I actually found mine (two good sized scraps) at a craft re-sale shop of sorts. All supplies are donated, sorted, and then you go and dig through and see what treasures you can find :) Then you pay whatever you want :)

I checked seven pages of spoonflower doctor who fabrics and didn't see this particular one, but I was amazed at all the awesome doctor who fabrics that are available on there!

Sent in my questionnaire a little bit before - but somehow forgot to mention River Song as one of my favourite characters, lol! (I remembered her when I went into say hi to the cat and said "hello, sweetie," my new standard greeting for cats - and for my boyfriend!) Oh well, I look forward to being paired with a swap partner and getting started on the crafting! ;)

What?! Zoo animals? You rate DW down with zoo animals?! Doctor Who is waywayway farther up than that. All they way up with Monty Python, Sherlock, Marry Poppins, Harry Potter, and Willy Wonka! Zoo animals! Bah! Not even in the same category.
Pandas are pretty cute, though...

I'm trying to decide if I have enough Who knowledge to join. I looove Eleven, I watched it for the fourth time over the weekend, but I don't know the previous Doctors. Although I'm very interested in Nine, since I want to try Torchwood next, and Jack was a companion for Nine. But I'm definitely not a Whovian, who knows everything about the oldschool Doctors.

OH MY GLOB!!!  y'all are missing out...i, myself, am a bit of a fangirl when it comes to number 10, and i was quite fond of 9 too.  having said that, i am adjusting to 11...he's fun and quirky.

I love eleven, went back and watched nine and ten.  Have not seen much of the old stuff.  I still consider myself a Whovian, only a new one.  That is what the internet is for.  You can look up lots of stuff to please your partner if they are old school.

Hopefully, there will be another one sometime soon.

Wow, we have 31 people! Keep sending in those questionnaires!

A few notes (In no particular order):
  • I will be leaving the swap open probably until Sunday morning sometime (EST) and you should have partners by Sunday night
  • The new series premier is September 1st! BBC One and BBC America are apparently both airing it on that date. I have no clue what time...
  • I will also be splitting you guys into two groups once I have partnered you all up. Half of you will report to me and half will report to deathbeforedishes, my lovely companion/co-organizer
  • Also, if you haven't posted in the thread yet, please do so, even to just say hi! I will be checking up on everyone before I close the swap and then probably once a week just to make sure everyone is still active. Communication is important!
  • That should be it. I can't wait to get started!

This will be my first swap but it's something I'm really passionate about so it should be easy right? I started with 10, so of course he's my favorite doctor (you always love your first), but the doctor is the doctor, whether he's older looking or younger looking. I miss RTD and am kinda mad at Moffat (even though he wrote all the best episodes during RTD's reign) but I'm still super excited for the next season!!! Especially the new companion we get to meet this Christmas!

New season..."HAPPY DANCE"...I have been waiting.  The space channel (Canadian SyFy) has been running Doctor Who marathons for the last few weekends and I recorded them and been watching them in preparation for the new season.

:o Some might find that kind of talk to be blasphemy! But not me  ;). I'm not a Matt Smith fan either. After nine left, I was disappointed and didn't think I'd like ten. I was completely wrong though; I fell in love with ten and he is hands down, my absolute favorite. I figured it would take me a few episodes to start liking eleven too, but I've finished nearly two seasons with him and he still hasn't grown on me.

I miss RTD and am kinda mad at Moffat (even though he wrote all the best episodes during RTD's reign)

I miss Russell T Davies too. I've found many of the episodes in seasons 5 & 6 to be disappointing and flat.

Hey so I am dying to watch the Tennant years (I don't know what's come over me. I'm a Smith fan), but I don't have netflix and everything I try on google is scary-bad bad bad bad ...bad wolf. Oh lord. Making WHO references where ever I go.
So does anyone know where I can watch for free without crashing/killing my computer?

Try your library. Most libraries have DVDs of the show.

The thing is watching it for free on the internet isn't exactly legal, so any site that has illegal material up normally has something that isn't good for your computer.

Hellooooooo everyone! I am a somewhat recent convert to Doctor Who, but oh, all my love. I recently (like the other day) did a bit of a rewatch. Let me tell you, if you're in the mood for a good cry, watch seasons five and six then go back and watch Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Because RIVER.

Can't wait to start crafting!

ETA: Totally just ordered a totally sweet (and free!) fat quarter from Spoonflower with a decidedly Who pattern....

Well Netflix is only $8 a month. BUt that aside, you can get the free two week trial and power through them :D

1- i second that. i do like bits and peices of matt smith's doctor but nothing compared to tennant or eccleson (felt the same way as you about tennant at first too), but seeing how as i still haven't seen enough of the original series to have a favorite doctor from then, so i generally count smith as my 3rd favorite since he has his moments, i also liked him a lot more after i saw the episode of sarah jane adventures with him in it, davies wrote the episode and it was like night and day, that was when i started to realize that its not that smith's a bad actor, its that moffat's being a bad writter. this was also when me and my friend decided to make it our mission to distroy moffat for being an amazing writer at everthing else he does but ruining doctor who

2- eeee!!!! yay!!!! so glad i saw this in time. i've been busy moving and haven't even been on the site let alone had time for a swap and have been so anxious to start crafting now that i have my own place with plenty of space to take over with my crafty mess. too tired to answer questions right now but i'll be sending in my questionare tomorrow

I started watching Doctor Who with the 9th Doctor a few months ago. We have Netflix, so my husband and I got to watch them, in order, up through the 11th Doctor.

