paper, then measure and cut balsa wood to form the box. It's held together with hot glue. The balsa wood cuts easily with a craft knift (X-acto).  Then just cover the outside of the balsa wood with scrapbooking paper, and paint the top edges with acrylic paint.

Lesley, I am so sorry not to have posted pictures (I just came online to finally do it now I am reunited with a proper computer instead of a smart phone, but you beat me - and you're pictures are much superior to mine anyway!). I hope you don't think it's from a lack of appreciation becasue it certainly isn't! (Just so everyone knows and doesn't think I'm a complete flake, I had to take an unexpected trip to my parents just after receiving)
I love my parcel, it is all so beautiful. The illustrations in the graphic novel are really cool - there is something a bit 20s about them, all this sort of black outlining. And the crafting - well, it's just gorgeous! The book you used (shakespeare) is perfect for me since I work in theatre, and the fabric you choose for the pin cushion & needlebook set off the lining and wood really nicely, they add a lovely cozy finish! Thank you so much

oh, I meant to ask, did you make the little birdie & mushroom pins yourself too? they are so cute!!

https://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/medium/139259_24Feb13_IMG_2414.JPG

I chose Emma by Jane Austen as her book.  I also found this awesome "choose your adventure" style book called Lost in Austen, so included that as well.  The made bookmark is crocheted and loops through the book and holds a pen or highlighter for annotating as you go, and I happened to stumble across the awesome Jane Austen bookmark in my junk drawer, so included that, as well.  It's leather.
https://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/medium/139259_24Feb13_IMG_2372.JPG

Up-close image of the bookmark.  I used an Owl button, as we both share a love of owls, so I felt I had to work one in there somehow!

Then, the Emma-inspired craft:
https://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/medium/139259_24Feb13_IMG_2367.JPG

when_i'm_sixty4 works in a library, and I know that they are often overly air-conditioned, so I made these sweet Victorian-ish fingerless gloves that I thought looked like something Emma would wear.

Finally, the reading-inspired craft:

https://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/medium/139259_24Feb13_IMG_2416.JPG

Like I said, she works in a library, but in the Children's section (best job ever, by the way!), so I made her this "book bag" with some awesome Dr. Seuss fabric I stumbled across in my stash, and included the fun Matryoshka silverware, as I thought she could use the bag to bring her lunch to work, and she loves nesting dolls.

I hope the package really did arrive, and that when_i'm_sixty4 is just having life happen right now, so she's delayed in posting.  Otherwise, I have enough yarn for another pair of gloves and bookmark and some more Seussy fabric for another bag.   ;)

Sarah- you absolutely SPOILED me!! I love everything you sent and I fully admit there was much squealing and giggling. My husband was so impressed he turned away from his WoW to give it all a closer look (a major accomplishment when your hubby is a gamer!  ;))

I'm looking forward to reading my books and putting all the other items to good use (I'm always writing myself notes so those goodies will be especially helpful!). I'm even looking forward to my next little "owie" so I can use my Jane Austen band-aids!  ;D

Thank you for posting photos for me- I only have my phone to take pictures with and I'm kinda new at this smartphone thing (seriously, I just upgraded a month ago. I'm technologically impaired). I would have figured it out eventually, but they wouldn't have done justice to your awesome skills!

And I can't thank you enough for understanding that things have been a little crazy for me lately and being so patient. You are a saint!

So many great things in this gallery...!  And now I am going to add more.

I was such a jerk and picked all new books for rachel.in.rainbows but she accepted it and ran with it...so hats off to her!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pride & Prejudice, but obviously have it.  I love reading allsorts of other takes on the book and on my list was a book written from Darcy's perspective.  I am so happy she picked that one...that meant I got an Austen inspired package!

First up the Book!

I'm sure it will be smutty and awesome.

Look at this awesome stiched bookmark, with a quote that sums up this swap perfectly!

And the pressie was a notebook cover with extra notebook.  WOW I love this so much!  What is funny is I almost went this route for her but at the last minute changed my mind...

