Title: Picked up wrong wire what can I do with 28 Gauge?
Post by: mink_bikini on November 29, 2012 02:57:01 PM
Hubby picked up the wrong gauge wire for me, I needed 20 and he picked up 28 which is wayyyy too lightweight for what I had planned. I'm a real newbie to jewelry making and beading etc, does anyone know of any beginner/easy projects links etc that use this kind of wire?

Thanks so much in advance

You could always bundle up strands together and braid them to form into a cuff.  You could thread seed beads onto it and loosely crochet it.  You could thread beads of different sizes onto it, and wrap it around something else, like an ornament, or star shape to make Christmas decorations.  Or just do it with bare wire, that would look cool too.

28 g wire is very easy to use for wrapping. If your husband gets the right wire (20g) then you can make a hoop or teardrop shape with the 20g and then use the 28g wire to wrap seed beads to the frame. I make pendants and earrings to match like this all the time. I hope this helps.

28 gauge is perfect for knitting.

We carry knitting spools and recommend smaller wires, like 26 and 28 gauge because they are easy to use and easy on the fingers when drawing through the spool.

Viking knit is a wire weaving technique that is done best with the finer gauges and its one of my favs so I recommend that.