I was so upset when the 9th Doctor converged into a what I felt was a little elvin one. But the 10th Doctor started to grow on me, then I liked him more than the 9th.  And I was so heart broken when he transformed into the 11th. But now I adore the quirkiness of the 11th. I adore Amy and Rory; I was worried that every companion would start to fall in love with The Doctor.

It was tough for me to pick a favorite Doctor in the questionnaire. But I picked the 11th, I love the fish fingers and custard, and the girl who waited and the fez and bow tie. I love River and her journal... I admit that the stories with the 10th Doctor were better, but I have really fallen in love with the characters that make up the 11th Doctor's seasons.

I haven't really seen the 1st-8th Doctors, even though they are on Netflix too. Right now I am filling my nights embroidering and watching Warehouse 13 and Torchwood.  :D

I like Matt Smith he is a good Doctor and I like that he has brought a child likeness to him..But after the greatness of Tennant it's hard to move on...

And RTD's episode for me were more emotional and exciting. And I HATE AMY

Re: Companions falling in love with the doctor: This is why I adore Donna so very much. She was *never* interested in him romantically, was completely her own person, and doesn't take anyone's crap, including the Doctor's. I really love Rose, but Donna's really grown on me.

Good thing I'm not the only one who dislikes Amy. I am very much ready for a new companion but I was really hoping for a male like Jamie or Adric. The doctor doesn't need any more women in his life! The doctor needs a bro, or a woman who is kinda like a bro (like Donna).

Has anyone had any success with writing Gallifreyan? I'm only just starting but it looks like there are so many variants...

So whose version are you using? I know there are different ones out there, so that makes it incredibly confusing. Maybe DW Officials should adopt one of them. That would be pretty cool.

Can't wait for September 1st! But guess who won't be able to see it?! *points to self followed by uncontrollable sobs*

Attention, Sherlockians: the three words are PIPE SLIPPERS BED.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Ohmygosh I am so sorry Sherlockians. Effing Gatiss lied. the true words are RAT WEDDING and BOW (no, wholocks, not bowtie)...

I have informed my family that on Sept 1st they are not to disturb me nor interupt my Who viewing on pain of a very stropy me! (BTW that is quite scary for some, much worse than death!!!)  :P

Whatever the words are I want all my sci fi/fantasy now and not have it dragged out.

Yes I know that Watson needs to film Hobbit which I anticipate loving, but I want them both sooner rather than later.

I'd also be quite happy if Sherlock had an adventure with the doctor while Watson is on his vacation down under.

I DLed the Ninth, and watched the first five episodes last night. I like Nine, though not as much as Eleven. Nine doesn't like kids, Eleven is bros with Stormageddon. I'm still interested in seeing what Ten is like. As far as companions go, Rose is driving me up the damn wall. Stop waiting for him to save you and take control of your own life! I know she's a companion in the next series and I really hope she becomes more impressive. If she stays like this, I'm gonna edit my signup to put her as my least favourite character.

In other news, I really don't need to spend any more money buying only available for one day tshirts on the internet, but I love this Doctor Who shirt: http://www.qwertee.com/

I've been using is the Loren Sherman version. It's so frustrating! Maybe it's because I'm tired and can't get a grasp of it. I really want to use some of it in this swap, so I may just end up winging it if I can't do it properly. Engraving metal with Gallifreyan text would be so beautiful!

---The rest of this post is spoiler-rific if you haven't seen the newer series---

I DLed the Ninth, and watched the first five episodes last night. I like Nine, though not as much as Eleven. Nine doesn't like kids, Eleven is bros with Stormageddon. I'm still interested in seeing what Ten is like.

He's not my favorite either, but don't give up on Nine! He's supposed to be quite rough, he's just been through an ordeal with the Last Great Time War. So I know it's never fully explained, but he has somehow caused the complete destruction of not only the Daleks but the Time Lords as well (but Daleks are like roaches and the Master is.. well, the Master). So he's pretty cynical at this point. And even though Rose is whiney and a bit frivolous, she is very important in the "re-humanizing" of the Doctor. Without Nine, and subsequently Ten (swoon), Eleven would not be as awesome as he is! ::steps off soapbox::

I recommend watching The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Such a great story! And you get to meet the amazing Captain Jack, who I think may be coming back sometime this season (though rumors can never be trusted!). Just think of the great dialogue possibilities! The Captain and the Doctor with another new (rather handsome) face! Or with River. That just sounds awesome, River with her flirty/feisty nature and Jack with his flirty/cocky boyishness.

Just start with the 9th Doctor, that is, the new doctor who episodes. I reccommend starting with The Empty Child (this others have said) and then going back and watching the other episodes, if you like it.  I'm not a big 9th Fan, but the bad wolf story line is good, so just watch it! lol

My partner and I just got some people into New Who and this is the order we did it:

1. Blink (Excellent first ep for introducing the concept since it's from the pov of an outsider)
2. Pilot (so we have any idea who Rose is)
3. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (clearly the best of nine and my favorite)

I started with Blink and then watched the season with nine. Some of the ones for nine are a little silly but I have a high tolerance for silly television so I just watched them all).

