Title: Merlin Blackwork
Post by: aethelberga on December 24, 2012 12:54:56 PM
Ages ago I found some Blackwork patterns of Arthur, Guinevere & Merlin online & they've been in my to-do stash forever. I finally finished the Merlin one yesterday.

detail:

Now I need to find more of the fabric so the pictures of Arthur & Guinevere will match, but I bought it so long ago. You can't really tell with these pics, but it's sort of oatmeal & gold metallic.

Thanks for looking

I love this! Do you remember where you found the patterns? I am obsessed with all things Arthurian and I would love to make these. Your stitches look perfect, btw.  :)

Unfortunately no, it was probably close to 10 years ago.

So I log into Craftster on Christmas afternoon, and I see a thumbnail of a lovely blackwork Santa Claus (of the "old-fashioned robe" variety). . . :D

Nice work.  I can see why it took you a while to work up the energy.

Wow!  That is amazing, you did a wonderful job with the detail.  I hope you can find more of the fabric for Arthur and Guinevere too- they will make a wonderful set!

Sadly I do not remember. I got the pics off the internet way back in the day. I tried looking for them again recently, in case the designer was still selling them, but my Google-Fu was not that strong.

The style of this is a lot like that seen in kits from The Craft Collection Limited that various people are selling or have sold on eBay, including kits for Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190790083075) and the castle of Camelot (http://www.ebay.com/itm/260894072029).  I haven't seen a Merlin, yet, but it strikes me as likely that there is one, somewhere, and if its pattern is not the kit that aethelberga used, it might be quite similar.

I haven't found a website for the company.  Maybe they don't sell direct to the public.  Or maybe the name they put in big letters on the top of all their products isn't the one they call their company by online, so it's hard to tell their site from all the ones that resell their stuff.  (That's what happens with Aunt Martha's iron-on transfers (http://www.colonialpatterns.com/); their site is under "Colonial Patterns, Inc.".)  In any event, if you're lucky your local needlecraft store might be able to help you track them down, especially if you're in the U.K. (where they're based).

They are similar, but not identical. I also have the Arthur & Guinevere ones and they have frames around them and the names and words (I omitted the words from the Merlin one - it was something like the great enchanter). I really like these ones though. I may have to hunt them down