Look at the fine detail

Thank you so much RiR!  LOOOOOOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

A Hitchhiker's Guide inspired bookmark and a Dr. Teeth(my favorite muppet!) bookmark.

A very bookmark appropriate quote from Dr. Teeth

A beautifully crocheted mug rug in some of my favorite colors

An AWESOME Doctor Who mug rug! I love the tiny Tardis!

The obligatory group shot including the book and a souvenir coin purse she brought back from her vacation!

I was very spoiled! Thank you so much calixita! The swap organizers couldn't have paired us more perfectly!  :D

Calixita, what a big, generous package you sent!  Everything is awesome; I especially love the crocheted mug rug (such pretty colors and design!) and the Hitchhiker's bookmark--that green guy is so funny, and you got the details of the fingers and tongue just right.  Really great stuff!

Pcollins, the artwork based on the book cover is truly amazing! Can you tell us how you made it? The robot bookmark is really cool too, working in paper seems to be your thing!

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this.

Here's another photo that I took before sending.

The whole thing was actually inspired by a project on the show "Art Attack" that I saw when I was a kid.  Here's a link to the segment I'm talking about!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECsMWkLEFGE

The basic concept is that each element is in its own separate layer to give some depth.  The original idea is to use cardboard frames and glue saran wrap onto them, then paint on your scenes.  I wanted to have something a bit more sturdy so I picked up some display boxes from the dollar store and took the front panels off of them and ta-da, wood frames with a hard plastic surface to work on!

From there it was really just laying out each layer and then putting it all together.  The buildings and the flames are both actually painted onto the plastic whereas the paper man and the books are *of course* paper.  Once everything was dry just glue them together and paint!  The whole thing is actually close to an inch thick because I used three of the frames.

The hardest part of the whole thing was actually putting the paint on thick enough that it wasn't spotty when you looked at it.  Also, making the paper man was a bit of a pain but I'm pretty happy with how he turned out!

ah thanks for the explanation pcollins, your painting is so smooth I thought the flames were paper too.  It's a very cool technique and definitely has great depth.  And the difficult paper guy was totally worth it :)

love your package, calixita!  i was friendly with douglas adams way back when i worked for a science fiction magazine, so it always tugs me to see anything hitchhikers. how did you craft that bookmark?? very nice mug rugs; its so nice to have a tardis at hand when you need one :D

How cool that you got to meet Douglas Adams!!!!!!  He always seemed (via interviews and articles I've read) like a very interesting person who would be fun to hang out with.  The bookmark is basically a little felt stuffie with a paperclip sewn into the bottom.

Pcollins, thanks for more insight into your artwork!  I love it!  Maybe someday, when I'm feeling ambitious, I'll try something like it!

I received a fantastic package from Averia today! I am so excited about it!

First, the books. Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, and Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. This swap really was perfect timing for me-I didnt know when I signed up that I would be taking a work trip to Las Vegas in a few weeks, and these books will be great to take with me. Im forcing myself to save them for it haha!

Next is the bookmark. A quote from Mr. Darcy! I was secretly hoping for some sort of Austen incorporated into my package, and also for a bit of Averia's fantastic needlework- and I got both in one! :D

Check out this mini book necklace! I love the leather cover and the brown beaded chain!

And finally, this amazing bookbag! I love the style, the PURPLE, and the print on the flap. It is very well made and I cant wait to use it.

I wish I had better pics, but by the time I got home from work and opened my package, daylight was fastly fading.

Averia- Again, thank you so much! I love everything and had a great time swapping with you! I cant wait to use all my goodies. :)

Too much great stuff that I can't comment on it all but I have been pinning!

I also received a fabulous package from RougeRaven.  She sent me a book I have been quite curious to read The Book of Lost Things.  I am almost finished with my current book and can't wait to dive into this one.

Inside the book was a Harry Potter themed bookmark which I just adore.  It's already being displayed on my Harry Potter shelf along with other Harry themed swap goodies I have received and of course my HP books.