It has an amazing PDF guide you can download, and if all else fails, there is a subreddit (on reddit, of course  ;D ) dedicated to it! If you post your creations on there, there is an entire community of nerds to help translate and correct problems, minus a scary red pen.  :D

Rose is actually a lot stronger with 10 then 9. I think after she discovers who she is, she realizes that she is capable of standing on her own.. Which she does several times with 10. I think her feelings for 10 though kind of get in the way of herself..

Ok! Everyone should have their partner's questionnaire... please let me know if you didn't get it or if I messed up somehow. It took me over an hour to send all of those out... oh dear. Anyway, Allons-y!

Alright, I managed to make a slight mistake... is there anyone who wants to send to Australia? I have the_canadian_lynx, who is from Canada, who can't send to tabiekat in Australia due to shipping prices, so she needs to trade partners. So actually I need a set of partners, one willing to ship to Canada and one to Australia... I can try to make it work on my end but if anyone wants to offer first that would be great! They both have cats, so keep that in mind too!

Actually, ignore that. I think I figured something out!

Current problem: I have about a dozen shades of blue paper. There are about 22 million pictures of the Tardis, according to google images. Each is a slightly different shade of blue. Most of which I have. Too. Many. Options.  :-\

The TARDIS has actually been many different shades of blue throughout the years, so you'd probably be okay with any approximate shade.

and who knows what shade of blue its going to be in the future so you've really got all your bases covered no matter what shade you pick

I don't cross stitch, but if anyone is looking for some simple DW charts, I came across http://meredee.livejournal.com/. She's got some charts she came up with on her own. Kind of cute and very interesting. I saved some of the jpgs she created, in case they could be worked into crochet patterns. :)

I'm am so in love with watching the Pond Life. I have been rewatching new who while sick. I'm now on Season 5.

I also went on a wild goose chase finding the time in the UK only to realize they are the center of time zones.

Anyway new Pond Life episodes air a noon BBC time.

Wednesday's Pond Life is kinda asking to be crafted into something. Not sure what yet. :D

Just watched a little more Classic Who - The Android Invasion (Tom Baker era) is great! It was listed as one of my lovely partner's favorite episodes so I decided to hunt it down and give it a go. Lot's of good material to work with in that one (for example - apparently Oak trees don't grown on any other planet but Earth!). Definitely recommend watching it if you haven't. Good background noise to craft to if nothing else.

wondering if my partner got my message-o-endless-questions since she hasn't wrote me back, but none the less, i got a couple ideas.

i'm just wishing i didn't leave behind so many supplies when i moved but i shouldn't need a lot of stuff for what i have in mind so its not too bad. just need to make sure i get some supplies before work on friday, we've been so dead lately that i've just been sitting in the breakroom doing crafts most the day, i might as well use that time to work on ________.

I am very much looking forward to the weekend, especially Saturday night.  I am recording DW and once the little one is asleep curling up on my couch with a snack and enjoying some long awaited Doctor Who.

Hmmm, still plotting my items!  I know two smalls with a fair amount of certainty, and I think I know what to do for the medium/large but I still need to figure out exactly how I'm going to do it.  Too many choices! Must make decisions! Augh, my weak spot!

Too many choices! Must make decisions! Augh, my weak spot!

I'm running into the too many choices as well. This is my first big Doctor Who swap and I want to make so many different things.

I have ideas for 3 different things using one crafting technique, and then at least 2 ideas in another crafting style. I also keep having lots of one off ideas for things that would be small.

Ultimately I let my husband decide what to focus on so I can make him one too, or give him the original if I screw it up.

I guess my issue is I started thinking about an item for each of my partner's favorite characters and that kinda ended up with 6+ larges plus about 4 more ideas for smalls.

I think I definitely need to do more swaps with my partner in the future, we have such similar tastes its like I'm crafting for myself!

Aw, poor thing. I think we should have at least a one week spoiler ban in this thread. Just post things in white or something and tell people to hi-lite it if they want to read?

Also, last night my boyfriend and I were talking about the Sherlock commentaries (we haven't listened to them yet) and from there I mentioned that someone had said that the only reason we should have to wait so long for season 3 is if Sherlock is the Doctor's next companion. The rest went like this:

BF:No, Watson would make a much better companion.
Me:Well he needed something to do in the 3 years he was waiting for Sherlock...
BF:Although it would be really awkward when Sherlock got back and tried to deduce him. "You were in ancient Rome yesterday. Wait, what?"
Me:The deduction is sound but the logic is sort of "wobbly."
BF:Poor confused Sherlock...

this is the 7th full size DW swap, sometimes they also do OTT (one tiny thing) and fill-a-box (jam as much as you can into a small flat rate box) swaps.i'd say there's at least a couple a year, but if you can talksomeone into organizing one, the's always pleny of people that sign up

That was a pretty good episode!! Though one part I'm not sure what to think... Spoilers ahead! (highlight to read) -  I don't really like the idea of the Daleks forgetting about the Doctor. He has destroyed them and they have been like mortal enemies for a long long time. The doctor is like their number one enemy and they fear/hate him like no other and he hates them back.

