Title: Hazel & Corpula
Post by: Rosemary1111 on November 08, 2012 05:41:03 AM
i'm beginning a series of witches.  i would like to make them into a mobile of maybe 7 or possibly 13 (if that isn't to large) with a small caldron in the middle as the weight.  i've mostly finished the first 2 except for their brooms... I haven't figured out what material i should use so if there are any suggestions on broom material i would be grateful.

i based Hazel off a vintage kitchen witch i found at a swap meet years ago. i fell in love with her and ever since i have been wanting to make a series of them. Corpula just kinda came out a western brothel witch... or something, lol! i don't know but she was fun making.

they're beautiful (in the witchy way.. it's a good thing though)

as for their brooms have you checked craft stores for straw, or look for a cheap straw broom somewhere and use that for the bottom part. if you want the real authentic witchy broom look :)

Awesome witches!  Does Corpula hang too?

Maybe raffia for the brooms?  Or the twisted paper ribbon... just cut it smaller to give it "straw" like size.

They're fantastic! Such personalities! I can't wait to see the mobile when you finish it, I can see that taking a while though. How long does it take you to make each one?

The faces are so expressive!  I love Hazel!

You could use small twigs for the brooms...gather them up and tie them to the sticks...

I remember those kitchen witches!  Yours is wonderful!
I know in my Michaels they have wispy straw-like material sold in bunches - you could make 100 brooms with that and I think the gage of it would be perfect for little brooms!

Haha! We have a lot of the same books!

Your witches are amazing!  So much personality!  I can't wait to see the whole collection.

I suggest looking in the floral section of your craft store for broom material.  Usually there are some dried plant stalks and although I'm not very familiar with the specific names of them, their are many that have a wispy or twiggy look to them and may work well for you.  Good luck with that!

Can you call a witch lovely?  I think so!