Finally a Harry Potter hoop straight from my Pinterest!  Owl Post anyone???  This is already up on my hoopla wall which I have found needs to be expanded some!

Thanks so much Rouge Raven.  I love everything!!!

So many amazing crafts! I adore all of the Hitchhiker's stuff - one of my favourite books!
And the sewing-kit book is AMAZING!

Psyche and I decided to do a meetup-swap as we love so close to eachother.

Look what I got!!!

  • A READ hoop that is already on my bookshelf where I keep all of the books I haven't read yet.
  • A matching bookmark with a hand-stitched design
  • And not one, but TWO books! The Call of the Wild and Wuthering Heights!

Thank you Psyche!

I got my package today.  Prepare yourself for more Douglas Adams goodies!!  We both sent each other Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe books.  I'm so glad to finally add this to my book collection so I can pick it up to read whenever the whim strikes me.
Here's a group shot of everything:

A fabulous 'paranoid android' hoop - her first felt-worked one!  I love it!

wonderful cross stitched patches!  I think I need to figure out how to display these somehow.  The book quote really needs to be framed and put up in my bedroom!

and a Batman bookmark that made me laugh out loud!

She also put in a Milky Way candy bar - to go with the whole Universe theme!!

Thank you so much, mthrasher138!  I'm thrilled with all my goodies!  You were a wonderful swap partner!

WOW--so much amazing new stuff has appeared in the gallery!!

Theatreorchid--I'm loving the bag you made with the embroidered patch; and the "Don't Panic" cross stitch is great!  I love the bookmark too (I don't know who Marvin is, but he is cute!).  Is that shrink plastic?

Averia--The cross stitched bookmark is lovely, and I love that it takes a quote from one of StickerChic's favorite books.  The book necklace--amazing!  And a messenger bag on top of that--you did spoil your partner!

Pioneer9--The book bag with the bird fabric is just wonderful--perfect for library excursions, I would say!  I love the bookmarks you made, each is a work of art.  Speaking of art--an art quilt?  Are you kidding me?  That is so awesome!  (The wizard fabric you used is so perfect for it too.)

RougeRaven--you found such a beautiful copy of the book for your partner, that is a great treasure.  Your Happy Potter-themed bookmark is cool, and what about that CUTE hoop!  LOVE!!

Psyche--The "read" hoop is so perfect for this swap, and the matching bookmark is perfect too.  Great work on those!

Mthrasher138--Your Hitchhiker hoop is really wonderful, and I ADORE the cross-stitch patches (I often ask to receive pieces of embroidery with unfinished edges like that, so I can use them on something like a journal cover or bag).  Your bookmark is wonderful too!

I received my fab package from when_i'm_sixty4 today!  Wah hoo!

First, I received three books...

Well, okay, one is for me, and the other two are for my little guy.  LOVE the cute alphabet book.  I plopped right down and read them to him and he batted at the pages and cooed... he is only 3 months, so the fact that he stayed happy for the time it took to read them was an accomplishment!

My book is Ella Minnow Pea, which I have been wanting to read, and have probably picked up and put down about 5 times at book stores.  I'm pumped to finally have it to enjoy.  And the bookmarks are totally awesome, too!

The made one is a funky braided one with a bead at one end and an adorable mushroom charm at the other end!  I LOVE mushrooms and anything woodland, and sat and batted at the charm for a minute, smiling like a total dork.  I sometimes think I have some cat DNA in me.  The other ones are sweet little happy monsters that are magnetic.  So cute.  I like the one with headphones on the best.

Then the crafted items:

Another fabulous bag to add to the gallery.  I'm not sure if when_i'm_sixty4 meant to have a "letter" theme, but she did... the book is an epistolary novel (excuse me, my geeky English major is showing), one of the children's book is an alphabet book, and the bag and coffee sleeve have adorable alphabet fabric on them.  I have thrown the coffee sleeve in the diaper bag for coffee runs!  No more wasteful cardboard for me when I forget my travel mug!  (with mommy brain, it happens more often than remembering!)

And finally....