It didn't really give me new ideas for items, but I did enjoy it. At one point I just walked into the living room and shouted the word "FEEEEEEELINGS" at my parents. Because man did I have them. And the teaser for the next ep, coupled with what I already knew has me SO EXCITED. How many more staples of my childhood can fit in one Tardis?

I haven't started crafting yet, but I will soon (have had a lot of stuff going on.)

Also, I don't have cable, so I have to see the new episodes in less than legit way  ;)  Also, I'm currently rewatching the whole series before watching the new episodes...

I like the "highlight to read" style spoilers, thanks for being considerate for those of us that have to watch the later!

I don't have cable either, but BST is like four hours ahead of me so 7pm BST is like 2 PM here and I found the premiere before it was on BBCA. I'd sort of feel bad about it, but I bought both Sherlock DVDs from BBCA so at least they get some of my money.

Title: Re: Doctor Who Round 7 Swap Sendouts 10/1/12

So wish I'd have brought my supplies to work with me today, I was sitting around for 2 hours doing nothing (I always have a book in my bag but reading was making me sleepy).

I think I have everything set that I wanna make. Couldn't find the main supply I wanted for the large (I hate not having a hobby lobby nearby, the michaels and joanns here have such a bad selection and are so much more expensive) but i think i can make it work by making my own ______ out of _______, and I came up with a backup plan for the design so if my original idea doesn't work I should still be able to do something pretty sweet.

Just finished watching the new episode, have some mixed feelings (seems to be about what everyone else is thinking) but overall pretty good. Nervous for next week's episode though cuz I'm gonna die if it ends up sucking since they're finally doing my 2 favorite periods in history and in the same episode.

Alright I've got a sink full of dishes calling my name and then I'm off to craft.....or take a nap and then craft...that bed's calling my name pretty loud too  ;)

Crafting is going slowly definitely. Got some small things figured out, still wondering what to do with a large... have some ideas but not sure if any of them are good enough. I feel slightly paralyzed, you know? Like I want it to be good and don't want to mess up my first swap!

So the new episode was bananas. I loved it so much! Moffat is so good sometimes. Spoilers ~~>So I don't believe Rory would ever leave Amy. No matter what she did to him, he'd stick through it. That was the only unbelievable part of the episode. You know, as far as Doctor Who goes. And Oswin! I can't wait for her to join the Doctor. It looks like she'll be from the future? If she is remotely the same character when she comes back. Loves the episode so much I wrote a blog post on it. Pictures and all!

Sooo I sort of have three items done, including a medium.... It was a long weekend. I had a lot of time of my hands. I like to make Who things. So I'll probably be sending like, crazy early.

I had a terrible experience with air dry clay today. Had to completely scrape and restart :'(. My other large is comping out great. I get to start shading tomorrow and then it will really come to life.

I'm slightly frustrated because the item I was working on came out size wise larger than I expected. I Think I'll send it anyway, it just won't have the purpose I thought it would.

Almost finished crafting the first item. I'm really hoping everything I make turns out the way I want it to. We came back from vacation early so of course the first thing I did this morning was watch the season premier! I honestly have mixed feelings about it. It just did not blow me away like I was expecting.  :-\

I didn't intend to but seeing how as I own about 5 who shirts they ten to work their way into the rotation quite often so I just happened to be wearing one. love the "oo wee oo" on your shirt, reminds me of the DW song from The Chasers War on Everything.

Got a good chunk done on the _______ today at work while on break, pretty sure everyone thinks i'm crazy after seeing me pull out more and more supplies out of my WIP bag and turning the break room into my work station. Gonna try and remember to dig out some fabric tomorrow so I can start on the ______ and ________. Still trying to figure out how to tackle the ______ though.

Oh timelord. I haven't been checking in at all. I am so sorry. But anyway! Living in a dorm can have both advantages and disadvantages. When I go home on the weekends, I have a list of craft stuff that I've forgotten or need, and gather them up before I have to go back. But sometimes my brain is all stupid and I forget important supplies that I absolutely HAVE to have before starting the craft. It's very frustrating to myself. I usually don't ever craft on weekends (too busy). Last weekend when I was rummaging through my house for craft supplies (it's like a freakin' Hobby Lobby), I found something awesome so I'm going to send it.
*So my to do list is decorate ___ for the ___.
*Finish _____ for the ____ then ____ them, and then ____ them, then done with that. (this will be finished by Monday. Maybe.)
*Think of what to do with _____....still not quite sure on that one.
*Oh, then make a ___ for the ____. Then fill it with _____.
*I wonder if I can make _____. <<Seriously debating that one.
*Then last but not least __________. (My favorite. Can't wait to get started on this one!)

Had a brainwave last night, changed my idea for the medium/large.  Searched on here... someone has already done it.  Wait, not quite - there's a feature I thought of that the other person didn't include! But a commenter suggested it.  That kind of took the wind out of my sails, but I'm going to go through with the idea anyway.

This episode was a lot of fun, in that wacky exuberant way I love about this show - and yes, the kissing scene was awesome, lol.

As for crafting, I actually have much of my large done and it is sitting __ing on my floor. I also started one possible medium just now, or may do another 'medium' instead (or both - the plan is a work in progress). :)

try using a sprray sealant just make sure its a matte finish and they won't be shiney, if you can find a satin finish that looks nice too its not shiney but not completely dull, i know Krylon usually makes realy good products for sealants (keeps them waterproof and lasts long) and you can find it anywhere that sells spraypaint. You could also use modge podge that has a matte finish, but you'll get niceer results with a spray sealant (i'm not super anti-modge podge, i just only like it for certain things)

Loved the Christmas list part in the new episode too. Are there any other ancient egypt nerds out there that got pissed off that she didn't had double peirced ears or a shaved head? Cuz she's pretty much my favorite historical figure and that kinda ruined an otherwise great episode for me.

I think I may have finally figured how to work my sewing machine... you would think getting a more 'advanced' model than the 1960's one I am used to would make it easier... yeah, not so much. I think this one has a mind of it's own... and I am pretty sure it thinks I am stupid.  :P

I'm going to get the last of my supplies (let's hope they have what I need) and I will hopefully finish my large today! I've got one small made and I've got the stuff for another item, I just need to actually do it.

I'm the biggest slacker here it seems.  I have a lot of stuff started, but nothing done or even close to done.  Gotta hit up Michael's today for a couple things.  I am still trying to come up with more ideas as right now I only have 3 ideas and one half idea! I also had a huge brainfart.  I read my partner's questionairre several times, for some reason I was convinced she lived in Idaho or Iowa (a cold place)....but no, she lives in a warm place (California) so I had to scrap one of my ideas!  (I'll save it for a future swap ;) )

You're not alone...I haven't started anything for this swap yet (although I have gotten a few supplies).  I'm finishing up another swap due at the end of this month.  I wanted to finish it first, because once I start on this one, I won't want to work on anything else.  Only thing is the other swap is taking me much longer than I anticipated  :-\.  I am going to push myself really hard to finish the other one today so I can focus completely on Doctor Who!

Yesterday, I listened to a DW audiobook narrated by David Tennant and watched "The Pirates! Band of Misfits," which also stars his voice.  I just can't get enough of him right now!  Oh, I also watched him on Netflix in "The Decoy Bride" last weekend.  I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it!  I can't wait to finally get started on this swap!

lilusa - maybe your partner lives in a cold part of CA... I'm in the CA desert and it can get pretty chilly here.

Man oh man, I've already spent at least 3 hours on something I was going to call a small.  Don't get me wrong, I'm loving every minute of it, but it's turning out to be way more time intensive than I thought!
In other news, I have most of the materials I'll need for my big item, and I'm feeling awesome and productive.  I also managed to bang off a quick cross stitch for a friend's birthday, so that makes me feel pretty great.

OMG. You all-- I've been the same way! But for completely different reasons! Mostly because I'm a poor college student and I can't get to the items that I need most (still). Also, whenever I come home for the weekend NOTHING gets done because of a certain parent needing my absolute undivided attention.
Anyway---- That 4 phase project was a complete bust. I was so mad that I'd spent so many hours on it and it didn't even turn out. So I'm substituting it for something else entirely. Then on my list there are a couple things I need to do and then the last but best part (the one I'm most excited about)!

Getting to have a rare weekend of just watching movies with the BF while he plays video games and i craft so i'm actually making some progress on the large. It cracks me up how he keeps looking over and trying to give me advise on what i'm doing and it always ends in me telling him i can't do that because it it doesn't work with this technique or that's not how it looked on the show and him going "yeah i know, i have no idea what i'm talking about" because he doesn't craft or watch who.

I still need to get the sewing machine out so i can finish up ________ and _______. _________ is almost done but i think i'm gonna hold off on finishing it since its the only project i have right now that's easy to pack up and carry and i'll need something to do while on break at work this week.

looks like i gotta message my partner real quick and clear up some issues about how cold it is where i live lol, and then i'm back to crafting

Hmm, so instead of crafting this weekend I was social (*gasp* that never happens!) and I taught my boyfriend how to crochet. He is so proud of himself because we sat down and watched a movie and I gave him some fluffy yarn and he finger crocheted a scarf by the end of it. On his second day of crocheting. Haha, that of course meant I got to work on some things as well... but didn't finish anything.

Also, we now have a gallery (and a super early sender)! Post your swap goodies there when you get them!

I hope everything is going well with everyone! Sorry to hear you're sick, 11denson... I feel something coming on myself so I know what you mean...

Thanks for your concern! But it's strange because now that I'm sick, I've had all the time in the world to craft. I have finally put everything together, but it doesn't seem like enough things. Gah. Gotta go brainstorm again...

Wait, never mind. I'd forgotten something. I have a feeling I'll have mine sent in by the end of the week. But don't hold me up to it!

Was happily chugging along on something until i realized the sizing was way off. Hours of work, gone. Add to that an almost constant headache since I've landed in Texas a couple nights ago... Not sure if I'll be able to send by Monday, but since my nephew isn't due to make his grand entrance until the 4th, hopefully i will be able to focus on finishing one thing and restarting the other... And very hopefully, i will do this all by Monday.

Wish me luck!

I received my wonderful package from jfer007 and posted the pics in the gallery. Now I have to scramble to finish my stuff. If only these kids would stop asking for my help with homework...geez, don't they understand I have important crafting to do?

I need to learn how to not get ahead of myself. Thought I was finished then realized I had to do some finishing to the large. Then I broke the needle on my machine AND our house "got the plague" as my husband put it.  :'(  I will definitely be sending out by the deadline, but my fingers are crossed for Friday.