Mmmfff... oh, sorry, did you want to know what that was?  I had chocolate covered marshmallow shoved in my mouth.  Can't talk now, must... mmmff... nom... mmmfff... peanut butter truffle... mmmfff.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! I received my package from jellybean89 today... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! (running around squealing!)

Jellybean89: I love love love love love you!! And the package... and .............. well: here are pics!!!

I've never read any of the LOTR/Hobbit books... my first attempt in high school was reading The Silmarillion and couldn't do it, so never touched the rest. I finally watched the movies this year. The Hobbit in theaters, then a friend sat me down for back to back LOTR's. I put "Real all the books" on my list of things to do this year, so put them on my list... and SHE BOUGHT ME THE WHOLE SET!!!

(and yes: it's a BOXED set)

Then... the bookmarks! Minus 2 ribbons she sent along as bookmarks. Sassy cat got too excited and stole them out of the photo shot before I could snap it.

One is a corner bookmark, one is origami folded heart, the long heart bookmark also has a kitty stamped on the back but I couldn't get that to photograph no matter how I tried. For those that don't know me: I LOVE hearts. And Love. And Books, but that's why we're all here :D

Last... and perhaps unintended... Sassy cat loves her new paper stash (in addition to her 2 ribbons... I'm trying to steal them back)

I'm loving all the packages everyone is receiving!  So much awesome!  I agree that a Hitchhiker's Guide swap would lots of fun!  Think of the towels!!

EclecticDreamer, I'm a little jealous of you, reading the LOTR series fresh.  I love immersing myself into a new imaginative world!  Yay for books!

Oh! And forgive me... There was another item, and I'm just as excited about it. It's sitting next to me at my computer while I agonize over hanging it up at home or at my desk at work. Wherever it hangs, I'll be happy :D

It's a framed collection of quotes from The Princess Bride, with "As You Wish" in large print in the very center.

Sadly, I'm not able to get a photo that turns out :(

It starts, appropriately enough, with "When I was your age, television was called books."

This gallery has really been amazing! The owl post and read hoops are so cute as are the mushroom and origami heart bookmarks. We are a talented bunch of crafters!  :)

Jellybean89 emailed me... "I think you missed something. Check inside the blue paper". I uncrumpled and folded 2/3 of the paper she stuffed in the box before I found it (it was in the green paper). okay... I actually found the paper holding the surprise extra, and finished uncrumpling and folding ALL the paper first... Hm... OCD??? Anyhow...

A Happy Pill!!! (or is he a "Meh" pill? Since he's not technically smiling? But he's cute!!)

Sorry about the sideways pic. I couldn't figure out how to straighten it up.

Such lovely crafty items! I am always so intimidated when I start looking through the gallery! You all are so talented!

I was even more intimidated when I received my package today from Staar84! She totally spoiled me! I am scheming some thank you items I  going to craft for her this weekend!

I received a book I have been wanting for ages! AND she embroidered this beautiful raven that is composed of lines out of my *favorite* Poe poem. How on earth did you get such tiny words so neat and legible?

I tried posting more detailed pics but for some reason when I do it from my phone, it just uploads multiples of the same darn pic! I will post details in a following post.

The bookmarks are so very cool too! The red one she made just for the book she sent along. They button at the bottom and fit perfectly! And them small blue one is magnetic.

Thank you so much Staar84! Keep an eye out next week for some thank you goodies!

I agree - that raven is incredible!! Gotta love some Poe inspire embroidery  :D

Now I got some beautiful crafts of my own from the wonderful Ninaprettyballerina!

I was so excited to get the package so quickly - we are even in the same state  :o

First - here is the awesomeness that greeted me when I opened the box

The postcards Nina wrote me a note on are gorgeous in themselves and some sweet extras!

Oh My Goodness - Jeffrey Eugenides. I fell in love reading Middlesex and put 2 of his novels on my list. The Marriage Plot is his latest I think and I already started reading last night. I'm loving it!