Oh no! zee plague! I hope you aren't feeling too crummy!
I have been super sick this week getting over an ear infection and then a random allergic reaction.
Buuut I seem to be in better health now (fingers corssed).
I will for sure be sending by Monday (and probably ON Monday) cause I am squeezing in all of my finishing up crafting into all the breaks I have this weekend.
[on the bright side this is my last weekend working Sundays so I will finally have a day to myself (and my crafts for my other swap haha)]

Ugh, I left my package at home! I guess I'm sending out Monday as well.

This is a final reminder that sendouts are Monday! Make sure you've been in contact with your partner before you send. I also NEED to have a PM from you when you send (with a DC# if you're shipping within the US) and ANOTHER PM when you receive. Thanks!

Almost done with my LARGE (psst-- if you don't like it, you can gladly send it back as I am going to be having a hard time parting with it). Just working out the best way to add the -cough, cough-. The medium will be smooth sailing for me. and ugh, the last one!! One of the components arrived today. I dismantled it and hopefully the other item I need will be here tomorrow. (i don't want to send late but if it comes Monday, I will feverishly try and get it done and make a late night trip to our post office).

In the last commercial break before it was over one of the ads was for kleenex. I was like HAHAHA UNIVERSE THAT'S SO WITTY! *rolls eyes* And then the last segment started, along with the hysterical crying. So, you know, good call, universe!

My items are nearly done. I just need to put a waterproof sealant on an item I used waterbased paint on, and then I'm set. But the post office is closed in an hour, so I'll be sending out tomorrow.

Boo, my first swap and I'm sending out late! For shame!
I have to send tomorrow (well, today) because of issues with the box I had. I don't want my large to break and I didn't realize until after the post office closed. That's what I get for procrastinating!
In any case, it's been a blessing in disguise because I've been able to make something really, really, really awesome (in my opinion) that I'm swapping out for something that I was iffy on. Definitely had a fun time with this swap and hope my partner loves it!
As for the latest episode of Doctor Who, can someone who has seen it answer a question ~~~> Did a Weeping Angel replace the Statue of Liberty? Because otherwise it doesn't make sense since the statue is definitely not stone. And why is there only one really massive Angel?
Not that Doctor Who needs to make sense to be awesome.

Post by: Eiseldora on October 01, 2012 11:48:54 PM
Yes the angels replaced all of the statues in that time line. River made a comment about it. It was quite creepy that the Statue of Liberty was an Angel, though my husband wants to know how no one noticed that it moved.

Nothing to see, Move along :D

sent last night, can't wait for my partner to recieve

on the subject of the last episode, am i the only one that found it a bit disapointing? i mean the ending wasn't bad but as a whole i thought there could have been more to it. i also didn't realize that was the last episode til next year which has me pissed but then again i'm still pissed the season didn't even start until fall instead of its usual easter start date

ok now for spoilers
Eiseldora - tell your husband i was thinking the exact same thing the whole time, that seriously bothered me, cuz its not like it did it a little it was quite a ways off *spoilers* i mean its on a freaking island by itself how the hell did it get to manhattan, wha'ts it gonna sink to the bottom of the ocean and walk across? cuz i'm pretty sure they can't fly or teleport, makes no freaking sense

shynii- *spoilers* i dont get it either because they've never said anything about angels being able to turn other stone statues into angels, cuz that wouldnt make sense because they're a living creature that turns to stone not a stone that became a living creature, so when river said they've replaced all the statues in NY i assumed that meant they got rid of the regular statues and took thier place, but either way it doesn't make sense for the statue of liberty to be an angel because the statue of liberty isn't stone and doesn't look like stone and even if by some miracle noone noticed the statue running off to manhattan in the middle of the night, you'd think they'd notice the color of the statue of liberty changing. also, the height is off, when the detective goes to the elevator it says there's 22 stories, and the statue of liberty is about the hight of a 22 story building but that's including the base and pedistal and even if somehow it brought the pesdistal with it that would make the building even with the statue not at neck level

ok sorry for all the ranting, but that was really bothering me

I also thought the last episode was kind of lame. spoilers: I did like how they made it so that Amy/Rory were permanently out of the show but didn't die instantly. However, as other commenters on IMDB have noted, he said that he couldn't land the TARDIS in New York, but what would stop Amy and Rory from, say, travelling to Chicago? What would stop the Doctor from landing the TARDIS somewhere else in the same time period and communting to New York? Why can River go to New York to give Amy the book? Why doesn't that mess up the timeline? I also was disappointed with this season's episodes so far because they don't really connect at all. And I think the fact that they haven't really brought up the fact that the Doctor was supposed to die but didn't is kind of stupid.

Title: Re: Doctor Who Round 7 Swap Sendouts 10/1/12
Post by: Dra on October 02, 2012 05:23:23 PM
Spoilers! I definitely agree. I was really confused at a lot of different aspects of the episode. I'm definitely going to have to rewatch the ep! But I was confused that in all of New York not a single person was looking at the Statue Angel? Yea right!

Title: Re: Doctor Who Round 7 Swap Sendouts 10/1/12
Post by: shynii on October 02, 2012 07:47:46 PM
Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was confused with that last episode. But Doctor Who doesn't always make sense. Think of the ending to season 3!