Look at this loveliness - a handmade journal. It is put together so perfectly and I love the material and design on the inner sleeves. And as a sneaky little surprise there are authors names drawn on random pages throughout  ;D I included some of my favourites in the picture. Nina suggested it could be used to write notes and thoughts about things I read but I always have difficulties using handmade journals - they just seem too perfect to write in. I think I may use it as a basis for a bit of junk journalling.

I had pinned these pen-holder bookmarks and was secretly hoping for one - but got 2!! One is inspired by the 3 main characters in the Marriage plot and the second is reflecting one of my favourite colours -blue

There were these beautiful extras as well - bracelets in my favourite colours. I will be selecting an outfit tomorrow so I can wear one (or both - there are no rules!!)

Thank-you so much Nina - if you have better photos of anything please post them  :D I love everything you made for me - and hope you love what I made for you half as much. I hope yours get's there soon!!

Staar84--what a great Poe package!  The book looks big and wonderful, and the cross stitch--WOW!  It is so great! I know that had to take some time to make.  The bookmarks are all great too--I love the idea of the magnetic one especially.

Ninaprettyballerina--oh my goodness, what a BEAUTIFUL handmade journal!  That is so, so nice!  Lucky partner!  I love the bookmarks, they are a great idea with the pen holder included; and the bracelets are beautiful too.  Love it all!

I received from kriSmith!

First up, the book she sent and the bookmark:

I hadn't heard of this book before I saw it on the lists, but it sounded intriguing - I can't wait to read it.

Then some wonderful steampunk-y magnets:

And last, a beautiful painting! She used pages from an old encyclopedia for the background and had hoped that some words would show through, but then decided that it looked better with a darker coat of paint.

It's just my style and I love it! Thanks so much, kriSmith!

Lovely package, kriSmith!  The bookmark and magnets are so pretty--did you use rubber stamps for the images?  They look cool!  And the painting, wow!  I love the texture of the background and the simplicity of the bird silhouette.  It's all really great!

Thank you. The bookmark is stamped. The magnets I printed the gears onto scrap book paper. Then modge podge. They are so easy to make.

19 Minutes is one of my favorite books by Jodi Picoult.  If you end up liking that one I also recommend My Sister's Keeper.

I love that painting!

The postal gods were good to deathbeforedishes and I this time, and I got a lovely package in the mail. :)

I am so excited to finally read Angela's Ashes, it's been on my to-read list for something like 10 years!  Talk about never getting around to reading something, haha.  The button that isn't quite showing up is an adorable little worm...a BOOK worm. :D  Sorry about the bad pictures, my camera is kind of on the nearly-dead side.  Unfortunately you can't really see the cool bookmarks, one is an elastic with pretty beads (in one of my favorite shades of purple, I might add) and the other has an adorable mini book.

And just LOOK at that beautiful needlework.  No, seriously.  LOOK!

I love it, love it, love it!  I love Poe, I love The Raven (of course), I love blackwork, I love lace...really this is about as good as it gets.  ;D

Thank you so much, Leilani!  :-*

Deathbeforedishes, I'm so glad to see that this package actually reached your partner!  And it is gorgeous--wow, the Never More embroidery is stunning!  Is that a crocheted purse next to the book?  If you have close-ups of that and the bookmarks, I would love to see them.

a beautiful raven cross stitch!  nice finishing with the lace, that works really well (and I'm not usually a lace person).

This swap has been full of beautiful packages!

I'll jump in and answer..It's a great little pouch for pens. :) I'll see if my camera will cooperate for a closeup of the bookmarks.

Yay!  I am sooooo happy that the package arrived this time!

I started crocheting the pouch to put the book I bought for theatreorchid in, but the book was way too big and I had already finished the bag by the time I bought the book. I still wanted to send it, so I decided that it could be to hold pens or high lighters (or even a smaller book.) :D

I put my books in my purse all of the time and I hate when my purse items damage my book, so I made one of those for me a little while ago, but sometimes I just use it to toss pens and mirrors in and such...

If theatreorchids camera doesn't cooperate, I may have a closer pic at home. I work until 6pm EST, so I won't be able to post it until later tonight.  :D Don't you hate it when work gets in the way?

Here is the bookworm pin I bought at books a million for theatreorchid.

Here is the mini book at the end of the bookmark.

She said she was a cat lady, so I got her a cat pin too!

I looked through my photos for a picture of the pouch I made and the other bookmark, but I could not find any.  :-\

Wow, lovely Poe stuff! Adore that whole poem in the shape of a raven, and the cross-stitch is pretty cool too!

Eclectic dreamer - no wonder you didn't enjoy your first taste of Tolkien. The Silmarillion is a terrible place to start ;) (But it's neat once you become obsessed with the world and want to know its history!)

This is the amazing package i received:
2 books - Ive already started getting hooked into one.  The other was a bonus copy of the yaya sisterhood, which was also on my list, that Kylie picked up - she says that never happens to her - so lucky me!!  I received a black chain with sewing notions hanging off it - inspired no doubt by one of my novels! (thanks Kylie!) ;) The bookmark is gorgeous with a quote from the book "I was carried away, swept along by a might stream of words pouring from the hundreds of pages.  To me it was the ultimate book; once you read it, neither your own life nor the world you lived in would ever look the same."  What a great quote! The Chinese symbol apparently means "read".  Kylie you mentioned a second bookmark about a Chinese proverb about books? Im so sorry I couldnt find it in the package :(  So sorry.

She also made my a mini travel sewing kit again with great pockets and cute little scissors that came with it!

Kylie also included some poppy seed soap - yum!  and tea (tea and books!!  great combo!!) we should include tea with books for the next book swap ;) ;)wink wink

And Kylie how did you know about my love of peanuts in choc?? yum!  cant wait to get into that !!  ( using all my willpower cos i gotta fit in this dress for a wedding in 2 weeks - pat on the back for me - i still havent opened it up!!) ;)

And all this came in a wonderfully made bag ( which i will be using for crocheting projects!!)  inspired by the book - with Chinese material.  The great thing is there are lots of pockets and zips to hold all the stuff like scissors and the fantastic sewing kits I was sent also!!  Its amazing how you sewed all the pieces together in this bag!  ( i would have been so confused!!)

Thank you so much KYLIE! I love it all and feel so spoilt!  Thanks also to Leslie and Susan for such a great swap!!
(sorry about the gigantic post!)

Awesome bag, necklace, sewing kit and bookmark, whenindoubtsew!  And I love the extras too--the chocolate covered peanuts and tea...and the soap looks good enough to eat!

But really, lets go back to that bag for a moment.  You made a sewing kit and a necklace, but that wasn't enough, you made an incredibly detailed bag too??  You are one amazing swapper!

Finally, here are my photos of my fab package from Elyxandra! We swapped in person a ways back.

First of all, the crafted item: a book tote! It's got a nice almost 80's tone to it, I think.

Then there's the books! Two from my list, Blood Meridien by Cormac McCarthy and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

And some neat water colour bookmarks. :)

Thanks Elyxandra, it's a great package!

And gorgeous tote and bookmarks Elyxandra  ;D

The Chinese inspired bag was my medium - it was such an easy to follow pattern from Sewphisti-cat Designs called "Louise's Bag" As soon as I saw a book with Chinese seamstress in the title the crafts I could make just started jumping out at me :) And you can't be a seamstress without a travel sewing kit so I had this cute one pinned http://lotsofpinkhere.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/travel-sewing-kit-tutorial.html. Then out supply shopping (everyone know's this feeling) I saw these sewing charms for a very reasonable price and just had to make a vintage look pendant. This has been the funnest swap!! I'm glad you liked everything Nina  :D

Amazing new additions to the gallery everyone!

I had so much fun making the bookmarks and tote. I had a jar of resist fluid that I was dying to try out with my watercolours. I ended up using the same technique from the bookmark on the envelope swap with my calligraphy guild later that week! I just love the way certain colours pool together. I tried a zentangle with this method as well - it ended up with a blue, green and pink background with a white pattern - so pretty once you get the hang of it - give it a try!