I am sad that we have to wait until Christmas, though. It was hard enough waiting, what, a year and a half for season 7 to even start and now it feels like it's gone so fast >_< Even though I'm done crafting and have sent my swap package, I think I'll keep making Doctor Who stuff to pass the time. Watch more of the classic stuff.

Post by: bananaleg on October 03, 2012 12:26:54 AM
I will also have to rewatch the episode and pay more attention. Spoilers, kind of. I was satisfied with the ending. I've always had a feeling that's how they would leave. Maybe Rory wouldn't have left quite so suddenly, but that's okay. Still sad to see him go, though.

I finished today about a half hour after the post office closed, so i will be sending tomorrow. Gave me time to add in a fun, little extra.

I also thought the last episode was kind of lame. spoilers:

kinda spoilers- I've noticed a lack of connection to a bigger story pretty much since moffat took over, even when there was a bigger story they did it weird. and i'm also really confused about the timeline issues, i'd have thought that ever since they realized river was their daughter it would have caused a huge time paradox like when rose touched herself as a baby and those teradactyl things came in to try and fix the paradox. but it really pissed me off cuz in Blink they said you can't go back and visit someone when they were younger that's why that cop that got sent back couldn't look up the chick he had to wait till he was all old, but now the angel victims can have their young self come visit them and there's no time destroying paradox? and seriously if the doctor can cross into another dimention again to say goodbye to rose i'm sure he can find a way to meet up with amy and rory that's not in new york. the whole episode just felt kinda lazy to me, like they didn't think all these things through. and it also bugged me how river kept calling the doctor "husband" when they never actually got married it was like a fake marriage. and it didn't make sense how river's always begging the doctor to stick around and be with her and he offered to have her stay with him and she said no, i mean she said yes but then was like "oh but i'm never gonna be around" ugh, i really hope the second half of the season is better. oh and also very pissed about noone mentioning him dying, i've been waiting for some huge crazy reveal with what all that meant with him dying but not dying and then they just kinda leave it and act like it was nothing.

I'm not surprised this season has sucked.  I've only seen 3 episodes so far, but the show has been going downhill since Moffat took over.  It's basically a kids show now. Semi spoiler: Dinosaurs? On a space ship? OH COME ON!

@lilusa: Hush now, that ep was fantastic. Because Lestrade! Well, Rupert Graves. but y'know.

I guess I'm in the minority now, but I really love the seasons Moffat did. I LOVE the season-long plot arcs. And yeah, this season was a little slow so far, but let's recall that Davies has some very silly, unconnected episodes too.

Spoilers: Rory never touched himself, so the bad don't-touch-yourself creatures (heh) didn't show up/create a paradox. I'm with you guys about the statue of Liberty though. Clearly they just wanted a cool visual.

Re: River/marriage: Totally married. Time Lords have weird marriages, IDK. But totally married and I, for one, love it. The reason they can't be together all the time is because of their previous/future timeline interactions, ie Silence in the Library. They're not synced up quite right and IRRC the library thing is kind of fixed point.

I quite liked the episode despite its flaws. Not really sure how the angels replaced all the statues or w/e and the Statue of Liberty was silly and obviously they could have parked the TARDIS in like, Queens or something to fetch Rory. I think the reason they didn't just commute in to NYC is partially because the Doctor knew from the book that he wouldn't see Amy again. And I think it was also that Amy, being faced with the loss of her husband AGAIN sort of decided on a whim that she chose Rory, forever, and that was it and it didn't matter if she never saw the Doctor again. Rory was gone NOW and she needed to get to him. I don't know. I've given it a lot of thought.

Also, was it someone on here that pointed out Amy's grave said Amy Williams instead of Rory Pond? I thought that was lovely (if a bit against my feminist sentiments). Another way of showing Amy chose Rory over the Doctor, even when it might have been possible to still have both.

My thoughts, let me show you them. : )

Title: Re: Doctor Who Round 7 Swap Sendouts 10/1/12
Post by: ivoryh1632 on October 03, 2012 09:10:16 PM
ifallthraindrops - rory never changed his last name, the doctor's the only one that called him rory pond as kind of a statement that amy was the one in charge so if it said otherwise it wouldn't have made sense, i think they've refrenced amy changing her name to williams before in other episodes

Summer6061- best. graphic. ever.

lilusa- i completely agree, i feel like he's dumbing it down for ratings, its less whitty and the plot arcs that run through the season are blatently obvious instead of the kinds stuff you dont realize was there until the 2nd time through that davies did. it reminds me of when they remake a british show for american tv and they just dumb it down so more people will watch it. and it does feel more like a kids show, its lost a lot of the whit and a lot of the depth and darkness.

as for it having always been a kids show, that's not exactly true, its always been a family show with elements for kids and adults that's why the show's 2 spinoff's go in opposite directions, sarah jane takes the more lighthearted kid's side of the show and torchwood takes the more dark and adult side, the show's always had both of these but since moffat's taken over it seems to be more the sarah jane side and less the torchwood side. also, standards of what we consider to be suitable for kids in the US and what is considered suitable for kids in the UK is completely different. I mean i still remember the outrage at the later harry potter books being aimed for kids because they dealth with death and the stuff in doctor who is way scarrier and darker than harry potter. if dw was brought to the US without having the previous connotation of being a kids show i doubt anyone would consider it as such.

all that being said...........i recieved my package today!!!!!! posting pics in a minute

I did not even give that a second thought. Ever since Amy signed the divorce papers as Amelia Williams, it became kind of real. Would have loved to see Rory Pond on there, though.

I have for the most part really, really enjoyed the Moffat seasons. (this is coming from someone who cried when they announced the end of the Davies years and refused to even talk about the new Doctor for months) There are a few throw away episodes and I had major issues with the whole Amy likes the Doctor, oh but she has to get married etc story line in the first season. I loved little Amelia Pond and would have enjoyed seeing them travel together. It also always bothered me that she went from Amelia to Amy. In some ways the show tracked along with my current life and that was crazy.

Spoilers:

I feel they have always played the time paradox touch yourself thing, they used it when it worked for them.

Yes of course the Doctor and River are married, I feel a little cheated that she married a robot version of himself with him inside but totally married. I love how River and 11 play off of each other and I really would like more of her, I would also be interested to see if just because Amy and Rory's time with the Doctor is up, is River still having adventures with the three of them. The timelines don't match you know.

I'm not a hundred percent behind the fixed point in time idea, Time can always be rewritten (depending on who is doing the writing). Rose is the perfect example. I like a little more open ended story like Martha's where you could possibly see them again.

I feel like Amy's grave said Amy Williams because no one knew them as the Ponds and that was the saddest thing to me of all.

Dinosaurs on a spaceship=Awesome!

This always was a kids show, yes it could be a family show but it's intent was a kids show. One of the reason there was not a lot of real romantic stuff back in the day and the first Doctor travelled with his granddaughter.

I still don't 100% know how I feel about the episode/season/series up till now. I have cried a lot and there are a few times/people who have made me re watch episodes over and over. I am excited for the Christmas episode though.

Not trying to fan an arument or anything like that but a friend jsut sent me an article and I wanted to share it. For those of you that don't understand why some of us think Moffat's doctor is more immature or his silly unconnected episodes are worse than Davies' silly unconnected episodes, this guy pretty much explains it perfectly. But either way he brings up some interesting points and I thought it was worth a read if you have the time.

That's a really thought-provoking article. And it makes a lot of sense--especially the gender bit. I don't necessarily agree with the other points though. Part of it is that I love the plot springs and whatall but also I do see some genuine emotion here, and not just from Rory. There are emotion issues with Amy, but I mostly chalk that up to abandonment issues. I don't really watch classic Who, but I really love the Doctor's attitude about the Earth--he's not human but he's put a lot of effort it. I'm hoping there will be a payoff for this season too. Moffat's killin' me, but I think I trust him. I loved seasons five and six SO MUCH. I might be in the minority here, but I love Moffat's Who. I love that he's kind of dark and willing to overlook consequences. Spoiler: The bit in A Town Called Mercy where he stops trying to save everyone for a moment is an interesting character moment. Because that IS a moral dilemma (and I know Moffat didn't write that one but still).

That being said, the points in the article about Moffat writing for his kids and making Who more of a kids' show--I happily watch Avengers cartoons and children's movies all the time sooo can't really complain. I tend to see a lot more depth than perhaps other people do. I read a lot of fan fiction and have given it a lot of thought.

YMMV, obviously.

ifallthraindrops, I agree with you. I loved Season 5 and 6. There were so many OMG moments. So many fun moral questions, like do you let the vampire-fish species go extinct to save Earth? Or are Gangers real people? I especially love their friendship, as compared to the way Rose was a worshipper at the alter of the Doctor. And I think you're right about the fanfiction too, it helps give more perspective to things you watch.

I guess what it comes down to is different people like different things. What matters is if you're polite about it, or try to change everyone's mind and attack what they enjoy.

ifallthraindrops- i loved that part in that episode too i was like woah is this seriously happening, it kinda reminded me of how the doctor flipped in the other direction at the end of the waters of mars

but yeah i wasn't trying to be pushy or anything i just thought it was an interesting article.

also, isn't all who fanfic just stories about the doctor and captain jack having sex? j/k lol

@gala: Yes, friendship. There was a lot of back and forth about Amy, but FRIENDS. Which, btw, is why I completely adore Donna and not so much Martha.

@ivory: There is, um, a lot of things. I went through a brief period of really liking the Amy/Rory/Doctor/Sometimes TARDIS grouping. I mean, it's fan fiction, so there's a lot of sex, but there's also a lot of really interesting stories and plot arcs. You'd be amazed what dedicated fans can come up with.

oh i'm sure there's some great stuff, i just think its funny how a good chunk of any fanfic (no matter what the subject matter) is pretty much just gay porn, not that there's anything wrong with that, i just find it amusing

Hey guys, sorry I've been a bit quiet lately! I just wanted to thank everyone for an awesome swap, and I'll be getting out the last of the feedback for those that need it at some point today!

And we are completely done! Thanks everyone for making this swap go as smoothly as possible. Please let me know if I didn't give you feedback (everyone should have it now) or if I gave you wrong feedback (saying you sent late when you didn't or something like that). I tried to get everyone, but this was the biggest swap I've ever hosted!

Also, I realized I never posted pictures! They've been sitting on my camera forever.... I'll post them as soon as I can!
